I will admit that I have no experience with Colombian food, but if this place is truly authentic and representative of Colombian food, then it's safe to say that Colombian food is tasty. Located near the Tamiami Executive Airport, as well as the West Kendall Lexus and Toyota dealership, I came here due to its convenience to the service department, while I was getting maintenance on my vehicle. As someone else mentioned, being greeted upon arrival took quite some time. My friend and I stood around waiting for someone to approach us. The place was full, and I guess the service suffered somewhat, due to that.
Finally, we were seated and scanned the menu. I was not in the mood for a patacon, despite being the restaurant's namesake, and opted for something else, as did my friend. I ordered the Pollo Criollo, while he got the Bistec a Caballo (and no, it's not horse meat, as you may think). These dishes came with a side salad, maduros, and white rice. Although our waiter was nice, he wasn't too attentive, but it's not due to sitting around or chatting. He was overwhelmed and was speed walking from table to table, even jogging at times.
We both enjoyed our meal. It was well-seasoned, tasty, and not too heavy. At the same time, it was filling. I loved the pikliz-like relish on the table (sorry, I know the Haitian name for it, but not the Colombian name for it), and put it all over my meal to make it super spicy. My chicken was moist, tender, and tasty, but I just love spicy food and if hot sauce is available, I will make use for it. You may opt to not use the pikliz and may find it too hot for your taste.
Unfortunately, getting refills on our drinks was something that required patience. Getting the bill at the end of our meal was even worse. I think we waited 10 minutes, though we felt bad for the waiter being made to run around like that -- I even think I saw sweat beading up on his face from this workout. Considering how busy this place gets, I feel they ought to hire more wait staff.
I don't know if they just happened to be short-staffed that day, but my friend and I were in a rush to get to the Wings Over Miami Museum and we lost a lot of time here. Though we both enjoyed our meal (and I'd love to try the patacon next time), if the service is going to be that slow, it may prevent us from coming, as we like to eat and then move on to our plans without spending all afternoon being held up at a restaurant. This is the reason I opted for a 3-star rating, versus a 4-star rating.
