Being back in the DMV area for the month of May, I had a coworker/friend who was in the area on work travel and was staying in Arlington. With my inkling for spanish eats, we heard about this spot for tapas-style cuisine. After getting the reservation on OpenTable, we hit this spot up on a Tuesday early evening, mid month.
Upon arriving, I was quite surprised that there were hardly any people in the location as there were only 3 other tables occupied and an empty bar around 530ish. While this was a red flag to me, I noticed my friend was already seated with a sangria in hand which is what I also ordered. It was delicious, so good that I forgot to take a photo of it; maybe it's cause I was just ready to drink and converse. After chatting a bit, we decided on the all-you-can-eat Tapas since financially, it made the most sense. Since we both brought our appetites, we went with just about everything you could think of. Some items we ordered we're also specials for the ACYE tapas. Also props to the server for being attentive and making sure our table always had dishes on it for out appetite. The inventory is as follows:
Albondigas (Meatballs) - 8/10
Potatas Bravas (Crispy Potatoes) - 6/10
Brussel Sprouts w/ lemon aioli - 7/10
Grilled Cheese w/ mahon, serrano ham, truffle honey - 8/10
Chicken Croquettes - 6/10
Roasted Cauliflower w/ harissa aioli - 5/10
Truffle Mac N Cheese - 8/10
Pork Belly w/ lima beans, lentils, chorizo, sofrito, chimichurri - 10/10
Spanish Tortilla (Potato/Egg/Onion ommelette) w/ arugula cream - 9/10
Spicy Burrata (Mozzarella Cream Cheese) w/ tomato, lentils, focaccia - 8/10
Grilled Carrots w/ herbs - 4/10
Grilled Octopus w/ squash puree, house salad, lemon aioli - 9/10
As you can tell from the number of items, we pretty much tried nearly the entire small plates menu. Best item hands down was the Pork Belly; so tender and melt in your mouth texture. Plus the presentation with the lima beans/lentils/chorizo/sofrito and that chimichurri drizzle will make you go loco staring at it since it's begging you to bite it. Other excellent items that stood out were the Spanish Tortilla and Grilled Octopus. The tortilla is basically a spanish omelette with layers of potatoes, egg, and onions with the arugula cream adding a nice sense of yumminess. The grilled octopus, while a bit tough, had good char and seasoning; mixed it with the aioli and squash puree for a layered taste profile. Both of the dishes took me back to mid 2022 when I was in Spain for a week and they were identical to the food I ate there. Also recommend the grilled cheese, albondigas (meatballs), truffle mac n cheese, and spicy burrata (special item). Some of the other typical tapas dishes (potatas bravas, brussel sprouts, chicken croquettes, cauliflower, grilled carrots) were either ok or didn't really care for.
Definitely go for the Sangria and Pork Belly. And the other items I rated 9/10 or 8/10. Not sure why it was nearly empty when we arrived but maybe it's the Tuesday vibes? Oh well.
