We always got our fresh pasta from Matteo's. I didn't realize they moved to NJ so I was extremely sad to hear that and texting others that still live to try to find another great, fresh pasta grocer and that's when someone recommended Pastificio and boy am I glad they did!
First of all, their hours are WAY better than Matteo's! They were open until 9:00 pm on a Friday night which made it easier on us because we didn't have to rush around and we were able to easily avoid traffic by going a little later.
They are located next to Chickie's and Pete's so the parking is much easier than trying to find a tiny street spot. Now, that's not to say it's easy...just easier. It depends on the day, the time of day and whether there's a game. In our case it was a Friday around 6:30 so Chickie's was mobbed, as was the parking lot but we found a spot relatively quickly.
The first woman that helped us was an older woman and she was not warm and fuzzy, nor did she make us feel welcomed or helped. I asked if they had a list of their fresh pastas (since there was no sign and they were in a fridge behind the counter). She said no, but there's all of the usual stuff and started rattling off pasta. I basically knew what I wanted but since it was our first time here, I did want to see all of my choices. We asked her another question and she gave more attitude. We wound up getting passed off to a younger girl and I was thrilled about that because she was kind and helpful and offered good customer service. Turns out there was a list of fresh pasta in their paper menu.
We got two, one pound, fresh mozzarella braids which were $10 each. She recommended we get hem salted which we did and they were delicious!
The fresh pasta was amazing!!! We got gnocchi and fresh ravioli. I'm never a huge ravioli fan. I like them but typically prefer gnocchis. Well, these Ravis were a game changer! They were sooooo good. The gnocchis were good too but I would definitely itely go with the ravioli over the gnocchi. Yum!
We got fresh provolone cut into chunks. The chunks were pretty large and the cheese was verrrry sharp! It was great! Also got small pepperoni rounds. They were also good!
Spent about 70 bucks for those cheeses and pepperoni, three dozen ravioli and three pounds of gnocchi.
It smelled really good inside and was a relatively large space. They also make sandwiches. We thought about bringing some home for dinner that night but ultimately didn't. We will be returning for sandwiches AND pasta in the future, though! So good! Highly recommend this place! Super glad it was recommended to me!
