Downtown Chicago’s Best Spots to Drink

"The former Plymouth rooftop has been rebranded from the same family behind Hollywood Grill and Griddle21. Ownership feels Mexican cuisine and beverages can bring some energy back into the space with drinks like sangria, margaritas, and palomas. Despite the new decor, the space remains a classic." - Naomi Waxman, Ashok Selvam

Plymouth Restaurant & Bar - Review - Chicago - The Infatuation

"A rooftop open year-round is a good way to get people in the door, and that's why Plymouth is a solid place to hang out and drink. There's often an influx of law students from John Marshall and DePaul on a nice day, so be prepared to have to stake out some space. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

I checked off my first visit this week during Happy Hour. Food: I had The Lemon Pepper Wings and they were good! I’m not a fan of huge big wings and these were perfect! No complaints at all. Drinks: I had a Peach Margarita that was delicious and had a kick (strength wise LOL) to it! Service: Good! No complaints at all! I can remember the server’s name but she was great! Atmosphere/Ambiance: It gave me that after work/Summertime vibes for a rooftop. Final Thoughts/Recommendations: I’d definitely return and would recommend.

Google
Honest review: It’s not the worst rooftop bar. We came on a Wednesday night and the hostess and waitress were both pleasant. The entire experience was just underwhelming, the music was too loud and not really hitting the vibe check. Our wings were ok, a bit overcooked. The chip and guacamole, again underwhelming. The best part i would say are the drinks, if you don’t like overly strong drinks this place does it well.

Google
It was a hot day and panchos rooftop & cantina came to the rescue. Came with my daughter on our 1st visit to Chicago and it was a delight. Make your way to the rooftop, order a margarita, order some chips and guacamole and sit back and relax. Lovely spot and I will recommend to all weather your out on solo outing or family style. Great location close to the train and lots of activities nearby. The service was great and even got some margs on the house. Can’t wait to be back!

Google
Good deal for happy hour! We had $8 margaritas with flavor options and chips and salad. Service was attentive and food came quickly. We sat in the downstairs bar because of weather but would love to return to sit up top. Definitely a good after-work happy hour spot if you work in the Loop!

Google
This was our first time here and it was such a chill good vibe with great drinks!! Marissa was super friendly and informative, she made this experience 10x better. Will fs come again!!!

Google
Marissa was absolutely fantastic! From the moment we sat down, she made us feel welcomed and taken care of. She was incredibly attentive without being overbearing, always checking in at the perfect times. She knew the menu inside and out, and her recommendations were spot-on -especially the dessert, which we wouldn’t have tried without her suggestion! On top of her professionalism, Marissa was kind, personable, and created a genuinely enjoyable dining experience. You can tell she really cares about her guests. We’ll definitely be coming back, and we hope to be seated in her section again!

Google
A few friends we in town and wanted a “chill rooftop vibe” so I went on the hunt and stumbled upon Panchos via google. It’s super cute and the service was great, but it was super loud! Def not a place to go if you want to talk and catch up with friends. It was pretty dead on a Monday night so we didn’t have to wait for a table or anything. Their steak tacos were yummy!

Google
First time here and I loved it! Marissa was our server and she was the best. Marissa was very attentive and patient. She came often to make sure we were good. Definitely coming back. Food was delicious as well! 😀🤤

Yelp
The food was delicious and came out quick. The server was friendly and attentive and the restaurant is really nice on the rooftop

Yelp
I had heard of it this prior but hadn't gotten a chance to stop by - it's in the heart of the loop tucked away on a side street. Upon entering we were greeted and sat down and were so lucky to catch their Happy Hour! Super good pricing on their drinks so I highly recommend if you're in area around HH times (check online). Their nachos were pretty tasty! Didn't skimp on anything which is always appreciated and the toppings were good. I'd come again!

Yelp
Seemed like it would be a fun place, but the service wasn't all that great. We had to ask for napkins, silverware, and water. Very little customer service offered. Not a place I would return for that reason alone. Food was just ok and hard to describe, but mainly the tortilla chips tasted weird like the oil they fried them in was old.

Yelp
Same spot as Plymouth just a rebrand! Love the rooftop vibe. The service was also great and super quick with bringing food out! This michelada is by far the best I have had in Chicago. Sooo good and great portions. I would skip the ceviche, a little too fishy. The star of the show is their wings. These are actually sooooo good. Perfectly cooked. The mango habernero sauce is perfect and not too hot. I need a bottle to take home!! **they do include gratuity and they are very sneaky about it.

Yelp
One of the best hidden spots in the area! Priscilla and Julie were very attentive and went above and beyond to recommend drinks and ensure a great time. Vibes are very Latino, playing all the best hits and keeping to the Panchos theme. Will be returning!

Yelp
We went for happy hour. The drinks were too sweet and had very little alcohol. The guacamole is bland and unseasoned. The elote bites were okay, didn't expect them to be fried and breaded. The quesadilla was good. It was confusing to get in the building, now signs for how to get to the rooftop and the door to the bottom of the restaurant was locked. I wish there was posted signage. The restaurant was pretty crowded and the tables were very close together. The services was okay, but it was hard to get the waitresses attention to order. The music was odd - did not create a fun vibe.

Yelp
I went to Pancho's for the first time for a friends birthday celebration. Based off the prior reviews I was unsure about how the experience would be. It wasn't very good. For starters, when I walked in the elevator to the restaurant was broken. You had to walk 4-5 long flights of stairs to get to the top. I could only imagine how disappointed I would have been if someone in my party had a disability and couldn't get up the stairs?! Once you get to the top you legit enter in the side of the kitchen with food out- doesn't seem the cleanest. I was a bit early and they didn't mind seating me while I waited for the rest of my party. The decor is bright and fun, however some of the rooftop views are just okay. We were next to this big empty parking lot that had trash in it. It's an eye sore. They also don't give you free chips and salsa- they cost money. Really?! I ended up ordering a frozen strawberry margarita, which tasted okay. It was super sweet and a little watery- not strong at all. The menu lacks a lot of descriptions. I decided to order panchos nachos since we didn't get chips- it had jalapenos listed but nothing else spicy. When it arrived it tasted way hotter than expected (spicy wise because the dish arrived luke warm). It had this green salsa on it in addition to the chicken rub which I didn't like. They hardly put any toppings on it and the chips were stale. It was mainly chicken stacked on top. So disappointed! My party also had other issues with the food. Our waitress was very nice and tried to be helpful, but that was kind of the only positive about the experience. The music was also super loud, which didn't bother me at all, but its a younger vibe. I wouldn't come back here or recommend this to anyone. Overall experience 2/5.

Yelp
So much food & so yummy! I really should've taken more photos but we enjoyed the chips & salsa with the elote bites as an appetizer which were both delicious! The carne asada fries were so filling and seasoned well. The vibe was fun, with music and a rooftop view. I had a raspberry mojito too which was yum! Definitely a fun spot to try with good food!

Yelp
The re-brand this place needed! What a fun atmosphere and restaurant. It's perfect for a happy hour with coworkers or friends, or affordable drinks and food with whoever you're with. Their pulled chicken nachos and carne asada fries were to die for. I loved all their drinks - I recommend the Mexican mule, frozen margs, or margs on the rocks. I especially liked their mango and strawberry margaritas. The bathrooms are downstairs so you have to go down 1-2 flights of stairs to access their 2-stall bathroom. Our servers were soooo awesome and personable. I'd totally come here again if I'm looking for a happy hour in the loop!

Yelp
I went to Pancho's with a group of friends looking for a nice margarita on a Saturday afternoon - we definitely found that at Pancho's! We were quickly sat, which was nice given we were kind of a large group, but it seemed to take a while for the drink orders to be taken. Nonetheless we were patient and were eventually rewarded with our margaritas! The prices were quite fair for the size of the drink (~$13), they had a great selection of margarita flavors (blended and on the rocks), and although we didn't get food it seemed to look good at nearby tables. I got the frozen mango marg, and it was sweet but definitely hit the spot for a mango frozen marg. A classic flavor. The view from the cantina is also really nice - a great view of the beautiful Chicago Library. We were even there on a rainy day and it was still a great time - thanks Pancho's, we'll be back!

Yelp
Went for happy hour yesterday and had the best time! We loved the rooftop and the drink and food deals were fantastic. Service was good, although the place was super busy. Music was loud but perfect for the vibe of the place. The salsa was amazing and served warm, which I loved. The guac could've used a bit more lime, but overall was great. Definitely a cute spot to check out during the week for happy hour, and I'm pretty sure I'll be here again very soon!

Yelp
I never came here previously but this little rooftop bar is fun. On a weeknight it was packed with people (multiple groups were celebrating birthdays). The music was loud, service was efficient and the food was decent. A fun post-work spot for a good time!
google avatar

Jill A.

Yelp
Back for my second visit and the place was pretty packed for a Wednesday evening. The food was still good but the margaritas were not. My second margarita was clear and tasted like ice water. Also, the music was WAY too loud. Also still the ugly view of the roof of the parking garage. And I HATE those stupid water misters that blow back on you in the breeze while you're eating. Not sure I'll bother to come back.
google avatar

Kris M.

Yelp
Food was ok, but overpriced. It was bar food. Drinks were ok. Crowded. Loud. Younger, after work crowd pounding drinks. Took us awhile to get the bartender's attention to get the check. Won't be returning.
google avatar

Senitra G.

Yelp
I had the carne asada fries, nice portion and pretty tasty. The service was okay we had to repeatedly ask for napkins and a beverage because our waitress kept forgetting. The ambiance is great for happy hour, meeting up with friends (rooftop) it can be a loud. I will return for appetizers and drinks. The elevator is extremely slow and hot (lol). The neighborhood can be a little sketchy in the evening maybe having a security guard downstairs in the evening would be helpful.
google avatar

Tiara N.

Yelp
Ordered a burrito and chicken tacos, the food was delicious!! Doing happy hours. All margaritas are eight dollars. Will be back soon!!!
google avatar

Silvana M.

Yelp
5 stars! I loved this place so much! The music and the ambience was a vibe. The food and drinks was excellent!
google avatar

Nikki W.

Yelp
Food was food, ambiance was great and service was great! Would make this a go-to spot if I lived here.
google avatar

Bill K.

Yelp
The margaritas are made with soda, and they taste it- sent mine back for a remake. The salsa looks and tastes like tomato soup. Very, very poor food. What a shame as the atmosphere is great. Food and drink leave a lot to be desired. For a Mexican restaurant- they should have this down. 1 star

Yelp
Decent food (I was super hungry after work, though). Unfortunately, the staff charged our table an 18% surcharge (party of 5) with no notice that I could find on the menu + no verbal notice. So, my friends and I realized we may have given additional tip because they didn't hand us physical receipts. The last two of our group requested a physical receipt thankfully, and that's how we found out about a credit card surcharge and party surcharge. Took about 20 minutes of an inconvenience to get our refund, not worth the food and the sub-par service (would have rated much higher if I was rich and didn't mind giving a higher tip than deserved... maybe if the view was actually nice too.. no good ambiance here)

Desiree M.

Yelp
The service was amazing! We were seated right away and our server greeted us with smiles. Definitely will be back. Not to mention the chips and guacamole were great!!

Alisha R.

Yelp
The two is because I atleast liked the atmosphere. This place was so bad and I'm actually embarrassed I came here for my birthday. The food was mediocre, the service was HORRIBLE especially when they automatically add like a 18% gratuity. I had to ask several people to have my waitress Kassandra come back to the table. The dirty dishes were left on the table. Our appetizers were cleared off finally after sitting in our face for so long but they never took our entrees or drinks that we already had. I then had to hunt her down for the bill. For $269, will not be returning, but again the atmosphere was cute. Atmosphere: 2/5

Yelp
Place is just ok. Rooftop bar is kind of cool. . Music way too loud, service was slow, and the nachos are dogsh!t. I wouldn't go back.

Erick G.

Yelp
Tik tok definitely made it look better than what it really was. The food was very bland. Guac had no seasoning I'd say chipotle does a better job. Not only that but they charged extra for a "mega plate" of asada fries that is actually the same size plate as the regular, taste 1/5 stars. My buddy went before I did I should've listened definitely not a good spot. Ambience 2/5 stars.

Orlando G.

Yelp
Our server was amazing today, she was very attentive to us and even gave us awesome latin club recommendations!

Angela O.

Yelp
The drinks for happy hour was weak. The appetizer was ok . The server was phenomenal. However there was a huge issue. We were seated still I was sipping on my drink and waiting for our checks when some of the staff began to move tables around to accommodate a larger party . Pretty much started moving tables around the bus boy even had the AUDACITY to lift chairs over our head when it can you guys move over a little bit would have eliminated the feeling of disrespect and unwelcome spirit. The intrusion on one's personal space was over the top and the only person that acknowledged it was our server even though it wasn't her fault. Because of that if I could give them a zero I would definitely not recommend. Customer service is very important.

Yelp
Thank you so much for the hospitality. My guests and I had a wonderful time. The service was great and the food was delicious. Had such a great time celebrating my birthday all with good music and atmosphere. Anyone looking to celebrate an occasion definitely recommend Panchos. Manager went above and beyond to accommodate us.

Torry P.

Yelp
Service wasn't good , food was mediocre! Wouldn't go back , but if you do go the elote bites are you best bet .

Iris D.

Yelp
Came here from CA and it was such a vibe!! The music was lit, the Pinapple Mezcal Margarita was bomb & our waitress Leslie was the best!

Jeremiah S.

Yelp
This place is off the chain. Make sure you are here for the happy hour 4-7 pm Margaritas are legit, try the steak nachos! You won't be disappointed,

Ricki J.

Yelp
Food was great, service was good, vibes was 11/10. The music box had all the bangers playing, rooftop had a nice view and is very well decorated.

Yelp
Cassie was an excellent server very nice and very respectful very good food very good drinks and amazing rooftop to come with friends

Yelp
Stopped by on a beautiful Saturday afternoon for the first time. The service was excellent and friendly. Great atmosphere - fun ambiance. Ordered the red sangria which was very good and the pina margarita which was a basic pina margarita. We shared the carnitas nachos. The pork was tender and delicious. The food was good without a fancy presentation. We will go back since it was a fun place to chill, have a drink and a bite to eat.

Yelp
Went here for my juicy friend's going away celebration. This building has an identity crisis because it has about 6 different establishments in it. If you need to use a public bathroom, grab some great steak fajitas, and win a lawsuit then 327 S Plymouth Ct is your spot. Once you make it up the elevator and find your floor you're greeted with a small led lit patio with a view that reminds you of your first rebound after a break up. It's nothing to brag about. You better like your seat once you're seated because you're gonna be there for a while and not by choice. If you're thinking of drinks order em early, I recommend the margs. Only order a beer tower on a brisk January evening because your chilled glasses will be room temperature at best by the time the tower gets there. As for whichever caramel skinned Luis Miguel singing fellow was in the kitchen, I want to say thank you. You cooked that food like Jordan cooked the Utah Jazz, with grace and purpose. Overall I think I have a higher chance of getting legal help from the 2nd floor of the building than I do ever stepping foot again on the top floor.

Yelp
Food was amazing. The drinks were creative. And our server (Cassie) was great. She made sure everything was perfect. Definitely coming back for her.

Jeanette R.

Yelp
Love this place! Very cutesy, great drinks. Service is good. And the ambiance is gorgeous.

Stephanie V.

Yelp
This place has great food and the atmosphere is top tier I would totally recommend this place!!

Tyrell J.

Yelp
I had the Gringo burger and it was amazing. I hesitated because I'm dieting but it was worth the sacrifice. Also, the servers are extremely pleasant and kind.

Yelp
Such a beautiful place! Service was amazing! Our bartender Cynthia made great drinks! The food was great, I had the shrimp tacos and they were delicious! Definitely recommend you to check this place out if you're in Chicago!

john s.

Yelp
Went there for happy hour. Drinks and appetizers were good. Service was good. Restrooms clean. Breezy space with natural light.

Jazmin D.

Yelp
Super fun place to have drinks and chill. Mojitos are super good would definitely come back again!

Terri W.

Yelp
Tried Panchos. Food was good! Shout out to Cassie service was good! Thank you for the drink recommendation.

Pedro S.

Yelp
The food is actually good here not a lot to choose from. Outside the location it's looks so bad you had a bunch of people and some asking for money. Another is you can't park infront you have to park in a some garage they recommend saying it's $14 flat rate I ended up paying $55. Also while eating a server came up to me with asking if I wanted a beer that it was on the house so I said sure, looking at the bill they charge me for the beer. Overall I didn't like the experience

Edrianna M.

Yelp
service excellent food is delicious and drinks even better!!! good vibes and a view of the city

Madelyn R.

Yelp
A very good experience there. Good food, great people on staff. I ordered a steak nachos, wings along with a cantarito . Tasted very good. Definitely recommend for any occation.

Casandra M.

Yelp
Walked in on a Thursday night with my girlfriends, was greeted by nice staff, Cynthia was our waiters name she made us feel very welcomed and was happy to answer any questions we had. Great drinks by the way.

Lulu S.

Yelp
My first time and surely not my last. From the food to the service it was an amazing experience. Our bartender Cynthia was attentive and made by far the best drinks I've had in a long time. Food had an authenic taste, 10/10. The rooftop view was definitely a plus to the overall experience.

Yaddira C.

Yelp
I do not typically write reviews but this was the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. Visiting Chicago for the first time my friends and I were excited to try some Mexican food and drinks downtown. We arrive to the restaurant around 10:50pm and were seated immediately. We were waiting for a waitress to come by for at least 20 mins when another table gets seated next to us and is immediately attended with drinks and food. As I see waitresses and the hostess just walking by us several times I finally ask who is our waitress. The waitress proceeds to say she'll find out but doesn't come back until another 15 mins later finally saying she will just take our order, at this point it's already around 11:30pm. Mind you while she is taking our order for food and drinks she was giving an attitude the whole time as if it was our fault. After taking our order she comes back and tells us that the kitchen is closed and they can no longer make the food we ordered. I do not recommend going here after this horrible experience.
