The Best Bakeries and Pastry Shops in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"All types of sweet Portuguese treats are on offer at over-40-year-old Rosário, including pastéis de feijão (bean and almond tarts) and bolas de berlim (fried dough balls filled with egg custard). Just make sure not to leave without a pastel de nata (a traditional custard-filled tart with a scorched, caramelized top) — theirs are arguably the finest in the city. Once an institution on the Plateau, Rosário now calls Plaza St-Hubert home." - Daniel Bromberg

First time in the Montreal area and going to this place which I heard they're famous for their nates. Very friendly staff and more importantly very good tarts will definitely stop by when I'm in the Montreal area I've got the traditional one and the Nutella one all made in house and very very good

The lady at the register was extremely generous upon hearing it was my first time there - she did not hesitate letting me try their cheese bread, which was by far the best bread I've ever had! Such soft, cheesy goodness... The chouriço roll was very generous for the price, and the natas were amazing. Between the great service, quality of product and the prices, I can only give this place a 5!

There are many places that make good pasteis de nata but I'd say this one is my favorite and I like that there are also different types to choose from.

Veye good spot for panes de natas and other goodies. Employees are always very nice too. That's why I'm giving them 5 stars.

Covid 19 precautions obeyed by staff and customers. Patisserie Rosario is a clean, inviting bakery with yummy foods. Get there early to have your pick of churros! We visited late in tbe day and 'settled' with delicious cornets of raspberry cream.

Not gonna lie, probably the best natas in mtl. And we tried almost all of them. Flaky, custardy and affordable! Not $2.5 $3.0 but $1.75 and beating all the other expensive one. Will come back, and try other goodies for sure!

Went for egg tarts but seems I was too late for that. Got chocolate natas, coconut one and lemon one if I remember it correctly. Family run business with friendly service, affordable price

Yelp
¡Recomendado!

Yelp
Cute cafe located along Plaza St Hubert, so great place to stop by while having a neighborhood stroll. The pastel de nata here are very affordable (around $1.50 each) and SO good. They're rich, sweet, but at the same time not heavy or overbearing. They are kept chilled for purchase so keep that in mind, but I think these tasted amazing. There is a very small counter for window seating, or you can find a bench along the sidewalk of Plaza St Hubert to enjoy your food outdoors.

Yelp
While on a short visit to Montreal I had the absolute pleasure to stop by and try Patisserie do Rosario and can I just say the pastries were Fantastic. I had 3 different egg tarts...Regular, Caramel and Blueberry. They are served cold but the Crust was still very crisp and the custard was to die for...Creamy and Sweet but not overly so. Everyone was so accommodating , pleasant and patient especially with someone who didn't speak a word of French. So if your in the vicinity, please stop by and have a treat...you won't regret it!

Yelp
Like another reviewer said less eggy and sweeter than the HK egg tarts, still lovely enough for bring several dozens home for friends to try.

Yelp
This is the real deal. Patisserie Notre-Dame Du Rosaire is just like the bakeries in "the old country," in this case Portugal. Their goods are made on the premises, fresh, reasonably priced, and the store is conveniently located ... for some. The piece de resistance is their pasteis (plural) de nata. Even if I'm being a pedant about correct grammar, this info will be useful since you won't be able to eat just one - because of the reasonable prices and because of how good they are. Portuguese bakeries can be funny places. You might see some elaborate, eye catching pastries and start salivating, and then find them to be just ok. Conversely, you might see some blander looking ones, and then find that they are quite good. Not so with the pasteis de nata ... they are as reliable as the sunrise. The service at Patisserie Notre-Dame Du Rosaire can start out slightly aloof, but if a person demonstrates an interest in their offerings, their culture, and their country, then they definitely warm up. Since I see such an observation/complaint in other reviews, please try that, sullen hipsters of the Plateau Mont-Royal neighborhood. That said, they are in a great spot, within view of beautiful Parc Mont-Royal, and close to other Portuguese establishments, which are located on either side of Blvd. St.-Laurent, with Rue Rachel as sort of the implied southern border and St.-Joseph as sort of the implied northern border. Be sure to stop by if in this beautiful city and (literally) bag some pasteis de nata and other decadent, caloric, tasty goodies. Also, as you might guess, if you are using the Metro, the stop is (Plateau) Mont-Royal.

Yelp
I absolutely LOVE their natas! They have many different flavors. We've tried maple, lemon curd with cinnamon, meringue, almond and classic. My family loves the meringue but I prefer the traditional. Definitely grab a nata if you are in the area, they are only $1.25 each!

Yelp
Awesome Portuguese bakery. Here you will find the origin of Chinese, Dan Tat, in the original Portuguese Po Tat. It's more caramel-ly and less eggy than the Chinese counterpart, with a crispier crust. Do give it a try when you're here.

Yelp
This place is hidden and small near le plateau Mount Royal area. It's a Portuguese bakery. Love the egg custard and the coconut macaroon.

Yelp
This place is simple and good. We had a chocolate nata, a cream puff, and an almond pate cookie. All were excellent and totaled less than $4. It is possible the woman behind the counter didn't speak any English--my minuscule French and pointing got us through with no issues. A cute, authentic spot.

Yelp
My opinion, these are the best natas in the city, so 5 stars purely on that. They're always a hit dessert at any dinner party too. Sadly, the other pastries and service are quite underwhelming. I can't tell you the number of times I've come here and stood waiting to be served, as the Portuguese staff completely ignored me, chatting away and drinking their coffee. Don't get me wrong, I love the fact that there's always a bunch of Portuguese mamas hanging out, but this should not impede on providing a decent service. Also, this is more of a counter to go, as there is no real space to sit.

Yelp
Best Natas in Montreal. One oft favorite bakery's in Montreal. If you want real Portuguese bakery items, this is it. The only thing is not much selection of bakery items. What they do have is all good!

Yelp
absolutely the best portuguese pastries i had in montreal, i can't believe all this time looking for the best pastries around town this might be my favourite, from the decor, the moment i walked in, the smell of fresh of the oven baked goods was overwelming, everthing is so authentic, there's even senior portoguese clients gathering for the afternoon coffee at the only 2 small tables. I could not resist but to get a selection of; coconut macaron, almond cake, maple syrup nata, profiterol, each was delicious i can't believe is was only 1.25$ each, the maple syrup natas didn't taste much like maple syrup but all the other are the best.

Yelp
In my opinion, this is the best Portuguese bakery in Montreal. Perfectly located near Romados, you cannot go wrong with anything you get here as all the pastries are always fresh. The natas have a crunchy flaky crust and a not too sweet creamy custard. Not quite the selection of what you would find in Lisbon, Portugal but this is absolute heaven for your sweet tooth! Obrigado!

Yelp
Don't be fooled by appearances. Behind a not particularly enticing storefront is a bakery FILLED with natas. That is the most natas I have ever seen in one place. Not only do they have the standard egg custard natas, they have variations like chocolate, maple and apple pie. Yum! The price is right too, much cheaper than buying from a Portuguese chicken place or a grocery store, as I usually do. I will definitely be back!

Diena M.

Yelp
Yummy Natas, the custard is a little too yellow for what I'm used to, but they are the best I've tried so far in Montreal and they are decently priced at 12/$11, until I find something better this place will be my go-to
