The Best Restaurants in West Seattle | Eater Seattle

"This is a little bakery from owner Jacques Nawar specializing in choux pastry (pronounced shoe), the key component of eclairs and cream puffs and other sweet treats. The ingredients are all sourced from local farms, with an emphasis on European baking practices. The pistachio choux is a must-try, and make sure to check out the seasonal menu, which changes throughout the year along with the availability of local produce." - Laura LeMoon

my husband and I are starting a new sunday morning tradition - go out for coffee and a pastry and just hang out while we start our day :) Panterelli’s is the perfect place for it! Jacques is extremely kind and welcoming. the neighborhood lines up for all his yummy treats - the pistachio choux & eclair are my fav! super fresh and light - not too sweet. the raspberry is an amazing combo. very lucky to be so close to this place

Google
Panterelli makes the best croquembouche I have ever had! I worry I might get addicted, one of my friends is already long gone! They make really really tasty mochas & croquembouches & my favorite choux with pistachio filling and strawberry chocolate! My favorite pastry spot in Seattle

Wendy C.

Google
I love this bakery since they open. My friend from NJ visiting Seattle, I told her we have to go to this bakery. Each Croissant are different and each kind are delicious. Each different Quiche is very good too. My friend from NJ are very impressive. Because it was so good , we order 2nd round and ordered 2 boxes to go to.

Google
Wonderful place to stop by, have coffee and cream puffs!! People running this place are very friendly and make you feel like you are home :) The pastries and cappuccino I had were extremely comforting and delicious. It was the perfect amount of sweetness I needed!

Coo Coo's Old G.

Google
Dude blessed me with a free juice cuz of the review. Really solid cup of joe. Made with heart and feels like a tiny slice of European culture within the emerald city. Check it out! Sit outside on the patio and feel like the main character

Google
This cafe has a classic and personable ambience. The hot chocolate is I think the best I’ve ever had, super rich and made fresh on the spot, so you can definitely taste the difference. Incredible espresso and choux as well. No doubt a favorite and will be returning to try other items!

Google
Pure excellence! Cream puff is delicate and the filling is not too sweet! Raspberry flavor tastes like real fruit, and I appreciate the transparent sugar glazing on chocolate with pistachios bits on the top of the cream puff. French shop owners certainly know their pastry well!

Christa R.

Google
Lovely little gem in West Seattle! The owners and staff were very welcoming with a wide array of pastries to choose from. The passion fruit choux was very delicious. The filling was light and fluffy and the passion fruit syrup on the top provided tang and contrast to the filling. Portion size was very generous. You can tell Panterelli puts their heart into each pastry they make!

Yelp
By far the best espresso I've had in Seattle. A beautiful layer of crema. Perfectly balanced. Seattle's "best" coffee shops are dismal in comparison. Wasn't in the mood for pastries or food but they looked pretty. I will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
BEST. COFFEE. PASTRY. SHOP. EVER. !!! They are known for their shoe French pastries and omg they are so delicious. I heard a lady order a mocha and said it was really good ao I also ordered one and wooooow. It's a real French mocha. The best in my life. Ever. Jacque is the kindest and most welcoming human. His shop has such a nice vibe and feel. We talked about astronomy and he is just amazing to talk too! I've never felt so comfy at a comfy shop before. It felt like we were locals and were from LÁ! Jacque if you read this, happy holidays and wishing you an amazing new year!!! See you soon. - Dang and Linda

Yelp
We tried this place for the first the other day. And the owner is European, very good smooth espresso coffee. And we had a dessert so good. Wish I could have tried more! The place is small and cute.
google avatar

Yelp
I don't know how people live this place. I support small and local businesses but this place was my least favorite while I was in Seattle. I got the eclair and it was not average it came out of the refrigerator and already had the cream in it. I was told that the pistachio was delicious and I asked for an eclair he didn't even ask what kind I wanted. I guess eclair means with chocolate and something filled I am not even shore what was inside Will I come back no because my chocolate mocha latte badly taste like chocolate when I asked for extra. I am better off down the street coffee shop.

Yelp
Stopped by early morning on a Tuesday! Not knowing what I was in for, I asked what was available. There were fresh, warm raspberry cheese pastries on the counter and some German donuts sitting on a rack. I hope to come by when there is also Choux available, but I think things are a little different during breakfast time! Cappuccino: straight forward, strong, goes well with pastries! Raspberry cheese pastry: the filling was so tasty, no raspberry seeds (a huge plus) and a creamy and slightly sweet cheese filling. Not too sweet at all and the pastry was nice a buttery. Came to us warm and we're so good!

Yelp
Everything was amazing. One of the best pastries we've had and super friendly. The dude was super cool who ran it..
google avatar

Diana C.

Yelp
Very sweet staff here! It's a small space with a couple of seats along the wall. They don't have tea beverages unfortunately, but they do have espresso options. They also seem to mostly have choux pastries, which was unique too. Probably not a great option if you have dietary restrictions, but definitely a unique French bakery to check out!
google avatar

Soo L.

Yelp
Purely based upon on the food, I finally got chance to snag a choux! They were sold out yesterday (Saturday) by noon so I went there today around 9 am. I tried the choux filled with pistachio and love love love. The pistachio cream was not too sweet and balanced well with the chocolate on top. The owner gave me a little tasting of the hazelnut cream and wow! I could eat this all day. He makes all the cream there. It's a small and charming place at the Junction. Can't wait to try the other pastries.
google avatar

Alisha M.

Yelp
I love a crepe but this crepe in particular was stunning! I got the hazelnut chocolate banana crepe. The hazelnut cream piped on top elevated the dessert. Lovely customer service. Gorgeous little cafè. Excited to return.

Yelp
We love it, Jack! The cozy little French style cafe on the street side. The coffee is genuinely nice so is your warm attitude. We love the Eclair you made- the best we had. I even felt nostalgic seeing your Thermomix on the countertop !:)
google avatar

Olga K.

Yelp
Literally the best coffee in west Seattle. You can't go wrong with any of their sweet or savory pastries as well. Small place and can be a line but so worth it!
google avatar

Matthew W.

Yelp
This is one of the best bakeries in Seattle. The choux is always amazing and he occasionally has one day specials. I've never had a bad experience

Yelp
It felt like we were transported to Europe during our visit to Panterelli. The owners were so kind and friendly, and they explained what they make and where it comes from. We had the hazelnut choux and pistachio choux topped with raspberry. They were fluffy, creamy, sweet, divine goodness. The ILLY espresso is truly superior- we loved our cappuccinos and it reminded me of my time in Italy. You do not want to miss out on this lovely patisserie!

Yelp
I am so glad to have this wonderful treasure in West Seattle. Panterelli is absolutely amazing. Jacques (the owner), and his employees, are always so kind, friendly and personable. They are always a pleasure to see. The service is wonderful. I also love the Parisian and authentic French atmosphere of the shop. The desserts are excellent. Jacques makes wonderful authentic Choux à la Crème (French Cream Puffs). They have just the right amount of cream on the inside and just the right amount of chocolate on the outside. I especially love the hazelnut flavor. I definitely recommend this authentic French dessert and coffee shop. If you are from outside of West Seattle, it is totally worth the drive to come and try these delicious desserts!
google avatar

Sandra S.

Yelp
Glad we stopped by here! My boyfriend and I split and choux pastry that was filled with vanilla cream. It was the perfect texture and not overly sugary which I appreciate. So delicious! Will definitely be back!

Randy N.

Yelp
OMG! what a fantastic choux! fresh warm and sooo good. Great coffee and the owner is just a pleasure to talk to. Excited to have my friends from France try this little gem in West Seattle.

Yelp
Super cute place! I didn't have any coffee but the pastries were phenomenal. Highly recommend checking it out.

Yelp
I was thankful that I-5S and 99N were straightforward to/from Shoreline, because I made yet another attempt to check out Panterelli in West Seattle (7/8/23, 8/4/23) after first reading about this indie business in late June. I also had good luck finding nearby street parking in the Junction. I purchased one of each of the three choux items featured in the pastry case on Friday morning, see my attached Yelp photos of whole choux and later halved. Note: the pastry case does not have signage or prices placed with each product. I was charged a flat $17.85 plus tip - this was just under $21. Each item was nicely packaged in Barbie-pink containers with a clear lid and placed carefully in a bag. I was reminded to make sure to refrigerate these choux if not consumed immediately. Duly noted for filled pastries on a summer morning. I would have inquired further about ingredient details and prices. However, there was another individual ahead of me. Plus while in line, I was detecting a strong distinct scent of chocolate. Sure enough, while packaging my items, the presumed owner had to pause and remove a pan of melting chocolate off the burner. Not seeing another pastry assistant in the production area, this was a one man business this morning. It is wasteful to burn chocolate, especially when on direct heat and not melting via a bain marie. So I did not want to further distract the owner with random questions. Plus in my case, the intended choux aficionado does not have a nut, gluten, or lactose allergy. Just take the above into consideration if you or others may have allergies or sensitivities. I would have had an Illy coffee onsite, per the first Yelp review mentioning "Perfect espresso". But the limited indoor seating was all a jumble - chairs all askew among the few tables. Again, that would have been another pause for the owner. I decided to have an espresso elsewhere instead. This bakeshop's niche is focusing on choux pastries, familiar as éclairs or cream puffs. The light airy eggy pastry is filled and dipped with tasty ingredients. I appreciated the pastry cream, but did not really pick up the pistachio flavor profile. The pastry shells were thin so contents were generous, but led to the shells not remaining crisp and a bit soggy. It is telling that the other halves have not been immediately consumed by The Homie. This and other observations resulted in an overall 3 Yelp review. Instagram posts showed another pastry assistant in training. Glad to see that another indie is fairly successful from the get go with early shop closure due to product being completely sold out. Hopefully Panterelli will get their par numbers increased to allow for consistency and variety. West Seattle loves their dessert choices with nearby A la Mode Pies, Cupcake Royale, Flying Apron, and Bakery Nouveau...and now with the addition of Panterelli.

Yelp
Amazing, delicious, savory and sweet options Owner was so kind and relaxed, was in the midst of morning baking. He took time to make a suggestion on a pastry and so glad he did!

Yelp
Jacques was absolutely incredible! An amazing chef who has created such a beauty/magic through his pastries. He's one a kind and treated us like royalty! The best coffee and pastries in Seattle!!
google avatar

Allie Y.

Yelp
Run don't walk to Panterelli! We inhaled the Pistachio Choux and the Vanilla Passionfruit Choux (daily special). The pastry was perfectly light, and the cream was sophisticated yet bold with flavor. Then, the chef surprised us with his Yuzu CroiChoux (croissant+choux!). It's a game-changer. The chef is so kind and the place is small, but chic and welcoming. It's in West Seattle and super close to the Sunday farmers' market, so definitely stop by!

Nadiv G.

Yelp
What a Gem! We stumbled into this humble and authentic French Cafe with no expectations and were blown away. The owner Jacques was working alone when we came in around 1:30p on a Sunday and was already sold out of most of the pastries, but he quickly whipped us up a couple of truly delicious hazelnut filled croissants with a chocolate drizzle on top. If you're looking for high quality pastries and coffee made by a true artisan this is the spot. When entering the small shop you feel like you've entered a true Parisian patisserie. You won't find anything flashy, just great espresso and great pastries with classic delicious flavors.

Lori T.

Yelp
I have nothing but good things to say about this little shop in the West Seattle Junction. Jacques, the owner, is great. He's very personable. The choux / eclairs are wonderful no matter what flavor you get. One is all I can eat because it's so rich.
google avatar

Ashley A.

Yelp
This is my absolute favorite French bakery to go! Unlike some other french bakeries around Seattle and Belleuve, the chouxs are not too sweet but filled with flavors. The shop is small but very welcoming and love the home/neighbor vibe. Also the owner Jacques and his team are just so sweet. I'm kind of sad that I cannot go often I used to due to my work schedule but planning my next visit again this Sunday!

Danielle C.

Yelp
Went for a morning stroll and saw this tiny bakery in West Seattle. I asked the owner what was best thing on the menu that morning. He asked about my likes/preferences and then replied "Sit, I will make you something. You can pay after you enjoy." Can't wait to go back!

stacey d.

Yelp
Amazingly delicious treats, great espresso drinks, and the owner and staff are very welcoming.
google avatar

Kimberly D.

Yelp
Wow! Their pastries are out of this world as is their coffee! There were two guys working and it was a busy Saturday morning, so by the time we got there it was pretty much sold out, but we waited and they were able to fill our order in no time! Very friendly Australian helper and French or Italian owner. Small shop with outdoor tables and maybe a couple indoor tables.

Hannah K.

Yelp
came in here on a whim and was blown away by how kind the owner is. He greets every customer with a genuine 'hello my friend' and has created such a calm environment in his cafe. I ordered a cappuccino and sat to drink it in the cafe. I watched as he joked with regulars, recommended drinks to first-timers & did magic tricks for the children in the cafe. He even gave me a spoonful of the hazelnut filling he was whipping up to 'test' while we sat and chatted. You can tell he cares so much about his business and customer experience. Delicious drinks & refreshingly slow, kind environment!

Liza S.

Yelp
We love this place. We probably grab a couple choux every other weekend. So delicious and made fresh! Jacques is super nice and is always happy to see his customers. Every flavor is so yummy, chocolate, hazelnut, pistachio and vanilla.
google avatar

Aishwarya V.

Yelp
Visited this patisserie and loved the cozy atmosphere. The staff was friendly, and we got to see the treats being freshly made. The owner even gave us a peek into the process. Tried choux pastries in white chocolate passionfruit, classic hazelnut, and pistachio, along with a chocolate mocha eclair. Personal favorite: white chocolate passionfruit, followed by pistachio. The cream fillings oozing out made them deliciously decadent.
google avatar

Denise S.

Yelp
A lovely addition to the Junction! The owner is awesome and the pastries are amazing. I only docked a star because, understandably, he is a one man show and it took a really long time to get our pastries that we ordered as we dined in (a little over an hour and we ordered two eclairs). That being said, the coffee was really good and it reminded me of my experiences in a European coffee bar. Happy to return back to this place and give him my business!
google avatar

Yelp
i'll admit that this is the first of jacques neward's businesses i've been to. pizzeria credo and the now closed naked crepe were always places i walked by but didn't find occasion to go in and try. but today was the day to try out his newest venture and it's a little place that packs a punch! ....that's how i'll always think of panterelli after my maiden voyage this afternoon. some lovely surprises: *the choux flavors on offer today were both equally divine: pistachio and vanilla. *the amount of customers coming in and out was steady so he's clearly got himself a sweet-toothed following. *the owner is welcoming, attentive and accommodating to the desires of his clients. i'm going to keep this place in mind for small gifts for foodie friends and also make an effort to get here far earlier because they were almost entirely out when we arrived just before 2pm it's a dangerous place to know about but also somewhere that couldn't succeed more in evoking european pastry flavor and quality. they were FABULOUS! one per person is more than plenty but twist my arm and i'd probably find an excuse to eat more.

Darcie J.

Yelp
Nothing but good things to say. I got the pistachio choux and it was perfect. Decadent but not overly sweet. Also best cup of coffee I've had in recent memory. The owner, Jacques, is charming and made me feel like a regular even though it was my first time in. Highly recommend.

Kiara C.

Yelp
Everything about this place is beautiful. The service was exquisite and they make you feel welcome and comfortable. Was very satisfied with the coffee and pastries. I got a lavender cappuccino and it was so delicious. They know how to make coffee. The atmosphere was very calm and relaxing. I'm happy to say I found my new spot. I can't rave about this place enough! Very glad I came and can't wait to come back next Sunday!
google avatar

Rachell H.

Yelp
So so yummy!! The kind man who helped us was so sweet. Will definitely come back, a great experience!

David R.

Yelp
Friendly, small with Illy coffee and the best croissants in Seattle. The pastries are freshly made. And I mean fresh, to be measured in minutes not hours.

Jessica D.

Yelp
I love coming here often for my regular fill up of espresso and a delicious pastry! Regardless if I'm just stopping in for something quick on the go or to stay and work for a while this is my go to spot! The service is excellent with the owner always assuring that things are not just good but always great. The vibes are super chill and I feel like I have taken a little trip to Europe each time I stop in. Will suggest this place over and over, hope you get a chance to check it out yourself! :D
google avatar

J D.

Yelp
Great, warm welcome from owner! Fabulous coffee ( best in the area) Tasty pastries !! We will be back soon. Jamie & Julieann

Jalen A.

Yelp
The best espresso I've had in years. My go to spot. Delicious pastries made daily. The owner is so so kind, he is the atmosphere. An espresso master.

Maria V.

Yelp
What a find! Stopped into Panterelli on Sunday after the Farmer's Market, and had the most delicious cup of coffee and amazing hazelnut "choux" (a puff pastry), than any I had in Paris! A couple other customers and I made a date to return Wednesday for Jacques menu launch of crêpes! We were delighted to have hazelnut and raspberry crêpes, and more choux! Jacques is warm and welcoming and has extensive culinary experience, and the quality of ingredients makes for an incredible experience! Absolutely delicieux!

Natalie R.

Yelp
This was my first visit to Panterelli and wow what a great place. Tucked away off the main junction area it has a vibe of something unique. The owner greeted us warmly and was lovely. The pastries were tasty and offered a twist on the traditional croissant. The choux was pistachio with raspberry on top that was the perfect contrast. The cappuccinos were great too!
google avatar

Julia V.

Yelp
I have never had an eclair before- but let me tell you that this is the best sweet treat I've had! This is the type of place that you want to support- the service is amazing the owners are incredibly kind and the eclair/puffs are amazing
google avatar

Debra B.

Yelp
went here the other day, delicious choux pastry and creamy filling, and fantastic espresso. like in Paris!

Olivera T.

Yelp
I finally got to try their pastries and OMG they're exceptional. The cream puffs were so tasty I went back the next day for more but got eclairs instead. Same filling and topping, but easier to cut into pieces and share. My partner and my parents were particularly impressed by the vanilla custard, but I think the pistachio is fun and different. Hopefully I'll try their hazelnut stuff soon. The decor is quirky and unique. Lots of handmade stuff and paintings on the wall. The owner apparently made the custom wood countertops himself. Neat! Parking in the area is easy if you look for a street spot by Safeway. It's a nice place to stop by if you're hanging around the Alaska junction area or going to the West Seattle Sunday farmer's mark. The only drawback I've experienced is they sometimes run out of stuff to sell and you have to wait for a restock. A good sign because they're clearly popular but I hope they up their production a bit to meet demand!
google avatar

Laina V.

Yelp
INCREDIBLE! The baker behind this amazing place is from France and it shows. These French pastries are amazing. I typically prefer chocolate but now I always get pistachio because it's so dreamy. The coffee is also top-notch. The place is quaint and perfect for the vibe. Jacques is the owner and he remembers everyone, so I always feel very welcome when I go!

Alanah B.

Yelp
Finding good coffee in Seattle can be shockingly elusive. Look no further! This was the best coffee I've had in years- masterful barista. Perfect espresso. I wanted to share a photo of the stunningly beautiful eclair I purchased to accompany my coffee but I wasn't able to restrain myself - eating it without savoring. It was incredible. Pastry was tender, crème was flavorful without being overly sweet. The perfect raspberry perched on top nestled amongst tiny pearls of crisp chocolate was a beautiful accompaniment. West Seattle has a new jewel!
google avatar

E.M. R.

Yelp
Decent pastry, well filled. Was understandably running low during a busy Sunday. Seem to be short staffed and doing their best. Disappointed that no one wore gloves to handle food, especially dipping the choux in chocolate with bare hands.

Brett S.

Yelp
Jacques and his staff are true artists of Pastry! I found the place on my rambles the other day and asked Jacques if he could make the famous "Gateau St. Honore" a few days later he phoned and said it was ready, I was stunned by the sheer beuty and attention to detail he put into his creation, the pastry was fresh and flaky, the whipped cream and pastry cream was out of this world, light and not too sweet I would reccomend this shop to anyone who wants the authentic taste of France.

Sara R.

Yelp
Such an awesome spot! On my way to the junction (which I walk to daily). Very friendly environment, owner, and staff! I had a hazelnut choux and espresso and it totally made my morning! I'm looking forward to visiting many times in the future for a coffee and more treats!
