Good hot dogs, however signs said they were 3.50 each. We got 2 and were charged $11. They are taking advantage of people specially at night. Guy at counter said it was taxes but when I asked for receipt it shows the tax is not even $1. He refused to give me an itemized receipt.

Nothing, and I mean nothing, is more New York than stepping into Papaya Dog and just having a quick bite for those traveling around. These days, getting quick meals and friendly service seems like an impossible task in this economy. Not so with these guys. Yes, there are plenty of fine dining establishments in NYC. But give me a dog and juice anytime!

Went for a late snack last night. The dogs were okay. I don't feel like they were fresh some parts werea little tough. Papaya juice was great.

I don't know why I love this place, every time I get a dog I'm disappointed. Still. 4.5 stars. There's an inevitable time in a person late night in New York that some satiating requests from the stomach must be honor and PPD (as I call it) always does the trick. The problem is I always feel terrible the next day, is it me? Is it the PPD? I don't know. Until proven otherwise, we are rounding down.

Place to get a quick bite. I asked for some modifications to my meal and they made the appropriate accommodations. The fish sandwich was solid (good balance of fish lettuce tomato) and bread. The potato knish was decently toasted.

Stumbled onto this spot and tried it kind of for the meme. I give the team credit for really advertising that made me curious about the hotdogs. The hotdog was not impressive, though. The chili tasted and looked like it came out of a can, the dog was just not special (for $4, I shouldn't be too surprised. But I'd MUCH rather have a Costco hotdog for $1.50) The worst part was that the cashier handled cash with his bare hands for the people who ordered before me and proceeded to grab the bread also with his bare hands. That made me really uncomfortable. I decided it was better to ask for an exchange, and luckily another employee in the store understood my issue and made me a new hotdog with a pair of food gloves. I'm glad they understood, but it was all a bit of stressful for a hotdog...

The hot dogs are served super-quickly, helpful if you're almost late for.a 9:30 movie. They're flavorful if a bit less snappy than those from other papaya-named purveyors. The weak link is the orange drink; you can find more citrus appeal from Shop-Rite's Value Bargain Sips.

Much respect to my dudes that work at papaya dog that always have shown me love for years. They have to deal with a lot, especially on the weekends late at night. It's a lot of drunk, demanding, ingnorant people. So, I know it's not easy. These guys always take care of me, and we always talk. Especially coming from work, I usually get my chicken sandwich and a hot sausage, which is always good. So keep it up, my guys, and I always appreciate the love.

My family from out of the country really wanted to check this place out. Wasn't so sure what the hype was all about. The chili dog was good but definitely not worth $5. The hot dog didn't have "snap" to it and the chili tasted like it was canned. The bun itself also was nothing special. Service was about 7 minutes without a line for a 4 person order. The papaya juice was pretty sweet though -- tasted like a melted fruity push pop if you remember those from the ice cream trucks. I personally wouldn't go back, but if you like "cheap NYC eats" and are near by, I'd give it a chance just to get the "New York experience"

It's not very spacious and is divey in an old school kind of way. There's no seating, but there are some tables for patrons to grab a quick standing bite. The restaurant is maintained as pretty clean. My friend and I both got a chili cheese dog and shared the mango and papaya drinks. We were satisfied with our chili cheese dogs-- they were good, but not in an out-of-the-world type of way. The frankfurter tasted fresh, but the chili and cheese did not taste that fresh, probably because they had been simmering in a container for hours before being served. I thought the mango drink was good, but the papaya was delicious and something I would highly recommend! Overall, it feels a little overpriced given the quality of the food. Where this location really lost points for me was the service. Incredible service is of course not expected from a fast food joint, but like many other reviews, the service is just memorably not great. The employees seemed like they were annoyed at us for being there verging on rude.

Average fast food joint. Very grab n go. They have a good location - in the corner, bright lights, open space. Yelp's info is atrocious. Go to Google for more accurate hours of operation. I just got a chili cheese dog. For $7, it was like a fun snack.

Came here around 3am after a night out of drinking. Got the two dog and 16 oz papaya drink combo. Disappointing. The dog were very thin and the papaya juice tasted off. Wouldn't come here again. Go to Zazzys pizza if you have late night cravings

Ok. Papaya Dog runs on nostalgia and late nights. We were headed out of a fun fun night in the West Village and were drawn in by the bright lights (and the memories) of PD!! I went with a straight up hot dog with mustard, didn't get any of the tropical drinks. The frank was solid and the mustard perfect. My friends both went with corndogs. I can't explain it, but they loved them.

Thought it was pretty good, absolutely a local spot. A bit pricy to get any filling food for someone who eats a lot but I'd go back.

This was by far the worst thing I ate while in NYC. I ordered the 2 hot dog special with a soda, which is something advertised all over the place. The employees had no idea what I ordered as they didn't speak or understand English well enough. They were even more confused when I asked them for yellow mustard. The hot dogs were dry and over cooked, as if they were sitting there all day. The bread wasn't fresh either. I would never suggest getting a hot dog from here. You may have better luck at one of those "dirty dog" stands. I also want to mention this food sent me to the bathroom all night long. Not worth it!

My friends and I came here at 3 am as " you have to try this when in NY". There is a menu on top but overwhelming signs everywhere. i had a hot dog with with mayo, ketchup, and sweet onions. I dont really eat hotdogs so i dont have much to compare it to. The place did have multiple homeless people just come in to ask us for $. Its a spot to come when you drunk and grab the munchies.

wish there were more of these and wish inflation just dropped these used to be at a much better price and lower as well. the combo for 2 hot dogs and a drink is always a staple here. the other option is always curly fries as well. the hot dogs are cooked for a long time and have this savory taste that just makes you want to keep eating them in bulk if possible. this has also been a option after a long night of drinks and when you want to just end on a good note.

Papaya dog is one of the best late night options for food in the city! There's one just about anywhere around NYC. My go to is the chili cheese dog and cheese fries. My husband and I came here on NEW YEARS EVE after a night out at the bars with my brother and his girlfriend. It really hit the spot! It always does. This location was great and the wait after we placed our order was a little long for my husband's cheesesteak, but it was worth it. I know I'll be back again. I always get Papaya Dog when it's late and I'm out and about in the city. You can't help it! It's the equivalent of wanting Waffle House late at night in the south after a night of drinking. Haha!

Wifey and I was nearby eating dinner. And then on the way home we walked by here. I was like umm lets stop by here since it's famous. . Went inside and ordered a chili dog. Overall it was good just a bit salty. . There is 2 table for standing to dine in. . It was quick like order pay and pick up. . I wouldn't come back unless I am drunk. The perfect NY snack! Let's be honest no one can fill up on one of these hot dogs but they sure are tasty! Just grabbed one on the go and it was the perfect little snack on my way to the park. It's an iconic food spot, worth trying if you're visiting the city

Classic that doesn't disappoint. I can tell you I considered rioting when I heard their original location was shut down, boy was I happy to hear they just moved down the block. This place is a cultural icon, and despite the snooty gentrification of the upper east, this place will survive and thrive through it all. Deserved.

Commendable use of an isosceles triangle but nothing else to commend here. Dingy interior lacking the curb appeal or pleasant odors of a street vendor. Employees disinterested and somewhat standoffish. Basic brand-less fast food. During daylight hours it was a bad vibe and multiple people walked in and decided to leave without ordering.

I tried a hot dog. I thought it was OK but their papaya juice is fantastic. I tried it along with Gray's and King today and Papaya Dog's papaya juice was my favorite. I'll be going back tomorrow just for the juice.

Again with the Papaya reference! I love these addictive papaya drinks and made sure to order an extra large one with my hot dogs. I ordered a couple of hot dogs with all the fixins' (except jalapenos) and really enjoyed these. My wife isn't really a big hot dog fan (go figure!) so she had the fried mozzarella sticks. This place is like a working man's version of Papaya King up by Central Park. Not as famous but certainly almost as good. And, of course, they have the Papaya drinks!

Come to this alarmingly bright shack for watered down juice drinks and cold hot dogs slathered in stale condiments, 24/7. When I was a teenager, the papaya spots in Manhattan were popular for 50 cent hot dogs that actually tasted delicious and cold, fruity drinks. Those days are far behind us. This section of the West Village turns into Skid Row after hours unfortunately and Papaya Dog is the only place in the area that's open and under twenty bucks. At 330 this morning, I was skipped, bumped by drunks and served turrrible food with a smile. Sigh...

god i love a fucking hot dog. these were delicious and i'd like another one right now. the only reason it's 4 stars and not 5 is because they were some skinny ass dogs, I wish you didn't have to buy more than one but you do. nice employees, quick and easy getaway. will be going again

Service is horrible. Greedy dude has his hand out for money before you even order. I asked for mustard and onions to go, only to find out there were no onions and the hot dogs were cold. Bad experience. Dont do it.

Just about every New Yorker to tell you that this is a staple to try. Hot dogs are good. Little thin. I still like Nathan's as my number one but they're good. They have a good flavor to them, but their papaya juices are good as well so just go and try it. You'll enjoy it. You enjoy it real well

No frills counter for dirt cheap, solid quality, American food The place is cash only, but they have an ATM on sight. They also have a few tables inside, but they are not the most clean. The people who work here are very friendly I got a cheeseburger, fries, and a soda for 6.25$, and I was very happy. 8

The food here is a bit mediocre, and for the most part is kind of oily and not that good. But, when you're drunk or really hungry in the middle of the night, this spot definitely hits the spot at a low price for the area! For $6, you can get a cheeseburger, fries and a drink! It's a little bit better than McDonalds, and has that greasy taste that really helps absorb alcohol. Otherwise though, I wouldn't eat this during the day unless I wanted to save a buck and was feeling extra shitty.

Yum, I got tired of my family chasing mediocre rooftop bars on our trip, so I ran away for better eats in the city. Lucky me, because the best dinners I had this week were stumbled upon just like Papaya Dog. I was originally drawn to the pizza joint next door, but as I stepped closer I saw city dwellers walking away with hands full of chili cheese dogs and juice! Yum! I diverted paths and headed towards hot dogs instead. A friend and I ended up sharing chili cheese dogs, a cheesesteak, fries and I got a mango juice to myself. The perfect combo of sweet and salty to revitalize me for the next long walk we had. Juices are creamy and kinda thick in a great way. Dogs are thin and salty and perfectly dressed how you request. If I lived nearby I'd have this every week. Yummy and fast and all for the $20 bill I had in my pocket.

This place is super confusing there's no menu just a ton of signs everywhere that overwhelms you. The staff won't help. I got a hot dog with onions, it's not fresh onions it's a weird stinky stew like onion concoction. Rude staff, awful food. No thank you, next!

This place sells dogs, the hot and corn kind. It's good for late night munchies when you want something quick without committing to too much food. When I ordered it, they refried it for me to warm it up. Never had a doubly fried corn dog but it was darn good late at night. It's also partially split at the top to cook faster and cook faster for immediate consumption.

I came in here about 2 PM today to get some food to soak up a little alcohol. It was snowing and cold and this was close to where I'd been watching pre-game coverage. I ordered large cheese fries to go. It was ready in 2 minutes. The fries not covered in cheese were crispy and salty. The cheese sauce was just enough to cover. It tasted like spicy Mexican queso which I love.

3 Stars for the food, 4 Stars for service Food is good, nice variety and everything is hot and satisfying, especially in late hours. Crew is welcoming and accommodating, patiently taking orders and getting food ready quickly- for a crowd that is often not at their best!

Although they aren't grays they do the trick if you are looking for a good hot dog. We always get 2 hot dogs and a juice . I prefer mine with onions, kraut and mustard which is definitely the way to go. You definitely cant beat the price for a quick snack , lunch or even dinner. They are right in the village and you can find plenty of other locations throughout the city. This has been a go to spot for us since grays left the village area..

Ok let's just step back and give this place the respect they deserve. This isn't some high end handmade sausage place with trained staff. This is a sabrette hot dog smothered in whatever canned or bagged item you want. The chili and cheese comes out of a can and i wouldn't have it any other way. The foreigners behind the counter aren't "nice" they are hard to understand and want you to hurry up so they can serve their next customer. This is New York it a nutshell. The homeless guy sleeping outside expects a dollar so give it to him. You want good service and handmade sausages that cost $10 a link go to SoHo. This sloppy dog with perfect snap grilled to perfection is something special. I have been eating grilled and dirty water sabretts since I was a little boy. I LOVE everything about this place. Any real native will tell you the Sabrett is sacred in this city. I will always come here...

This place is horrendous! Dirty inside and out. Trash covering the entrance, sauce covering the walls, roaches and rats running around too. The staff is mean, the food makes you sick, and it feels unsafe to be in there. Shocked the city hasn't shut down this establishment yet. Stay away!

What's there to say about Papaya Dog that hasn't already been said. Papaya Dog is definitely a staple of the West Village. Somewhat good food for a good price. I say somewhat because the food won't make any top ten lists anytime soon but will definitely satisfy your hunger and your wallet. I'd recommend getting one of the meals (burger, cheese steak, hot dog, etc. with fries and their fruit drink).

Classic. The recession special is now 2 dogs for $5. SHAKES Very watered down but have an addicting carbonated quality to them, as my brother likes to say "papaya is good for digestion" haha! TOPPINGS Cheese Chili Mustard Ketchup sauerkraut etc. MY GO-TO Traditional mustard n' sauerkraut, yum! Chili This place is a NYC institution - a must if you're visiting for the first time.
