Fall 2020 Restaurant Openings in and Around Boston - Eater Boston

"Puerto Rican pop-up PapiVivi now has a storefront in Lynn (816 Boston St.), serving a small menu of sandwiches, salads, empanadas, and a few other items. The sandwich selection is headlined by the tripleta, a trio of ground beef, shredded pork, and chicken breast pressed with chopped cheese, lettuce, tomato, crunchy potato sticks, and a sauce that combines mayo, ketchup, garlic, and cilantro. PapiVivi is a father-and-daughter endeavor, run by Sam Cortiella, aka Papi, and young daughter Vivi." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

It’s a small inconspicuous place where you would never image getting the quality of food that is in this small quaint place. It begins with the friendliest hello when you walk in from the owner! Decor is simple and much like you would find in Puerto Rico! The wonderful scents of Puerto Rican spices permeates your nose and captivate your mouth, stomach and mind wondering what that is there are cooking. Like walking in to my Moms kitchen! I was instantly brought back to Puerto Rico as I took joy in the simple yet sweet reminders of my beautiful island of Puerto Rico! I wanted one of everything on the menu as each dish tantalized my appetite! So we decided on a Tripleta bowl with avocado and a Tripleta sandwich to go. The owner suggested we try the mayo ketchup which I personally am not a fan of that is until I tasted HIS recipe!!! Wow!! Wow wow!! Delicious perfection! The portions were plenty and the flavors were incredibly delicious…the best flavors of seasonings I have EVER had in my life!! The mayo ketchup with his special ingredients complimented my tripleta bowl which was already the perfect marriage! Pure and sheer joy with each bite!! Never disappointing as the chefs fresh herbs and spices were pure perfection!! My friend’s Tripleta sandwich she said was pure perfection as well!! Moist and full to the max with protein and his special mayo ketchup! This was and should be a 5 Star restaurant with a reservation of upwards of a 1 year wait list…. it’s that good!! It’s a MUST visit if you’re ANYWHERE in Boston! Chefs kiss for the food as well as the portions given…my only regret was not ordering a few platters to take home to NYC! I’m eager to visit again and try yet another incredibly delicious dish or two on the menu and this time with a few appetizers as well! Thank you PapiVivi for your hospitality and incredibly delicious food!! I’m a HUGE foodie and your place left a lasting impression and I can’t wait to come back!

Greatest atmosphere and experience I’ve ever had. Just great people making great food. The loaded fries were so good that I forgot to take a before picture. This is the type of food that requires a nap after you finish eating!

Insane sandwiches. The tripleta here outclasses many other sandwiches of the same genre far and wide. It's my clear favorite. The meat packed inside is itself packed with flavor and super tender. They break apart easily with each bite. The sauce inside, though... that sauce goes craaaazzyyy. It ties the whole sandwich together and makes your tastebuds soar so high they could give the Lord a Hallelujah, Amen, and a high-five out of joyous gratitude. Seriously though, that flavor comes through like a thief in the night. Divine. The bread to meat to veggies to sauce ratio is golden. It is as if they were all made for each other. The staff here is also very warm, friendly, and cheerful to serve. This place is a must try gem of gems, and I will certainly be back for more!

This place is a hidden gem, Puerto Rican sandwiches Quick Service concept started by a father and daughter, so instead of a mom and pop it's more of a pop and daughter place! Papi is the dad and Vivi is the daughter. ❤️💙 PapiVivi Lynn MA This place is one of those "Shut Up And Take My Money" spots that you are going to want to go back to over and over again. Everything was ridiculously good, starting with the tripletta empanada stuffed with spiced beef, chicken, and pork perfectly cooked in a great flaky dough. The sandwiches were overstuffed with lots of flavor in every bite. The tripletta sandwich was probably my favorite, but the chopped cheese switches basically like a Puerto Rican style steak and cheese on steroids which then gets pressed like a panini, is super popular as well. I think six or seven people ordered the chopped cheese while I was there shooting. Must visit.

If the food doesn’t speak for itself then I will. I knew I was walking into a place that knew what they were doing based solely on the greeting and customer service from start to finish. I was sold before I even tasted the food but obviously I had to get what I went in for. We went in solely for the chopped cheese because we’ve heard great things about it. However I’m a visual eater and checked out their IG and I couldn’t decide what to get at that point lol I was torn and ended up getting the chopped cheese , chichi drink and loaded fries. He even went above and beyond and made some fresh beef and cheese empanadas for us because that was one of the things I walked in there knowing I wanted to try but they sell out as soon as they open. While talking I mentioned I wanted to try the Carne Guisada but that I would come back for that ……….. he gave us samples ( all three of us ) ! It was so good I added it to my order right then and there and knew I wanted to heat it up later! Because I said that out loud , they went ahead and separated the ingredients for me on the carne guisada to make it easier to heat up! I can go on and on but just go try it for yourself! You will not be disappointed! THANK YOU PAPI VIVI !

Google
Best Puerto Rican food in Lynn. Best empanadas, best burritos and chopped cheese, and best habichuelas around. And now they have pizza too?!!! This place just doesn’t miss for real. Try the Tripleta sandwich or burrito, it’s a whole meal and so addictive!!

I've been trying to find a LEGIT puertorican spot, look no further! It's worth the drive no matter where you come from. Food, service, prices are AMAZING. Yelp
Nicest guy with great food! JC's chopped and Pernil sandwiches are fantastic, but don't forget the sauce, it makes it all even better :-) I haven't had a bad thing, try it...you won't be sorry!

Yelp
Papivivi always cooks up 5/5 experience. The food always taste unbelievably fresh and is made hot to order. The owner has a wonderfully positive and energetic personality that makes you feel like part of the family when you are there. I always order a chopped cheese and my daughter loves the burripleta. I love it here and can't say enough good things about it.

Yelp
Omg this place has the BEST Guava & Cream cheese empanadas!!! My Favorite sandwich so far is Papi Pernil. Everything is fresh and seasoned to perfection! The owner is amazing and extremely welcoming! Y'all need to go to Papi Vivi's!!!!

Yelp
This tiny shop serves some good Puerto Rican food. They mostly have sandwiches, but also empanadas and you can make rice bowls too. The staff is super friendly. The empanadas are excellent. They told me they run out of the guava ones early, which is to be expected. I liked my pernil bowl. It was huge and the pork was excellent. The beans were also good. I'd return when I go back home.

Yelp
Stopped by Papivivi Sandwich this afternoon after hearing nothing but rave reviews from friends. I was really hoping to try their Tripleta sandwich but as soon as we walked in the really kind man (wish I got his name) at the counter immediately greeted and informed us that they unfortunately ran out of bread for the weekend. I was bummed at first but I settled for their rice bowl (with chicken and beef). My boyfriend got their Burripleta. My boyfriend asked if it was okay to add fries inside of the Burripleta and the guy was so nice and excited for us for this combination lol. Let me tell you, although I was bummed they didn't have any bread so I could try the Tripleta, even something as simple as my rice bowl was amazing and so flavorful. My boyfriends Burripleta with fries was delicious! We also got the empanada and they were so nice and light & tasty.. not overly greasy. I know it may go over peoples heads these days but good service and a friendly face makes all the difference. After the kind encounter, excellent food was a plus. We will return for sure so I can try that Tripleta!

Yelp
Thank you papi vivi for dinner ! These sandwiches were THE BOMB.COM !!! Everything had delicious flavor even down to the garlicy goodness of the bread they used. I got the sofrito chicken (DELICIOUS) but my mum who got the pernil said it was so soft and flavorful. Adding a side of fries is a perfect match for these sandwiches. Great costumer service , I will be coming back.

Brian D.

Yelp
Extremely consistent with friendly staff--well worth smelling like garlic butter the rest of the day.

Yelp
Went yesterday for lunch. Got the JC Chopped Cheese for second time. Food and customer service is amazing. Great spot to grab a quick lunch... will be returning!

Yelp
One of the best sandwiches of my life. I hardly ever do online reviews but this place is exceptional. The tripleta is the absolute bees knees. I ate it so ravenously I forgot to take a picture of the sandwich but here is a consolation picture of the loaded fries which were also great. Do yourself a favor and don't miss this baby.

Yelp
The food was amazingly delicious! We ordered the sofrito chicken, tripleta, and cheese fries. The sandwiches were extremely flavorful and yummy. We also had some passionfruit juice. When my husband came back from picking up the food, he said the owner was extremely friendly and excited about his business. Definitely try these sandwiches, they are very delicious and I haven't had anything like them before.

Lucy A.

Yelp
Just ate the JC chop cheese for the first time and wow. Cooked to perfection. There was crunch from the bread in every bite. The flavors were amazing. My first time going here and I will definitely be going back!

Yelp
My husband and I decided to try this restaurant after hearing good things about it. Small place, take out only. I got a sandwich with pork shoulder and my husband got a vegetarian sandwich. Both phenomenal! Owner was so nice too. Sandwiches are made on fresh, soft bread and even have potato sticks in them.

Yelp
After a hike through the Lynn Woods Reservation, I stopped by Papivivis. You can smell the Puerto Rican flavors as you walk in. Everything is made to order and super fresh and super tasty. Sam is one of the owners. Super chill super easy going guy . Can't wait for my next visit !
google avatar

Princesa S.

Yelp
The owner was very nice. I ordered a sandwich which I heard a lot of people raving about. It was not what I expected. Maybe I'll try the restaurant again when I'm in the area when another item on the menu.

Yelp
New sandwich spot in the neighborhood. It used to be a pizzeria, now they're serving Puerto Rican inspired sandwiches. Went in and was amazed with the flavor and quality of the sandwiches. To my surprise they are serving pizzas, also recommended. A new neighborhood gem!

Samary M.

Yelp
I was born and raised in Puerto Rico and I can say that the authentic Puertorican cuisine flavors are 100% in PapiVivis food. The Vivís Tripleta was delicious! I wish I had asked for a bit of their homemade "Pique" hot vinaigrette. The Pernil is flavorful and so next time I will try the pernil sandwich. I love Empanadas and so I order all three kinds, beef, cheese and Tripleta. They were completely filled with meat and cheese I have no complaints I just want to go and get more. Im sure I will be a regular here. I also had a passionlemonade for drink and I can say is also delicious. Is not too sweet or too sour is perfectly balance. Also the service is great and they speak Spanish! I am sooooo happy we are so closed to this new gem in Lynn! Welcome to PapiVivis and Staff!

Ben B.

Yelp
Great spot definitely recommend the JC chopped that's my go to there also had the tripleta bowl and that was unreal 10/10
google avatar

Aku T.

Yelp
Ordered pernil with with rice. It was cold like it's been sitting around all day. No pizza. Fail so far. The countdown to their demise is on.
google avatar

Greg B.

Yelp
Best empanadas and sandwiches in the north shore. The papivivi sauce is crack, I buy a large tub every time i go in there to ensure I have plenty to put on burgers, sandwiches and anything else really...
google avatar

Isaac G.

Yelp
Went there cause I was missing home, and I felt the warmth of the island as soon as I walked in. The smell of fresh bread was beautiful. I asked for a veggie tripleta with beans and it was perfect. And They have passion fruit juice! So good. Definitely recommend.
google avatar

Ron I.

Yelp
Great spot! Super friendly owner(Sam) - he recommended the Tripletta which was amazing - the bread, the meat and all the condiments were super fresh and tasty. Will definitely come back!

Alfredo S.

Yelp
Just got a single Vivis Tripleta sandwich and was so upset with myself for not getting more! Half way through the sandwich I was kicking myself wanting another one and the people behind the counter were super friendly. Can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Kevin C.

Yelp
Good tripleta sandwich! One of the first things I do when visiting Puerto Rico is get a tripleta.. so to know there's a local spot that makes good ones outside of the island is great. If you're missing that authentic Puerto Rican tripleta taste then try this place.
google avatar

Christian M.

Yelp
Can't say enough good things about this place. The customer service was great. Friendly staff that takes the time to talk with you, make recommendations, and ensure you're getting everything you need. The food was just as good if not better than the service. Had the Papi's Pernil, Veggiepleta, Beef Empanada, and cheese fries. Everything ordered got rave reviews. I could literally put the papivivi sauce on anything. I'm so glad I tried this place and you should try it too.
google avatar

Martin F.

Yelp
Best PuertoRican samich spot in the area. Food is always tasty and on point! The owner makes you feel at home with a friendly greet and a smile. The tripleta is my favorite which I order two because I can't get enough.
google avatar

Dan V.

Yelp
New restaurant opened on the west side of Lynn. Don't sleep on it. Food is fantastic. Their version of mayo ketchup is delicious. I got the tripleta sandwich and fries. Didn't even have time for a picture. As we drove home the smell in the car was intoxicating. Couldn't wait to get home and dig in. next review will have pictures. also had the chicken and cheese empanada. so juicy and delicious. Empanadas are a little expensive compared to others in the area but well worth it. flavor was on point for Puerto Rican Street food you find at Spanish/Puertorican festivals.

Susan G.

Yelp
Great little spot for pizza and traditional Puerto Rican bows, salads and sandwiches. No eat-in at the moment, due to covid, but great take-out and delivery. There's parking out in front. The shop ( a former Greek pizza shop) has been renovated and updated. The owner (Sam) was brought up in Cambridge and Puerto Rico and also was a great baseball player! He worked in the NYC Public Schools for years before leaving to create his dream: Sharing Puerto Rican food with the world! He's been open since March 2020, and despite the pandemic, he's doing it and well. The owner is Sam Cortellia-Hunter. (I am not sure if that's the accurate spelling). It's worth the trip. In nice weather, there's a little park next door and a bike trail over the marshes.
google avatar

Jennifer S.

Yelp
We've gone twice; once when we drove by it and got excited to see a Puerto Rican restaurant in our neighborhood. I told everyone about it and we ended up going again for empanadas and sofrito chicken: both "bomb" l! More than anything we are happy to support a local business with delicious food.

Liana S.

Yelp
First time comming here and imma say I will be back I got the Sofito chicken. And let me tell u that bread they use is amazing. Also the workers are very friendly Also they are super cute
google avatar

Deanna T.

Yelp
Amazing food!!!! The Vivir Tripleta is one of the best sandwiches I've ever had!!! This place is definitely worth a visit!
google avatar

Helen A.

Yelp
Let me tell you, Papivivi was actually fantastic. The vibe is great. Everything I've tried until now has been fantastic. Staff are really nice and service is really quick. Good stuff.

H G.

Yelp
Unbelievable food! Fresh and delicious. Every sandwich we ordered was fabulous! Great service, owner is so nice!

Darcy M.

Yelp
Being Puerto Rican and having tripleta multiple time in my life this just didn't do it for me. The meat tasted heavily of sofrito( if you know you know), not that I don't like sofrito but it was definitely missing that flavor that love you would get from having them on the island. The sauce was great but there wasn't enough to save the tripleta. I really wish I loved it but I didn't. I guess the only thing I can say wasn't disappointing was the fries. They were great and salted perfectly. The food was lack luster to say the least.

Rebecca A.

Yelp
Super delicious spot. Get yourself a tripleta and some jugo de parcha. So glad you cooking up this heat Papivivi!
