Caroline Styne Wins LA’s Only James Beard Award - Eater LA

"In what is now becoming an annual tradition, Los Angeles was once again largely shut out from the winner’s circle at the James Beard Foundation Awards in Chicago last night. The lone local bright spot for the evening was Caroline Styne, who rightfully took home the vaunted Outstanding Restaurateur award for her years-long run at places like Lucques, a.o.c., The Larder, and Tavern." - Farley Elliott

The wings are amazing the owner came made sure. I’m well taken care off! Margherita pizza thin crust was also good! The lil Italian waitress is worth the trip

I enjoyed the sunny burger. It was surprisingly good. Unlike most burgers, it wasn't heavy and a joy to eat. The right balance of meat, bread, and toppings. The seasoned fires had a hint of sugar, which I normally don't care for, but it wasn't overly sweet. All in All, a great meal for the price. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. The atmosphere was comfortable, with the music not being so overwhelming that you can't enjoy your company and meal like some other places. I would definitely come here again.

Stopped here before the Jellyroll concert at the United Center. The staff was absolutely amazing. The food was off the charts. The Baja tacos were perfect. My daughter loved her chicken strips. My wife's pizza was fabulous. They also had a great selection of drinks. I'd give it 10 stars if I could.

We've been here a few times for Happy Hour, and it never disappoints. This was the first time we ordered the pizza, and it was delicious! Marie is a fantastic bartender and provided top-notch service!

Park Tavern on Jackson Blvd is a wonderful restaurant and bar in the city! The food selection is absolutely wonderful, with daily lunch specials that delight every palate. One standout is their Thursday $8 specialty burger, a deal that's hard to resist. As soon as the lunch specials end, the happy hour deals kick in, making it a perfect spot for an after-work unwind. The drink selection here is phenomenal. With a very large central bar and additional side bars, there’s no shortage of options or space to enjoy your favorite drinks. The seating arrangements are just as impressive, making Park Tavern ideal for lunch, dinner, or hosting events, thanks to their multiple event spaces. The outdoor space adds another layer of charm to Park Tavern. Equipped with another bar, it's a fantastic area to enjoy the weather, play some bags, and simply chill out. When it comes to food, everything I've tried has been wonderful. The animal tots, footlong grilled cheese, calamari, club sandwich, and meatball sub are all highly recommended. For those looking for healthier options, their salads are exceptional and can be customized with a variety of proteins. Special perks at Park Tavern include $6 valet service on certain days and a convenient shuttle to the United Center on game nights, making it a breeze to enjoy a night out without worrying about parking or transportation. Overall, Park Tavern is an excellent bar and offers an incredibly enjoyable experience. I can't wait to get pictures of my food next time – I was just too hungry to wait this time around!

When i first walked in, I was blown away. The atmosphere was very cozy and comfortable. I love the hard oakwood tables and chairs. The staff members are amazing and professional. Wait til you see the outdoor patio it is stunning and amazing. I ordered the Caesars chicken wrap, which it comes with French fries. I was full after two bites. The food and drinks are excellent to perfection. There's a parking garage across the street that is very affordable. Great location and safe indoor or outdoor. I highly recommend this place. This place is great for hosting special events, such as weddings, birthday parties, and conventions.

Google
Thanks to the bar staff for good service. Today we attended a fun party for our pug Robi ! His friends and cute girls, girlfriends, were at the party. #pug #fallchicagopugparty#pugs#pugchicago#pugs 😀 Revolution beer is the best! I drank a great glass and ate a delicious hamburger with fries! It was delicious!

Yelp
The food? Absolutely delicious. The service? Warm and inviting. This place has all the charm of a great neighborhood bar, with just the right mix of cozy and lively. The clean, rustic vibes make it feel like a modern tavern, complete with light fixtures that give off a soft, inviting glow. As I sipped my perfectly crafted margarita (shoutout to the friendly bartender!), I couldn't help but notice the mix of people--some working away on laptops at the bar, others caught up in friendly conversations. It all felt natural, easy, and relaxed, with low country music setting the mood in the background. This spot definitely has that "come back again" energy. I'm already planning my next visit! Side note the second server who took over was a bit slow on the draw. Was seeing that a couple of people felt a bit neglected including myself

Yelp
It's quite rare I'd be out this direction. But Park Tavern is worth the food if you're wanting a place to sit, drink, and watch! Atmosphere is a given. This place has great ceiling room, amazing lighting, and clean restrooms. It's near United Center, so if you're attending a concert, this is your place! Service was amazing. Kind, very generous people in here. The food was outstanding, and came in larger portions than expected. I wish it was closer to the Millennium area, but I'll be here again!

Yelp
We had a group in a party room before a hockey game at the United arena. Our food on the buffet was absolutely fabulous loved the mac and cheese and the steak and the brisket was great. Our tables were kept clean and the bartenders were more than adequate. Thanks for a wonderful experience

Yelp
big portions, variety of drinks, and good service. Free Bus to united center for events.

Yelp
Never again!! This place charged me 23% gratuity on 2 drinks from the bar!! To actually hand me 2 drinks and charge this is crazy! No food just drinks this is robbery. I will never patronize this place again.

Yelp
Throwback to restaurant week at Park Tavern! Can't wait to go and explore again this year and this is your reminder to not forget!!:)) Park tavern had some yummy choices honestly! We always mix and match food so we can try it all, very yummy we've never ate there before this meal!:) the service and ambiance were wonderful and so sad to see this place go!

Yelp
I enjoyed dining here at Park Tavern before going to the Bulls game. I got the shrimp tacos with fries and a blue raspberry lemonade. The ladies bathroom was flooded so patrons had to use the men's room if needed. I got there before my group and the waitress was very attentive but once my party arrived it seemed like our service slowed. Once we finished eating we waited extra while for the check e our server was in the restroom on the phone

Halle W.

Yelp
Absolutely loved it here! They put us in such a comfy booth, replaced my drink that I didn't enjoy free of charge, the food was amazing, and the service was great! Will definitely come again when back in town. Such a nice place to warm up in the winter for sure.

Yelp
One of my favorite bars in Chicago. Very spacious and like a midway meet up place. Always a joy to be here. Will definitely be back

Yelp
I used to always drive by this place in the summer and their outdoor area would be PACKED, no matter the time of day. So of course my partner and I decide to finally try it on one of the coldest days Chicago has every had The cold didn't stop other Chicagoans either, there was Blackhawks game on after all! We were there pretty early around 5:30 PM which falls within their Friday. Happy hour, unfortunately, because the Hawks game was at home they were not honoring happy hour prices. But the deals look really good and will definitely be back to take advantage of happy hour pricing. Given how busy they were, I don't fault the waitress too much for being a bit slow to take our order and check in on us and refill our water. The food came out in a good amount of time, and it was spaced out well for all the Shareables that we ordered. The pizza was divine. We got the pepperoni & pepperoncini pizza, cheese curds, fries and cocktails. The food was surprisingly delicious. One of my favorite slices of pizza I've had in Chicago (I got thin crust). The drinks were ok. Tasted like a cocktail that came out of a premixed batch, I could've done without it. I'm looking forward to giving this place another try!

Yelp
Quite loud. Food good. Bar service a bit lax. Would consider going back for a better review.

Yelp
I went for a day party it was cool I didn't drink or eat but the place is spread out I'm not sure where the free parking was ...

Yelp
Ask for a frosty mug or else you won't get one ! Don't recommend the Paloma it was so sour& tart. Beer is probably the way to go. Deviled eggs were delish. My salad was good but I ordered the steak medium & it was singed to well done or worse. It was inedible. My dad liked his pulled chicken sandwich. Fries were good. We got 2 tequila shots before the game & they were poured tall ! Cheers ! Great place to come before a Hawks game and the bus to the stadium is perfect !

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick beer during a very off-peak hour. Only 10-12 customers overall. The first beer ordered was completely undrinkable as a sour vinegar taste overpowered its normal flavor. The bartender exchanged it with no question for another draft selection which was less severe but still had a similar taste. This restaurant needs to focus on keeping their draft lines properly cleaned. The poor taste is almost always a result of not maintaining their draft service lines. Especially disappointing due to the large craft beer selection they make available. I paid for half of the second beer and went on my way, not before waiting 10+ minutes as the staff talked amongst themselves about upcoming events and other items. This isn't great service during a quiet period and I can't imagine it improves when busy.

Yelp
The seating was comfortable, there were multiple bars which made it a great place for sports days. We walked in (with reservations) and were sat right away. The hostess (who was also the waitress) was the only one working for the dinner crowd in the whole place and still we had prompt check ins and the wait times were manageable, she did great with a packed restaurant! Food and drinks were awesome! I'd totally recommend and will go back again when in the area!

Yelp
Pizza was good but at 7pm all other menu items were not available due to an event going on at the united center. I know business may be slow due to the event but either be open or not

Yelp
If you are going to an event at the United Center - this is the place to go to grab pre-event dinner and drinks! 10/10 would recommend. We thought we wouldn't be able to get a table before a weekday Chicago Bulls game but, we were (thankfully) wrong. We were seated immediately at a lovely booth. One side of the restaurant that had a large bar was not in-use. The other bar space was open and had bar seating available. The crowd was not boisterous or obnoxious which I appreciated. Serve was very fast and friendly. They were hustling! The cheese curds hit the spot although the cheese pull wasn't a nice long pull like in Wisconsin ;) The salad was huge and I wasn't able to finish it. My Fiancé ordered a hamburger with fries and also wasn't able to finish the meal which is very unlike us. We are always in the clean plate club. While dining we noticed a shuttle bus pull up to the front of the tavern. We asked our server what that was all about. Turns out, tavern patrons are able to take the complimentary shuttle to and from the United Center! The shuttle runs every few mins to and from the stadium. This was a very pleasant surprise especially because we planned to walk to the stadium and the forecast was calling for rain. We had zero issues with the driver remembering us when we grabbed the shuttle after the game. While this service is free, tips are appreciated.

Yelp
Neat little pub, drinks were okay, but not outstanding, and they only had three of the Scotches on what was at least a 10 Scotch menu. Service was pretty good. Ultimately, it was the food that was the letdown. Calamari had good flavor, but was kind of mushy, certainly not crispy. I had the Italian beef which was good but a bit skimpy on beef. My wife had the gluten free pizza, which was also not bad, but our friends' pizza was overcooked to the point of being inedible. Not burnt, but baked dry to, as if it had been sitting in a warming oven for 20 minutes.

Yelp
Park Tavern I was in your establishment Saturday afternoon for a birthday party your employees could use some corrective coaching as well as etiquette training the tall stringy greasy haired blonde female ( not lady) was very rude & bothered all because she didn't know what a easy living cocktail was which lets me know she learned how to bartend off a street corner!!!! She looked a mess as if she did the walk of shame into the place ( stayed out all night & just jumping up & came to work) her breast were sagging in her halter top & her mid section was showing signs of giving birth to children ( saggy belly hanging outside of her jeans) The guy taking receipt for food by the kitchen was rude & sassy!!!!!! PPL OF THE SUN WHY DO WE KEEP SPENDING OUR MONEY IN THESE ESTABLISHMENTS WHO CLEARLY DO NOT WANT US THERE!!! #yalljustaintgonlearn PARK TAVERN CLEAN UP YOUR STAFF THEY ARE A MESS ON APPEARANCE & ATTITUDE!!!!!!

Megi M.

Yelp
Horrible service, the bartender was very rude. He told us he would lock the door when we were on the patio. Very unprofessional, the whole time we were there it seemed like he didn't even want to serve us. We are nurses and wanted to come after work to grab a drink. Wouldn't come back with the service given by the bartender. Oh and by the way we saw a rat running on the patio and it went underneath the patio bar. Disgusting! Not worth coming here, bad service and rats, there are better bars around.

Yelp
It was my first time here. We came on a Tuesday for the Bull's game. I brought my husband and some friends out. We all really had a great time. Ashley was our waitress she was great. The food was delicious and the place was amazing. Two of my friends were celebrating their birthday and Ashley remembered to bring them desert, it was great. We will definitely be back and they also have a shuttle bus that will take you right to the United center for the game. Thank you Ashley

Yelp
Perfect place before heading to United Center. Solid food, full bar. Discounted parking across the street and free shuttle to/from UC.

Yelp
I hadn't been to Park Tavern in years and sadly, it turns out the food is still underwhelming. I stopped in one evening before a Blackhawks game with a group of friends. We chose the restaurant because it was close to the UC and because they offer a free shuttle to the stadium. We got there fairly early (around 4:30) and the parking garage across the street was already closed. When I called the restaurant prior to our visit an employee had said the parking garage would be open until 5:00pm. He said you were good as long as you go there before that time. He also said it'd be about $6 to park. Well, it turns out the garage closes at 3pm or so on weekends. That sucked, but there was plenty of street parking in front of the restaurant so we lucked out. There were five people in my party. We ordered the pretzel sticks as an appetizer which was pretty good. It's kinda hard to screw up pretzels though. My sister ordered the chicken tenders and a couple of my friends got burgers. Another friend decided on the chicken caesar wrap which sounded like a good idea to me so I ordered that as well. I didn't like the wrap so I barely touched it. The dressing tasted weird and it was mostly just a tortilla shell filled with lettuce. The chicken bites were sparse and so small you could barely taste them. Later that night I was glad I'd only eaten a small amount of the wrap because I ended up getting sick. My friend liked the wrap though so take that for what's it's worth. My sis thought the chicken tenders were good and everyone liked the burgers too. Maybe I just happened to order the wrong thing?? Who knows... My friends got shots and a few years, but we didn't order any cocktails. I don't recall the waitresses name, but she was pleasant and attentive. We liked her a lot. I tipped her so generously that my credit card company called me to ensure that there hadn't been an error. lol She was cool so I wanted to reflect that with the tip. The atmosphere was chill and casual which was nice. Because of that and the great customer service I'd visit Park Tavern again despite not liking the wrap.

Yelp
An okay place to hit up for a pre-game close to the United Center. Our group had an event to attend nearby, and while the service started out okay, it quickly devolved into other tables' appetizers continually being brought by the kitchen to our table, and one of our two pizzas was just plain cheese (instead of a pizza with toppings that we ordered). The craft beer list is pretty good, the place is pretty big, an adequate option near the UC with a little hesitation.
google avatar

Sid G.

Yelp
We all really enjoyed Park Tavern. Our waiter busted his butt considering he was waiting on so many other tables. A couple in our party ordered salads they really enjoyed, 3 others has the shrimp tacos, I had the Mexibano.....including myself, everyone enjoyed their dinners and service. Wine/cocktails/beer list is pretty extensive. So why not 5 stars? The music was incredibly loud but they did turn it down upon request. Really like how close PT is to the UC and the complimentary shuttle is a nice touch....don't forget to tip the driver! \o/
google avatar

Yelp
Food and drinks are fine. Service is awful. I spent 45 mins trying to flag down my bartender when there was maybe 10 people in the whole space for a second beer despite sitting at the bar. They actively avoided eye contact and it took me (as politely I can) shouting, "can I close out please?" for someone to come over. Fearful that I would be there till the new year by the time I got another drink, I just paid and left. Won't be back anytime soon. :(
google avatar

Reggie H.

Yelp
No No No! My Union hall is next door, I've come here on Thursdays after union meeting. The menu and drinks prices are different.... Then when I came yesterday for a Day party. 22% gratuity is added to everyone no matter you wait 30 mins for a drink that costs 6$ after a union meeting. 12$ now. Never......again.

Olivia D.

Yelp
Amazing service at the bar before our show at the United Center. The owner is very friendly and let me DJ the artist before the concert :) comfortable, convenient and great atmosphere (along with incredible drinks and food) 10/10 recommend
google avatar

Yelp
Portions | Descriptive | Variety | Pregame Portions: the size of each meal was inconsistent between orders. The wings were large and numerous however at a higher price point the shrimp were not big enough to share or substitute as a full meal. Descriptive: the dishes were expertly described as each one tasted as advertised. The shrimp had a creole spice, the buffalo chicken sandwich had a bit of a kick to it, and the wings were tender and Smokey with their house made BBQ sauce. The brussel sprouts were definitely flash fried... and tasted oily. Variety: the menu was a good mix of classic bar foods and Cajun flares. Lots of choices for a large filling sandwich or a plate of Mac and cheese! Pregame: not a lot of options inside the United Center so if you're looking for a place to get good food and catch some games before the main event this is the one to try. Pro tip: they have a happy hour menu for food and drinks that changes each day Pro tip: before the game they have a lot of reserved tables so call ahead to make a reservation to get a seat or be okay to sit at the bar Why did it lose one star?: service wasn't the greatest, and our table location could not see a tv to watch the games.

Yelp
The food where was incredible. We got cheese curds, and they were the best I've ever had. The fries were also some of the best I've ever had! My hummus wrap was pretty tasty! They have pretty good happy hour and daily specials too! The patio was really big and nice! They even had a grassy area for cornhole! Our waiter was very nice as well. Now for the negatives- It took a very long time for someone to even start waiting on our table and then a long time to order our food. And some of our dishes were dirty :/

James L.

Yelp
We decided to try this place as it was close to the United center where the Blackhawks were playing their first game of the preseason. The staff was very friendly and engaged, and advised us on parking and shuttle services to the game. Burgers and pizza that we had were good and we would rate our experience overall above average.
google avatar

Sade J.

Yelp
I've only been after work during happy hour. Friday's they have a $5 special which includes beer, cocktails and a wine. Happy hour is from 4-6pm. I had 2 jack and cokes and babe had a jack and ginger ale and a beer, $5 each. Bartenders are super cool. Every time I've came here it was basically to Have drinks at the bar, we always order wings. This time we ordered mango wings and fries. Nice portion size but their wings are always hard. Not my thing at all. I'm also interested in trying new items on the menu. I'd definitely come back when I'm in the area.

Roya J.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, service & Chicago style pizza ! We rally enjoyed stoping in before a Bulls game.

Yelp
We came to Chicago for a concert and found this restaurant on google. The moment we walked in the door we were treated like family. Then the food came out and it was absolutely delicious. I highly recommend Park Tavern if you are going to the United Center. They are wonderful and they have a shuttle to the venue.
google avatar

Yelp
I came here with a friend before a concert at the United Center, and it was pretty good. When I walked in I was told to put my name in (we decided on this place too late to make a reservation), and that it would be a half-hour wait. Luckily, there were two seats at the bar so we just snagged those. The food was pretty good, I had a chicken Caesar wrap that was good (not outstanding), and my friend got the tacos and enjoyed them as well. We both got a seasonal pumpkin cider that we enjoyed. Service at the bar was maybe a little slow, but the bartenders we interacted with were friendly enough, and prices seemed reasonable. One downside, and it's not really the fault of Park Tavern but was still annoying: the bar is right next to the door, and our seats were right in front of the door. We were there on the first cold day of the season, and when people would walk in and out of the door the door would get stuck open in the wind, sending in a huge blast of cold air. Now, some of that is on the part of the people coming in and out not closing the door behind them (and when my friend and I took to shooting them looks if they didn't, they seemed to pick up on it), but perhaps there's also a way to fix the doors so they don't get stuck open (or maybe not). Overall, though, it was a fine place to go before the concert.
google avatar

Peachez P.

Yelp
Not bad, it was ok. My boyfriend took me here after I landed October 29th, 2021. My meal was average my pasta was a little too soft for my liking but overall it was good. We also had the shrimp as an appetizer but I didn't take a picture.
google avatar

Teri G.

Yelp
Still a great location for United Center events but staffing issues make the experience less than ideal, especially if you're trying to get to an event on time. Reservations don't mean much, based on my last visit. Hope they get it together.

John O.

Yelp
Kitchen closes at 7:00 PM. That's a big limitation, don't you think. Food is decent. Good beer list. Good outside space.
google avatar

Yelp
We went to the Park Tavern, before the Luke Combs Concert. We were asked if we made a reservation, we tried but it would not let us. There were able to seat us by the bar. At the time it was semi busy, but filling up. Jeremiah waited on and we got our drinks quickly and we ordered a chicken nacho to split. The food came quickly and the hot and good. The place filled up quickly and the bar that Jeremiah was taking care was full. He did his best at trying to keep track of us, but it was hard for him. The host came to the table to see if we need something, we did order two more drinks, that we found out later that they comped us. The reason for the four stars the food was good and the drinks were well made. The service was excellent for as busy as it was. FYI after the concert we went back
google avatar

Daniel S.

Yelp
Nice place to eat/drink at before/after United Center games and events, it's cheaper than eating at the stadium that's for sure. There aren't a whole lot of places near UC, this might be the closest one. It's your standard sports bar getup, though definitely nicer than most. Lots of tables, lotsa TVs. Pretty good draft beer list, I had a craft pale that I had never had before. I also got the crispy Brussels sprouts app which were very good. Not quite sure what the parking situation would be, as it's so close to the stadium, they might have valet, but it's pretty close to the blue line medical district stop. All in all, nothing mind-blowing, but it's definitely a quality option for when you're going to the United Center

Yelp
Really glad this bar was open 09/2020 even during COVID. Huge space! Great patio area too! Came on a random Friday afternoon at 3 PM to watch a hockey game and they were so nice and had us sit at a booth and came over to find the game on tv for us SHRIMP TACOS!!!!!!!!! Omg wow amazing. I was blown away. Absolutely delightful. Even came with extra salsa and the onions/cilantro Huge avocado slices on each taco Came with 4 tacos and fresh beans (not refried) and rice Georgia mule was really nice and refreshing as well Also ordered the mango habenero wings- decent but didn't really taste like mango habenero, ranch was watery The French fries were really good and house made ketchup was good! Clean bathrooms & friendly staff

Yelp
Rarely do I go somewhere that Yelp stars low and I question it. This rare time was at the Park Tavern on the first night of Smashing Pumpkins at the happy hour rush! We luckily got a seat at the bar. The service was fantastic and even when they were rushed it was shockingly quick. Happy hour here is EXCELLENT, especially if you are seeing a show at United Center. Half off drafts, $4 mixed drinks and glasses of wine. We shared the poutine tots ($10) that were delicious and a chicken club ($14 maybe). The food was served shockingly fast, was a generous portion and was delicious. The shuttle to and from United is free, runs frequently, you can take drinks from the bar on it and it drops you off across the street. Can it really get any better than that if you go to an event here? Get your parking validated at bar for $8 parking in deck across the street from Park Tavern. Will definitely be back when going to an event here...might even come back to hit up their happy hour. We were impressed and saved some cash drinking here instead of the $12 screwing for beer there!

Yelp
Good food and good service. Easy and fast to get to the United center. They also have a bus that takes you there which is great

Yelp
Used to be a staple of mine. Has really gone downhill. Food is meh. Drinks are meh. Staff has become lazy and rude.

Yelp
Nice spot for drinks and food. The menu includes things like wings, gumbo, asparagus, pretzel sticks, nachos and sweet potato French fries. We had the wings and sweet potato fries which were so good. This isn't bar food, it's actual chef made meal. Drinks were around ten bucks. The French martini was super good. They don't have any sweet wines just in case that's your thing.

Yelp
The fish tacos are to die for! This restaurant has so many great items it's hard to pick just one! Def check out their wings or Mac n cheese!

Yelp
This place comes highly recommended by the Blackhawks subreddit, so I figured I'd eat here before taking in my first regular season game at the United Center. There's a garage across the street and the restaurant will validate your parking pass so it's only $5 or $6. Park Tavern has a shuttle van that will take you to and from the Center, but it's an easy five minute walk if the weather's decent. I was worried after reading the reviews here about the service, but there was nothing to complain about. We were seated immediately despite the many Hawks fans there. Our waitress was friendly and attentive even though the place was busy. My water was refilled multiple times. Food is good and the entree portions are generous. Try the cheese curds - they have a light, pillowy batter that has spoiled me for any other curd. I had the macaroni and cheese of the day: buffalo shrimp. Five spicy shrimp adorned the giant bowl of mac and cheese. The Mac itself was a little plain but still good. No long wait to settle the bill either. Bottom line - service was great, food very good (cheese curds exceptional), location perfect for pre- or post United Center events.

Ashley L.

Yelp
Restaurant as a whole was not busy so service should have been better. Our server, Joseph R, didn't really care to introduce himself and had zero personable skills. As a fulltime server for my profession I was extremly annoyed throughout our dinner experience. End of night Joesph literally walked by our table dropped check never stopping to say Thanks for coming in...he just Mumbled "here is your check" ummm....how do you make a living off your tips??

Asantua W.

Yelp
Love this place. I've been going here for years, usually they host a ceremony for us but the atmosphere and staff are wonderful!
