Overall disappointing experience--and yes, you should take people's warnings about the salt seriously. It's a nice space and there were some positive points in the meal, but this place feels like it's trying hard to provide a sophisticated experience, but the food and service were both plagued with the sorts of mistakes good restaurants shouldn't make.
The good news: The brandade fritters were tasty, the fluke crudo was delicious, and the crème brulée was solid.
The biggest problem with the food was my scallop entree with potatoes ecrasé and corn. The scallops were perfectly well cooked, but the dish was so overloaded with salt that I could barely make it halfway through the dish before it irritated my tongue. I like my food saltier than most, but this wasn't a matter of taste. This is simply too much salt for a dish to have.
Speaking of discomfort from the food, my companion's mussels were fine, but the fries were brought to the table at what must have been 375 degrees. Serving fresh fries shouldn't mean serving fries so fresh from the fryer that they're unsafe to eat until they've been on the table for several minutes.
We also ordered asparagus, but it never appeared, which speaks to the service. I ordered a martini with olives before we ordered our food. When our appetizers arrived before my cocktail, I asked the server. He "went to check" on it, then came back a few minutes later asking whether I meant dirty or just olives. He clearly never put in my drink order, just as he clearly never put in our vegetable order, and he was repeatedly nowhere to be seen for minutes at a time when we were ready to order something.
Maybe we caught the place on a bad night, but when I'm in Asbury Park next, I doubt I'll be checking again to find out.
