London’s Best Bakeries | London’s Best Sourdough and Croissants | Eater London

"Quite a bit of the coverage of this dinky Hammersmith spot focusses on how French it, its pastries, and its staff are. It does look a bit like a Parisian extra that got lost in west London, which makes sense upon learning that its true home was the 13th arrondissement until 2014. But arrêter les conneries: in London, in 2022, its croissants, Breton specialities, and chaussons aux pommes (also known as the best French pastry in the world) have no competition." - James Hansen

Where to Eat the Best Food in London’s Best Restaurants - Eater London

"Patisserie Sainte Anne, in Hammersmith, reminds London that, yes, the Parisians still know what’s up, especially when it comes to apple chaussons." - Adam Coghlan

Everything I have had from here has been excellent and the kouign-amann aux pommes is always superb, I have had many 😋 I'd go so far as to say their kouign-amann aux pommes is the best pastry in London! Right up there with Habanos cigars and Scotch whiskey for pure pleasure of consumption 😃

Really disappointed with the apricot tart I bought recently — the base was undercooked and not up to the standard we’ve come to expect. This used to be our favourite spot, and we truly hope the new owners can live up to the high standards set before…

We lived in Hammersmith several years ago and then the place was our favourite- not a day without their fab baguette, not a weekend without their amazing desserts (you would enjoy each and every from the menu!) A magnificent taste of real France on the bank of River Thames it was then! Then we moved and only rarely I had a chance to pop in and buy as much as I could to enjoy these treats as long as possible!.. But my two recent visits really shocked me: not a baguette, not a single piece of dessert or tart was the same as before!?! That’s how I discovered what I actually started to suspect: the new owner. Thus - a totally new place, taste and aftertaste… Now I know why I don’t have to take this long trip to this once a gem of Hammersmith: a very average quality of every dessert, a very poor quality of pastries (croissant shouldn’t be called that name here anymore…) and bread (brioche is anything but a brioche here now…) I agree with other reviews, that new owners were too bold to keep the same price level for their products, but the worse thing is, that they also are trying to cut down their expenses by using lower quality (or quantity) of the ingredients. But more importantly, I agree with the statement , that you can’t use the history of this place as your own, you have to clearly tell customers, that you are new there and just TRYING to keep this place as good as it once was… Adieu, Patisserie Saint Anna UPDATE. Received a response from the owner today: “Fake review”,. Sorry, guys, but this one is not fake. As a proof, adding a photo of my yesterday dessert (couldn’t finish it, sorry…). Use to love it so much, but now it has lots of lumps in it, so no pleasure of eating that at all…

I was quite concerned after reading the negative reviews following the change in ownership. However, I was very happily surprised by the freshly baked, crisp texture of the croissant, which was reminiscent of the ones I had in my many trips to France. The Kouign-Amman was also superb. My wife and I enjoyed every bite, and we will certainly be back for more. Update: 2nd visit after a month. Had a very delicious Pain au Chocolat and Kouign-Amann Aux Pommes this time round. Standards remain consistently high.

One bite is all it all took to realise the pastries have changed and for worse! Been a regular for last 2 years, sadly my hunt for my favourite neighbourhood patisserie begins again 🥲 Update 13.07 - tried again and still the same. Meanwhile, AI has also been put to great use by the new owners as they simply don’t have time to read and respond to criticism. Next time don’t forget to delete the AI prompts before replying to customers :)

I only had a mocha here and I’m glad I stopped at that. I can’t believe they use Cadbury cocoa or some cheap tasting powder in their drinks. It’s revolting. No offence to the staff who were lovely. I couldn’t finish it. Price £3.50

This is still, without question, the best French bakery in the area. Some reviewers have been overly harsh on the new owners. It’s true that the previous team set the bar very high, and during the transition there was a noticeable dip in quality. But excellence takes time to rebuild, and in less than a year the progress is clear—the pastries are once again reaching the standard of Patisserie St. Anne’s best days, if not already there.

I think the patisserie is under new management/ownership. I have been popping in nearly every Sunday for years, and whereas I previously would have given this spot 5 stars, it doesn’t seem the same, these days. I have noticed new staff appearing over the summer and haven’t seen the old. I also haven’t seen my beloved tartliflette in a few weeks. This morning, I popped in along 11:20 and there was a 40-minute wait for baguettes, whereas I’ve never had to wait more than 15 minutes on a Sunday morning for another batch to come out of the oven. I wasn’t willing to wait for 40 minutes, so instead, I begrudgingly ordered a couple of croissants that were visibly bog standard cafe croissants and not nearly close to the standard that I’ve come to expect of this spot. I’ll keep popping in to these reviews to see whether things improve. However, in the interim, I think that I’ll have to find a new spot as I’m unwilling to sustain a drop in quality. Wishing the new management all the best in sustaining the quality of this place. It’s a neighbourhood jewel.

Yelp
This place is absolutely one of the best French bakeries I have ever seen. It is a very small shop, family run (there is the traditional family table at the back where the owner sat with his daughter getting ready for school!). They serve a French breakfast with a Baguette and Coffee, or a bakery item and Coffee. Lots of wonderful cakes too. I love my espresso, so I was really surprised to see a lever espresso machine. They had fresh beans and very good coffee too. Lots of French natives speaking French with the staff. That tells you something - no? Highly recommended.

Yelp
Pastries were not good, got the apple tart, kouign amanns (plain and with apples). Pastry didn't have any caramelization outside and almost seemed not fully cooked inside. Tart crust equally not well backed. Baguette with ham and cheese had a poorly baked soggy crust. The kouign amann with apples was essentially a round turnover with no resemblance to a kouign amann. Also seemed underbaked The woman helping me acted like I was bothering her. Saw this place on an eater list, was a big disappointment.

Yelp
The best French bakery in London. The owner came from France bringing all of her baking talents along. Highly recommend the strawberry tarte and the strawberry and cream cake. The bread is also amazing and they will slice it for you when you buy it. They take orders so perfect for your next birthday celebration. Very reasonably priced for London and they are very accommodating to orders. I bought a cake her for my boyfriends birthday and he loved it! Such a gem in Hammersmith area.

Yelp
My favourite bakery :) their almond croissants are THE BEST! We got their pear, fig and pistachio tart for a celebration and it was to die for, would definitely recommend. So far, have only had incredible pastries and I can't wait to try more!

Yelp
Gâteau Fraisier is a heavenly serving of the freshest cream on a classic french sponge. The berries were big and plentiful but I loved the cake part so much I was even wishing there were less berries! Royal Delight tea was a black tea infused with aromatic fruits. Had it iced and it was perfect with the cake. Friendly staff but the place is too small and cramped. Not really a place to sit in and relax. Kouign Amann was delicious. Didn't care much for the mince meat inside but phenomenal pastry and creme brulee top. It's pretty out of the way from central London so a bit inconvenient. But I would definitely make the trek here from time to time for a whole cake to take away.

Yelp
The best Bakery! J'adore One of the best French bakery in london. I'm French an the Flan was perfect, same but better than we can find in Paris. Merci beaucoup! I'm ready to try all your other patisseries

Yelp
We found this accidentally when returning our Enterprise rent a car and what a find! I thought I was in Paris. The owners operated a patisserie in Paris for 19 years before relocating to London. The goods can hold their own against the best French patisserie output. One word -mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm mmmmmmmmm. Need I say more? Brioches, croissants, baguettes with butter and jam, delicious cappuccinos and a case full of classic French pastries and cakes (cassis cake anyone?). Had me singing French and skipping out the door to start my day.

Yelp
Perfect little french cafe! It is beautifully decorated in bright and pastels, and the black Americano is one of the best I've had in the area. There is a huge variety of bakery delicacies; I chose a feta & olive bread and it was simply delicious and fresh. Very nice place! The correct address is 204, not 214 King's street!!

Yelp
Wow! Stumbled randomly over this little patisserie which is located between Hammersmith and Chiswick. Literally brought my back to my holidays in Paris right away. It's so authentic and nice with little tarts and amazing French pastries. The best croissant I had in a while I had here! There are better places for coffee but that's totally acceptable as it's more about the food here. If you're looking for something different with personal atmosphere, amazing food and free wifi go here, you won't regret it! And the little backyard needs a mention too which is really hidden and makes you forget about the big city life.

Yelp
I love this little bakery. I pop in every now and again to treat myself to one of their little cakes. Always delicious. Probably my favourite bakery.

Yelp
It is definitely worthwhile going to this small little French Patisserie located in Hammersmith. It might be a little hard to initially find, however once found I'm sure you will love it (if you like patisseries). They have a wide range delicious cakes savoury croissants, tea, coffee and a must try is their peach smooty. walking towards the back of the patisserie you find a cute outdoor area where you can sit outside. they can even close the top which means you can still sit outside even if its raining. I can definitely recommend this place

Yelp
Their almond croissant here is AMAZING! I couldn't get through it, it was so heavy but in the best way possible. Really really scrummy!
