Where to Eat and Drink in and Around Penn Station

"Since 1956, this kosher deli has been slinging great pastrami sandwiches, and now there’s a branch in the Moynihan Food Hall. The rye is compact, the brisket variations (pastrami, corned beef, roast brisket) moist and thin-sliced. Other deli items available include miniature potato pancakes, pigs in blankets, hot dogs, and knishes." - Robert Sietsema, Eater Staff

I write this to you, my dear reader, from the marbled floor in the middle of Moynihan Train station. I had intense deliberation with myself for 10 minutes about where to eat my meal before my train to Boston. “I should just get Chopt, it's healthy… Well, ramen does sound BOMB and I’ve been working hard lately… But a good pastrami sandwich…” Pastrami Queen won the day, as I had such a vivid picture of a Katz Deli Pastrami on Rye in my head. That turned out to be the issue, my expectations of a Katz Sandwich had Pastrami Queen fall flat on its face. Much smaller portion size, and just obviously not the same. High expectations get me into trouble in seemingly every aspect of life… solid sandwich though if you came in with no expectations. The pigs in a blanket slapped too. Funny enough, "Pigs in a Blanket" was my nickname in high school lol. They just called me "PIB" for short. IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov__

Pastrami Queen definitely hits the spot when you are craving a quick, kosher sandwich. They have delectable varieties and everything I got there is fantastic—a pastrami sandwich with mustard and a pickle! The prices are adequate for NYC, and absolutely worth it for the high-quality food you receive!

Just passing by after cycling 115 miles and was browsing the menu. Enticed by $8.95 poster for pastrami & egg on a bagel. Just had dim sum but the gentleman at counter offered to let me sample a slice.🙏🏻 I have to say the pastrami is outstanding 🥇. Moist texture with plenty of flavor. Some of the best I have tasted. So I placed an order. Somehow I did NOT get the bagel with egg. Instead, 3 thin slices of pastrami came with large potato knish. Both were delicious. However, I’m disappointed I only received 3 thin slices of pastrami which is the equivalent of 1 cut of pastrami at Katz’s. Probably need to bring a scale in the future for comparison. I mean, I saved $19 but likely received 1/8 of the meat portion. VERY FRUGAL! I hope the owner sees this from a native New Yorker and makes improvements. I would like to visit the other 2 locations but so far not motivated to go by the reviews I have read. The food & service is excellent but the portion is minuscule 😅😅.

Good place to go when trapped in the rain waiting for a train. Got a pastrami on seedless rye. Almost like white bread. Lots of pastrami but a little fatty. Ok fries. Not Katz's or Sarge's but totally acceptable for the train station.

Great pastrami, though a little tough. Potato knish filling needs to be seasoned more, otherwise perfect. Fries were amazing- even when they were a cold snack on the LIRR. Best part was ordering it in Peekskill on the train and having it warm and ready when we arrived in NYC!

Bought a pastrami sandwich and tuna sandwich, both were very good. Needed quick to-go meal before jumping on Amtrak and this was certainly quick service. Pastrami comes with nothing on it (not even mustard). The tuna was well-made, and came with lettuce and tomato. Would grab a sandwich there again.

Let me set the record straight on Pastrami Queen outpost in Moynihan Train Hall. I think some of these other reviews are misguided or misleading. -Service was great and friendly. This is New York F***'in City 🤣 so things may be a little more fast and busy than some tourists might be used to, but as an experienced New York City visitor, I found the girl who took my order was very helpful and friendly. - The pastrami on rye was great. The bread was moist and fresh, the pastrami has a great spice and was very lean (I didn't even order extra lean, don't need it), a good amount of meat for the price, and it comes with a nice juicy pickle. - The chicken matzoh ball soup was the star, flavorful with lots of noodles and the matzoh ball was a perfect texture. It came out super hot and fresh. - The price is a good value for New York City. Everything is generally expensive here. The giant stuffed sandwich from that other big name place costs twice as much, FYI. The soup was full to the top and the sandwich did not skimp on the meat at all.

I ordered the pastrami and egg on a bagel and it truly was nothing more than one egg and one slice of pastrami on a super thin bagel. It was probably made hours ago and reheated when I ordered it. Everything was super chewy and rubbery, it had no taste at all. Really disappointed with this place ☹️
