The Best Bakeries and Pastry Shops in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"This Polish bake shop has been churning out poppy seed and cheese strudels, plum and apricot paczki, and an assortment of other sweets for years. It’s also an excellent spot for charcuterie, ready-made sandwiches, and imported goods." - Daniel Bromberg

The Best Dougnuts in Montreal - Eater Montreal

"Doughnut connoisseurs head to Wawel’s multiple locations around town for Polish paczki. The glazed, hole-less, yeast-based doughnuts are fried, glazed, and powdered before being injected with the likes of plum or apricot jam. They can also be ordered plain, but why would you want that?" - Daniel Bromberg, Ian Harrison, Rose Maura Lorre

This is nice pastry that serves many different things. However they are known for their donuts (called ponki) and they claim to have the world's best doughnuts. The staff highly suggested the glazed plum one. There was also cherry, cherry and cream, and apple. They dough was fresh, moist and had a good taste of eggs. I would t say they are the best in world but they pretty good.

Today I visited a Pâtisserie Polonaise Wawel and really enjoyed the atmosphere—the pleasant smell stood out even though the store also sells savory dishes. You can stop by in the morning for a cup of coffee and some amazing doughnuts. But what really caught my attention was the French cake Fraisier. Reasonable prices and great service. I highly recommend it—everything is fresh and absolutely delicious.

Based on the reviews, I was really excited to check out this bakery, but my experience could have been better. I came by for an afternoon snack. Having little experience with Polish food, I asked the young lady who served me for a recommendation on what to eat from the savoury counter, and she didn’t provide any substantial insights. Nevertheless, the broccoli salad I chose was really tasty, but the stuffed crepe could have used another 1-2 minutes to be heated up, as it ended up being a bit cold. I may have just been unlucky with my experience, and I would be willing to give this bakery another try.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting Wawel after a great game of tennis, and I must say, it's a hidden gem! The salad was hands down the best I’ve ever had – fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. The bread was simply divine, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. And don’t even get me started on the coffee – rich, aromatic, and just the right pick-me-up! The warm, inviting atmosphere and the friendly staff made the experience even better. If you’re looking for a place that serves incredible food with a personal touch, look no further. Highly recommend!

This place used to be great and would have warranted a 5 star review until to got too bougie and fancy with pricing without an increase in quality. They charge 50% more than the competition and the product is not better sometimes even worse. The only thing saving them is the sandwiches sold at the counter which are still great quality and value. But the pastries, cold cuts and others are way off... service is average...

Authentic old school Polish bakery. If you're in the area stop and get some pączki, they're great. Just like in Poland. The breads are great, get some polish ham and some cheese and you're set for days. Support your local small business like this over some chain with mass produced donuts. Coffee is fantastic too. Fresh ground. Friendly service.

It is a lovely restaurant ran by nice old ladies and gentlemen. The atmosphere is cozy. The old lady gives a candy to me when I finished my meal. So nice:) I asked if she can recommend some bakery and I was presented this polish style donut. Actually I don’t have so much expectations for that because donut is not my favorite. However, this donut is new to me because the filling is jam and tastes like plum. I do like it. Btw, the salad is also appetizing. One dessert and a salad, perfect for my breakfast.

Such great value for the food! I loved everything I ordered so far and would go back for more. Make sure to go with an appetite since you would want to try a lot of the things they serve. The service is also excellent. They make sure you are well attended.
