Pasta & Co. - Review - University District - Seattle - The Infatuation

"At this almost painfully average takeout deli, go ahead and ignore the pasta completely. Instead, capitalize on the “& Co,” meaning refrigerator case-bound sandwiches way better than they have any right to be. That includes tender sliced steak with jack cheese and garlic aioli, or herb-rubbed roasted chicken with chevre on springy focaccia. And seeing as U-Village is a bit of a sandwich desert, desperation makes them even tastier." - Aimee Rizzo

Very delicious focaccia pesto sandwich. I think i'm in love...? (make sure to get it toasted)

Stopped by for lunch while strolling in the university village. The cafe is cute and homey. It’s a deli where you can pick from the prepared foods, they sell by weight. Also, this place carries some grocery items as well. The staff is super nice and friendly. The service here was impeccable but I am not very impressed by the flavors. Also, I felt that this place is a bit pricey. I probably will pop in if I am in the university village and need some lunch.

Update April 2024: Still my go-to for healthy picnic or no-cook fast delicious meals!! The best home cooked meals I never have made! 😆 🤣 Seriously, their pastas, salads, and entrees are so tasty and healthy. If I want to impress a date, I buy dinner there and pair with my favorite wine or Champagne. If I'm hungry but don't want to fuss with sitting in a restaurant, I get take out from Pasta & Co! Basically, if I don't want to cook, I just get a week's worth of food from them. The lines always move quickly, and the staff is always helpful, patient, yet efficient!

I walked in on a whim, and so glad i did. Overwhelmed by delicious choices Lauren asked if there was anything i wanted to try. That made all the difference!!! I bought everything I tried, along with her two suggestions. The turkey meatballs were excellent !!!! My Italian grandmother used to make them and she would have loved them! The turkey meatloaf, wonderful, the soft ginger cookie, YUM, the torpedo baguettes were divine as well. Lauren was a delight and personable and so so helpful, and knowledgeable. I am going back and the meatballs are going to be a weekly treat! Go and enjoy!!!

I thoroughly enjoy their beef wagyu sandwich! Highly recommended, if eating In house get it toasted!

Wow this was expensive for nothing. Got the turkey sandwich. No bigger than a bagel, $12. Insane they charge this much for so little.

Yelp
Good grief how did Pasta & Co escape a review since I've patronized this UVillage spot since the 1980s?! Definitely preYelp. Anyways, I own the Pasta & Co cookbooks. Love the pantry, culinary, and deli style food items, especially the pasta salads. I stopped in for a half pint each of my pasta salad faves, House Salad and penne pasta with red peppers, spinach, parmesan & smoked mozzarella (10/1/24). It was pleasant to sit in the adjacent courtyard and enjoy a few nibbles. Consistent flavors and textures, delicious! Great stop for a quick bite, takeout for picnics or potluck, meal timesaver, or just because.

Yelp
Walked in to buy some cheese and crackers and drinks and waited at the checkout area for about 15 minutes while the snobby girls behind the deli counter waited on people in line and refused to make eye contact or ring us up. There was no reason to get in line. Finally gave up after being ignored by several people ringing up others. Been going here for 20 years and never treated this way.

Yelp
A homey deli selling prepared foods, priced by weight. I stopped by for a to-go lunch when I was walking around U-Village, and this spot was an interesting premise with an OK execution! It's a cute spot and the staff are super friendly and helping when making recommendations. I'm always a little skeptical of places that have food out under heat lamps, so I'd maybe just go a bit earlier in the day for the fresher options. I got the house pasta and it just felt a little too heavy for me personally, but some of the other options looked really good. I also got the kale salad, which was unfortunately drenched in dressing so I didn't end up finishing it. That being said, I would maybe come back to try something else since the price was super affordable!

Yelp
This was my first time at Pasta & Co and I really enjoyed my first experience. This place is located at the University Village and there's plenty of parking. They have two parking structures and there is a huge parking lot as well. Pasta & Co is very similar to a deli section at a super market. However I feel like the food here is more of things I would eat. They have a good variety of meat, veggies and carbs. They also have a microwave in case you want them to heat things up and eat there. They have a few seats along the outside of the wall where you can grab a quick bite if you don't feel like eating a heavy meal or dig in. The way that they charge is by the pound, but the pound is affected by the container size. They have different size containers to match your appetite. They have small, medium, and large. By ordering a bunch of small dishes, this allowed me to try different items. There are a few things I would proceed with caution about ordering that is about the meat dishes. Most of the time when you heat up meat, it gets dry. Some of the meat dishes do not have any sauce so if you heat it up, it could be dry. Pricing isn't the most affordable as I would say it's a bit more than a normal super market deli. Since this place is more of a grab and go, there's not much service. Overall, the food is good in general. Would recommend giving it a try!

Yelp
I love the idea of this place but in my opinion the pasta salads are very OK. The ambiance and service is great, but the food is disappointing so I will likely not be back unless it's to try the hot meals.

Yelp
This place is still going strong after many decades. I used to eat at the 4th Ave DT location everyday!! Their Pasta Con salad still tastes great with high quality salami. Grabbed it with a fresh Demi baguette, pad of butter and ate it at one of the outdoor tables. They still have the shrimp dill yellow rice salad too. Focaccia too. Did not see their awesome Asian capellini salad. Lots of choices to try or take home. Stop by the U Village location & try it!

Yelp
Cute cafe with a lot of to-go items. There is some seating inside (as well as plenty of spots outside) if you want to eat there. I'm a huge fan of their frozen foods and always get a few frozen items to have on hand for family dinners--my favorites are their chicken pot pie, stuffed pasta shells, and lasagna. It can be pricey but worth it for a treat!

Yelp
They went above and beyond! I have ordered holiday dinners from Pasta & Co for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I realized on Wednesday night that they had accidentally forgotten the turkey from the order I picked up curbside. I emailed the company and Nancy, the store manager, arranged for a turkey AND extra goodies (steaks and cheeses) to be personally dropped off at my home on Thanksgiving morning, by Rob, their VP. They were so kind and had the best customer service. The food was also incredible. Every bite was delicious. I highly recommend Pasta & Co at UVillage. Thank you Nancy and Rob for saving Thanksgiving!

Yelp
Soooooooo good! This place is amazing all of their pastas are delicious! The shrimp are fresh! I tried a few of their salads and let's just say TRY THEM ALL! they do reheat this well! I am going to buy the cook book it is sooo good! The sell by the pound but it is so worth it! I'm from Cali so I don't have this near! Please expand! I will be dreaming of the pasta every day now!

Yelp

Yelp
Good stuff in a great location. Eat here and take some home for later.

Yelp
TLDR: expensive deli. Nice place to try out once. Service: order at the deli case, pay by weight, seat yourself if dining in, bus your own table (trash and bins to right of exit under the water dispenser). You can ask to have the food heated up prior to consumption. No real menu. Each item in the deli case has a name and ingredients. There are also coolers alongside the walls containing ToGo meals and boxed dinners. There's also a drink cooler. They have free samples laying about. I liked the caramel corn. This place is a good place to stop by once just for the experience in my opinion. The food isn't that great considering it's sitting in a cooler and gets warmed up in the microwave when you buy it. House Pasta: slight tang and with the spices. Nothing too special. I wish there were veggies and/or meat in it. It's just pasta, spices, and cheese shreds. Lemon Risotto Cake: looks way better than it tastes. Not crunchy at all and just dense, cold and clumpy. Not really sour either. Turkey Meatballs: the only part of my dish that actually triggered my taste buds. The meatballs were slightly juicy and were nicely salted and had a hint of garlic.

Yelp
Came here for lunch today and walked out feeling sick after devouring their famous coconut cake that I couldn't stop eating. I started out with good intentions for a healthy meal and ordered the classic Caesar kale with the chicken Florentine and a rosemary bread roll. But then I saw the coconut cake on the counter and ordered a slice to go. I took one bite of the coconut cake that was in my to-go box and I ended up eating the entire cake before leaving. I seriously felt sick after, but it was so good and totally worth paying $10 for a tiny slice lol. Ok, it's a little overpriced for a slice of cake, but it was really delicious.

Yelp
Yum! Everything we had was delicious! And we have quite the variety of picky eaters in our family of 6.

Yelp
My all time favorite deil. I love love love this place. I love everything in there. The sandwich are super yummy mostly the panini's but make sure to get there early; they run out fast. Also take a bottle of caesar dress and a pint of the chipotle sauces it's great on sandwich and paninis for home! You will not be disappointed!!

Yelp
Everything is amazing....but don't come here if you're looking for specials or two for one deals. You will spend plenty coins if you let your eyes and stomach be the guide. I learned that lesson the hard way. I got about seven things from their deli (just a little of everything) and when I got my total it was $60. The food was delicious but next time I'll put a budget cap. Some of my absolute favorites were the turkey meatballs, their house pasta and the coconut cake. They hands down have the best coconut cake I've ever had - so light and fluffy. I'm definitely coming back.

Yelp
Delicious veg enchiladas! Served them for book club and everyone loved them. Can't wait to try them again

Rebecca S.

Yelp
I've been here a few times and usually it's okay. Today my hot meal was completely cold. There's often temperature issues, which is frustrating for $15-20 a meal. I'd definitely recommend going elsewhere in the U Village, many more food options that are just as fast and easy but without quality issues.

Yelp
Pasta & CO is absolutely amazing. Been long time customer and have enjoyed many of the pasta salad's they serve and some they don't serve anymore. Nothing is better then showing up and grabbing something to go along with your porterhouse steak. Some of my favorites are the: House Pasta Grilled Prawns Chinese Vermicelli Pasta Con Salame French Roasted Chicken Favorites no longer sold: Cupcakes w/cream cheese filling Pork Chop Salad Why on earth would anybody not wanna purchase food from Pasta & CO?
google avatar

Elizabeth L.

Yelp
Pricey upscale to go cafe featuring quality ingredients and variety of house pastas, salads and other to go items. Got the prosciutto baguette and caprese baguette to go and was thoroughly underwhelmed by both, entirely bland and uninspired. Given the price, disappointing for $10.95 sandwiches. Will head to Homegrown next time I'm need of a sammie to go while at U Village.
google avatar

Chris J.

Yelp
I go broke here all the time. They have a classic Pasta Con Salame that is like no other.

Yelp
I will stick to the good pasta dishes! Bought a cookie for first time. Oat based?.....TOO MUCH SUGAR! As in too much. And I am not finicky about sweet stuff but this was TOO much. A 1/4 of what they used may have still been too much. Really.
google avatar

Aimee T.

Yelp
Overall underwhelmed. The food comes in pretty good portions for the price, but I needed to add a lot to overcome the blandness of a lot of items. The chicken marsala meatballs (while HUGE) had a really thin and flavorless sauce, and the risotto cakes were better the next day after sitting. The Mac n cheese was good, but definitely needed salt. The house macaroni/pasta salad was divine, as was the frozen lasagna. I really enjoyed the grilled apricot chicken, but again a thin sauce that had flavor but just barely existed (added my own apricot jelly sauce). It feels more like a bunch of components to MAKE a dinner than a dinner itself. There are sauces you can buy but I didn't think I would have needed to do that. Interested in some of the frozen items I saw in store, and would definitely grab another cardamom cookie if we go back.

Yelp
I've always loved pasta & co every since I was a kid. It was my favorite place. Great pasta salads! My recommendations - chinese vermicelli (debatably the best thing on their menu), pasta pesto, black eyed pea & kale salad, and don't forget to buy the garlic tomato sauce for making pasta at home (SO FRIGGIN GOOD - A STAPLE, recommend freezing until use) 10/10 recommend. I always stop in when I'm close by

Yelp
Great locally owned deli with fresh and unique flavors to please every palette. The food is expensive for what you are getting. However...it is always delicious. Be sure to sample what you intend to purchase (the flavors tend to be sharp and sometimes there is a pop of something unexpected). The Flagship Tomato Soup is absolutely divine. I am a tomato soup fiend...this is some of the best in the city. It is made with Beecher's Flagship cheese (a Seattle staple for those who are unfamiliar). There are a few tables and the deli is clean and peaceful. Do your shopping. Get your step count up in the rain. And stop in for a bowl of some piping hot heaven.

Yelp
I'm in love/hate with Pasta and Company. FIrst off, on the side of love, Pasta and Co. has a good deli counter with a fresh, gourmet selection of fresh salads, meats and pasta salads that you can make a relatively easy, picnic-inside kind of lunch. Favorites include their tomato soup with toasted garlic croutons, spinach chicken salad, spicy pasta salads, and Beecher's cheese infused turkey meatloaf w/their house marinara sauce on the side. Nom. The meatloaf here is good --there is no need to fear meatloaf! We also love that they leave out lots of fun samples, including dessert and sell all manor of fun but pricey nibbles, with the advantage that you can taste samples & get inspired before you commit. But, there are some cons. Many prepackaged items consistently sell for more at this mall location. Add in the cost of real estate, okay, this probably makes sense but i'm genetically predisposed to avoid higher prices for an identical packaged product. What is less excusable, and kind of a big deal for us, is spotty customer service. Generally you'll get a good employee with a friendly attitude, but pretty consistently, we've encountered an annoyed or impatient attitude from behind the counter at this location. Maybe the lunch rush is stressful? Customer service training may be needed and helpful. While we all have a bad day, eye rolling and snark are not things you want, along with your picnic lunch. It's good customer service, a campaign of"anti-snark" if you will, that keeps your customers happily coming back.

Yelp
I walked in and found all kinds of pasta deli options, tasty looking desserts (tried a sample of something amazing made with coconut), wine, and other food items. There was some seating inside, but it was a nice day so the outdoor tables were a lot more inviting. The employees were cheerful and seemed nice, but perhaps asked if we were ready a little too frequently and too many times. The tortellini and the turkey meatball I had were okay.... they weren't anything amazing and would probably have tasted way better if they were warm or hot. My friend is in love with their house pasta, which is pretty tasty... but I guess I just have a hard time getting excited about spending $8 to get half a pound of cold/pre-made pasta with a couple of cold meatballs. Over-all.... it was fine, but I was pretty underwhelmed by the experience. If I go back, I'll probably skip everything else and go straight for dessert!

Jacob P.

Yelp
Very well put together place with an inviting atmosphere. Be warned about prices, very expensive for what you receive. Pasta looks good but the taste is subpar.
google avatar

Kamie K.

Yelp
This is sort of the west coast version of Dean and Deluca. A great selection of gourmet foods, salads, desserts and gifts. Recipes that I love include the Beecher's "World's Best" Mac & Cheese and their amazing chocolate cupcakes. The buyer for this store definitely knows what she is doing. Drop by this prepared food boutique if you want a fabulous meal in minutes. It's a bit pricey but, hey, they did all the work for you!
google avatar

Yelp
I was familiar with the Bellevue location of Pasta & Co, but this was our first time trying the University Village restaurant. I'm happy to say that the food was just as great here! I love the 'jade and ivory' pasta salad and the grilled veggies. The salmon and baby potatoes were amazing too. The food here reliably tastes clean and healthy. The array of choices are always fun and refreshing.
google avatar

Lisa M.

Yelp
The food was pretty good but very pricey for the proportions I got. Besides from snacks, this was the only main meal I ate and the next day I ended up getting a bad stomach ache. I don't want to blame the restaurant but this is the 2nd time I've fallen sick from food in U-Village. I hope this isn't the case in the future. Would recommend coming here in general but I don't know if me getting sick was a coincidence. But yeah, good food and friendly people.
google avatar

Yelp
Shopping at U Village...we stopped in at Pasta & Co for light deli salads which were perfect. We didn't want to be too full to shop but just enough to keep going. We shared two small salads: Flagship...Penne pasta with smoked mozarella, roasted red pepper, parmesan, spinach in a mayo/oil/vinegar dressing. Perfect! Delicious! The texture was amazing..and the consistency was great. I would have eaten the whole thing..except we were sharing one more salad!.... Celery Root, & Pear salad was a tangy combo of hazelnuts, onion, in a lemon aoili. Super flavors combined into a crunchy combo. Perfect amount of food on a rainy window shopping day. Will be back for take home food!
google avatar

Kaycie D.

Yelp
Not only was the service awesome but I had the Kale Caesar Salad with Shrimp and I can 100 percent say it was the BEST salad I have ever had. The dressing blew my mind. AMAZING. We also had the Stromboli and it was so flavorful. Hoghly recommend this place.

Yelp
Pasta is good. Just overpriced!!!! I bought half a pint of shrimp, and a pint of pasta, and paid nearly $40!!!!!

Ryan S.

Yelp
Yes....again. I started cooking using pasta & co pasta and sauce. Loved the place when Marcella started it and grew it. But crap...., I dont blame the family, they sold to Blechers Cheese Co.... The place is shit now.....just over cheesed crap provided by the new owner. Honestly.....go and try and find fresh pasta. Good luck if it does not include a pound of their crap cheese. I just want fresh pasta....nope...dont think the sell anymore. Just fatty cheese take away....

Yelp
The food here is spectacular! The prices can be a little steep, but that is due to quality ingredients and wonderful recipes. I've been a few times and each time the employees are very helpful and quick to answer any questions. Try anything and everything! If you want, you can take home Beecher's Mac and Cheese to make at home, which is conveniant.

Jules S.

Yelp
I used to love this place a decade or so ago when I lived nearby. I remember the most amazing freshly made ravioli stuffed with roasted vegetables or italian sausage. So when I was at UVillage again recently, I stopped in on a whim to take home some of those amazing ravioli. I was happy to see they still carried the same flavors and more. I bought 1/3 lb each of roasted vegetable, mushroom, and butternut squash. Oh, they sounded amazing! But, sadly, when it came time for dinner, I found the pasta thick and the fillings slim and uninteresting. Except for the butternut which was pretty good, I couldn't even tell what they were stuffed with. Paid $15-18/lb and might as well have bought packaged ravioli from the grocery store. So sad...

Yelp
Pasta & Co is like a glorified, pricier version of the QFC deli (pls don't hurt me). But really, everything is cold and sold by the pound. While the food is good, it's not outstanding. I tried the house pasta and added chicken to fill up a small to-go container. This cost me almost $10-- quite pricy for the amount I got! The pasta had a nice light cheesy lemon-y sauce but was cooked a little too much on the harder side of al dente. I ate some cold, then took it home and microwaved it and it wasn't any better. Actually, this pasta is probably best eaten cold. The chicken was super flavorful, almost overseasoned, but a nice addition to the pasta nonetheless! I tasted their pesto this past weekend at the Yelp Elite Event at Room and Board and was pretty underwhelmed. I've walked in and out of this place on three separate occasions. I crave pasta all the time but none of the options ever really stand out to me. If you're in the area and wanting pasta, I would go to Piatti instead!
google avatar

Ross W.

Yelp
We tried Ginger Chicken Cabbage Salad, penne with smoky flavor and some faro dish. They all taste good, and you can tell the freshness. The price is a bit high in my opinion.
google avatar

Sally C.

Yelp
Came by to pick up a quick dinner before rushing to work and sampled their house pasta. It was amazing! For something tossed in a sauce of cheese, crunchy breadcrumbs, heavy cream, and lemon, it was deliciously light and perfect for the warm day. I threw in some chicken and called it good. Chicken was decent, but it's the house pasta I'm coming back for! Everything savory is sold by weight, so you can get as much or as little as you want. Sweets can be purchased by slice or by entire cake. They have entrees, soups, pastas, salads, and desserts.
google avatar

Autumn B.

Yelp
Overrated. A piece of lukewarm lasagna that was warmed up in a microwave shouldn't be $13.

Sara R.

Yelp
To be perfectly honest I don't like leaving reviews on food because food reviews are subjective. A long time ago I learned you can't please everyone. Today I stopped at this store which I have passed dozens of times because I really need some dessert quickly for some unexpected guests. I was in U Village and it was convenient. Two 4" cakes $13.95 each and two slices from a brand new 10" or 12" chocolate cake. $7.95 each slice and a tip on the whole total brought the sale to just under $50.00. My problem is not about the tip those girls should be payed a fair wage. My opinion - Do NOT buy cake here. The coconut cake was over air rated, the batter was whipped too long and so it had no texture. It wasn't as if the cake was trying to be a French gateau. It was just a weak textured cake. The crumb was tight, not an airy sponge either. There was no coconut taste to the cake at all. The filling was a lemony kind of filling that had an aftertaste that tasted like it was spoiled. The coconut icing tasted like plain white icing with coconut shreds. At $13.95 it seemed a reasonable price for a 4" coconut cake in a location with crazy high rents so I went for it. I was completely disappointed in the flavors and the texture. The only positive was the cake was not dry. Two slices of chocolate cake from a brand new cake - first cuts - DRY and over baked. That's what oven timers are for. I would think that an establishment such as this would let their bakers know to under bake a little for shelf life. Not that a new cake should need shelf life. The chocolate icing had a creamy texture and tasted very similar to the icing you but in the supermarket ready to spread. I gave the carrot cake to someone to take home so I don't know how that was. Again, I don't like to leave reviews on food at all because food is the most subjective of anything you one can possibly review. Besides that the employees were sweet and very helpful. For a company this large, my suggestion - either get a really good pastry chef who knows what they are doing or get a chef trainer to teach your bakers to taste the product they make and give honest feedback to improve the desserts. Spend some time paneling your recipes. There are recipes all over the internet which would be better than these two cakes. Just because a dessert is sweet it doesn't give it value. Desserts, especially when in petite sizes should burst with flavor and freshness. Just my opinion.

Yelp
Elizabeth is so incredibly pleasant and I find myself coming in more often to visit and a snack. She makes me feel very special and she is quick and always working so hard. I'm thankful for her and the lemon thyme chicken

Yelp
Nice little cafe to pick up some healthy cold pasta dishes and salads if you're looking to eat healthy. Quite expensive.... but it is quality food and is actually really delicious. I wouldn't recommend coming here to look for any main course meals however. You'll end up spending well over 10 bucks just to feed yourself...like I did when I picked up 14 dollars in shrimp pasta to eat as a meal and wasn't anywhere near full. Then again I am a major fatass.....I think the purpose of this deli is to pick up a bulk amount of their pastas as side dishes to take home. And like I said before, it is actually pretty good....They have a pesto and sun dried tomato pasta that's also one of my favorites. Be sure to try one of their desserts on your way out.

Yelp
Good food with great ingredients and a huge selection. However, it is very pricey and expensive. We got a turkey sandwich and a caprese sandwich, both almost $11 each. They weren't even that big or came with sides. However, it was really good and all the ingredients were fresh and came well together. We also got the mozzarella pasta salad with was also very good, but also expensive. I think got was $14 a pound. Definitely would come back here to try more things, but would not come as often.

Yelp
Their fresh deli items are so delicious! Seasonal, gourmet, and high quality is how I would describe their products. Their frozen food is excellent too (stuffed shells yummmm). I've been coming for years and I've always had great luck with their prepared food and kitchen whatnots...spices, sauces, etc. Staff is super friendly/helpful so ask away if you're pulling a meal together. I treasure my pasta and co. cookbooks too. I have 3 of them. A lot of their deli items are also in their cookbooks if you'd like to make them at home. Or if you have limited time, they have everything you need to make a semi-homemade dinner at home. Perfect dinner = fresh pasta, matriacina sauce (recipe is also in the book), and their herbed breadsticks. Easy peasy! Almost forgot, their cupcakes are ridiculously good too! Love to support this local Seattle business! There's a reason they've been around forever.

Yelp
Honestly, I'm in mixed emotions with Pasta & Co. On the one hand, every food item I've tried here has been delicious and you can sample most everything. I try to stop here whenever I find myself in the area. We've tried a few of their make at home items - the chicken pot pie, baked tortellini, the berry and peach crumble - and they're all pretty good. The tortellini is a little dry but the flavors are spot on and I'd eat the chicken pot pie pretty much any day of my life. Or every day! I'm also a pretty big fan of their caesar dressing. If it had its own page, I'd like the heck out of it. Other yummy notes: fresh ravioli and flavorful sauces. On the other hand, I've had blah experiences with most of the staff. They're mostly standoffish bordering on rude. I've been here 5 or 6 times and had many awkward encounters, so I feel comfortable saying that's the norm attitude here. I'll keep coming here because I love their food, but they'd benefit from training their staff on how to talk to customers without sounding like it's an inconvenience for them.

Yelp
The service was so helpful. A young woman helped me pick a salad and made sure I had everything I needed for a successful lunch on the go. I got the jeweled kale and it was light, fresh, and quite tasty. I would definitely go back for that, the Rosemary roll was great as well. Another great thing was they had lots of samples to help me figure out what I wanted. I will return soon for the great service and food! The only thing missing was a place to sit. There is tables outside but with multiple other food places nearby these were pretty crowded.
