German Festival Wurstfest Is Canceled in New Braunfels Because of Coronavirus Pandemic - Eater Austin

"Senior citizens at the senior living community center Parmer Woods in North Austin are brewing their own beer right now, as reported by KXAN, dubbed Parmer Woods Beer Works. Life enrichment director Amy Casillas implemented the program. The small group does everything from picking the types of beers to bottling to helping with the label design. COVID-19 measures are in place, too, where the seniors wear gloves and masks. They’re going to brew an ale and a lager next, and have already made cider, an IPA, an oatmeal stout, and a wit beer." - Nadia Chaudhury

I had many restless nights prior to joining the Parmer Woods family. My loved one was determined to have independence but in reality, he needed help and a sense of community coming out of the isolation of COVID. We toured many places, from South Austin to North and there was no doubt, none felt as welcoming & energetic as Parmer Woods. Not too big, not too small, everyone is a familiar face. Whether it's a welcoming smile from Jennifer when you arrive, or a sweet hello from Bernie as he bounces between tasks, having this familiarity is important and it makes a tremendous difference for the residents. The transition from assisted living to memory care was seamless. This is a resource not available at all facilities and probably one of the most important things to consider. Brandy is phenomenal! She kept me informed, help bring me ease and was always ahead of any issue that may arise. Her guidance when it was time to make adjustments to therapies, medications, hospice etc was remarkable. Sherie is an angel on Earth. Every resident, and their family, are blessed to have such an incredible person caring for our loves. She sparked a personality in my loved one that had been buried for years, a smile and a laugh that never shined so bright. Ill be forever grateful for these ladies and every helping hand in the memory care side. Joe, Tori & Morgan are a great trio and always helped guide me and answer any and all questions about the the in & outs of everything, no question too big or too small. I would pick Parmer Woods all over again and will continue to recommend them for any family in need of their care.

Parmer Woods at North Austin is an excellent facility, all of the staff is so caring. Morgan is the best nurse to coordinate with and talk to. He is so kind, knowledgeable and advocates the best for all of his patients. So thankful for him! I would absolutely have my own loved ones live here.

We are thrilled with Mom's move to Parmer Woods! Having just moved her from out of state, our experience at her first community was less than desirable. Parmer Woods is exactly what I was looking for. She has done more in her first 9 days than 2 1/2 months at her previous community. The residents have been very welcoming and the staff is very kind and caring. I would highly recommend moving your loved ones here.

Upon visiting my brother several times, I find my brother is in good, caring hands. If someone asks me about Parmer Woods for their loved one, I would tell them this would be a home for them to consider.

Camber Ranch has been Awesome! Manager is kind and she always returns my calls and emails. The staff is just as helpful and patient as the manager. The property is beautiful and for the most part it’s always quite. Safety is a big issue for me and I feel safe here. Also, I love that every month there is a special activity for the renters. There’s many more benefits to renting here, like free coffee everyday. If you’re looking for a place, check Camber Ranch out. You may be happy you did. 😊

Yelp
They are owned by a company called Pegasus Senior Living, a Real Estate Investment Trust which didn't exist until they took over 36 "struggling" Brookdale Senior Living properties. "Struggling" is not a term you want to hear in regards to the care of your family member. The two owners from Dallas, TX, Steven Vick and Chris Hollister, began Pegasus because they were "a little bored". https://seniorshousingbusiness.com/the-shb-interview-steven-vick-and-chris-hollister-pegasus-senior-living/ My mother was admitted in May. She was evaluated by the Parmer Woods' nurse and determined that she met their criteria for care. Within four months they had done two other care evaluations and had reversed their decision regarding my mother. Apparently, the major change was that Hospice had "sneaked" in a Hoyer lift https://assistedlivingtoday.com/blog/best-hoyer-lifts/ into the facility for when they came to bathe her. (Must have been the Hospice ninjas signing themselves in and getting past the coded entrance.) This is a device that ensures safety and ease when lifting a patient from a bed, that Parmer Woods doesn't use because their staff "isn't trained in its use". It does not require a nurse or CNA, just training that keeps the patient and care-giver safe. They did not ask for it to be removed and used it themselves against their own policy until the day my mother left their facility. They did not share any of these evaluations with us or even contact us that we would need to find another facility. Instead, they sent us a legal eviction notice to remove our mother by October. The Executive Director claimed the legal course of action was taken because her staff informed her that they were unable to communicate with us. A single email was produced asking for a care conference. A meeting was arranged on October 2nd that included Pegasus Regional Director and after 40 minutes of admitting their negligence in communication, violating their own and State requirements and procedures, their lacking of training and overall incompetence, I had to point out that at no time did anyone of these 5 "care professionals" apologize. They are in the wrong business.

Yelp
I'm a resident at Parmer Woods Assisted Living Community located in North Austin. I have lived here for about a year. I have reached the age where I need a bit of extra help with everyday activities. I use a walker to get around but otherwise I can take care of most things myself. It's just nice not to have to do everything. I have a small comfortable efficiency apartment. I can fixmeals for myself or I can join my new friends for meals if I choose to. It's up to me. I can sit and vegetate watching TV if that's my mood or I can join those same friends in an activity planned by the Life Enrichment Director. The entire staff makes our lives here fuller. Thanks to them all. I do certainly recommend Parmer Woods Community as a great place to live.

Yelp
Thinking about placing a loved family member in Parmer Woods? That's great. We had a 91 year-old family member there for over a year. The following are some things we wished we had known before making the decision to move him there. There are some unwritten ground rules in effect at Parmer Woods. Do not ask facility management to provide the services and environment that their PR proclaims. That will make the managers defensive and mad. Do not ask that medicines are administered on time as prescribed. That will make the managers defensive and mad. Do not ask that communication with the memory care unit after hours and on weekends be provided. That will make the managers defensive and mad. Do not ask that activities be provided for residents. That will make the managers defensive and mad. Do not ask managers to return your calls. They will not. Do not ask care givers to actually give care to residents. In many cases that is just too much to ask. Do not ask that hearing aids be installed correctly. That is just too much to ask. Do not ask that oxygen dispensers be recharged and used appropriately. That is just too much to ask. Do not ask that laundry be cleaned, returned and inventoried. That is just too much to ask. Do not expect continuity of management as turnover in key positions is frequent. Employees and managers who appear to attempt to provide quality service and implement positive change do not remain employed for long. In fact, ask for anything and it is likely just too much and the managers will become defensive and mad. And know that if you ask for too much or expect too much the management will find a reason to ask your family member to leave. Staff at Parmer Woods love the residents who simply reside, eat when they are told to eat, sleep when they are told to sleep, take their meds when they are told to take them, and consider watching TV in large groups as stimulating activity. Staff do not love residents who have family members who have the gall to expect the institution to be resident and service oriented and practice good communication skills. On the other hand, the roof does not leak anymore, the grounds are well maintained, the HVAC works, and the food for the most part is edible.

Yelp
I am a former employee, left on my own for reasons that were comunicated to H.R.i also took a role i always wanted. Previous reviews from Kathy and Deb are somewhat accurate but they dint tell you was there loved one was there over a YEAR and was evicted as well..how does a resident get evicted who is a kind man. I don't feel those reviews are accurate ALL facilities have the same issues of staff and directors coming and going. Marketing is very good the directors with nursing and PT do not look at your loved one as a number they work on the fit, care and best and honest facts even if it means not taking on a resident. PARMER WOODS is a Al place that tries hard and has many successes. Is there things I'd like to see different YES however it meets the requirements and never coasts. They will not egnore any concern of a Resident or family. That is one thing I loved about being there. If my parents were still alive I'd feel CONTENT if they were in PARMER WOODS care

Yelp
Parmer Woods is not a healthy environment. No executive Director for eight months out of 12 so no leadership. Those that are there do not respond well to questions and do not follow up on communication. If you go once or twice a month it will appear OK. But going every day, you see the health of the patients in question, the communication to patients can be quite unfriendly at times and no differentiated activities as we were be told would happened. (No activities Director for memory for seven months out of 12. ) it will look pretty with flags and pictures and signs on the wall as the sales Director walks you around but I guarantee that is not what makes this building! There are so many others of quality in the Austin area. Try University Village, Sage, assisted, living and memory care, poets, walk, Sundara, pecan Ridge, Collinfield house, and many more!

Yelp
My 90 year old mother was a resident from 10/8/23 to 11/1/23--less than a month. I visited her every other day because I was not feeling comfortable with their care. She was rushed to the ER at St. Davids 3 TIMES during that stay. She fell out of bed and bumped her head each time. Stitches first time, scalp wound second time and staples the third time. I brought her back the first time to a blood splattered room. There is no personal care there and never witnessed caring interactions between residents and care givers. I discovered the last week she was there, several times she was sleeping in the afternoon in her bed with TV on loud, so no know could hear her cries for help. They would not give her a call button. The third time I was called to the ER, doctors told me no one knew how long she was on the floor and should reconsider her care. I took her out that day and am so grateful she is in my care. No one should consider this place if they expect to be cared for period. DO NOT PLACE A LOVED ONE IN PARMER WOODS.

Yelp
In response to Chucks comment about my sister and I. If you are going to use my name at least get the facts straight. The health and wellness director told us that because of daddy's coughing too much when he eats they could no longer let him stay. They were having to mechanically grind his food. I am happy to say in the facility he is in now he is eating regular food with no issues. It seem if a little care is taken he can eat enjoyable meals. In your response you stated our comments were somewhat true and then in the next paragraph you say they aren't. It's hard to get the facts straight when no facts are given. Call me when you put one of your loved ones in Parmer Woods and THEN you will be able to honestly comment on the care there.

Yelp
When my mom moved into Parmer Woods, she lived in the Assisted Living community. After a few months her Dementia progressed and she moved to the Memory Care unit. This was the hardest decision of my life, but the staff along with the management helped me with this transition and I am so happy with the care my mom recieves. She is in a environment where people care. I understand the frustration that a person may feel knowing that their loved one has Dementia and we seem to look for a finger to point. I am pointing a finger a Parmer Woods to say THANK YOU FOR ALL YOU DO!
