The Best Ice Cream, Gelato, and Soft Serve in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"Like a number of hugely popular local ice cream kitchens, Parish Parlor was born during the pandemic, contributing to what has become one of the best handcrafted ice cream scenes imaginable. The LGD shop has become best known for its waffle cone varieties and ice cream flavors like bananas Foster, baklava, and king cake, but don’t miss the mint chip or lemon ricotta honey. Best of all, it’s open late — until 9 p.m. during the week and 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday." - Beth D’Addono

Google
This is the place to get ice cream in the Garden District. They have really interesting flavors and none disappoint. I got a small with the bananas foster and wedding cake, and both were really creamy and rich in flavor. The taste of that bananas foster will probably stay with me for life, highly recommend!

Google
So good!!! Homemade flavors. The mint chocolate chip and lavender London fog were a great pair in a double scoop cup, And the peach plus salted caramel were both so good too! The mint was so refreshing. They have designated gluten free and also vegan flavors. And they give samples to help you choose flavors. The location is so cute and inviting. The air was nice too! The man who helped us was kind and informative. I would definitely recommend! It was so delicious.

Google
Easy to miss on the little triangle where Magazine splits off toward Camp street, this cute gelato place has some great flavors and awesome waffle cones. There are a handful of small tables inside and out.

Google
Good fable selections, with good taste. I had the mint and the double chocolate. The mint was really fresh with real mint in it, highly recommended. The double chocolate was rich with pieces of chocolate in it, also recommend. The inside looks nice, unfortunately there is no indoor seating. They did give free samples but the workers didn’t seem happy to help or talk about the flavours.

Google
Hands down the best ice cream I've had in a very long time. There's a lot of different flavors; some traditional, some creative, but all very VERY tasty. Although I will say that I was a bit disappointed in the staff who seemed very annoyed to be there and acted like samples were a pain ... mind you we were buying five pints, not just teenagers swindling free ice cream. But it's tasty enough that I'll still recommend it to anyone and everyone. Some people have an off day and that's okay.

Google
Parish Parlor serves hands down some of the best ice cream I’ve ever had. As an ice cream connoisseur, I don’t rate lightly, but their flavors are incredibly rich, perfectly balanced, and undeniably high-quality. The texture is luxuriously creamy, and every bite bursts with authentic, well-crafted flavors. Their unique combinations and attention to detail set them apart from the rest. If you love ice cream as much as I do, this place is an absolute must-visit.

Google
I asked my 7 yr old son to write this review, because why not! ☺️ “It's perfect and it has big ice cream 🍨 it's fun, the cones🍦are huge, there are two types of cones: regular and gingerbread. I had vanilla ice cream and it was great. 😋 My mom had salted caramel and it looked great too”

Joseph Paul Haas

Google
Amazing flavors. You can’t go wrong with any of them but I especially liked the key lime pie and Cinnamon Toast Crunch.

Yelp
This has to be one of the most underrated ice cream parlors in New Orleans. I never hear anything about them, but their flavors are outstanding. I have been to this establishment six or seven times now, and every time I'm very happy with the quality. The place feels a little bit more high-end, so I would recommend this for adults going on a date, rather than bringing the whole family and expecting a lot of kid focused flavors and colors. It is a very small place with only about 4 to 5 tables, so I definitely recommend grabbing your ice cream and taking a walk down Magazine Street with it.
google avatar

Yelp
Such a cute ice cream spot on Magazine! All of their ice cream is hand made and they have unique flavors. The Cinnamon Toast Crunch was the best flavor in my opinion! The cookies and cream was good, but could've been better. The service was good as well. The prices are steep for ice cream, but being on Magazine street I understand. Creole creamery is still my favorite!

Kristin S.

Yelp
Delicious ice cream!! Able to sample before making a very hard decision. Friendly service. Cute, quiet area of town.

Yelp
A nice little surprise tucked away on Magazine St. nestled in blue and white it is a beacon in the summer heat. They usually have vinyl spinning and the staff has always been friendly. Note: they prefer cash but accept cards. Every flavor I have tried I have liked. They are a fresh ingredient shop. So no neon green mint chocolate chip here. It is light with a strong mint floral flavor studded with chocolate chips. Their seasonal flavors are good as well. But do yourself and your stomach a solid and only get the small single scoop. Your tummy will thank you later.

Yelp
I like Parish Parlor, I wouldn't say I love it. Ice cream is basic, service is decent depending on who is serving. The last few times I've been, the ice cream hadn't been the best. Ambiance is cool, located right on Magazine!
google avatar

Yelp
Such delicious flavors - love the honey lemon ricotta ice cream, so light and beautifully floral. Not a ton of seating inside, but still cute to eat in.
google avatar

Jana H.

Yelp
Delicious and creamy with some great unique, but also classic, flavors. Happily split a single/small scoop into two flavors and provides samples. Some of the best coconut I have ever had and the banoffee had great texture. Excellent stop! Would go again and highly recommend! Friendly staff.

Yelp
My fiancé and I had a hefty lunch around the area and decided to take a nice stroll on Magazine Street to walk off the calories. I found myself popping in and out of dessert storefronts, but the ones I visited didn't quite pique my interest. What got me hooked on Parish Parlor was the the fresh buttery smell of cones. There was one softspoken, friendly server at the time who greeted us. I tried a couple of flavors including the Cinnamon Toasted Crunch and Pecan Pie. Both were delicious but the funny thing was that I ended up getting the ice cream I didn't try, Bananas Fosters. That said, I knew I was going to get Bananas Foster the moment I set my eyes on the flavor. I'm a huge fan of banana flavored ice cream, so despite being biased I thought the Bananas foster was outstanding. The banana flavor was prominent, and the texture of the ice cream was so smooth. Only negative was that I found it to be overly sweet. I could eat a scoop of ice cream easily, but I couldn't finish half of the single scoop since it was that sweet.

Yelp
Parish Parlor is a small-batch ice cream parlor which specializes in classic French-style ice cream and seasonal sorbets along with offering Vegan and alternative milk-based options. Parish Parlor is located in the New Orleans Lower Garden District about 8 minutes and 2 miles away from the French Quarter at 1912 Magazine Street which is one of the busiest commercial arteries in the area. I was pleasantly surprised at how flavorful and dense the ice cream here was. This is some of the best ice cream in the New Orleans area although it does come at a bit of a premium. They have a very interesting selection of flavors and unlike some other area ice cream and gelato joints their ice cream has very deep and intense flavors. Overall if you love full flavored ice cream that is a pleasure to eat then you should make a visit to Parish Parlor. My video review of Parish Parlor Ice Cream is here: youtu.be/_WjdFM6IGCw

Yelp
HIGHLIGHT of my day. decided,I'm gonna treat myself to this amazingly crafted ice cream during my night shift job and saved half of it for my day shift job, Threw it in the freezer and enjoying it the next day and it taste exactly the same, Simply amazing great people ,great ice cream. Love the hand packed pints! #support small businesses My fave flavors: "the Salted caramel" was my favorite for a while! but sadly they won me over with a new flavor called "Expresso brownie " it's THE BOMB DOT COM

Yelp
I really liked this ice cream ship. There are plenty of flavors to choose from and the ice cream is super decadent and creamy. It was a great way to end a busy day for us.
google avatar

Yelp
Very cute spot, with interesting flavors! The lemon ricotta was divine. Loved this little ice cream spot.
google avatar

Yelp
If you want something done right, do it yourself. The owner of this ice cream shop did not miss the mark. Each flavor is hand crafted to perfection. Pick a flavor, any flavor and you won't be disappointed. Can't wait to come back & visit!!

Yelp
Had the mud pie vegan ice cream. It was good. Small place and some good choices. Would like to do the espresso next time with some chocolate coffee beans. Hopefully they will get a vegan vanilla to go with it to make an affogato.

Yelp
Wow, just wow. I am so impressed by the flavors. I absolutely loved it. Wedding cake - cake bits and almond flavored ice cream Lavender London fog - subtle lavender that isn't overwhelming Together, the provided a perfect blend.

Lily H.

Yelp
I always look for ice cream shops where the dairy-free/vegan flavors aren't just sorbet. They had vegan mud pie and vegan Irish coffee flavors when I went. I got the vegan mud pie two days in a row while visiting Nola and it was amazing. I do not like coconut-based flavored ice creams because I find they almost always just end up tasting like coconut which I don't like. This mud pie ice cream, however, did not taste like coconut at all. It was amazingly creamy unlike other vegan ice creams I've had. There was a chocolate swirl in it that almost melted slightly faster than the rest of the ice cream in a way that made it like fudge drizzle over the top. It was so good. I got it with pecans on top and it tasted like a turtle sundae. I appreciate this place carrying a solid dairy free flavor consistently available. They also had vegan Irish chocolate which had a good flavor but was slightly icy when I sampled it.

Yelp
The Banana Brown Butter Cookie Dough definitely ranks as one of the top ice creams I have had. It is a cool, quaint place off of Magazine. If the customer service was better, I definitely would give this place 5 stars.

Pete M.

Yelp
Freshest mint chocolate chip ice cream I've ever tasted. Hands down, slap-me-silly good Enjoyed the sit and relax vibe. Selection of ice cream was very tempting and the hospitality was superb. I went for a walk from my hotel on St. Charles and found the Parish Parlor on Yelp: another great find and recommendation from the Yelp Community!! Very reasonable pricing, IMO. Worth every penny! I had a large milkshake and it was delicious. My only wish is for a Parish Parlor closer to home.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious ice cream, hand made and you can taste the difference. The flavors are unique; even the standards (vanilla, chocolate and n strawberry) have a gourmet spin on them. Our family ate here three times over the course of a six day trip. We loved the three classics, the brown butter cookie dough (super gooey) and the cookies and cream (super rich). The mint chocolate chip is made with spearmint which may not be for everyone but my hubby loved it. We will definitely be back if we are ever in town again!

Yelp
This place was adorable, one of our favorite outings for ice cream ever. After driving to see some cool decorated homes for Mardi gras we stopped by here and my son was insanely happy. Service was great.
google avatar

Whitney A.

Yelp
This is a place you definitely want to visit! I'm typically a creole creamery place but I love the flavors here and I'm usually a traditional (vanilla, butter pecan) ice cream gal. Try the espresso ice cream, it was def a fav for me. I also like the different toppings and that they have pecans rather than chopped peanuts. Service was friendly and patient as my son wanted to try almost all the flavors. We took our order to go but there was a little table for sitting in the front. This is also a nice place to grab a treat and stroll down magazine. And they have Apple Pay!

Madaline M.

Yelp
BEST ICE CREAM. Hand made, small batch, insane flavors. Mason is an ice cream scientist and his creations can't be topped! We try to find better in other cities - no one compares. Carmel corn in the fall, wedding cake in the spring! Service is always kind and knowledgeable. The jazz music and gold create a cozy ambiance. As a fan of Salt & Straw and high quality ice cream, Parish is #1 on the list. Especially over Creole Creamery.
google avatar

Reagan P.

Yelp
This place was such a delight! The ice-cream was delicious and I loved the overall vibe in the mid place. We were able to try the ice cream and my favorite was definitely the espresso brownie flavor.
google avatar

David K.

Yelp
"Two pounds of mint for three gallons of ice cream!" I don't often leave reviews for ice cream places, but a shoutout to the Mint Chocolate ice cream at Parish Parlor, which has an intense natural mint flavor (from real mint leaves) unlike any other mint chocolate ice cream I've had before! The creamy minty base was complemented by little crunchy morsels of chocolate, which rounded out the flavor and texture of the ice cream. I got this on a gingerbread waffle cone, a special December flavor, which had just the right crunch and sweetness! The server here was also super friendly and offered us plenty of samples of their homemade concoctions.

Yelp
We hiked to Fat Boys on Magazine Street and they were closed on a Tuesday (sigh Yelp...the times listed on their page are incorrect) and so we Yelped and found if we hiked some more we would run into another ice cream place and that was Parish Parlor and luckily, their website is correct in the "hours" department and we found them to be open a Tuesday! And to boot, the ice cream was amazeballs!!! We tried strawberry, lemon, and lavender flavors and my friend declared it the best ice cream she had ever eaten. I too delighted in my scoop. It was very good and perfect in this heat.
google avatar

Darriane J.

Yelp
I stopped here for a quick dessert after searching for something sweet in the area! They offer unique flavors which captured my attention! The service was good! I did sample Lavender London Fog & it was delicious! I ultimately decided on the classic Cookies & Cream which was good as well! I can't wait to stop by & try the seasonal Egg Nog!
google avatar

Yelp
Just discovered this place over the weekend. Love it. It's hard not to compare this place to Creole Creamery, so I will compare them. I like Parish Parlor slightly more. I rarely pick a flavor this is not chocolate but the espresso brownie was too hard to pass up. And for me, what clearly puts Parish over the top and into the #1 slot is their waffle cones. So good. The whole place smelled like fresh waffles. Quite good. Cannot wait to repeat this spot. Loved it.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious ice cream! Wish we'd visited more ice cream shops during our trip. We had the brown butter cookie dough and it was delicious. The woman serving us wasn't friendly, but she gave us a couple of samples before we decided. We would come back here!
google avatar

Trago W.

Yelp
So many yummy flavors of ice cream. We settled on the toasted coconut and the espresso brownie. Amazing. They were cooking up batches of different flavors while we were there which was cool to watch.

Michael N.

Yelp
The ice cream is so delicious but a little unique in terms of texture, it might throw you for a loop if your not used to it but in a good way! The ambiance is so pretty and feels like your eating in a european hotel lobby. So worth it.
google avatar

Rachel T.

Yelp
Creamy and light, with a bunch of unique freshly made flavors! The staff is super friendly and helpful in deciding flavor choices. Since there are so many good ones we legit tasted almost all of them and took about 10 minutes to decide, and she stuck with us and patiently waiting for us to land on the perfect flavors. Great recommendations! Definitely worth a visit if your in the area!!
google avatar

Ellery D.

Yelp
Their non-dairy ice cream actually tastes like real ice cream and the texture is spot on too! I tried the peanutbutter mud pie flavor and I would not have been able to tell the difference between this and dairy ice cream. Remindwd me of old school Ben and Jerry's. Absolutely delicious and a must-try. The other flavors were both sorbets--hurricane and hot springs. I was allowed to try them all but selected the one I did because it was the sweetest. The prices are a tad high for the size you get, but this was so good I will nonetheless be back... probably often since it's so close to home!
google avatar

Yelp
The new ice cream place on the block offered some appealing-looking flavors, as well as seating either indoors or outdoors on a small back patio. The fresh mint and the bananas foster that I sampled were good. They did have some vegan options. Still, compared to the absolute best New Orleans frozen dessert places, I didn't get as personable of a welcome, the portion of ice cream for the money was not that great, and the flavor didn't jump quite as much. What can I say? The bar is high. Wish them well, but I'll stick with my favorites for now.

Ana R.

Yelp
Best Ice cream you'll ever have. If you love sweets this is the place to go to. If any one says other wise they don't like sweets sorry not sorry. Owners are sweet and take pride in their ice cream. Definitely bring your friends and family here if you want great quality ice cream. There is also a small courtyard and indoor seating.
google avatar

Karen B.

Yelp
Parish Parlor is a cute new ice cream shop on Magazine! There is outdoor patio seating in the back, and a few tables out front. Staff is super welcoming and friendly, offering as many samples as you need to make your choice. I had the Lavendar Fog and Mint Chocolate -- they let you split the flavors for single scoop! The flavors were strong, which I loved, and the ice cream felt very light, though was a little on the icy side -- that's probably because of the nature of the flavors I picked though. Their Mint Chocolate is probably one of my favorites because the mint flavor tastes fresh, not artificial. The Lavendar Fog had a potent earl grey flavor, and is vegan with a coconut milk base. I'd probably pick a creamier flavor next time -- like their coffee flavor, made with Mojo coffee. For all you fall lovers, there's a pumpkin spice waffle cone. They have other interesting flavor combos so I can't wait to come back to try more!
google avatar

Meagan A.

Yelp
Cute ice cream parlor with trendy decor and unique flavors. The ice cream taste delicious. I tried the seasonal flavor "chai" and it was tasty and not overpowering. I saw they have a Mojo Roasters Coffee flavor that is next on my list to try. They are dog friendly and offer puppuccino. They have outdoor seating right on Magazine to sit and enjoy the ice cream.
google avatar

Nandi A.

Yelp
Really cute ice cream parlor with super fresh flavors. The tiramisu was quite tasty, while it did get sort of cakey at the end of the scoop I still enjoyed my ice cream and will definitely return.
google avatar

Brandon L.

Yelp
Amazing ice cream and great staff!! Toasted coconut with ganache is outstanding!! And the malts are fire!

Lance M.

Yelp
Best ice cream HANDS DOWN! No other ice cream place matches the creativity. The smell of fresh waffle cones being made as you walk in. No other place in competes, I promise.
google avatar

Camly T.

Yelp
I'm happy a new ice cream place has popped up in this area. This location is near many other restaurants so it will be good to swing by after dinner or lunch. They have a good selection of unique and expected ice cream flavors. The service was great and let you sample flavors as well. Currently there is no indoor seating, but there was a table and chairs outside to enjoy the ice cream plus there is a little green space across the street where you can sit as well. Although I liked my ice cream, I did think $4 was pricey for a single scoop for the size it was. That being said, I will still probably come by when I get that ice cream itch.
google avatar

Jared S.

Yelp
Delicious ice cream. Do yourself a favor and support this small local business on my favorite street in downtown NOLA.

Darla N.

Yelp
I love all of their unique flavors. I had the peppermint bark and Mexican hot cocoa as a single scoop but it looked like I really got two scoops! It's so good, I definitely recommend. It will satisfy all of your ice cream/sweet tooth cravings. I might have to come back to try their gingerbread waffle cone. Only thing is that my friend ordered a pour over coffee and she said it wasn't good and it was too watery. Service was nice tho and I love the ambiance. It's usually quiet and not too busy when I go. I also love that it's on magazine so I can walk around or sit by the nearby park with my ice cream.
google avatar

Greg M.

Yelp
I feel like I'm cheating on Creole Creamery by trying Parish Parlor, but in my defense it is a little closer to home and everyone keeps talking about how damned good it is. After one visit, I have to agree! Needed a pint of vanilla to go with tonight's dessert, so decided it was time to give this new spot a try. Spotlessly clean shop. Friendly staff who offered to let me sample the various unique flavors. You can taste the small-batch quality in every delicious bite. Lemon ricotta honey and espresso brownie were my favorites, so let's just say that the pint of vanilla bean isn't lonely in my freezer. I can see that parking may be an issue, but a nice long walk is exactly what you'll need to burn off a few calories! And if you don't feel like driving and/or walking, they'll deliver pretty much anywhere in the city.
google avatar

Paul C.

Yelp
Cool little ice cream parlor! The gals that server you at the counter are very polite, service was quick. Only wish was more selections. Go grab a treat! Right on Magazine makes it convenient, and even a couple of outdoor seats
google avatar

Hassan S.

Yelp
Good fable selections, with good taste. I had the mint and the double chocolate. The mint was really fresh with real mint in it, highly recommended. The double chocolate was rich with pieces of chocolate in it, also recommend. The inside looks nice, with a refreshing vibe, unfortunately there is no indoor seating. They did give free samples but the workers didn't seem happy to help or talk about the flavours.

Yelp
Great ice cream flavors with quality ingredients and the first place I've ever truly enjoyed a waffle cone, especially the gingerbread one. You can tell they they are dedicated to their craft
google avatar

Katie C.

Yelp
Not going to lie, I was hesitant to try this place since Creole Creamery is an obsession of mine (yes I am a weekly regular), but Parish Parlor impressed. Its in an accessible, convenient spot on Magazine st. with a variety of fun flavorful options. My friend had ordered for us and I was half way through the peanut butter mud pie ice cream when she told me it was vegan. For an ice cream enthusiast I had no idea, it was a delicious sweet treat to finish off the night! Inside the restaurant was beautifully decorated with hip decor (hanging plants, exposed brick) and all very clean seating/tables. Great location to walk to and for an after dinner treat, it is on the pricier side ($8 for two single scoops) but worth it to support a local business :) *can sit inside & outside
google avatar

Robin L.

Yelp
It's the best ice cream in the city. It may be the best ice cream in the country. I don't know how they do it. It's a black box. Something or other is going in, and magic is coming out. Just come. And bring your friends. And then come back again and again so this place stays open.
google avatar

Aldwin A.

Yelp
I had a single scoop of the banoffee pie ice cream in a brown sugar cinnamon waffle cone. I was disappointed at first because I couldn't taste any flavor but then the subtle flavor came through then peaking towards the bottom of the cone. This might be polarizing for individuals who prefer a strong flavor at first lick. Also it's more watery/icy than creamy. Free gender neutral bathroom for non-customers in the courtyard.
