The Best Montreal BYOB Restaurants | Eater Montreal

"This Chinese BYOB is worth the trek to the strip malls of the South Shore for the food alone; in fact, it’s Brossard’s “best-kept secret” according to Cult Montreal critic (and former Eater contributor) JP Karwacki. Look for classic Cantonese, Szechuan, and Chinese-American dishes — and plenty of seafood." - Holly Tousignant

The Best Dim Sum Restaurants in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"Papa Jackie’s compact, bright dining room off Taschereau Boulevard is better known for seafood specialties, though some dim sum dishes are on the lunchtime menu. Try the turnip cake, served in crispy pan-fried cubes and finish up with snow-pea vine leaves stir-fried with garlic. Since you’ve made the trek, ask for the daily soup served in a shapely clay pot, and a whole steamed fish for good luck." - Ivy Lerner-Frank

Montreal’s Best Chinese May Be on the South Shore: Critic | Eater Montreal

"I took the Champlain Bridge to Brossard and found a BYOB, strip-mall spot called Papa Jackie offering a steady stream of Szechuan and Cantonese dishes alongside some Chinese‑American counterparts. Mercifully it doesn’t try to do everything—there’s no pad thai or bibimbap on the menu—and I urged skipping ubiquitous items like peanut butter dumplings in favor of highlights such as perfectly sweet-and-spicy XO sauce scallops and squid and a Peking duck with crispy skin and “juicy chops of bird.” I dubbed it “the community’s best kept secret” and declared it undoubtedly worth the trip to the 450." - Tim Forster

Papa Jackie offers decent Chinese food with consistently good quality. While the prices are on the higher side, the ingredients and preparation generally justify the cost. The parking lot is quite small, which can be frustrating during peak hours. Service used to be more attentive in the past — it’s still acceptable, but not quite what it used to be. Overall, a reliable option if you're craving Chinese, especially if you're prioritizing quality over price.

First time eating here in June 2025 the restaurant is nicely decorated and the staff were very nice. The bathroom was clean and they had a cool aquarium that you could choose your fresh talapia, lobster and crab from. Their menu is very varied, from single plates to full meals for big families. And is in a few languages. We tried Menu C for 2 people that was decently priced. It came with Wonton soup imperial rolls, general taos chicken, beef with vegetables, sezchuan shrimp and rice. The wonton soup broth was very good but the wontons had no flavor and were very doughy. The imperial rolls were better but they give you plum sauce in individual plastic packets like for take out. The chicken was plentiful but just ok in flavor. The shrimp is a bit spicy and the beef was tender. The vegetables with the beef were well cooked and had a tasty sauce. All in all a big meal for a decent price. We found it to be "ok" and the people really nice. If you want a large meal for a decent price then it is worth trying. Also many reviewers mentioned the wait time for a table, we were there on a Saturday around 4pm and we were sat immediately, by the time we were done it was filling up fast...

Initially we went to the restaurant to sit down, but understandably, there is a long wait for a table on Saturday night, so we ordered take out instead. We ordered Yin Yang fried rice and dried fried beef noodles. Usually food is always great here. Food for this takeout is decent today. i would say above average compared to other Chinese restaurants. Had to wait over 20 mins to write down our takeout order because kitchen close at 9pm on Saturday night, and they said they are too busy usually on Saturday night in the last 90 mins before kitchen close. Received the food only after close to 40 mins from the time we arrived. I would suggest, dear readers, that on Thursday to Saturday night, order takeout instead of dining in, and go straight to the Cashier counter where you pay for the bills to order takeouts. Absolutely do not expect the waiters to take your takeout orders. You will wait a LONG time. I would also suggest you order the food from Fantuan or UberEats through deliveries to save yourself the wait time of the food, because it is a long wait in evenings. (Price for UberEats and Fantuan is similar to restaurant takeout or deliveries, no markups in the app like other restaurants :) Lunch service usually is pretty good service. The counter lady with glasses was the onky person who was very nice and helpful.

Very good authentic food. Flavourful. The staff is very nice and courteous. Definitely a great spot for friends/family but not for anything romantic. My biggest complaint is that the price is extremely high per item: about 30% higher than most Chinese restaurants in the same quality bracket.

Great service and delicious food! We were a group of 8 ppl and the amount of food that we ordered and received was very satisfying.

Had dinner at Papa Jackie, they were very busy, and probably short of staffs for the traffic. We ordered five dishes, the food was very tasty and well done, on the salty side for me, but goes well with rice. The service is average due to short staffs, so customers have to be more patient.

We ordered pork liver congee and Xiamen fried rice noodle which is quite good. While the noodles of flat rice noodles w/beef is hard and small in portions. The service of a waitress is particular good.

An authentic Chinese restaurant in the South Shore. The staff is friendly and was very helpful with the menu. The portions were very good for the price. Everything tasted fresh and good. The plates look beautiful and are very appealing to the eyes. The wait can be long, but they accept reservations. We left with lots of leftovers.
