Disappointing. Son in law wanted to take us out for Sunday pasta dinner. Spent over $100 for 3 people ordering basic standard Italian meals, and left 2/3 of it there.
The restaurant itself, has a nice look. crisp white table cloths, linen like napkins, nice decor. We were seated in the back of the restaurant. We had a young toddler with us and I get it. I don't want to sit next to anybody's baby either. The restaurant was empty when we arrived at 4:30.
The server was nice.
Ordered two appetizers, the crispy cheese and burrata cheese wiith prosciutto and arugula. Crispy cheese was basically mozzarella sticks in the shape of a triangle. They were ok, should have been warmer since the cheese inside was still kind of hard. Not much marinara dipping sauce with it either. The burrata was nice but the prosciutto was too fatty. The hard outside fat should have been trimmed before serving. It was also sliced way too thick and overall fatty as well.
I ordered "Chef Ed's 7 Layer Lasagna
$18.95, Italian cheese blend, classico meat sauce, ricotta, fresh basil", which on the current menu and stated the beef was Wagyu. There was a large chunk of lasagna served. It was too peppered up. There was no cheese in it that was identifiable. There was some kind of dark cheese like burnt item on top which could have been cheese of some kind, covered over with sauce.I rarely leave most my meal, but there was no reason to take it home with me. I will never understand why some chefs feel like they have to add an inordinate amount of pepper to any dish. As I wrote this review, three hours later, I am still burping it up.
Daughter ordered carbonara. It was a soupy, bright yellow mess of bland. It had an overriding flavor of peas. She didn't eat but maybe two forkfuls.
Son in law ordered fettuccine Alfredo, with no protein. It was a large bowl but the portion was surprisingly small, compared to the giant chunk of lasagne and the quantity of pasta in the carbonara, it wasn't close. That dish too, just didn't look like a basic plate of Alfredo. It was thin and scant.
The complimentary "focaccia" that we had to ask for on request, too, was not like regular focaccia. It looked more like a loaf bread than the normal thinner focaccia. The taste was meh and the tiny cup of olive oil with rosemary and an amount of other spices didn't help much. We all tried a piece, and the rest of it was left untouched.
There's a whole other dynamic going on here as well. My son-in-law took me for a Sunday dinner hoping to have a nice meal. I felt bad not wanting to eat what was in front of me, nor complain to the waitstaff and send it back. My daughter, also didn't eat her meal. So overall what should've been a nice family dinner out became an awkward situation,
Now, one last thing said: I usually do not write such lengthy, nor critical reviews. And I'll issue an apology if I've offended anyone,
