Where to Eat the Best Colombian Food in NYC - New York - The Infatuation

"A half-deflated Father’s Day balloon here, a Valentine’s Day teddy bear there: it’s love at first sight of the seasonally agnostic decor at this family-run restaurant in Sunnyside. But it’s their comforting, homey food that transforms this into a long-term relationship. The beef empanadas are amazing, with a rich, stewy filling, and the braised tongue in thick, fragrant creole sauce (only available on weekends) might be our favorite item on the menu. Get them with a side of crunchy yet moist tostones." - molly fitzpatrick, bryan kim

The Best Empanadas In NYC - New York - The Infatuation

"Bandeja tipica? Lengua en salsa? It's hard to choose when faced with the extensive menu of comforting, homestyle food at this family-run Colombian restaurant in Sunnyside, but we can tell you this: No matter what else you order, at least a few empanadas de carne need to be on your table. The filling is like a rich, deeply flavorful beef stew, and the corn wrapper is a great hybrid of crunchy and chewy." - will hartman, willa moore, molly fitzpatrick, monica prestia

Parador Caleño Review - Sunnyside - New York - The Infatuation

"If you arrive at Parador Caleño with a group, don’t sweat it. The owner of this excellent family-run Colombian restaurant in Sunnyside will be more than happy to push a couple of smaller tables together to accommodate you. “You’re at home,” he might say, waving away your attempts to thank him. You’ll soon notice that almost everyone in the restaurant is greeted with warm familiarity, and addressed as “princess” or “reina.” By the time the owner personally distributes a farewell Blow Pop to each member of your party, you’ll aspire to become a regular, too. photo credit: Kate Previte photo credit: Kate Previte photo credit: Kate Previte At Parador Caleño, you can play I Spy with a red-white-and-blue “Let Freedom Ring” banner, a Valentine’s Day teddy bear, a half-deflated Father’s Day helium balloon, and a Christmas elf figurine—all at the same time. If the decor is seasonally incoherent, it’s probably because Parador Caleño is busy paying close attention to the comforting, homey food. The empanadas are a must-order, but they’re only the beginning. From the moment your bandeja tipica arrives, topped with a beautifully jammy egg yolk, you’ll know you’re in for a treat. Food Rundown photo credit: Kate Previte Empanada De Carne Amazing. The filling is like a rich beef stew, and the corn wrapper is a great hybrid of crunchy and chewy. photo credit: Kate Previte Bandeja Tipica Everything on this platter is just about perfectly cooked, but the carne asada in particular is juicy and flavorful. Lengua En Salsa This lovely braised beef tongue is only available on weekends, so rearrange your calendar accordingly. It’s incredible, and even better with a side of crunchy yet moist tostones to dip in thick, fragrant, cumin-laced creole sauce. photo credit: Kate Previte Pargo Rojo Frito The fried red snapper is beautifully seasoned and beautifully cooked. There’s a crunch to the caramelized skin, but the flesh inside is moist and flaky. photo credit: Kate Previte Costillas Al BBQ This wouldn’t be our tippy-top choice for an entree here, but it’s nevertheless a great one: The pork ribs are juicy and tender." - Molly Fitzpatrick

Giant portions, good food and lovely service. Not much A/C 😅. Don’t skip the fruit shakes!

Ordered from the app “Too Good To Go”, an app that works to end food waste. As someone who can’t afford groceries all the time, I was looking forward to my order from here all day (and didn’t have much to eat either). When I went to go pick it up, I showed my order receipt and the man who i’m assuming is the owner started accusing me of bringing in a screenshot of an old order. I went through the entire app, showed the order date and went to my orders to show proof. He wouldn’t give me my food, I asked if I could just have my food and go and he started screaming at me. Luckily, I assuming it’s his family but two women came out to handle the situation. He left and they saw my receipt and order date, and packed up my food for me. They were telling me how they aren’t paid well and how they’ve lost money through the app, and I even offered to pay extra as someone who is a literally workplace rights organizer. The food was so yummy, chicken was flavorful. However I will not be coming back after that man made me feel so uncomfortable.

Google
One of the best restaurant in all NYC! The prices are very good for the amount of food per portion, very large and delicious flavors!!! Staff very nice and friendly!! Absolutely recommend!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻

Literally one of the best meals I have ever had in my entire life. I cannot talk enough about how excellent this place is. Luis is extremely kind, caring, and accommodating. The food is amazing. Every single ingredient is very fresh. The best jugo I have ever had, and the ground beef was nothing short of phenomenal. My Colombian fiancé says this food would be excellent anywhere in Colombia. We’re from Northern California, but we might have to move to Queens just to be closer to Parador Caleño. Gracias Luis

Ordered on TGTG... Everything tastes incredible. Soup is very hearty and filling. Everything is perfectly seasoned. Can't wait to go back and try the bandeja!

Google
I ate the mojarra frita and it was fresh and delicious, my wife ate meat soup with vegetables and guisado de carne de res, everything is good. Very traditional and I felt like eating in Colombia.

Google
I got to try their awesome food thanks to the app Too Good To Go. I got a soup and a second so pretty much a lunch from them and it was so good. As I was waiting for my food I peeped at the menu and I will be coming back cause the food on the menu looked really good. The staff was sweet but what do you expect with Colombians and they effortlessly use of words of endearment🥰 making you feel special and all you said was hi

Yelp
I love me a good bandeja paisa! This one was a mini platter and it was big for me haha. My friend also got so much food and we had to take some to go. I would definitely recommend and come back. The workers are so sweet and helpful. Love Colombia people!

Yelp
I pulled up near closing time and grabbed a couple things they had left. I can't say I was fully welcomed in my gringo skin. The food was real good though. The plantains in the Sancocho were a lil more brown than I'm used to but it was all good. No corn just plantain, potato, and a little meat in a tasty broth. The lenitil and potato stew/soup was awesome too. Chicken over rice was fine, the rice was perfect, the flavor was there, the chicken... was aight

Yelp
Great find lZ we had a bit of a wait but the food was well worth it. I tried the Milanesa and it was well cooked, tender, and crispy. The beet salad was well balanced and refreshing and the portion was very substantial! Doubled as dinner too!

Yelp
The food here is incredibly delicious and authentic. The owners are so sweet and friendly, they take pride in putting out quality food that tastes like a vacation in Cali. The empanadas are delicious as is the accompanying aji and the jugo de lull is fresh. I have so many dishes I still want to try, the menu is extensive. Native Colombians and anyone else would have a great time eating here.

Yelp
Let me tell you, the people who work here know what they are doing. First off, either the owner or manager calls me Reina every time I step in there and they are all just so kind. It has a very Colombian homey vibe, and the food is absolutely delicious. I've gone there a few times already but what truly steals the show are the empanadas for me, every time. They are sooooo freaking good, with a little soupy-potatoey ness inside, and healthy amount of meat. I love coming here!

Yelp
I been living in the neighborhood for 2 decades and I couldn't believe I never gotten food from here except for their buñuelos. The food from here is very authentic, homey and just plain delicious. This place isn't fancy any means and I probably wouldn't sit and eat here but great place for take out. They do have daily specials and I love that they have more than one soup per day since I'm a huge soup lover.

Yelp
A solid choice if you are hungry and looking for some comfort food! It's a no frills family restaurant with good food and welcoming staff. Portion sizes are very generous and we left pleasantly stuffed. We each had the lunch special which came with soup (we got a fish and a beef), a meat (we got a shredded beef and a ribs), and rice and beans. We also got the chorizo con arepa. To drink we had a mango and a berry "milk shake", which were very much fruit smoothies. It was good everyday food, which is just what we were looking for. We definitely didn't need the chorizo given how much food came with the lunch special. Everything that came in the lunch special and the chorizo itself were very good, but not mind blowing. If I had to come up with a complaint: The arepa was served on the side from the chorizo and was a bit dry. Overall, I don't think anyone would regret coming here for a casual and delicious meal!

Yelp
I was able to squeeze an order in before they closed and they happily took it. The food did not disappoint. Everything was well seasoned and tasted very fresh. I'll definitely have to come back and try more things. The bandeja paisa was one of the best ones I've had in a while.

Yelp
The food here is out of this world. From the outside you wouldn't think to come into this restaurant for dinner or lunch but if you do come in you would not be disappointed. The food portions are huge you'll have enough for 2 meals. if you're in the area stop in! the service was great, the ambiance is your typical Spanish warmth.

Yelp
The food here is always fresh and amazing! My family and order from here at least once a week. My personal favorite thing to order is the soup of the day, their lentil soup on Thursday is delicious!! Everyday they have different soups of the day so there's always something new to try! The owners are very kind and make you feel like you're part Of the family when you order. It's like having a little piece of Colombian in Sunnyside and makes my family and I feel a little less homesick!

Yelp
The food was great and decently priced. The staff was also really nice and attentive. We were all pleased with this place. I will definitely come back!

Yelp
Ordered the skirt steak and it came with side salad and rice and maduros. Food was fresh and very "casera" homemade. Def will be back!

Yelp
I thought this place was closed but I guess I was wrong? Their chicken soup is even better than my mother's. It comes with rice and pollo guisado on the side.. this soup really helps when I'm sick. Love it!

Yelp
The food here is indeed excellent, but we encountered a few things that left us a bit uncomfortable and wondering if we'd return to this place. The food, although very well cooked and seasoned, was in fact,a bit cold when it came out. Additionally we ordered water, but the gentleman came out with 2 water bottles - usually it's tap, which we requested so not sure why we weren't informed beforehand, but no complaints. At the end of the meal the gentleman came back around and gave us the check (we didn't request for it - but we were ok with it anyway). I have to say the gentleman serving us was rather pleasant and social, but a bit strange that he ended up overcharging us for our entrees.

Yelp
The best Colombian food in queens!!! I work near by and the delivery is fast, Food is always fresh and hot. Love this little spot!

Yelp
So ridiculously good...the soups are ALMOST too salty, but there's this smooth, comforting flavor that saturates the bowl. I've gotten the sancocho de gallina (hen soup / stew) that they serve with rice, hen and a single crispy toston. I've gotten it twice. Last year and this year. And it was super good. And it's super good now. There's way too much pausing and posturing in this review. PS The arepa with cheese is nice!

Yelp
Food is always on point. A family own restaurants which is great. Their soups are a must to try. Everyday it's a different soup which you know it's fresh. The fish with a side of rice and beans it's out of this world. I always order from here because the food is always fresh and the people are always nice. Support the locals!

Cd S.

Yelp
This place has the best Colombian food I have eaten outside of Colombia itself. The prices are a little high but the portions make up for it. You literally could feed 2 people with one entree. There is nothing special about the interior of the restaurant but it is always clean. The owner is very friendly and accommodating.
