Patent Coffee

Patent Coffee is exceptional. Their infusions are made from whole ingredients, are minimally processed, and incredibly delicious! The unassuming space is subterranean so look for the sandwich board outside. I have enjoyed a vanilla fig oat latte twice now. Looking forward to trying other flavors.

This used to be my favorite coffee shop, but I’m posting this because no one picks up the phone. I’ve come by to this place around 9 AM multiple times and it’s always closed and locked. Please correct your opening hours if you’re not actually going to be open at 8:30 AM. Or pick up your phone, Please.

Ok, if you are a person who loves hot sauce, puts tabasco and sriracha on everything you must must must try the spicy boy coffee. It was so good. Been wishing for it everyday since. This place doubles as a bar in the back, I look forward to trying that next.

Great small coffee shop with friendly staff. There is a small set of stairs to go down to get access into the shop. Coffee was delightful and as a bonus I was able to use my mug! This was right down the street from the Chelsea flea market so location was convenient as well.

Probably the best coffee we have had in the city. So happy we discovered this place after brunch at the Smith’s. I found it on google maps. I like the bunker style shop. Simple but aesthetically pleasing. The best thing about this shop is the barista and the coffee he made. I asked for a recommendation, and was asked about my preferences. Finally decided on the rosemary latte and it was awesome 👏 I enjoyed talking to the barista about flat whites and the technicalities of coffee. So sad we weren’t able to come back for another cuppa! And I forgot his name! But he is awesome!

Was happy to discover this compact, hip coffee shop just two blocks away from my hotel (the Moxy Chelsea). Was even happier to find out they’re one of few places in town already serving CBD-infused coffee. Had the cold brew and it didn’t disappoint - there was a slight kick to it, but the flavor overall was balanced.

Good coffee but not a place to hang out. It's a small space. They don't offer ceramic cups for your espresso, which was a bummer. But they have very fun drinks like a spycyboi, which my +1 enjoyed. We took our drinks to the park across the street and sat to enjoy them. Got a peek at the "secret" bar and hope to check that out on my next visit to the city.

I was looking for a new coffee shop to try out before my flight in New York, so I stumbled upon Patent Coffee in the area. I wasn't sure what to expect, so I was pleasantly surprised when I was greeted by a small, but cute, storefront. There isn't much seating (maybe 4 stools), so this may be more of a grab-and-go kind of coffee. Either way, I was happy to see that there were plenty of unique flavor options that were offered. I asked for the Fig/Vanilla latte, but was told they were out of vanilla syrup -- no big deal though! The barista was kind and they were able to make me just a Iced Fig Latte; I liked my drink and thought the flavor went well with the espresso and it wasn't too overbearing or strong. I would definitely come back here to try some of the other drinks (I'm seeing really good things about the rosemary latte)

Tried to use the check in offer for a cookie 8.20 but the girl working was dismissive and talked about her hate for working here.. coffee is good though!

Coffee coffee coffee. Cute small shop, reminds me of something you'd see in a movie about California. Love the vibes. Peaceful spot to get some work done. Strong, great quality coffee and chai tea with some interesting and delicious seasonal flavors. Highly recommend.

Best latte I've had in a while. Got the rosemary latte that the barista recommended. Super friendly guy. Great convo while I waited for him to make it. They apparently make all the syrups in house which is a plus. And when a spot has this ice. You already know it's gonna be a good latte.

Superb coffee. Excellent location. Excellent service. Coffee that makes you feel happy. Coffee that lets you know it likes you. How it should be.

Who plays, friendly staff. Definitely a nice little set up inside. I'm judging the coffee experience based on the flat white only. I didn't find the flavor profile very appealing. Part of that being preference since it was a little darker roasted than I like, but aside from that the coffee didn't have a great taste.

Probably my favorite coffee shop in the city!!! The rosemary oat is a gem, and any plain latte. I need to try more of the menu because I just know it's all great!

It's my first time saw this coffee shop after working out. Great, definitely I wanted to try some new things out. I came in around 3:50pm and got the rosemary latte which seems pretty popular. But it seems they are about to close so the staff was quite unhappy to see me coming in and gave me some bad attitude. The drink was not even my type of drink. It's not worth to experience what I have experienced just to get this rosemary oat latte. Anyway, I wouldn't come back again.

Pretty good coffee but their hours are a disaster and the place is run poorly overall. I've gone countless times at 'opening' for no one to actually be there. What's worse is they updated the hours on yelp and google recently but still can't keep to them.

They have house made syrups and you can really tell!! The rosemary oat latte is SO good!! A fave in NYC. I definitely recommend!

I love this coffee shop. It's coffee shop by day and speakeasy by night, LOVE them both. They make a mean espresso and cold brew. Forever favorite coffee shop!

The espresso is delicious, and the "Spicyboy" stood by its name and was a throwback to a Cali-Mexican hot cocoa, superb! Also, Jonathan was so lovely and pleasant to connect with.

wonderful coffee - servers very helpful and accommodating. asked for nine drinks and they had it all down - and helped me bring the coffee to where I needed it.

It's a small coffee shop with little seating, so it's a quick grab and go place for some great drinks and pastries. I ordered the Chai today and it was great! Usually Chai can be too milky and sweet, but this one had a nice kick of spice to it. I also got a free check-in cookie. I would get it every time but definitely not good for me, even though the chocolate chip tastes amazing!

super cute little place that is so easy to miss ! I walked by it twice before realizing it's a little below street level. I got their spicy boy latte, and true to its name, it was v spicy. Definitely not my favorite coffee drink, but it was intriguing enough that I'm looking forward to giving their other drinks a shot sometime, especially ~ after hours ~ at patent pending.

I first noticed Patent Coffee several months ago and had a really great latte there- something interesting and sesame-flavored, a seasonal or signature drink. I'd have loved another sometime, except the place has been closed every time I've passed since. As another reviewer mentioned, it's basically never open during the posted business hours. The lights are on and the counters are stocked, but no one's home. Weird, unprofessional, and annoying.

The little coffee shop that could. Opening today with stellar machines and sweet treats by Pain D'Avignon and cookies by the senior food editor of Bon Appetit magazine.The smell of the coffee here is intoxicating. Can't wait to stop by for my morning brew en route to my office and some sweet treats. Hot and cold brews abound. P.S. Tried the cookies- thin, crispy and amazing!! #Epiccookies

Not open during posted hours of operation What a waste. Google says they're open, Apple Maps says there open, Yelp and their own website says they are but yet they're not. This is an un reliable business and not worth the time

We dropped in for a latte. What a pleasant surprise that we received a free cookie upon check in! I got the toffee oatmeal cookie and it was LITERALLY one of the best cookies I've ever had. The latte was great too. Not too strong but flavorful and not too sweet. Come for the coffee, stay for the cookies!

We stayed nearby, with a plethora of amazing coffee options. However, we came here 3x because: - earl grey latte: wow - excellent espresso - free cookie with check-in Pricing-wise, I was pleasantly surprised at how reasonable it was compared to SF or, heck, even Peet's.

I came in last minute for the Cappy hour ($2 cappuccino at 10:30am - noon). I believe the barista should be more attentive - she charged me regular price for the cappuccino at first, since she was not aware of the discount hours. I was looking forward to choosing from pastries by pain d'avignon, but it seemed like the cafe didn't have any today. Blueberry muffin was pretty good, but otherwise there were sad looking pale pastries.

This is a fantastic little coffee shop hidden away down a small flight of stairs. Inside there is not much room to sit and hang out, but there is a fantastic menu of coffee and espresso options and a little case of pastries. They normally run seasonal coffee specials, and right now it is the delicious cereal milk cappuccino. Their espresso is very smooth and subtle, which makes it a perfect accompaniment for a well made simple drink. I did try their toffee oatmeal walnut cookie and need to give it a shout out as well. It's small but worth every penny!

Ordered their butternut squash soup. It comes in a tiny 6 ounce cup, for which they charge a whopping $6.00. To top it off, their payment interface has a 20% tip by default and -clumsy me- I hit ok the second the barista swiveled the iPad to me to e-sign my receipt. Ended up paying $7.20 for the munchkin size cup of soup in the photo, not to mention it tasted like it had been stored in an old moldy antique trunk overnight.

I love this place! I came here on a whim, expecting to just get a black coffee because I needed caffeine, but was really tempted by their coco matcha on the menu. No regrets, it was absolutely delicious. Do you love coconut? What about matcha? Are you up for an iced drink? If so, look no further, the coco matcha is the drink for you! Outside of their delicious coco matcha, the service was what really stood out about this place. The man working here when I went was incredibly helpful, friendly, and knowledgable. I'd come back again while passing through the area and I recommend everyone reading this to check this place out!

I came here because the sign outside caught my eye. It said CBD coffee and since I love coffee. I just had to try it especially considering the sign said it has all of these positive health properties. I tried the CBD Cold Brew with Vanilla syrup as suggested by the cashier. It was tasty although I did not taste any vanilla it was definitely herb tasting. But I enjoyed it this unique tasting drink. I will be back to try some of there other drinks and pastries.

I love this place, the coffee is great, the baristas have a cool edgy look and vibe, and the place itself is unique. Just -1 because seating is so limited (it really is a grab-and-go type place). FYI, I paid +$2 for CBD oil in my latte and didn't exactly feel any sort of difference. In case anyone is curious...

The daytime coffee shop front of Patent Pending. It's a hidden gem that's easy to miss. The coffee here is excellent, and the service is always friendly and fast. It's very small, so it's more of a grab and go spot. There are some occasional fun coffee varieties such as s'mores lattes and some coconut/match concoction. There is also a small selection of baked goods available (though I haven't seen any during COVID times). Worth checking out!

Overall: a great quick coffee alternative to Starbucks when you're on your way to work and need a caffeine jolt without sacrificing quality Coffee: The coffee here is top notch. They have three different blends each for a different purpose: espresso, drip and pour over. I've had espresso and drip and both blends are unique and flavorful. They change up the blends every so often so it's great to come back and see what they have. Service: honestly some of the friendliest staff I've met in a coffee shop. They're always eager to ask about your morning or compliment your outfit. Other things: This is NOT the place to sit down and work on your next novel. They don't have WiFi and they only have a few bar stools. However, I love this place for its coffee and service. You won't be disappointed going here!

Really helpful staff and management! I had the CBD lemonade and it's very good. I like that it is not very sweet or at all and I can add my sugar as desired. I also got a cold brew in a bottle to go that I can't wait to try and share with my friends. The cbd is great quality.

This place is trash. The clientele and part of town can't be helped, but the management sucks and I heard they just let go of the best barista they had so there goes the excellent customer service so many people were writing about. Honestly better just to go the extra block or so to the Ace Hotel, which has a coffee shop attached.

We would go again. It was a cool vibe and the coffee was pretty good. The hot coffee could've been a little hotter, but tasted good. Definitely suggest if you're nearby. Super cool place

Overpriced, underwhelming cup of coffee. Overextracted. Can't complain about the pastries, but you can get them anywhere they're not "Patent" exclusives. Added 1 star bc barista with head tattoo was nice about it and offered me an americano instead when I complained about the drip coffee. The shot was very well extracted and tasted much better than the bitter drip that just left my tongue feeling dry and, uh yuck. If I'm paying that much for coffee, I get to be more critical. I won't return but at least that customer service experience was redeeming. If you find yourself in that neck of Manhattan: stick to the espresso, or go to literally any Starbucks. and don't get me started on the aesthetic of the place. I'm so fucking over it. No atmosphere, pure sanitized, generic instagram "modernism."

Patent coffee has one of the best latte's I've ever tried! I'm usually not a big fan of Latte's but I decided to give it a try and I was really amazed at how delicious it was. I actually came across this cafe while walking around the area mindlessly, and i didn't realize the exterior/doors were to a cafe until I looked closely. Might be a little tricky to spot immediately but it's a gem and a great find! Grata ambience and coffee. Next time, I hope to try a different drink & pastry!

Delicious and creamy, the macchiato with CBD oil gives you a calm alertness. Barista with the vegetable tattoos didn't disappoint.

Cool little semi-underground shop with friendly service but terribly tasteless espresso drinks. Milk on one of my drinks was also burnt. Such wasted potential.

Just tried their s'mores latte and omg it is amazing. The s'mores was so simple but tasty, and the drink was delicious. Presentation 10/10. Please keep this on the regular menu

Cute tiny coffee shop, good drip coffee, ok croissants, oat milk at no extra charge. One star off (considered giving 2 stars off) for having the credit card machine default to a 20% tip. That's quite a tip for pouring someone a cup of coffee to go.

We just moved into an office upstairs from this coffee shop and it has quickly become what I look forward to most about going to work. Their cookies are HEAT no Dwayne Wade and CAPPY HOUR may be the best deal on a premium Cappuccino in all of the NYC area. They also offer healthy milk alternatives such as oat milk for all the vegans out there. Definitely take a JOURNEY to this coffee shop!!

Overall a great experience, nice barista and good coffee BUT I took a star away because if you get an iced drink BEWARE! The straws are self serve and unwrapped. Even being careful to only touch one...I touched ten. Covid or not, that's kind of gross.

I recently visited Patent coffee at the suggestion of my girl. I tried the CBD Arnold Palmer and had a Yelp check-in offer for a free cookie. That cookie was delicious! I tried the chocolate chip. I'm not usually big on chocolate chip, but it was really good. I wanted to try the CBD coffee, but the only non dairy alternative is oat milk which is strange as a solitary choice and I'm just not into it. So I settled for the Arnold Palmer which was ok. I was looking for the herbaceous flavor that usually comes with CBD products and I missed it. I also didn't feel any if the effects of the CBD after drinking it. I would try the coffee next time if I'm in the area, and definitely grab a cookie.

Stop what you're doing and grab the most delicious cookies in all of flat iron. While you're at it enjoy some of the neighborhoods best coffee as well. I personally love to stop by for Cappy Hour from 10:30am-12:30pm during the week. Honorable mention goes to the incredible staff who are friendly and very knowledgeable (Emily and Journey). Also, their overnight oats game is on point! Glad to call this place my neighbor and a refuge from my office during the day. Thank you!

I've been here quite a few times and have had different baristas. I enjoy this spot. They offer CBD drinks. I always get milk alternatives. I've seen a woman bring her dog before. They have bottle CBD drinks too. Their seasonal s'mores drink sounded good, but I was scared of the sweetness...

Adorable place- I had a lovely lavender latte and it was perfectly made. Good spot to catch up with a friend or work on your novel-- plenty of tables and outlets.
