Went for Sunday lunch.
This is a genuine fairy tale location (beware both Qype & our sat nav got it miles out) that has been trading as a restaurant for many many years. It is now under new management with Alan Murchison heading up and with very high aspirations.
There is a nicely priced menu with enough courses and variations to suit most, certainly well thought out, so you can be comfortable about how much it will cost.
The wine list has no real cheapies but there were several bottles under £40 that I would have happily drunk, though as I was driving we stuck to a good bottle of Alsace Gewurtz at £57.
Above the menu you have chosen you will also get an amuse bouche, in our case an excellent leek & potato soup. This was followed by a very beautiful looking Gravalax with beetroot, or ham hock terrine. Then on to belly of pork or cod. A stunning mini desert of rhubarb & custard, and a stewed?marinated mixed fruit desert. Followed with good nibbles.
The gravalax & pork was slightly over salted, but not to distress, the fruit pudding rather dull, but the rest was top class. Service was both friendly accommodating and very knowledgeable.
I shall certainly go again.
