The Best Bakeries In Montreal - Montreal - The Infatuation

"These two interconnected shops on Chinatown’s pedestrian thoroughfare collectively make up a Hong Kong-style bakery with two entrances. Harmonie, on the left, is a self-serve bakery where you grab a tray and tongs to pluck coconut buns, sausage and relish rolls, mochi, or moon cakes from the display cases. BaoBao Dim Sum, on the right, has plump steam buns, with options for classic BBQ beef or spicy pork, teriyaki chicken, and blue-colored Doraemon bao. Both sides have a huge selection of bottled drinks, egg tarts, and a bubble tea counter. Everything is takeout only, but Sun Yat Sen Park, with a small pavilion and some seating, is just around the corner." - ivy lerner frank

Where to Feast on Savory Chinese Buns in Montreal - Eater Montreal

"This Chinatown standby has a pastry shop on one side and all manner of dim sum and Hong Kong style stuffed buns on the other. Check out their special roujiamo, called “the Mo’s Bun” with barbecue pork, and kimchi chicken or beef." - Ivy Lerner-Frank

My wife and I visited Montreal, we made a stop in the vibrant Chinatown district and decided to try Bao Bao Dim Sum for a quick bite. It was our first time trying bao and buns, so we were quite curious and excited to experience something new. The bao buns themselves were quite impressive in terms of texture, soft, smooth, and fluffy, just as they should be. They had a gentle, almost pillow-like quality. As for the filling, it was decent but not exceptional. It had a mild flavor, and while it was well-cooked, we felt it could have used a bit more seasoning or a bolder flavor profile to really make the experience memorable. It wasn’t disappointing, but it didn’t quite wow us either. Overall, our experience was pleasant, especially as a first-time introduction to bao. It’s a good place to try something different, especially if you're exploring Chinatown and want a quick and easy meal. While the buns themselves stood out for their excellent texture, the fillings left a bit more to be desired in terms of flavour.

The best buns. Delicious & comforting, wide selection across savory and sweet (probably the widest selection thay we have seen). Hotly steamed and immediately served. Clear menu with pictures that help you to choose from. You will have something that suits everyone here. There is also seating inside.

The food at Bao Bao dimsum is yummy. Price is reasonable. The freshly steamed dimsum buns are 👍. Not many seats inside. Depending on what you ordered, expect 10min wait time for the main dish. Definitely will shop again.

Update! Came back a year later to try more and it did not fail! The 9, 14, and 3 we're all phenomenal. Will continue to recommend this place up and down! ----- Got the Mo bun, poulet teriyaki, pork, and mango coconut bao buns. Everything was phenomenal. The Mo bun was my favorite. Will absolutely have to come back and try more. The prices were reasonable, service was good, and buns were delectable. The presentation of the dessert buns was adorable. You can't go wrong stopping in here for some quick, savory/sweet/tasty buns!

You can barely taste the meat from all the onion sweetness and added flavouring. It's supposed to be pork bao but tastes like chicken noodle soup with the weird onion combo. $3 for this? You can get better at T&T for $2. Two stars because it's inedible.

Great place for both sweet and savory bao buns. Our top pick was the braised pork. Limited seating, but easy for takeaway.

Me and my partner love the little baos so much. We came back more than once to try more, and I'm surprised every time. They are quite cheap, so you don't feel to bad to eat more than one. Depending on what you like, there are both sweet and salty options. Seating-wise, it is very limited, so you're better off outside to enjoy the weather and your meal than in the small space inside. Staff is efficient at their work too.

I am just telling our own experience. We’d always bought buns from their bakery next door (I don’t know if it’s the same owner) but this time we decided to finally try the little restaurant. We bought 3 rice cakes in green leaf, insipide no flavor, the rice was a cheap brand, overcooked it just tasted like a white flour paste, ingredients inside consisted of a whole dehydrated mushroom so old that it lost it’s flavour. The other rice consisted of a very dried red been paste which broke in pieces when I went to cut it, no flavor/bland, the third one was a yellow rice (I think they just used food color) same thing not any spice nor flavor. Won ton soup a 5 out of 10. Now the Egg rools: seemed like they just rolled up two tiny cabbage leaves in egg rolls raps… That’s it! No flavor. How can they be so indifferently apathetic serving such food to their clients! We just felt we’ve been ripped off. I think they just trap new clients/travelers who never return back, who else would.
