Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen - Review - IAH Airport - Houston - The Infatuation

"If the desire for a big meal of alligator bites and loaded gumbo strikes you after spending an hour in the security line, you can head to Pappadeux. The menu at this Cajun seafood restaurant is extensive and includes jumbo crabcakes with lemon caper butter, bowls of crawfish étoufée, and scallops over orecchiette pasta. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Gianni Greene

I've been waiting to write this review for years, as it's been a long time since I've had to use this airport as my hub, but it's still there - the salmon burger. In case you're wondering why I had to wait years to write this review, it's because the meal I always order is only available at this location, and I needed to make sure they were still serving it before I added it to maps. They are, and it's all good as ever. The service is still top notch, but keep in mind I sit at the bar all the time because it's faster to close out checks that way when you're traveling (no waiting to get the attention of a server). The atmosphere is only for stars, well, because it's still an airport after all. They do the best they can to make it feel like a separate entity, placing it on the second floor, behind a giant marlin (Chuck Bartowski style), but my ultimate reason for visiting is still the burger. You would imagine after having tasted a wagyu burger, this burger would seem like it wasn't in the same league, but it's just the opposite. This restaurant has the freshest fish because the majority of seafood for Texas is shipped from Houston. It's sushi grade salmon served with chipotle-spicy coleslaw, and a heap of fries. I still can't finish all the fries, but I gave it the "good ole college try." 😏 Of Houston is your connecting airport, and you have a little over an hour, you can make it E4 and get your burger on. I should mention a burger of this quality isn't exactly cheap, so you're looking at about a $45 meal.

Wandering in here while waiting on our plane. This being the only restaurant with some decent ratings at the airport we only hoped to get some decent food. Boy, little did we know the gastronomic feast that would await us. We opted for the shrimp brochette and calamari starter to share among the four of us. Followed by the pasta with scallops, crab and shrimp. This proved to be the best fish we've eaten all week during our trip through Texas. Tastewise this could easily pass for a Michelin dish! Well done kitchen! Everything was cooked to perfection and perfectly seasoned. We went up to the kitchen to pass our congratulations to them. Well done! Service was excellent as well. Never eaten this good at an airport!

Google
Yeeooo czek me out im dropped ze duece! What a solid airport meat! Great mixed drinks Fresh seafood Incredible value! Rebecca was our waitress and she was great especially with a toddler. Can’t go wrong eating here ample seating with a view Also they have Blantons and ask your boarding time when you first sit down they are so on their point living in nyc I have never had that happen once

Google
What delicious food! I had the salmon burger and it was HUGE, and tasty. This is located in the E terminal, and they ask you when your flight is to make sure your food arrives on time. The restaurant is nicely decorated, the service is fast and friendly, and the food is top-notch. My first experience at a Pappadeaux, but certainly not my last.

Google
Had an amazing experience at Pappadeaux last night..our server from Poland was on point and a firecracker making our visit even that much better. Alligator was so good we had to order more . The manager came over enlightening us on the story of the family and it's evolution. Very interesting and Thank you . Definitely recommend checking out anyone of their locations ..the thing that stood out most was how the family took care of their staff as if they were family as well. Its the same Morales I run my companies. Well.done , I will be back ,☘️

Google
Decent food and a nice spot to sit and eat. I didn’t expect it to be upstairs, but that was fine for me. I took the stairs and they have an elevator. The food was as good as any other Pappadeaux. The prices were hiked (captive audience). The server that I had was cordial, but they didn’t want to be there. The cook staff were using a bar to prep for the day and it felt sloppy and mismanaged. I did see true friendships on the staff with hugs and good fun conversations. Good work making this happen for your staff, Mr. Manager. I think fixing a few issues would bump my rating up. I do wish the price would drop to be on par with non-airport franchises, but I get it.

Google
Great food. They will give you a lot of sauces so it is better if you ask them to bring it on the side. The salmon burger is one of the best.

texas tastes

Google
The chicken Alfredo was terrible. The sauce tasted weird and the chicken was so dry. The gumbo was ok. The seafood bread was very delicious.

Yelp
had to try this place myself since I've never seen a restaurant with higher ratings than pappadeaux. I was in terminal C so it was about a 10 minute walk to terminal E. Completely worth it. I enjoyed the food so much I'm already planning the next time I come back. Service was quick and the servers were extremely nice. The restaurant is on the second floor and you get a nice view of the terminal lol. I ordered the grilled snapper topped with crab and grilled shrimp with a side honey glazed carrots. The snapper was very flavorful and buttery. The seafood and andouille gumbo was my favorite. Every bite just kept getting better and better. I can't wait to come back again!

Yelp
It's edged in stone. Whatever city I'm in, even at the airport, if I see a Pappadeauxs, I'm going to eat there! On a layover in Houston, my eyes lit up because I saw my favorite outside of the DMV restaurant, sitting on the 2nd level. I grabbed my girl and said, let's go. Usually I like her input, not this time tho..Lol The food was great, however, it was a limited menu which was a little downer. Had my mouth set on some charbroiled oysters.. Oh well! The food I did have, drinks and service were on point, so yes, you'll get the same treatment as the full sized Pappadeauxs, just minus the menu. If you have time and an appetite while inside IAH, check out southern cuisine at its finest at Pappadeauxs.. you'll leave with a full belly and a huge smile on your face!

Yelp
My first time trying Pappadeaux during my visit to Houston. The service was excellent and the location is a level above the busy airport area. I sat at the bar and got myself a drink while I waited for my food. I paid $27 before tip just for this little cup of gumbo and a beer... while the gumbo was indeed delicious, it was certainly overpriced... good thing I was craving it hard enough to go to the other side of the airport lol. The broth was flavorful and shrimp and andouille were super tender too. If I ever visit the south again I intend to try one of their entrees (and perhaps with more money in my pocket...)

Yelp
Don't think airport restaurants are bad ... well, not all of them at least. Service and ambience: This is one of the best 'not airport' feel restaurants I have been to. Located away from other airport noise and travellers. The place has nice interior. Service was very good on top of everything. Food and drinks: Two words - very good! I ordered wild caught snapper and crab. The sauce that came with the dish was well balanced and accompanied the seafood well. Scallops and shrimp pasta were equally good. Key lime pie dessert was the 'cherry on the cake', no pan intended. Pricing: $$$ but well worth it!

Yelp
It had been awhile since i last ate at a Pappadeaux so I decided to get a to go order for my plane ride home. This was the first visit to the Pappadeaux inside IAH. It was located upstairs by gate E4. It was smaller than their typical restaurant but served up most of their top Cajun food offerings. Prices were a bit higher unfortunately but expected inside the airport. To go orders were taken at a separate window by the kitchen. I ordered my favorite crawfish etouffee with dirty rice (instead of the standard white) and only had to wait around fifteen minutes. It came in a plastic to go container that was quite large. The crawfish was plentiful and meaty in a rich gravy with a buttery taste. I prefer dirty rice since it's so much more flavorful with ground beef and spices. It was a filling meal that satisfied my Cajun cravings that day. I always hope Pappadeaux will one day open a location in California so I don't have to travel so far!

Yelp
As soon as you step off the elevator, you are greeted warmly by the hostess. Our waitress was prompt in taking our drink orders. I requested a Life's A Peach cocktail drink. It was refreshing and topped with gummy rings. We ordered alligator bites, which were very tasty. Two of use ordered chopped salads, which were a very nice sized portion. You have an option to add a protein. I ordered the fried shrimp with fries. Oh my goodness, this dish was so delicious. The shrimp were lightly fried and had a great texture. I tasted my friend's chopped salad. It was amazing. Each entree was served with tasty sauces/dips. Service was impeccable. If you don't want to sit at the tables, there is an option to sit at one of two of their bars. It has a great view of terminal.

Yelp
I used to go to Houston every month or 2 but this time I actually caught a flight to make sure I land a hour before the airport one closes at 8pm. Coming from San Francisco I had 12pm flight or a 1 and was so happy it didn't close. I ordered that catch of the day recommended from the bartender. I don't know how they made them carrots because it looks like sweet potato... and that fish with whatever sauce they put on lol they ain't got that in San Francisco period... this meal was so fire for a layover smh... lol when I got to my destination I had to tell my cousin this food so fuckin fire like damn I would eat out more if I get stuff like this lol

Yelp
Had a really long layover in Houston and stumbled upon this restaurant! The restaurant is upstairs and honestly made me forget I was in the airport. The service was amazing with the manager making sure everyone enjoyed their meal and refilling drinks. Food came out fast and the pasta was one of the best plates of food I've ever had in an airport. Their dishes are alittle pricey but worth every penny! This will be my go to spot whenever I have a layover in Houston. Must try!

Yelp
I was actually very surprised at how good the food was at this airport location. The last time I had Pappadeaux's outside of Dallas, it wasn't this good. Everything was fresh and piping hot. The alligator was seasoned perfectly but, the catfish could've used more seasoning although it was cooked to perfection. Service was great, Mariah helped us and was very sweet. Would grab a bite when in IAH again.

Yelp
In area of E-24. You can take the stairs up or elevator I had a guava spritzer (about $16) which was delish and the Crispy Atlantic Salmon and Scallop ($41) Came with about 5 pieces of large tasty shrimp Also had 1 delish Scallop and the salmon ( i got medium well ) was divine! All comes on a bed of sauteed spinach

Yelp
Sorry for no menu pictures this time. Checking in at terminal E and there is a Pappadeaux's!! Sat quickly. Can see our terminal from our seat. This is not a fast food restaurant expect to wait for your food. Definitely loving my pasta and I had alligator bites for appetizer. Sorry forgot pictures of that.

Yelp
This restaurant is inside the IAH airport and after you go through security. Due to the construction it was challenging to navigate how to reach the location. Once you find it you will take the elevator to the restaurant floor where you will be greeted by hostesses. Service: 10/10 Our server was great. She checked on us frequently and was willing to answer questions we had about the menu. She even added a sauce of the salmon on the side which was a great call because I needed not liking the sauce. Food: 9/10 We were hungry so I didn't take pictures of the entrees which were a burger and salmon. Ambiance: 10/10 It doesn't feel like you are at the airport which was a plus. It gave my husband and I an opportunity to relax, chat quietly before our flight boarded. I would recommend and will return if flying through IAH again.

Yelp
Pappadeaux Seafood is one of my Cajun faves. I was excited that we had a connecting flight in Houston from FL. Ordered the following: Crab & Spinach Dip - 10/10 Must order! So very good served with 2 soft Parmesan crostini and generous amount of lump crab. Seafood Gumbo - 9/10 This one was not bad but I probably would have enjoyed better the shrimp version only. Crispy Atlantic Salmon & Scallop - 10/10 Served with 3 pcs of seared shrimp in lemon butter sauce over a bed of sauteed spinach. Very tasty. Definitely would consider connecting in Houston to experience this again!

Edana G.

Yelp
The service was good but it was $40 for some pasta and shrimp. Which I was willing to pay but it was very salty. It was still good though but for such expensive pasta I was hoping it'd be seasoned correctly.

Yelp
Arrived at IAH a little before noon and perused the lunch options at Terminal C and it looked sketchy at best. Decided to go to Pappadeaux in Terminal E and it was well worth the trip. Got seated immediately upon arrival and the first thing they asked was my flight time to make sure that was accounted for. I had a 3 hour layover so I could take my sweet time. I ordered a half/half sweetened/unsweetened tea (I know, blasphemy) and a Chopped Salad with Fried Crawfish. Here is the description of the salad from their website - Mixed greens with tomatoes, egg, honey bacon, red onion, avocado, aged cheddar & Jack cheese with creamy vinaigrette. What they don't tell you is this thing is massive. Every component is fresh and delicious, but special shout out to the amount of avocado (half a large avocado), the honey bacon (cooked perfectly), and the creamy vinaigrette on the side. How is creamy vinaigrette not more of a thing? Delicious. Fried Crawfish - plentiful, lightly battered, tender on the inside. Two thumbs up. Staff here is very attentive, but relaxed. Love the atmosphere here. If you're looking for a great meal (not just by airport standards), I'd recommend giving Pappadeaux a try. It lifted my spirits instead of beating me down like most airport food.

Yelp
The last place at IAH were you don't need an app to get a beer. I could have 4 by the time pre tip the "servers" of qr-land. Hate it. But not at oappadeaux? Live humans that ask your name. Great bar. Nice dinning area. I have chopped salad with salmon and it was awesome! Ask for Janna at the bar. She'll give you excellent human customer service and you don't even have to self check out .

Yelp
Visiting Houston and wanted to try this place. We went during Happy Hour. The HH menu was pretty limited so I ended up ordering off the regular menu. Our server, Najee, was busy, but very friendly. I ordered the Trout and Shrimp that came with potatoes. The trout was delicious and hot. The shrimp were big and seasoned well. The potatoes weren't seasoned as well. I also sampled some of my friend's appetizers that she had ordered and they were pretty good. Overall, I enjoyed the food and drinks and will go back; just not during Happy Hour.
google avatar

Mike B.

Yelp
A pricey, but good airport location. We both had giant burgers and they were too big to finish. That's a good thing. Nick was our bartender and he was great. Don't know if we'll be back because of the location, but we had a great experience.
google avatar

Yelp
I was told Pappadeux chains are the go-to place in Houston and I've tried it twice and not impressed. The first was the cantina which serves Mexican cuisine. Today I decided to try their seafood at the airport on my home to California. The dish was recommended by the waitress as it was their daily special. I found nothing special about it besides lacking any flavor. Overall, both restaurants were pricy for the food they serve.
google avatar

Jovan B.

Yelp
Love Papadeaux! It resembles all the other Papadeaux's with a southern vibe, the staff works fast and efficient . This is the only papadeaux that has a salmon burger that comes with a Sriracha slaw, bacon , avocado and French fries! You won't regret ordering it.
google avatar

Shay B.

Yelp
Food was great as always. I ordered a Atlantic salmon Alexander and was so impressed. I was a little suspicious of the sauce and thought it would be nasty but it did not disappoint. It was a $40 well spent. It's located inside the airport and you have to walk to terminal E4. I walked around lost for a while looking for it and it was so worth it.

Leonard B.

Yelp
I know it's airport food, but horrible. I hope the main no -airport version is better. Po-boy, gumbo and burger. All horrible. Should have stuck with Panda Express.
google avatar

Ray K.

Yelp
When you have time in Houston airport find this restaurant. Excellent service and good food. Time to relax a bit in this busy airport. I got the Po Boys sandwich, well done and enough to fill you up. Open area and very clean seating area.
google avatar

Ashley V.

Yelp
They have a nice sit down restaurant on the second floor of the E terminal. Menu here is limited as they don't have things like pasta Mardi Gras nor do they serve complimentary bread. Pricey as usual. Our service from the bartender was fantastic! She was excellent and super attentive. Shrimp tasted super fishy and not at all fresh like I've had a pappadeaux's before.
google avatar

Charlie O.

Yelp
We were traveling through Houston after a few days on vacation and decided to eat here after asking several airport workers where to eat. Definitely good service and food. Crawfish was on point. Jambalaya was really tasty. Would definitely recommend it to fellow travelers.

Yelp
Pappadeaux is one of the restaurants I visit frequently. I've tried almost everything on the menu and I'm very rarely disappointed. Different locations have different options but I've rarely been dissatisfied, my favorite drink there is the swampthing and strawberry mangeaux tango, one usually does the job. Pretty much all of the drinks are well made and they even have a secret drink menu with more great options. Service was ok, it's always busy so sometimes you can get overlooked. Ambiance very casual, kid friendly especially during the day, pretty clean depending on location. Not a fan of the downtown location because unfortunately they have less options. I usually get the seafood Cobb salad & that's absolutely my favorite dish there. Very fulfilling and the dressing is amazing. Will be posting more pictures soon.
google avatar

Aldridge G.

Yelp
Excellent service, and the food was delicious. The shrimp gumbo with fondue was especially good.
google avatar

Dawn H.

Yelp
This restaurant is located by E4. Take the elevator or stairs to get to it. Nice relaxing atmosphere while waiting for your next flight. We were very surprised at the taste and portion of the food. We ordered the crawfish platter, and everything is definitely bigger in Texas! The kitchen divided this entree into two plates for us to share. We were stuffed and happy. This place is a definite gem comparing to the typical mediocre and overpriced airport foods. We'll definitely be back during our next layover.
google avatar

Jerry C.

Yelp
Probably the worst thing about Pappadeaux at IAH is finding it. Googling seems to think there are multiple locations at the airport. Apps including Yelp point to the restaurant being in the middle of the parking garage. Luckily we found it near our gate, in Terminal E, upstairs from Gate E3. Once inside, ambiance is typical Pappadeaux, enormous, but traditional and Southern homey. Our server was the best! She was super friendly and helpful with suggestions, like subbing dirty rice for white rice on my Crawfish Étouffée. There were plenty of mud bugs in the dish. With Tabasco sauce to increase the spice level, it was pretty tasty! I finished it all. My friends ordered burgers and were not impressed. "Nothing special." They didn't finish their burgers and fries. At over $30, Cajun entrees are sort of pricey for lunch; however airport food costs more, so just expect it to be higher than regular Pappadeaux chain locations.
google avatar

Rosie W.

Yelp
Their cheese, shrimp, crawfish and spinach dip is OUT OF THIS WORLD good. It's the kind of dish that makes you moan after each bite cuz each bite is so amazingly delicious. I really enjoyed their etoufee too, which I got with dirty rice, and it was bursting with flavor, but the DIP is the real MVP. Next time, I'll have a dip all to myself because I don't want to share :)
google avatar

David F.

Yelp
Hard to go wrong with this place, Chris Papas and his brothers just know how to put together a fine dining experience and I've never really had a complaint about any of their restaurants, including this one
google avatar

Yelp
Pricey, but...... BEST SALSA, EVER! Ceviche is GREAT. Friendly staff. Great location.
google avatar

Denise M.

Yelp
Outstanding service. Food was excellent. We were at the Original location in Houston, Texas.

Jada L.

Yelp
The food was pretty good. The service was the best though! Our server was well informed and nice and there was another lady that helped us when we had a question, loved her attitude!
google avatar

Raquel M.

Yelp
The place always looks dirty, but surely busy. The lobster is tasteless and overpriced. I like the gumbo and the salad. The dirty rice and shrimp are nothing special. Overall this place is overpriced and the seafood not fresh, but if you are a seafood lover - like myself - you might find some comfort visiting this restaurant from time to time - at least in Texas. This is a family environment, so be prepared to see old people, lathe families, and kids. The decor is obsolete and dark (again always looks dirty), service is nothing spectacular. Waiters also looks dirty. I have entente tired a dessert at this place that I liked. They look appetizing but taste "blah".
google avatar

Bill R.

Yelp
I was not expecting much from an airport restaurant. Matter of fact, I came in pissed off about a layover and exhausted from walking the concourse several times, so I was not in the mood to tolerate much. But service was fantastic - they brought water immediately since they could see how tired we were. Portions were huge - massive platters of seafood. I've certainly had better, but everything was quality and generously provided. The appetizer could have been a meal. Very impressed with this establishment.

Cooper S.

Yelp
Everything was delicious, our flight was in 6 hours so we are here and like always it was fantastic. Service, food, ambience, all excellent.
google avatar

Katy C.

Yelp
Flight got delayed, got a bit hungry stopped by to get a quick bite! Their calamari definitely on my top 3 now & their mock-tail as well very tasty! My server was Rebecca and she was very attentive & sweet! I will be coming again next time i'm in IAH!
google avatar

Tasha W.

Yelp
I had the crispy catfish beignets with a chop salad with fried crawfish tails. this is the best thing I've had during happy hr.
google avatar

Yelp
Nice place to eat while waiting on your departure flight. The food is plentiful and tasty. The restaurant is located in the international terminal.

Yelp
I always try to visit a Pappadeaux when I'm laying over in DFW so when I came to IAH and saw there was one here I had to try it. My husband and I were stuck at IAH for 6 hours so we had it for lunch. I had the gumbo, he had a salad, and we split the fried shrimp and chicken. The plate was huge and plenty to share. The fried fish was not too fried and the dipping sauces were good. The seafood gumbo was a smaller bowl but delicious. Nick was our server and was super attentive (even apologizing several times for the wait for a beer because the keg had to be changed). We walked all over the airport and ended up coming back for dinner because everything else seemed to be lacking service (order on a QR code, sit at a communal table). We sat at the bar and Marcus and Jana helped us. Again, very attentive, super friendly with all patrons. I had the salad and crab mac and cheese, my husband had the seafood pasta. Both were delicious and came out quickly. If you're at IAH, it's worth the walk over to E4!

Vasant H.

Yelp
I have had fraud charges on my credit card following its use for on-line order at Pappadeaux on Westheimer, Houston, Texas. This happened twice in the last three months; the latest just this morning after its yesterday. Be careful using your credit card at this location.
google avatar

Glenn H.

Yelp
Pappadeaux is probably the best restaurant in the Woodlands hands-down. The service is impeccable. The food is very consistent and very tasty. The fish is always fresh & salads are always crisp. The blackened fish is seasoned perfectly in the dirty rice is on spot. You can't go wrong with anything that has the brown butter on it. Your wife and I probably go here once every week or so. We've never had a bad experience.
google avatar

Jazmine W.

Yelp
Atmosphere was nice they have bomb drinks/bread and butter. I ordered the fried platter. It was okay, I was expecting more flavor/seasoning on the fish..... stuffed crab was flavorful. Our waitress Jazmine was awesome and I'm giving this restaurant an extra star because of her superior customer service.

Yelp
I've heard many wonderful things about Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen and I finally got to try it at Houston Airport. My flight was boarding in about half an hour so I was wondering what I could get. Of course being an airport restaurant, they're familiar with people rushing. I went the special takeout window which is located right next to the kitchen and the waiter made a few recommendations of what could be made in 10 minutes and what could be made in 20 minutes. I chose the chicken tenderloin and fried shrimp with french fries combination because he said it could be made in less than 10 minutes. Another waitress asked if I wanted ketchup or any sauces. I asked for ketchup and Tabasco sauce and they even included tartar sauce. I was pleasantly surprised when my order came out bagged and ready in only 7 minutes. Really great service!!!

Yelp
(From mid-September): Can't go wrong with Pappadeaux's. I had never been to IAH before and may have slightly underestimated the time it takes to get from the B gates (where my plane had just arrived and was soon to depart within the hour) and to the E gates, where Pappadeaux's was located. It was a maze for sure. I immediately went to the to go counter and was told it would take about 10-15 minutes for my crab mac n'cheese appetizer (I guess the girl taking the orders could tell I was in a bit of a time crunch). I wish my Pappadeaux's would sell this item regularly. I sat at the bar and watched the hustle and bustle of the kitchen. Sure enough, it was only about 10 minutes before the hot, ooey, gooey crab mac was loaded into a bag. I made it back to the B gates just as my plane was loading. I'm sure the other passengers were jealous as I pulled out the crab mac from my bag. It had lots of moist chunks of crab, plenty of cheese, and more than enough. Next time, hopefully I'll have more time to sit down, dine in, and enjoy a meal. 2022 #42

Yelp
The crawfish ettouffe was delivered and cooked perfectly, not overly salty, the roux wasn't bitter. The rice was fluffy and cooked well. Hubby had the burger which came highly recommended by our server. Service was fast and they asked about the timing of your departure flight to help the process along. All in all good experience.

Yelp
Food is always good 10/10 for chain seafood my favorite was the crab stuffed shrimp, jambalaya, and shrimp etoufee yummy when you don't feel like cooking seafood or taking a risk elsewhere they will never disappoint

Yelp
The service here was absolutely fantastic. My goodness, that southern hospitality do be hitting right. Alligator bites and espresso martini were also bussin.
