"Mexican-influenced eatery Pancito & Lefty opened in February 2017, after much anticipation, but the owner announced today that the cantina is no more. The original menu from chef/owner Robert Berry offered dishes like chicken tamales, tacos al pastor, queso fundido, quesadillas with squash, mushrooms, and huitalacoche, and many traditional Mexican dishes. In November 2017, chefs Greg Marks, Reid Henninger, and Corey Phillips were brought in to oversee the kitchen day to day. The menu changed as new chefs circulated through the restaurant." - Erin Perkins

"For those who haven’t already snapped up a copy Holy Sprits! from Charleston’s own Cocktail Bandits, the duo will host a book party at cantina Pancito & Lefty. Authors Taneka Reaves and Johnny Caldwell will sign books and hop behind the bar to sling drinks. Stop by on Friday, July 6, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. for some fun with tequila (and other spirits)." - Erin Perkins

I love a good mezcal bar and this place has it all - knowledgable mixologists who are passionate about cocktails, beautifully made drinks that are simple and elegant, and delicious tacos too (I tried the beef tongue and fish tacos and both were excellent). I can't wait to go back.

Can't say enough about Pancito & Lefty. The owners and chef obviously did their research and homework in all the different culinary regions in Mexico. From mole to pozole, everything P&L puts out is authentic and delicious--better than a Oaxacan grandmother's food. I recommend the pozole, al pastor, squash blossom quesadilla, and ALL the mescal.

Delicious, original Mexican flavors all around. Cocktails are on point. My wife and I reveled in the guacamole, street corn and tacos. I had pork; she had fish. Both were excellent. And lastly, the service was very good as well! We are definitely coming back to Pancito and Left!

We had a great dinner here. Love the ambiance and the service was great. My fiance doesn't do well with spicy foods and Casey did a great job of making sure he got a dish that was more on the mild side. Drinks were delicious too!

We were so excited to try this place; we love upscale taco places, and elevated Mexican food. Unfortunately there wasn't a single component of our dining experience they got right. I hope some of it was opening week jitters. Charleston needs more places like this, but I fear, unless they make some major changes, we won't be back. To start with, they had a bouncer at the patio entrance. I would have minded this but they had bad communication between the bouncer and the waiters. When we were told we had a table, there was no guidance around the long path to the door, and the waiter wasn't ready for us. As a matter of fact, he was more interested in greeting his friends who entered its behind us. The decor was great, but the music was WAY too loud. The margaritas were terrible. It was a traditional spirit forward version, which would have been great, but the tequila and triple sec used were lacking in flavor, and I don't believe they used any simple syrup in their mix. It was harsh and unpleasant to drink. The food was overpriced for what you got, and was trying way to hard to be "different." The menu is often misleading, for example the chips and salsa was really chips with a drizzle of hot sauce and cheese over the top. You can get the similar cuisine for less and much better prepared down the street at Mineros. To top it off we had terrible service start to finish. I really hope they make some changes, as I wouldn't mind giving them another chance; however, the pretentious vibe leads me to believe they think they've done something right.

Bartenders are so friendly. They take the time to learn and remember your name. The food is delicious, and their Sunday brunch is an excellent change of pace from the typical southern dishes. This place is quickly becoming one of my favorite places to hang out.

Definitely on our list of favorites! Such creative and super-flavorful dishes - this past visit we had grilled corn on the cob that was covered in a wonderful sauce and rolled in crushed popcorn - not only visually exciting but scrumptious too. And the heirloom tomato salad was the perfectly refreshing starter. Every visit at this place had us quite animated - such innovative dishes and a staff that makes you feel like you've been lifelong friends.

Service was good, and that's about it. The food was sub-par and overpriced. I purchased the El Vampiro and tasted only the corn tortilla - for $14, I would expect something more substantial. Only one Mexican beer on the menu. Parking was an absolute nightmare, but I suppose I can chalk that one up to Charleston. Too much reliance on the hip aesthetic won't keep this place open.
