I come here frequently and u actually enjoy the new remodel. The space is fresh and clean and the customers that used to hang around and use the lobby for free have disappeared. The service here is great, especially the morning crew on weekdays. There is a fruit fly infestation in the soda machine that really grosses me out. I really wish they would have pest control come out and treat the area ASAP. Otherwise I like this location!

Frustrated in total with the very poor delivery! I have ordered food with this store to get delivered today between 1145 AM to 12 PM for a business meeting!! Food was extremely delayed and it came by 12 45 PM. There was no intimation done through phone or by email or by even text message on the delay. More worst part is I need to call them more than 10 times out of which only 4 times the call was picked and each time it was lengthy wait and their response will be driver on the way, 5 mins away and on doorstep etc.!! Worst delivery to the core.. My clients are disappointed, the plan was to have the meeting with the lunch, but the lunch was delivered after the meeting and many does not have patience to wait and most of the lunch ordered were wasted!! Don't plan for this store for ordering food for your business meet!! They actually should have refund the order amount as it was delayed by more than an hour of what they committed, even though I am not claiming that!

I love Panera. Just know that. But some locations are better than others. This is the south loop location near a lot of shopping stores. The front staff was nice and friendly. Only problem is they didn’t take my details like put the sauce on the side or add this or that. My salad had no dressing on the side but it was mixed in which I never like bc it’s too much salt and flavor. Then I asked for extra lettuce and onion and they said it was added. But it wasn’t. When I got my order I didn’t bother to return it for salad w no dressing bc I won’t waste food but I asked for the extra onion and lettuce. Make sure to ask for the side dish if you do Pick 2. It says on the receipt if it’s not accurate tell them and you will get a treat. So I got a treat. And they were nice about it. No questions asked and totally believed me. Bottom line… check your order before you eat. So the bathroom was not really clean and the floors of the dining area was full of dirt and crumbs. How is it that they expect Panera staff to broom the crumbs? You can get a small lightweight vacuum for $20 and not make a staff person work so hard for the crumbs and not flick them all over the air as a result. Please order the staff a working small vacuum so they can keep it clean? I wouldn’t want to work there cleaning w a broom. Too much work. No wonder the cleaning needs a lot of work. Otherwise location is nice to do other stuff nearby. Parking is meters on the street.

As of May 2025, this location is To-Go only. They removed all the chairs and tables. There’s nowhere to sit down to eat your food; you’re meant to grab and go. No longer a place to meet up or hang out.

Google
BEWARE No more dining-in totally a to-go atmosphere. Order at kiosk, has 1cashier station. NO seating but a solo bench. Open kitchen, no pastry display coffee is prepared by automated coffee machine with coffee beans which adds crema. I punched dark roast & coffee was coming out as if cream was already added. Not liking the atmosphere at all. Sometimes change is good sometimes it's not.

Google
Not accurate orders. Order strawberry caprese salad just plain green mix and 2 slice of mozzarella cheese. No strawberries or chicken so upset such a rip off not recommend service….

Google
Grabbed takeout from Panera Bread on Canal Street the other day. Ordered the Bacon Turkey Bravo sandwich and a cup of Creamy Tomato Soup—classic combo. The sandwich was stacked with turkey and that signature sauce, all on their fresh bread. The soup was rich and hit the spot, especially with the unpredictable Chicago weather. Spent around $15, which is fair for the quality and portion size. Service was quick, and the staff was friendly. Definitely a solid spot when you're craving something hearty but don't wanna wait around.

I’ve been coming to this Panera location on and off for ten years. In the early years the dining area was clean, and everything pleasant. I usually don’t stay to sit down and eat but this time I did with a client. Big mistake. The dining area was dirty. Crumbs on the floor, mould spores in the ceiling vents (isn’t that a health code violation?), toilets had no tissue paper, the table we selected to seat at was dirty and not wiped down. They had also removed some tables that used to be by the rear window by the ladies restroom, and there were also tables removed by the large dining table. The food was so so. I ordered this chicken sandwich that looked nothing like the picture. To go is the best option but even then your Order isn’t always correct so check before you leave. This tired and run down looking location needs a revamp.

Yelp
The only thing good about this was the service time. I noticed they have done some upgrades bro both sandwiches since the last time I ate them . However, it's nothing with the price point to go back for. Maybe bin another 6 years!! Tuna sandwich 1/5 the sugar and the mustard bases just made this sandwich bad. Mediterranean sandwich 2/5 nothing stuck out other than fresh ingredients. Sandwich was very blah

Yelp
The people working here are extremely nice and helpful. Asked alot of menu questions and about a handicapped bathroom for my mom. The food was decent. Chicken Frontega sandwich was good. The squash soup was tastey but luke warm...not even close to feeling like fresh soup. Biggest issue is cleanliness. The tables all had food on them and were sticky and we had to make due. Trash all over the floors, the bathroom was dirty and the dishes area was so piled up with dirty dishes it looked like it was all about to tumble. Makes me wonder how clean the actual kitchen is... Overall if your interested building it's literally the only choice besides whole foods. So go for it I guess lol.

Yelp
Would definitely be a better experience if (a) store was not deliberately designed to exclude wheelchairs (b) you could get the food you ordered, esp when reactions to food makes what you get inedible. The cup of lemonade which is the only edible thing I got for my $15 (incl tip) was good. Not THAT good.

Yelp
Got a gift certificate from my mother in law and you know what? The girlfriend and I had a great time. The food was actually on the pricier side, but the service was fine, the place was chill, the music wasn't loud. I could imagine working from here, I think a few other people were. We were there on a Thursday evening. The 2 things I wanted to order were out of stock, so we got a stacked pesto sandwich was pretty good and a good size. Broccoli cheese soup which was typical but fit the bill, and my chicken something bowl was pretty good. It needed more sauce but it was fine and probably relatively healthy...?

Yelp
Not to rant but I am not surprised that this location received a 2 .5 rating. I had not been in store since they started using the kiosk, so I was unfamiliar with the set up. To get an iced coffee you just order a hot one and ice it yourself; I learned later. But when I went to the counter to order, I requested the spinach and bacon soufflé, the cashier said, "You want the spinach souffle?" I said, "Yes." Her response, "We don't have that anymore." "You mean it's discontinued or you're just out of it?" We proceed to go back and forth for a minute over semantics. Another patron comes in behind me at says to me, "They are just rude in here." Instead of seeking clarity, the cashier she was away, clearly frustrated. For the record, I was not confrontational, I was light...having a good morning. There was another young lady slicing bread nearby. After a minute of standing at the counter waiting, I ask her, "Is someone going to help me? Who can take my order." She responds something to the effect of, "I am working on this and the can't help you." The manager comes over and she was just as indignant as the first cashier. I place my order and explain to her that the kiosk doesn't allow you to ice your specific coffee and she said, you do it yourself, pointing at the coffee bar behind me. Ok, got it! I understand everyone's job is not easy but they have a chip on their shoulders. It was not every crowded or busy at that time. A man behind me comes in and it is obvious he is a regular and he is greeted kindly and his coffee order is taken quickly. The other patron told me that she has experienced this the last three times she was in here and that she won't be coming back after today. I like the breakfast sandwiches so I will go back periodically but that is only if I can order ahead of time in the app. Human beings are not customer conscious at this location.

Yelp
This chain has gone way downhill. I'm surprised they're still in business. The prices are very high, the staff is rude and the food isn't that good anymore. There are a number of places you can go and get the same thing and enjoy it much more.

Yelp
I love my membership with Panera Bread. The coffee club is convenient and guarantees no matter how far I travel, I can always find a delicious cup of coffee.

Yelp
This has to be by far the worst Panera Bread I have ever visited. the service was horrible. I waited 40+ minutes for my order to be ready. There was no apologies for it or anything. I highly recommend that no one visits this establishment as the service is horrible.

Deyanira B.

Yelp
Horrible service, the employees are angry and give you a horrible attitude, it is very dirty, garbage on the tables and on the floor, the bathrooms are super dirty

Yelp
I really love Panera's broccoli and cheddar soup however this time I got it with a peace of plastic bag.

Yelp
I walked in here and the STENCH that hit my nostrils. This place smells like a dirty nursing home. JUST TRIFLIN. AND FILTHY. There's no way it's legal for them to still be in business and make FOOD. I had to bring my own wipes to clean the crusty table. BREAD CRUMBS IN EVERY CREVICE. I just came to meet with a friend and there was NO WAY I'd order anything in here. I'm surprised I didn't see roaches running around. DONT COME HERE UNLESS YOU ARE EXTREMELY DESPERATE.

Yelp
So you're gonna want to go to this Panera because of the smells obviously. But AVIOD. I've been to this Panera a handful of times and it's never been a great experience, but this time was by far the worst. Like I would rather get a root canal. Literally go to the deli in Whole Foods. It's right there and you won't have to wait 30 minutes for some soup salad, and a burnt bagel Ain't nobody at this place actually work. They just all look busy and only hand your order when you ask but you have to ask the right person. I watched them literally not be able to locate somebody's order and then two minutes after the lady left a staff member said I told her her order was down there. Confused why if you knew where somebody's order was and she's complaining and your manager is about to cancel out the order why you wouldn't walk, grab it and hand it to her. They forgot the dressing for the salad and the cream cheese for the bagel, but I don't think there's enough cream cheese on the Earth to counteract this bagel. Employees were wearing whatever they wanted and had AirPods in, including the manager.

Yelp
I arrived here and one kiosk was out of service. So I looked at the baked goods and as always they have fantastic cookies-heart-shaped for Valentines Day-and generous sized oatmeal, chocolate chip and even "The Kitchen Sink Cookie." What I came for is both Fried Chicken Sandwiches-but they are "sold out" no one had an explanation. There are many other options from baked goods like bread and cookies and pastries as well as other sandwiches. It appears they tried to add their own chicken sandwiches with are "sold out." It was a bummer!

Jasma F.

Yelp
Came into the location to see that the place was under construction and looked like it shouldn't have been open. They had no crafted drinks available (I'm assuming due to construction) which made me wonder if they cant make most of their drinks then how is the food being prepped? Well, I ordered a cream of chicken wild rice soup bread bowl and got an upset stomach and deep regrets.

Yelp
Thanks to you Cynthia for excellence in customer service EVERYDAY!!!! Even in a Saturday, she wears a smile and helps. Needed honey, and she climbed a shelf in the back.

Yelp
Don't ever order delivery from them and always check your food before leaving. They always and I mean always miss up your order. Something will be left out, the wrong thing will be put in and don't believe them when they say they'll give you something for screwing up your order. Instead contact corporate and get a refund.
google avatar

Yelp
I've ordered from this location a hand full of times and a majority of my orders have been fine. But this place or the company overall has been declining in quality. I tried the new green goddess toasted baguette sandwich. They ran out of some ingredients last time I ordered it (before dinner time) so I decided to give it another try yesterday when just one ingredient was missing, tomatoes...I get home and I'm missing the sauces on the side and missing cheese. I wanted to call up my inner Tom and Jerry but I was home already and I get people are stressed or overworked. But what really disgusted me was the extra ingredient I got. I'm not even sure what the hell it is. The sandwich has arugula and basil so I'm not sure if these are part of them. One has a trident shape so I'm not sure it's plant stalks. It had a tang to it but I'm not sure if that was from the peppers. I know some locations have closed but venture out here at your own risk unless you like mystery dinners. Your face after chewing becomes the theater.

Keyonda P.

Yelp
My favorite location to go to. Parking isn't the best because of all the surrounding stores, but the staff is quick, friendly, and the food is always fresh. I also always get my fave kitchen sink cookie without worrying it's sold out. The chicken and rice soup is spot on every single time! Great for a quick lunch or meet up with friends to plan events or work on a school project.

Yelp
The menu offers a wide variety of options, and everything we tried was delicious. If you're a foodie like me, you'll love this place! The menu has a fantastic selection of dishes, and we loved everything we tried. We only had good comments about the food. The staff was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and offered excellent recommendations. Truly great service!

Yelp
I don't think I've personally ever left a bad review before, so this means a lot. I've had 2 awful experiences with this location and corporate. I ordered a $300+ group order for delivery (for a work lunch) that never showed up. After calling the location over 10x and waiting in the delivery area of my office for 2 hours, I gave up and resorted to calling the corporate help line. Two weeks later and the $300 charge is still on my card with no refund or email confirmation that a refund is coming. I was promised by the corporate employee that I would receive that email, but I'm just left waiting with the charge. I still don't know where that food ended up. How can that much food go missing with no contact from the restaurant?? It left my coworkers scrambling to find food between meetings. I thought I'd give them another shot tonight, but was shorted 2 bread bowls, 2 sides, and was given a wrong entree item. Once again, I didn't receive the food I paid for and was counting on for a meal. Only one item was technically what I ordered, but it was also lacking avocado because the store was "sold out." Extremely disappointing.
google avatar

Paul L.

Yelp
This used to be a really nice spot. Now, it's a dump. Dirty, messy, and unkept. Staff is short and unfriendly. What a shame.
google avatar

Tess W.

Yelp
Food was okay. We ordered the Green Goddess salad, the Strawberry Banana smoothie and the Signature Chicken sandwich. The salad was pretty good - fresh avocado, chicken and tasty basil dressing. The smoothie was delicious though more of a room temperature fruit purée than a frozen smoothie. As for the sandwich, the bun was a bright spot, the chicken was bland and dry, and half the Parmesan crisps fell off the sandwich before removing it from the packaging. You can go across the street to Chick Fil A for an equally mediocre sandwich at half the price. The operational issues... We ordered online through the Panera website. We came at the expected pickup time and it took the staff a few minutes to find the order and then another 10 minutes to prepare it. And the bathrooms were out of order.

Yelp
Most of the staff had some of the most unwelcoming faces and attitudes. I waited quite a bit for an untoasted bagel, but didn't complain, just waited. One of the employees asked "what are you waiting for" I proceeded to tell her and she just walked away. When I received my bagel, it was missing a cream cheese so I mentioned it to her and she just pointed behind the counter insinuating to ask them. Pretty positive that she was on the phone with her AirPod in. The girl behind the counter actually spoke with a positive attitude.
google avatar

Laura M.

Yelp
Ghetto! They won't take your order. They tell you to order with the machines. A bunch of 20 year old with no sense in what customer service is. As i was ordering my food, a boy behold the counter is wrapping explicit rap lyrics, another young woman is texting, I don't give a shit, then later i hear her say. I hate this Effen job. Yeah it shows. This place is garbage.
google avatar

Isiah P.

Yelp
I love this Panera. It's just such a welcoming place, and I love the baking smells you get when you walk in. The waits to be served are short, and the coffee is very good. I love the baked goods, especially the bagels. Staff are great, friendly and really try to make customers happy. I have nothing bad to say about this bakery. With the Panera card, I get special deals all the time. I'm so glad they have a location close to where I live. I have been ordering delivery during COVID from this Panera. There were occasional mix-ups as other reviewers mentioned, but they really tried hard to make it right. Recently, the delivery time and order accuracy have drastically and consistently improved. The food is fresh and decent. I also get occasional free bagel for no reason. I will certainly continue to order from here.

Dani B.

Yelp
I would give NEGATIVE 5 stars if I could. I ordered $50 worth of food and drink, only to get 2 drinks and a bag with a single bear claw inside. Whoever works at this location is demented because how LAZY do you have to be to care so little about the work you're doing? Then to add insult to injury, I had to call corporate just to get any kind of customer service since the people at this location refuse to answer the phone. DO NOT ORDER HERE if you actually want to get the stuff you ordered.
google avatar

Muva B.

Yelp
KAREN ALERT. Beware of the management here because they have a true Karen on their hands. I placed a PICKUP order through door dash and was missing an item. No biggie, panera isn't far from me and I was willing to go back to pick it up despite the inconvenience. I called the store so they can make note of what happened and maybe have the soup ready or let the team members know somebody was coming to pick up the soup THEY forgot... apparently that was too much work or too difficult for Ms. Karen, the manager I spoke to, lol. She said people don't just do that? I guess they don't come back for the food they paid for and ordered? So when I asked her why she couldn't just make a note, which most places will do when THEY make an error, she said she couldn't, she needs to talk to her whole team, & she can do without all that extra nonsense since she was getting off of work and to contact door dash, when all she had to do was tell her team somebody was coming to get their soup. Typical Karen behavior. Otherwise, if you have the time to double check your order, Paneras food gets the job done

Annie S.

Yelp
tables are left disgusting and it took 15 min for a untoasted, unsliced bagel. Disappointing.
google avatar

Ametrice H.

Yelp
Panera Bread is a common lunch selection in my home. Generally, we may have it a couple of times a month. This particular location is pretty close to us, so it's an easy choice. If you don't want to dine-in, I suggest ordering only and doing the In-Cafe Pick-Up to make things easy. I've gone in to order a few times and have noticed they can be quite busy. There's paid street parking that can be difficult at times, but there is a garage that you can park in for free for 1-2 hours. Just be sure to get you parking ticket validated before leaving. What I Order: Southwest Chile Lime Salad with Chicken an a cup of Broccoli Cheddar Soup. This was my first time trying this salad and it was delicious, very fresh. The soup is a classic in my opinion and I'll never not get it. I rated this location a 4/5 due to past experiences and the food seeming as though it was made in a hurry (which I'm sure it was) and not being as great as I know it can be. All in all, if you're in the area and need a quick lunch, this is a great option.
google avatar

Jorge C.

Yelp
Drinks and food is great. Everything else it's awful, long waits and they don't call you, nor send the message to let you know your order is ready, staff is chatting and laughing instead of providing the service. Visit another location
google avatar

Jonna N.

Yelp
Closest Panera bread to my home. They validate parking which is nice so you have about 90 minutes to eat or eat and shop if that's what you want. I've noticed that the Caesar salad seems to be less and less each time I buy it. Too bad since I like the Caesar at Panera Bread. I got the Mac & cheese this time. It's gotten better. It was definitely cheesy! My meal wasn't amazing but I felt like it was a good amount to keep me going for the rest of the day!

Yelp
I've ordered delivery from Panera many times over the last 5 years. This Canal St. location is the worst at getting an order correct, no matter what time of day I place an order--and I always order through Panera's website or app, not a 3rd party. Sometimes my orders are missing a bakery item. Sometimes my meal customizations are messed up. And sometimes, like tonight, an entire sandwich or salad is missing. I've received orders with a combo of those issues. I'd say my Canal St. orders are accurate 20% of the time, and that's a generous estimate. Tonight's order was for just 2 items: a full bowl of broccoli cheddar mac and a whole chipotle chicken avocado melt sandwich, both with chips. That's all. It was delivered missing the sandwich. I got both bags of chips, which would be funny if I wasn't so irritated. I'm surprised the mac & cheese was the correct size. This order made me decide to stop ordering from this location. I should've stopped long ago. Trying to resolve the issue made me decide to quit Panera altogether. Panera's site and app make it VERY hard to report something as simple as an item missing from an order. A few times, the site's order status page has given me the option to report this. But many times it hasn't, and I don't think the app ever has. Tonight was the latter scenario: I used the app and the only options I had to report an issue were arrival time (too late or early), order never arrived (mine did, just very incomplete), or "none of the above" which dumped me to Panera's generic customer support form. "Just call the Panara location," you say? Nah, the Canal St. location frequently won't answer their phone. If someone does answer, they're usually very curt (no matter how polite you are) and either argue with you or claim they'll credit your account with a refund--which they may or may not ever actually do. Panera needs to make it consistently easy for customers to report missing items online, so we can quickly get the matter taken care of. I used to order from the State St. location a lot. Usually I'd go pick up in person, but sometimes I had it delivered. That location had issues too, but the Canal St. location makes them look like 4-star service. Too bad the State St. Panera is gone, though at this point I probably won't order from any Panera again. Food's okay, nothing special aside from their breads and bagels, and certainly not worth all this aggravation.

Yelp
Slow service and dirty store. The fountain machine broke. They were selling empty cups and telling customers they couldn't fill them.

K T.

Yelp
Don't waste your money. Gross food. Filthy table. Self serve kiosk. Watch a screen for your food. Waited forever for food at 2:20 pm. $33 for small Mac n cheese and salad with 2 small drinks.

Jake D.

Yelp
This place sucked. There was hair in my food a lest 3 times. How disgusting. Also they did not treat there customers nicely, in fact, they even yelled at me for putting my order in two fast.

Miguel T.

Yelp
Cannot understand why if I have to get on line to order, find a place to sit down, go pick up my food when the beeper goes off, expected to leave the table clean, and they dare to ask for a tip when paying? Is this a joke? What in the world makes them think they deserve one? For just Are we soon going to go to a supermarket, pick up what we want to buy, go to the cashier to pay and be asked for a tip as well? Panera Bread, you are becoming very ridiculous, that's for sure. Besides, your prices are not the cheapest either! You have definitely lost a customer!

Nahir R.

Yelp
In one of the Panera I visited, was in Augusta GA, location close to the YMCA. I bought a breakfast sandwich, I asked for salt because the sandwich is with egg, they told me they don't have salt, and is a policy of the store not have and provide salt to the customer. Please Can any body from Panera Company explain if this is true?

Bailey H.

Yelp
This place sucked. And when I say sucked, I mean sucked. Also it took forever to get our food like a bunch of opps

Katrin K.

Yelp
It's official. Panera has given up on customer service all together. Nooooo staff member in sight. You could be there all day. I'm done.
google avatar

Debra T.

Yelp
I have ordered from Panera at least 6 times in the past year. The quality of there food has declined tremendously. The only thing I would buy at Panera is their bread & sweets.
google avatar

Deserae D.

Yelp
The broccoli cheddar soup is YUMMM. Sometimes this location lowballs you other times it's great I guess it depends on who is their cooks for the day. Chicken Caesar salad, apple fuji salad, green goddess cob salad are the top 3. Sandwiches chipotle chicken avocado and smoke house bbq are The best. Tuna one is really good too.

Yelp
The manager working the line tonight (tall, bald) was so incredibly rude. My order was placed at 6:57 pm and I did not receive it until 7:25. There was one lady working the line with him. She called a name that sounded exactly like Katie- even the person with me thought she called my name. I went up to the pickup counter and she started to ask me about the order, so I realized it wasn't mine and took a step back from the counter. The manager repeated the name, so when I said it wasn't me and backed away further he rolled his eyes at me. I've been in literally that exact position, I know it's stressful and it's probably been a long day. That doesn't mean you get to be rude!

Bri T.

Yelp
I'm still trying to figure out how this sandwich looks remotely close to what it's suppose to be. I was charged to add ingredients and actually end up getting less than what it already comes with! Disappointed

Constantly forgetting items from your order (chips, baguette), constantly omitting key ingredients from orders. Terribly run shop.

Yelp
Ordered online, Ready for carry-out within 10 mins. They have a Rapid pick-up shelf, which is convenient, but I don't know that I like my paid order was just placed on a shelf out in the open for anyone to grab and take off or worse, tamper with. I walked right in -- grabbed & left -- but what If I wasn't the purchaser, you know? This Panera is an awkward location for carry-out on a busy section of Canal St, in the South Loop; South Gate Shopping Plaza. I gather many appreciate-this Rapid Pick-Up option. They also deliver in the area for a nominal fee. On a good note, my broccoli cheddar soup was still hot at pick-up and my ham and cheese sandwich was delicious! Deli fresh. No complaints on Panera's food. Good hearty eats!

Yelp
‼‼PANERA BREAD ON 1101 S CANAL ST‼‼ So today my sister took me to the Panera for my first time because I've never really ate panera, she got me a chicken cesar salad. We obviously were eating there but then I got the rest of it to go, as I was on like my very last bite I notice something that didn't look like the chicken nor the croutons. I was shocked to what I believe is a roaches head starring right back at me. Im shocked and disappointed that they would serve this to people. I'm really hoping this was the only part of the roaches body in here because then that would mean I've ate a roach when I ordered a salad. Thanks Panera for starting my new year off right TIP ALWAYS CHECK YOUR FOOD‼‼‼

Yelp
I went back, expecting another great food experience. Instead, my stomach was upset after eating the sandwich. It was chicken on a baguette. I am very sad. The customers are very nice. The atmosphere was good. The bathrooms are clean and safe.

Yelp
I came here for the first time today and it was unbelievable. The tables were all piled with crumbs or trash. The floor doesn't look like it's been swept in ages. Theirs food on the floor and trash. No one is watching the online ordering for drinks. You can just grab a drink cup even if you don't pay for one. They wouldn't even notice your getting a free drink. Theirs a half booth with a big rip in the seat. It's just unbelievable. People also come in here eating food from other restaurants.
