Best Hotel Bars in Austin | Eater Austin

"Just north of downtown near campus, Hotel Ella offers a quaint boutique space with an antique-ish look and feel. The hotel bar is a cozy off-lobby area with velvet banquettes, a sleek marble lobby, and a rightfully beloved happy hour with solid discounts on draft beers, select wines, and classic cocktails like Negronis, margaritas, and Old Fashioneds. Its got seating inside and outdoors on a lovely patio." - Taylor Tobin

Enjoyed the convo and comfortable upscale environment for an impromptu happy hour and light remote work. Max the bartender was great and had lots of fun facts about the hotel! And Austin history. I'll be back.

Just to say Max is amazing, best service I’ve ever had at a bar. I was there for a work thing and he made me the best pineapple margarita ever. Texas style! 😁 I wanna go back just so I can make sure to tip him properly. Had a great time!!

Yelp
The staff at Hotel Ella is excellent. From the super helpful valet to the attentive & hilarious bartender, customer service is top notch. It's great to have so many amenities on property such as dining & drink options as well as the relaxing pool & pool bar. As Expedia Gold members we should have been offered a room upgrade, but our room was good for the little time we were in it-just a view of the parking lot & adjacent ugly building. A bottle of wine is included with your stay which is a nice touch. We definitely will be back!

Yelp
I've stayed twice at this hotel. I thought it was OK the first time and was a decent value for the location. This time it didn't even rate OK. I will say, the staff are marvelous. Very nice and accommodating. However, the carpets are worn and dingy in the public areas and in our room. I like to unpack there was no dresser, just a broken down credenza under the TV which held a fridge that hardly worked. The showerhead was so bad that when I went back to San Antonio to pick up my daughter, I stopped by my house and took my own back to the room. Never had to do that before! $46 per night for valet parking seems a little steep, even for Austin. From a personal safety standpoint, I didn't like the fact that anyone could just walk in off the street to the hotel section. I would think you should have to use your room key at least. On the positive side, I will say that the linens were very nice (although my spoiled ass wife didn't think so..) In summary, I think if the tech-bro that owns this place would spend a couple of nights there, he would want to make some changes, pronto.

Yelp
Poor value, some unhelpful and abusive desk staff in the morning although we were checked in by a very pleasant person. When we were there in April, they were understaffed at Goodalls and did not even have orange juice to offer us. When we asked for a table knife, they went upstairs to "borrow" one from the event staff and came back empty-handed. We did not expect that due to the event we were attending at lunchtime we would not be able to enjoy a pleasant breakfast. And at $800 (including a resort fee that was charged for a swimming pool we could not have used without interrupting someone's wedding) we felt RIPPED OFF. Oh, and I forgot to mention the $46 parking fee. The valets were pleasant but not that $46 worth of wonderful. I had made a reservation at the AT&T and decided this would be a better choice because we would be nearer the events for the celebration of life we were attending. Mon dieu, we were very mistaken. I had never left a hotel (other than a flea bag place in Jackson, MS one night in 1980) with more regrets about having booked a room than I did after one night in that mediocre room 108 overlooking an ugly parking area at the Hotel Ella. I want a refund!

Yelp
I would give it a five if it wasn't dated. The outstanding service made it up more than expected! From the valets Elli and Keith, they were very polite and professional nothing like the rude usual valets in so called better four star hotels! Then there's the easy check in! I was upgraded! And then the bartender Max was very personable! It's like they don't work in this hotel. Boutique hotels are like you being welcomed in their well loved home! But Daniel! The manager really stepped it up! We had a great time walking in our hotel room! The door had a picture of our reason why we were ATX downtown! Justin T pictures were all over the nice clean room! I mean pictures even a framed one by the bed! The poolside was a beautiful touch. It's a gem in this hub! "JT by my side"! Sweeet touch by Daniel our desk manager. I've traveled the world but I've never had this very personalized touch! My friend and I had the time of our lives before the concert checking in Hotel Ella!!!

Yelp
Arrived at the Hotel Ella last Saturday afternoon as my friend and I were going to watch the Justin Timberlake concert at the Moody Center. It's a boutique hotel in a tree-lined area so I couldn't find it at first as my GPS was set for the Hotel Ella Garage which was on another street around the corner. I called my friend and she guided me & said to just park at the valet and have them drop off my bags in the room so I can meet her at the sitting room outside of the bar. Keith was at the valet area & was friendly & welcoming. I told him my plans & he gladly fetched another female assistant who took my bags as he parked my car. I felt genuinely welcomed and set the tone esp. after driving 1.5 hrs from SA. I walked in and past the front desk and was my friend had a Charcuterie Board she was munching on while seated at a sofa in the sitting room which is adjacent to the bar. I noticed the Victorian look of the place but with modern, updated touches yet with a comfy feel. My friend gave me a token for a complimentary drink. Daniel, the concierge/host introduced himself as he came around from the front desk area and greeted me. He knew we were headed to the concert as others were also staying in the hotel for the same reason. He was very personable, welcoming and asked if I knew about the hotel which I had only read briefly on the website. He handed my friend & I a printout of the history of the hotel and the owners, their vision and we read up on it while relaxing. He told us that if we needed anything to let him know. Daniel was wearing suspenders & a brim and looked perfectly throwback at this hotel! As I was perusing the menu, I wasn't sure what I could order with the drink token so I asked Daniel and he walked me up to the bar, introduced the bartender who explained what the complimentary cocktails were. I chose the Ella Martini which had Vodka, Chambord, Pineapple Juice & Foaming Bitters. It was very refreshing & light esp. with the foam. There were flies flying around our food and drinks & we were fanning them away so a waitress brought us a portable long-bladed plastic fan which warded off the flies. She apologized and said there are a lot of flies lately from the humidity. There was another lively & friendly employee with a white uniform(not sure if he worked in the kitchen?) would occasionally ask if we needed anything? My friend commented on his dark blue nails & we started talking about gel and dipped nails & how long they last, LOL! My friend asked another employee if there was a safe in our room which the employee thought but wasn't sure so he asked for permission to check our room and would get back to us. He came back & informed us that there wasn't a safe & none were available for us to use. When we got back to our room, 'lo and behold in front of the door was a Justin Timberlake headshot printed out! We started laughing and took photos. When we got in there were more JT photos scattered on the mirrors, walls, window, bathroom door and even a framed printout of JT next to the bed! LOL!!!! My friend and I were laughing our heads off and I said to her "OMG...Daniel went ABOVE and BEYOND our expectations!!!" She had just told me that he had the framed JT photo in his desk and she had asked for it but he said he couldn't give it away, LOL!! I thought that was such a nice and humorous gesture and totally set the tone for our concert night!! You just don't get spontaneous gestures like this at the big hotels. We took videos & photos, uploaded to Social Media and got ready for the concert. Besides that, the room had a nice sitting area, marble bathroom countertops, shower, complimentary large, liquid soap/shampoo/conditioner in the shower, bar soap & lotion & a small fridge. We had a nice juliette balcony view of the pool which was beautifully lit at night with the city as a backdrop. The rooms were quiet and the bed was a medium firmness with thick pillows and fluffy comforter. Robes were provided in the closet. For being an older hotel, I didn't smell any mustiness so kudos on their air-filtering system, esp. with this hot, humid summer weather. When we checked out, it was easy and we requested our cars which didn't take long. Keith, our valet car attendant was helpful & I mentioned to him that we couldn't have breakfast onsite as we had to attend church services within 15 minutes. Everyone on the staff was helpful, welcoming and attentive. I would come back again and highly recommend this small, boutique hotel where hospitality is surely focused!!

Yelp
Our wonderful stay started off with the great help of Ellie, Michael and Micha. On time and super friendly with the valet process. Cici at the front desk was so nice even complimented my nails! They have so many refreshments to choose from grabbed a few Dr peppers. The dinning hall to the left is beautifully set with fresh flowers. To the right is a trendy spot to take photos on their moody couch. The halls are gorgeous and lined with black and white art work. The room is decorated with eccentric artwork paired with a lovely fluffy white bed with so soft sheets. Curtains are double lined for optimum comfort at night. They also have a dry cleaning that they will take care of for you. Definitely going to recommend this place to family and friends.

Yelp
Amazing property and friendly, hospitable staff. Have stayed multiple times and will return. Only complaint is food quality in the restaurant. Would love some organic orange juice, better fruit, and other healthy morning items. The prices are premium but they're pouring bottom shelf Tropicana and fruit that is clearly discount. Splurge the extra $0.25 on organic oats, breads, eggs, etc. (The prices are premium already) And I'll spend a lot more time and money at Goodall when in town rather than looking down the street for a healthy morning juice. In the rooms, would be helpful to have some water or beverages. Not a fan of tap water as only option. Given the hotels premium feel, a little chocolate on the nightstand and little touches like a bottled sparkling water or other minor additions make a big difference in the stay. Will return; would love to see these touches.

Yelp
I grappled with a rating for this hotel. I settled on four stars since it was more a situation of expectation versus reality. I had been here once before, to the Mansion on Judges Hill, when it was a restaurant. It was years ago and some of the nearby condos and apartments hadn't been built or it somehow seemed more removed from the chaos of campus. Now, it is surrounded on all sides by an ever expanding city and so it feels a little lost in the mix. Upon arrival, we had to call to the valet, who was busy on his mobile phone. To be fair, driving a hybrid means I can sneak up on almost anyone since my cat is nearly silent. He took our keys and was very welcoming and asked if we would need the car again this evening and helped get bags and escort us in. The desk staff was also very gracious and welcoming. Honestly, everyone was. Since our stay was in celebration of an anniversary, they offered to send a complimentary bottle of wine to our room. A nice touch. The room was small, but nice with somewhat dated furniture including a settee that looked like it was made for a child, a mirrored coffee table and some scratched night tables. It was clean and opened to a small patio overlooking the pool (a very small pool). For the price point, I'd have expected robes and slippers and at the very least, a coffee maker in the room. No such luck. The bathroom was small but had the necessities although, I was kind of grossed out by the larger bottles of shampoo and conditioner intended to remain in the room after our stay, but I brought my own, so whatever. Better for the environment, but it still kind of creeps me out. Again, pleasant stay overall, but for the price, and considering they charge a $25/night amenities fee, there were few amenities one would expect. No free coffee, robes, etc.

Yelp
This review is for Goodall's inside the hotel. Charming place. I liked the mint lemonade though it was lighter than I thought it would be. Food took about 45 minutes which still feels excessive to me. Especially considering we were the only table. Fair portion considering the price. Good place to drop In If you need to kill some time. But definitely not the place for a quick lunch. Staff, while friendly, did not more fast.

Yelp
I'm very ambivalent about our experience for a high tea service. Beautiful historic hotel. Valet parking only. But the valet that day was wonderful with our 95 yr old grandmother who uses a walker. Made reservations almost a month prior for daughter's 40th birthday. The food presentation was beautiful and plentiful. The problem is they miss the mark of an actual high tea in regard to the food. Although the sandwiches were delicious there were no cucumber, dill and cream cheese triangles. Their smoked salmon was delicious but should have been tiny and petite. Just like their macaroons. The chicken salad sandwich was open faced and delicious. But the problem was that we could have eaten just one because of the size and called it lunch. One of my daughters is a vegetarian and there was no option for her to enjoy. The waitstaff kindly made her the cucumber cream cheese. But again they miss the mark on a ladies High Tea. The sandwich served was only 2 triangles but a large sandwich of 2 triangles. There was so much food left due to portion size. If you expect clotted cream with your scones that was not to be found. The blueberry scones were the perfect size but under cooked and doughy inside. If they are to continue serving a High Tea then they need to actually understand the High Tea. Small 2 bite open faced sandwiches and not medium lunch size portions which made you full after eating. Food was excellent just not what you expected for a High Tea ladies day out. There were 6 of us of 3 generations. Nothing felt special. So if you are looking for the experience go elsewhere. If you would enjoy just a lunch out with family then go to Hotel Ella.

Yelp
The first time I stayed at the hotel, my room was in the adjoining building at the very back facing the alley. In the early morning hours the sound of the dump trucks and construction crews interrupted my sleep. I was not impressed. During the most recent stay, because other nearby hotels were full, I thought if I upgraded to a suite things would be different. I was wrong. The suite was on the MLK side of the building and you could hear the traffic and sirens through the old windows all night long. The mattress was old and lumpy. And the wedding that weekend was loud in the wee hours. Best of all when I returned home I noticed spider bites on my back. When the hotel asked about my stay, I told them about the noise, mattress, and bites. They only replied to say the issue had been escalated to management...and then nothing. I will NEVER stay in Hotel Ella again.

Yelp
The hotel is beautiful and very close to UT Austin. The free music on the lawn on Wednesday nights in the spring is really pleasant, and the patio is gorgeous. My review would be 5 stars, but when the coffee bar first opened, I came by for breakfast one day and the staff seemed really confused, and I had to talk to at least three bartenders/baristas to place my order. I don't know why the vibes were so off. The pastries were also expensive, but tasty. I think mine had flowers on it. Overall, Hotel Ella really classes up West Campus, and I've been meaning to try the pool pass. I can't speak to the rooms as I've never spent the night here.

Yelp
My husband and I can't thank the staff at Hotel Ella enough for the hospitality and courtesy they showed our family a few weeks ago at their beautiful hotel. We made an appointment with the event coordinator there to take our annual Holiday photos and were so impressed by the attentiveness and treatment we received while taking the photos. The staff gave us a tour of the beautiful boutique hotel located near UT campus in the heart of Austin, and let us use the dining room, the main porch and the lawn as needed to capture the photos we needed. At the end of our photoshoot we promised our kiddos some snacks from their front lobby and the hotel staff treated our kids on the house to whatever they wanted. We also had help from the staff shooting a few of the photos. All in all, we can't stop raving about how kind everyone was the entire process and would recommend Hotel Ella in a heartbeat to all of our friends and family. You've earned a patron for life. Thank you!

Yelp
I've been staying at Hotel Ella for over 7 years and I could not be more disappointed with how downhill it's gone all while the price keeps going up. Recently they redecorated the front sitting room in the MOST CHEAP decor that I can only imagine they bought at Walmart. They took their beautiful photographs down and replaced with dinky uneven wall shelves and took out the cool retro/modern lamps and furniture. The front sitting room was the one space that did not need an upgrade it was very cool before. I agree that some of the furnishings in the rooms had been looking dingy and needed replacing, but they have left all of those there. lol. Why did they mess with the one room that was so iconic Hotel Ella? Don't even get me started on the new, but absolute cheap crap loungers they bought for the pool area. It's truly shocking, I can't imagine who made these choices. The loungers are new but falling apart plus you can't lie on your stomach because they are curved to the ground. The side tables just tip over and fall. They had really nice heavy duty teak loungers and side tables before that just needed new staining. They replaced high end quality items with cheap Walmart stuff. Again I am utterly confused and it's sad you have to actually pay more to stay there or do a pool day there. After all these years sadly I will be finding a new boutique hotel to stay at when in Austin. Still love the location and the staff is fantastic, everyone except the people in charge of the change in the aesthetic.

Yelp
My experience at this hotel still has me shocked and in disbelief. I checked in at 11pm and self parked my car in a parking spot. I checked in with no problem. The front desk agent told me he was going to walk me to my room. As we were walking in between buildings he asked me for my car key. I started to question why it wasn't asked for upon check in and questioned the validity of his request. Why now? Where was my ticket stub like I would get if I valeted? His response was, "you're so gross" and slammed the building door in my face". I was speechless. Management was little to no help. Apologized, but still told me it was out of his character. For the record. I would be fine with handling over my key upon check in, also, with explanation- not while I'm being walked to my room. I started to check reviews after this incident and someone with a Mercedes (same car as mine) had their car stolen off the property. They mentioned the Hotel was no help at all. I didn't pay $350 for a nights stay to have a door slammed in my face and called gross.

Yelp
If I could live at the Hotel Ella, I would. The original mansion is gorgeously decorated, an intimate bar with nice bar menu and creative cocktails is a pleasure to spend a couple of hours in, and the wrap-around porch is a delight for breakfast or just some hang time. Rooms were nice (ours overlooked the small pool). Staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. Valet parking only - Austin is a city, after all. Good location, off the beaten path but not too far away (although you will have to drive to pretty much everything). I'd go back!

Yelp
Great getaway for the pandemic time! Hotel Ella, in central Austin, is a stately mansion that has been expanded to include about 45 rooms, a nice restaurant, and a lovely pool area. Its location, not far from the UT campus and the Texas capitol, is ideal. Its lovely veranda, on two sides, and lower level yard are so lovely for relaxing with morning coffee or afternoon cocktails. There are many comfortable rattan chairs and little tables. The hotel has a friendly and helpful staff. They also have plenty of free and convenient parking. It was an ideal hotel to meet our daughter, and enjoy a few poolside afternoons during the pandemic, and also have the advantage of a smaller number of guests. It is only a short ride to many small, well-rated restaurants in Austin, a city that has such an abundance of unique and interesting places to eat. A great choice!

Yelp
Beautiful hotel , however receiving a lower rating because the hotel charged me a lower amount on accident but then decided to randomly charge my card for the difference 2 months later with no call, text, email or heads up of any kind. That's very unprofessional, when a person settles there charges and checks out that's on YOU if you screwed up and forgot to charge the tax . Instead you think it's smart to freak out the customer and charge them making them think it's fraud or etc .. not too mention I stayed for business so charging my card and not giving an explanation or providing a receipt when I need to account for my expenses with work. Very I professional.

Yelp
This is a positively charming boutique hotel, located near the UT Austin campus and other sights within the downtown Austin area, and just moments away from Interstate 35. My companion and I enjoyed a two night stay recently, and the experience was great. We were just in town for a weekend getaway, but the staff took care of us as if we were VIPs. The valets knew us by sight and make my car available quickly when needed. Our ice bucket was refilled for us upon request. Everyone was very professional and friendly. The room itself was spacious and beautiful, with a comfortable king bed. If there was a nit to pick at all, they could use more power outlets for today's power hungry travelers, but we managed. The decor was very nice, with quality furniture and nice artwork. There wasn't a refrigerator that's usable for guest products (there is one for the mini-bar), so be aware. Moving into the common areas, this property is quaint and beautiful. There's a full bar, and both indoor and outdoor seating on the expansive Southern style porch. The staff were all professional and friendly, and made us feel welcome throughout our stay. Overall, this is a really beautiful hotel, and if you're looking for a property convenient to the Capitol and/or the UT campus, this should be very high on your list!

Yelp
I hosted a brunch at Hotel Ella for 9 guests. Great menu, lovely setting. The veranda is especially nice!

Yelp
Hotel Ella's staff is top tier! Carter, Trevor, Ryan, and Jennifer helped me plan an amazing 21st birthday party for a friend! They were so accommodating and very helpful through the night. They made this an amazing night for her and they are super awesome. I CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE ENOUGH. Props to Carter, Trevor, Ryan, and Jennifer, the night would have not been the same without them. Thank you!!!

Yelp
Ok. The hotel was nice. Service was good. The room had a pipe in the wall that buckled every 60 seconds ... meaning the entire wall " popped " like a piece of popcorn. The ENTIRE night. It was truly miserable. I slept 2 hours in 3 days. Food at the hotel was below average. Service was good. Food was dry. Overpriced. Slow to come out of the kitchen. It just wasn't good at all. Valet parking was a nightmare. Nice kids. Just a terrible setup for them .... They can't win.

Yelp
What a disappointment. The bathroom in my double queen room was what you would expect in an old roadside motel. What good is a marble shower if you don't have an electrical outlet near the vanity? The bathroom area was so hot, it took forever to finish dressing. There was no way to see the mirror while using the bow dryer. The light over the mirror was offset, sitting next to the abandoned outlet where one once had lived. When I complained to the desk clerk, she said, "Oh, you booked with Expedia, they give you the worst rooms." No offer to make it better. Nada. Zip. Nothing. I won't stay there again.

Yelp
Hotel was nice, just run by teenagers. Valet, however, did $600 worth of damage to my car. If you drive stick, do NOT let valet touch your car.

M A.

Yelp
Pros: -Huge rooms (Our 2 queen room is the biggest I've ever seen) -Room was very clean and ours was quiet at night, although judging by other reviews, we may have just been lucky. -The service at the pool was good. Our server was attentive, and the margaritas were enjoyable. Cons: -Got charged a nightly amenity (resort) fee - seriously? For what amenities? Besides a very small pool, the hotel was actually lacking amenities. For example, there were no coffee machines or ice machines anywhere in the hotel.. to name a few. -The front desk staff was useless. There are steps to get up to the hotel, and we had alot of stuff. A staff member held the door for us while he saw us struggling to carry everything, but never offered to help us with our bags or even provide a luggage cart. The front desk then told us we had to walk to the building next door and go up more steps to get to the room. I've never seen a hotel not offer to assist you. -The hotel is not really walking distance to anything. You'd be better off staying more centrally located in downtown Austin. Overall, just an "okay" stay. You can find better options out there.

Yelp
There were a few things we liked about this place such as the large, clean spacious rooms and strong air conditioning. The food and drinks we ordered were good as well. However, I feel the amenities fee (around $30 per night) is completely unnecessary. The room lacked standard items that even the cheaper hotels include such as an in-room coffee maker, bottled water, robes, Q tips/shower caps, nor do the rooms even include a desk (although there is plenty of space for one.) The pool is very tiny and all of the loungers were booked up by 11 AM leaving us to have zero shade the entire day at the pool. We didn't see the fitness center but apparently it's very small with only two machines in it. So what is the amenities fee actually going towards? There is also no ice machine in the entire hotel and we were told we had to go to the restaurant to get it every time. Lastly, as we checked in (two females struggling to carry all of our bags) the two men at the front desk simply gave us our key and told us we had to walk next door to another building to access our room. No offer to help us with our bags or bring out a cart for us to put them on. A little customer service would have been nice.

Yelp
I've never written a review on a hotel before but felt the need to for this one; it's so cute. The staff is super nice, the place is modern and clean, the location is great, everything was wonderful. The whole experience was very pleasant. If we ever go back to Austin we will definitely stay here again.

Yelp
Hotel Ella is a charming, boutique hotel set in a beautiful historic mansion, very close to the UTA campus. I stayed here during a recent trip to Austin for work, and while I loved the stylish interior and storied past of the property, I came away thinking that it was a poor choice for a business traveler. Overall, three and a half stars! Pros- - free WiFi throughout the hotel - small fitness room, open 24/7 - a cute courtyard pool with lounge chairs - stylish, modern interiors, loved the artwork! - wraparound veranda; the porch was a perfect place to cool off with a drink - Hotel bar with 50% off weekday happy hours - free coffee in the lobby Cons- - no iron or ironing board in the room. This was the biggest put off for me. - apart from a chick-fil-A and a couple of taco places, there are no real dining options within walking distance - my room did not have a deadbolt, which was a little unsettling - no in room coffee or tea facilities - no free breakfast - pool and fitness room are small - noisy! This hotel appears to be a favorite with bachelorette parties, and on my last night there, there were a bunch of noise women on my floor - no writing desk in the room, even though there was space for one

Yelp
This review is only for Hotel Ella's tea service but I have to give them kudos for a wonderful afternoon! Came here for a friend's birthday and it was such a relaxing afternoon! There was several flavors of tea to choose from (all from Zhi Tea) and you receive a whole pot. You're also given sugar, honey, cream, and lemon to add to your tea. The food bites range from savory to sweet and all were tasty! Price was around $30 which seems totally reasonable. Although it was a weekend afternoon, it wasn't busy in the dining room at all. Service was friendly and the decor of the hotel is beautiful. The cherry on top is the free, valet parking when you drive up to the entrance. Definitely would come back!

Yelp
We had an extraordinary first-stay at The Ella! A beautiful, historic landmark enriched with a team of people who were not only fun and engaging, but eager to assist us in any way! Zoe, Katie, and Zach all absolutely stood out as exceptionally professional AND friendly: each going above and beyond to welcome us, and provide 5-Star service during our stay! Highly recommend: to staycationers, business stays, and vacationers alike!

Yelp
The Hotel Ella is an insanely gorgeous, greek revival style hotel pretty close to UT-Austin/The Drag. The hotel gives the trendiest vibes with a lobby/parlor bar decorated with funky B&W photos of individuals like Willie Nelson and Woody Harrelson. Its kind of dark and masculine but sleek and there's even an antique gun mounted on the wall. The Pool area is small but really cute, with a green wall behind the chairs and strung lights at nighttime. I stayed in the extension (ie not a room in the main building, but off by the pool). My room was lovely, with probably the comfiest bed I have ever stayed in. Also, there was free coffee out the next morning on the first floor. If you need to stay in the area, this is a great place! And surprisingly reasonable for what you get.

Yelp
We booked a stay at Hotel Ella at the beginning of October. Check in went smooth but it went downhill after that. We were placed in a room next to the pool which sounded nice until we were woken up a 2, 3, and 4 am to a party at the pool. We called multiple times but the party continued on. We were told valet parking would be free due to Covid. We were happy about this and tipped our drivers. However, 2 days after checkout we were charged $30 for valet? I called to ask about a refund and Juan Carlos told me I would receive a call back from the manager but its nows been over 3 weeks without a call back. Needless to say we were disappointed with our stay and recommend you look elsewhere.

Yelp
We just left Hotel Ella and are already missing it. There is so much to say about this property, lots of props to give. The staff is filled with kind, warm people. The valet guys had us cracking up every time we walked by - particular shoutouts to Splash, Tyler, and Jeshua. Front desk staff was always helpful and upbeat - desperately wish I remembered the names of the two people who helped us most (a blonde guy who loves the portrait of RDJ in the bar, and a brunette woman who pointed out Cute Nail Salon to me -- cheers to you both). The grounds themselves were gorgeous; I felt like I was walking around in someone's Pinterest board. We didn't get to go in the pool (too chilly out) but sat poolside for some good conversation, and got to enjoy the veranda as well. We got the breakfast package, $35/day towards breakfast from Goodall's. Over the course of the weekend, I had the steel cut oats, the pancakes, breakfast potatoes, and fruit -- all delicious. Husband had the shakshuka, said it was awesome. We didn't spend any time in the bar, but I did pop in for a shirley temple and it was super fancy and delicious. If a mocktail is that good, I'd imagine their cocktails are as well. Our room was cozy, just enough space for sleeping, washing up and heading out to explore Austin. Bed was comfortable, amenities were great, and mini-bar prices weren't obnoxious. We had a queen room; they do have larger/fancier rooms, and I'd probably spring for one if traveling for longer or in a larger group. We'll totally be back - and hopefully in warmer weather to enjoy the pool!

Yelp
Hotel Ella is simply magical. I love being there. I got married there about a month ago but, since most people looking at this review will be looking at it as a hotel, I'll focus on that. First, let's talk rooms: I stayed in three different rooms during my time there, one of which was in one of the Mansion Petite Suites. I love the décor at Hotel Ella. There's something that feels both luxurious and comforting at the same time. Although it was great to have the balcony off of the Suite, I actually really liked my pool view room the best. It was quite spacious, the furniture layout flowed well, and it was great to look out at the pool. Secondly, there's the food: I have been to Hotel Ella's Goodall's Kitchen and Parlour bar many times and I was always impressed. How did they figure out a way to take a standard like Hummus and make it even better? Beats me. My favorite menu item that I tried was the Warm Pop Tart (only served on the weekends). It sounds kind of 'blah' and then you try it and you wonder if you'll ever eat something as perfect every again. Full disclosure: I am a vegetarian so I haven't tried any of their meat dishes. And of course, the service: I was very warmly greeted at every interaction and staff members always took an extra step to make us comfortable. Getting married there with 75 out-of-town guests, you can imagine we had a lot of requests! Even though I live in Austin, I still love to stay at Hotel Ella.

Yelp
Very nice hotel. Very friendly. Great pool and pool service. The bar is small and a bit $$$ but the 4 drinks I had were very good. The beds are a bit hard but the service, atmosphere and amenities make up for it. Also we tried their $40 breakfast buffet. While it was s little pricey everything we had was DELICIOUS!! Keep up the good work guys. Great job bar, restaurant and hotel staff.

Yelp
Not o ly iis it located in a great part of town in one of the most beautifully refurbished old Antebellum buildings in the area, but the staff is the most gracious and accommodating which means something in Austin. I travel a lot, and have stayed at other lovely landmark hotels here and around the world, and Elaa is now at the top of my list. Thank you Drew and all of the other lovely folks for making our time here so enjoyable.!

Yelp
I had a really good stay this past Sunday night at hotel Ella. The property is so charming and beautiful. Pros Hotel staff was wonderful Food was pretty good Pool is relaxing and super pretty Rooms are very clean Great cheap taco place next door So many cute sitting areas around the hotel Quiet and no children around (I was there on a Sunday so I'm not sure if weekends would be worse) Huge gorgeous bathroom Cons Not much around the hotel in way of restaurants or nightlife (besides the cute taco place) Pool was so cold my feet went numb Room was TINY with low ceilings so felt claustrophobic No closet or dresser

Yelp
Hotel Ella is a cute hotel with a lot of nice art and nice details. My experience was overall okay. When I walked into the lobby, two people were there and were leaning over the check in table and I wasn't sure if they worked there or who exactly I was supposed to talk to. They both stared at me up and down and said hi so I thought that was extremely uncomfortable/judgy/weird and it was my first impression. Then they started laughing loudly and were like "sorry we're really high" to the people behind the counter so I realized they were not employees. When I checked in the staff was nice and I went to my room that was fairly small. The most disappointing thing was that my room's view was a wall so close to the window. The area where my room was was off to the left of the building and just felt really segregated from the courtyard, which really has the cutest parts of the hotel, so that was really a bummer. I went back down to the lobby to try to change the room (which was probably possible because there was barely anyone in the hotel). But the lady said she was all booked. The area where my room was was a little creepy because no one was really there and it was a super small room with a window facing a wall. When I went to the pool it was really nice and relaxing which was the best part. The courtyard is great and the artwork is really beautiful. It's just how segregated my room was was a real buzzkill and shaped my perception of the hotel's ambiance.

Yelp
Nice place, with really nice staff. The rooms were clean and the bed was super comfy. This is an expensive stay. Over 200$ a night plus mandatory Valet. 25$ a day for valet, not including tip. You can't get your own car out of the garage so it is a bit annoying. They say you can park on the street but there isn't anywhere to park on the street so you really can't. We stayed for 2 nights and were charged 75$ for the parking. How insane. Another con was it was so noisy. The mini fridge, which must have been broken because it was not cold at all, was LOUD The air conditioning In the room was LOUD. Every time it turned on the walls vibrated and shook the entire room. It woke me twice. I literally thought there was an earthquake the first time. The walls are paper thing so everytime someone walked by or opened and closed their door I could hear everything. Again, it was super LOUD. And no one was yelling, or slamming doors. We would stay here again as the employees working here were the most friendly I have ever encountered at any hotel I have been to. Otherwise this review may have been different.

Yelp
Alright. I rarely give 5-star reviews because I usually don't think anybody is perfect, but YALL-Hotel Ella is perrrrfect! I am planning my wedding and have had the PLEASURE of working with Hotel Ella. I am going to book with them because the Hotel is BEAUTIFUL and the Ball Room is so sleek and modern and clean. My Fiance and I have stopped by here 3 separate times. Once without an appt and the other time with an appt. EVERY time we came in, the people at the front desk were EXTREMELY helpful and kind. They even offered us water and drinks each time. This Hotel goes above and beyond on customer service and that is what I love about them. Heather - who is the event coordinator- was so so sweet and willing to work within our budget. She explained everything so well to us that we left with no questions unanswered and felt super comfortable about everything. There are certain people that have put me at ease during my wedding planning and Heather was definitely the top person that stands out. I recommend booking here for weddings, events, or even if you're from out of town, stay here! Hotel Ella is located right at the beginning of the drag. It is only a few minutes from downtown. STREET PARKING is the only parking available unless you want to valet. Garage parking is for guests only. Please give this hotel a shot, they are so amazing. I love them so much that I'd spend a weekend here even tho I live in Austin. haha.

Yelp
First impressions... The hotel staff is sweet, attractive, and nice. Valet was helpful and polite. Check in was easy. When I got to the room... Is is small, with no desk, and a view of nothing but a wall 10 feet from the window. The bathroom has marble tiles but the sink area is tiny and cramped. There is no closet, no ironing board, no iron, but a very well stocked countertop and refrigerated minibars that are annoying because of everything else that's missing. This is a vacation hotel, not a business traveler one

Yelp
The hotel is charming and very clean! The pool Is clean and well a manicured! On the weekend it's in full swing! Unfortunately service is very lacking during the week. The hotel is unable to provide anything but cups of water to guests after 2pm. No dinner, drinks, or room service during the weekdays. For someone out of town and working this is something to note when staying during the week day. Looking forward to alternative options such as pre-made bento boxes or listed options for meal/drink delivery nearby.

Yelp
My sister and I came to Hotel Ella to eat at Goodall's last weekend. Randall completely saved our experience. We had reservations for brunch and they were definitely backed up and seemed to be missing servers (like everyone else). Randall did everything from greeting me at the front desk, cleaning a table for us, bringing water and menus, and later checking in on our experience and helping bring our food out. He was super sweet and professional, and though it was clear that he was handling everything with very little help, he didn't break a sweat. Appreciate the customer service and we will definitely be back!

Yelp
I stayed at Hotel Ella one month ago, travel was for a work conference. The hotel rooms are nice but the management and business office has been a nightmare to deal with. At the time of our check -in and check-out they couldn't resolve any of our questions and took our credit cards and told us they would call us to follow up. No one ever called and days after our stay our cards were charged. I had to call and request a receipt several times. A month later and after multiple calls with managers and billing officers, I'm still waiting for a receipt with my billing information so I can get reimbursed for work. The front desk has no control on the way they charge (can't separate charges, etc.) and the back office has long phone waiting periods (avg 15-30 min each call). I have had one manager call me back to confirm that the request was placed with the business office but no resolution to date. Unfortunately, I will be contacting the state and university offices that hold this yearly conference to make sure they are aware of these issues so that they pick different accommodations next time.

Yelp
WELL I am NOT happy, actually very HANGRY!!! Arrived at 1:30pm for Brunch and was turned away. WTF I asked if we needed a reservation and was told no. We were told people are lounging, well let them know there are other people waiting to eat. There is a polite way to ask people to be courteous to other paying and hungry guests! Dressed up & drove all the way from College Station to be turned away ...even After I RSVP'D on Facebook. TERRIBLE! EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED! Including with the guy at the front desk. Hope you pay your waiters well because they won't be getting multiple table turn arounds = more tips.

Yelp
This hotel is A+++. First off, everything is GORGEOUS. You kinda just walk around in amazement thinking "I want that, and that, and that...that...that". We didn't want to leave. For a luxury hotel, pricing is incredibly fair. We were given a room with a patio out to the pool- it was incredible! My girlfriend and I traveled all night and called at 7am (check in is 3pm) to see if we could come just a couple hours early....they let us in at 8am!!! Already was blown away. We were able to eat breakfast at the restaurant inside and it was so cute, tasty & made for great photos All front desk personnel was helpful & kind- there was a mixup with my reservation hold and the manager, Brett, was attentive and beyond helpful to getting it resolved. He got on the phone TWICE with my bank to help me out. The location is perfect, too. I can't imagine wanting to stay at another place in Austin than Hotel Ella...fan for life!!! We'll be back...MANY times.

Yelp
a weekend alone never happens. I can't take a vacation, because of offspring. I can't relax, because I don't know how to. but I had a quick weekend away at Hotel Ella. first, I wasn't treated like a degenerate that I look like. second, everyone was so accommodating for valet, for me losing my room key, for bringing me ice like 37 times, for bringing me extra bubble bath and soap because it smells SO GOOD, for me not wanting breakfast & just grabbing an iced tea, for me going in and out of the hotel more times than I can count. third, they asked why I was staying. they wondered why a local would book a weekend. I explained my kid was in the ICU, and I wanted to be close, so I could visit her. the sympathy rolled in. the employees genuinely care why you are there & make your stay as comfy as possible.

Yelp
I cannot express through words how much I loved this beautiful hotel. It definitely brings the boutique vibe throughout the building with the old school charm. Our room was a great size for 2 people. The staff is beyond amazing and helpful! We didn't get a chance to try the restaurant but is on the to do list for next time. The hotel is in a great location. They even provide a free ride from there driver on site anywhere within a 3 mile radius.
