Patterson's Pub

While visiting Mendocino on Valentine’s Day, we dined at Patterson's Pub for fish and chips and a beer. The wait for a heated outdoor table was brief, and the simple Valentine’s touches such as flowers in small vase and the foam bench cushions at our table were also a thoughtful addition, making the outdoor seating comfortable. We began with a cup of clam chowder, which was flavorful and not overly chewy, nice and hot for a cold February evening. For our mains, we ordered both fish options. Haddock with shoestring fries and cod with steak fries. Each was crisp and well-prepared, among the better fish and chips we’ve had along the California coast. I preferred the flavor of the haddock, while my partner favored the cod, noting it would have been perfect if slightly less oily. We paired our meal with the Foggy Day IPA, and the Blind Pig, the Foggy Day stood out and we both agreed was tastier and refreshing. The berry cobbler with ice cream was excellent and ideal for sharing; even as someone who doesn’t typically do dessert, I found it especially enjoyable. Service was a highlight. The ponytailed server man was attentive and professional, checking in at just the right intervals and wearing a protective mask, which we appreciated. Kieran, who we told resembles Timothée Chalamet, was equally personable and accommodating, even switching the TV to the Olympics for us, ensuring we fully enjoyed the evening.

Since this town gets crowded with tourists on weekends, this place also lacked enough seating. It presents itself as emphasizing the overall atmosphere and identity of an Irish pub, yet it doesn’t even serve Guinness beer properly tapped into a Guinness glass. The bar table was cluttered with too many chairs, making it uncomfortable to sit shoulder-to-shoulder with the guests next to me. Before sitting down, I asked if the Guinness was tapped into a proper Guinness glass, and was told yes—but they served it in a small glass shaped like a Guinness pint, while charging the full pint price. The clam chowder and fish & chips were not worth boasting about either. Essentially, the interior decorations are meant to create a certain atmosphere and give off an “authentic” impression, but in my personal opinion, it’s very hard to see this place as truly Irish.

Delicious! We had the Lobster Melt and the Crab Cake Benedict for lunch and enjoyed both. We came back for dinner and had their fettuccine Alfredo with prawn and loved it too! A solid spot overall!

My boyfriend and I decided we wanted to go to the beach. I have never been to a California beach before. It was pretty incredible. Afterward, we decided to drive up the coast in search of food. After driving for many miles, we finally come to this tiny coastal town. We walked around and smelled so much amazing food, but everywhere was closed for lunch lol. I could hear my stomach grumbling and didn't think I could walk any longer and almost settled for the food truck, until we found this pub. We walked up and a woman took us to a lovely outdoor setting, as my partner and I are sober. The place was very cute. The atmosphere was cozy and we certainly lucked out on the weather. We started with the crab cakes and clam chowder. The crab cakes came on a plate of perfectly seasoned salad. It was amazing. But the chowder, best chowder I have ever had. Perfectly creamy and a hint of spice. Then I ordered the fish and chips and he ordered the fish sandwich. We were not disappointed. The servers were on it even though they seemed pretty slammed. The people in Cali sucked, but this place made Cali look just a little bit better. FYI, if you have a vehicle that isnt electric, make sure to have google maps and your music ready to go before you get in your car or you will be surrounded by crazies for "idling" and "killing the planet".

Stopped by Patterson’s in Mendocino and tried the fish and chips along with a Beyond Burger. Honestly, neither dish was anything special. The fish and chips were okay but lacked the crispiness and flavor that make the dish memorable, and the Beyond Burger was just average—not much to set it apart from a standard pub bite. The pub itself has a cozy, lively atmosphere and is a nice place to hang out, but food-wise, it didn’t really impress. A decent stop if you’re in town, but I wouldn’t go out of my way for it.

Love this place! If we were local we’d definitely be regulars. Patterson’s is a well oiled machine, remarkable efficient even during the Friday rush, and Julie is an amazing bartender/server. They have a great beer selection and a broad food menu. The soup, fried shrimp, and lamb burger we ordered were all delicious and arrived quickly. Highly recommended!

Since Mendocino was quite crowded, we were happy to get a table here. They serve both food and beer. The food tasted great, but the portions were very large and heavy. The beer selection was okay for an American pub, though I did miss proper European beer, a bit too much typical American stuff for my taste. The service was friendly but not very efficient, and the outdoor seating was at a metal table, which wasn’t very comfortable. Overall, an okay experience.

Loved everything about this pub! The service was great, the food was excellent (including the berry cobbler alamode for dessert - not pictured, sorry!) and the atmosphere was cozy. Our server, Ryan, was attentive and friendly and they had ample heating outside with blankets to use. The garlic cheese bread, Hollywood Salad and Beef Burger were delicious. We may go there again before we leave the area!

Stopped in two days ago to start our day with a Bloody Mary for me and a mimosa for my wife. The Bloody Mary was hand made from scratch in front of us. It was delicious! For the mimosa, they give you fresh orange juice, and a bottle of champagne. So you get a little bit more than one glass of mimosa. We always stop into Patterson's pub while we're in town, for a drink and/or a meal. Last night we stopped in for dinner. It was very busy. It was about a 15-20 minute wait. But we were able to sit out back by a fire pit and order a drink while we waited. Got to meet some other folks passing through the area. Good conversation. For dinner I ordered the turkey burger with tater tots. It was perfect. Perfectly cooked with fresh lettuce, tomato onions, etc. Even the roll was perfect. My wife is a vegetarian and got the patty melt with the black bean garden burger. She got steak fries as her side. She was also very happy with her meal. The ambience here is pure Irish pub. Very friendly staff and clientele. If you're passing through the area, definitely recommend taking a break at Patterson's pub for a drink and or a meal.

Great service. Nice patio and good food. Came here for dinner with a party of 10. Everyone loves what they ordered. We didn't make any reservations but was easily seated. I recommend this place when you are around the area.

Staci was a great server! It was slow to start but once we got drinks, things were smooth. We sat outside which was very nice. Table ordered side Cesar salads with steak and their lunch special which was a cheese & bacon sandwich with a cup of tomato bisque. Delicious, great portions and quality.

Came here on a monday night and the line was out the door! It seemed that this was one of the only restaurants open in the area this night, but it was still a great experience with solid food. We ordered a bowl of clam chowder, the chicken pot pie, and the crab cakes with a caesar salad. All in all, every dish was great with the clam chowder and pot pie as standouts! The crab cakes and caesar were solid, but nothing crazy. Denise was the host this night and was extremely friendly and personable. Would definitely come back if we visit mendocino again!

Great spot in Mendocino! One of the few places that are open late, so it was well appreciated to have a nice and cozy spot open. Came here with a group of 6, and we ordered a bunch of apps to share. I loved the jalapeno poppers and the coconut shrimp--poppers were absolutely stuffed with cheesey goodness, and I liked the fragrant coconut flavor from the crispy breaded shrimp. I also really liked my bison burger and thought it was particularly juicy and fresh. Super nice staff as well!

This is one of the only places open late in Mendocino so we decided to give it a try while in town! The vibe inside was so quaint and warm, with cute Christmas and Irish decorations. Our waitress was so helpful with answering questions about the menu and offering recommendations. I decided to try the bison burger and was impressed with the meaty flavor and huge portion size. The fries were crispy. Overall, it was a solid burger. I only wish the prices were a little lower, but I'd come back!

Great pub! The food was great. The beer and drink selection impressive. The service was friendly and prompt even though it was Christmas Eve when we were there. Great vibe, old school in a good way.

Cool little pub with great bar seating and the dark, stormy, cozy vibe I search out. We were greeted right away by a friendly face and got our drinks right away. Started with the chicken cordon bleu and Wowzers!! Get them if you go. Hubbys review.. "I had the corned beef Rueben, which is one of their specialties, and it was perfectly toasted and stuffed with tender thin sliced corned beef. I could have used a bit more sauce, but it was too good to stop eating to ask for a side haha. " Service was above and beyond friendly. Ps. The lobster won tons were to die for.

We had quick service on a Sunday night. This place is 21+ order, but you can order to-go if you brought kids. Dogs welcome. Their patio is VERY dog friendly, with water bowls! They did warn us that at night skunks may come out and that it is usually not a problem because they just want French fries. We did not end up seeing any. It's the perfect outdoor but indoor feeling combined. Trees, plants, tan bark, but a huge covering with heaters and some TVs.

I always go to Patterson's if I am in the area. It never disappoints! Once again amazing service, beyond friendly wait staff, and wonderful food! And the Guinness isn't bad either!

The service was amazing--all of the waitresses we interacted with were friendly and checked in on us constantly. I got the wrap which was something I was eyeballing since I looked at their website. It had so many textures which made every bite a new experience. Not at all dry because of the dressing (I chose ranch but there's a variety to choose from) and avocado. My friend got the burger. They did have to add some sauces to avoid it being super dry. I tried a bite and it had this smokiness that made it very pleasant. I agree that the extra mustard and ketchup we put on it was needed. Fries were solid. Nothing to note there!

Quaint pub that is 21 or older only. We were sat immediately even though the dining and bar were full. Our server brought the speedboats to us. Quite an extensive menu so it took a bit of time to order. I had a smash burger w/ tots along with a cup of clam chowder, and my wife had a burger also. We didn't want to eat too heavy because we were going to graze through town. Full bar, tasty drinks!

Love Love Love this place! Staff... amazing. Great vibe - outdoor seating is cute with gnomes keeping is company.... And the Food - Oh My Goodness!! The chicken Pot Pie - to die for .... I could have easily eaten 3 Also shared the ribs plate with the group.... Fall off the bone meat candy! Probably my 2nd favorite

A solid 3.5 only because my lobster sandwich special tasted a bit strange - it definitely had some imitation crab in there that wasn't advertised. Other than that the house salad was delicious and my friends enjoyed their orders. This included the cod, mussels/clams and pear salad & crispy truffle fries. I enjoyed my Irish mule and Belgium beer. They also have a drink menu that includes cocktails and a bunch of beers you can get by the pint or half pint. Service is excellent and the outdoor space is relaxing.

Was in the area visiting either friends and decided to come here based on reviews and hotel recommendations. We had onions rings, chicken tenders, clam chowder and cod fish and chips. All were delicious. Service was good. We sat in the covered patio. Clam chowder was flavorful and not watery. Had good chunks of clams. Onion rings were well battered and crispy. Did not fall apart on first bite! Fish was also nicely battered and had a nice crunch not heavily battered. Was delicious. Would have to ding this place for the 3.5% surcharge for credit card use. We decided to pay in cash and waitress came back to tell us we short changed her! After we explained that we took off the 3.5 credit charge surcharge, she said "oh my register wouldn't take this off" but she agreed that it was correct! Our waitress was very nice and pleasant. Note for future diners: there's a 3.5% surcharge for credit card use and a 20% tip added for parties of 5 or more.

One of my favorite Irish pubs I've been too and I also have been to Ireland! Located right on the Main Street in Mendocino. Staff is freaken awesome, we had Julie as the server and bartender and she is 10/10 awesome. Great vibes in there, great staff and GREAT food! I was actually recommended to come here from a friend that also had the same experience. If you are in the area then come Here!

You just can't have a bad meal here. There is something for everyone. And their hot sandwiches are a terrific value. We split some yummy onion rings and had a French dip and taco salad for dinner. Both were yummy. Service was friendly and the patio seating was plentiful and dog friendly.

I came to Patterson's twice while staying nearby. What a cool little pub! They get packed so be willing to wait or sit outside. I would try for inside to get the full vibe of the place. It gets loud when it is busy, but that is part of the charm. The wait staff were cool and friendly. The seasonal drinks are so good! Food was filling and tasty. The mix of locals and tourists had this place filled with laughter and good times.

This place was recommended to us by the guy that checked us in at our hotel. He recommended the fish and chips. We went there for lunch and we were completely disappointed. The fish from the fish and chips seemed to be from a box. I ordered the warm spinach salad ($18) with chicken (extra $10) and the chicken seemed to be from a frozen bag from Costco. The salad was ok but certainly not worth $28. My husband is from Ireland and he said the place didn't look like a real Irish pub to him. Would not recommend

Irish pub in the heart of Mendocino. Bar, indoor and outdoor seating. Lots of specials daily. Had the rock cod tacos, very good. Reasonable prices. Lots of locals.

We love Pubs and Patterson's Pub was a great find when we were on a 3 week roadtrip. We thoroughly enjoyed the food and the staff were great!! Thank you. Arline and Ron C.

Pretty mediocre food. Expensive. We had good service though. I'd find a different place but not a lot of choices, so it's OK for a beer and a burger, but stick to pub foods. My salad was really weird.

Awesome place and it was our first time as we were here for the long weekend visiting from the Bay Area !! This place had amazing food and most of all best staff - Alexis who was our server and Lea too, were extremely courteous, polite and welcoming!! We felt so much at home as they know what's customer service all about for sure. U guys ROCK !! Love it Thanks

Charged us a 15% fee for takeout and didn't tell us!! We had kids under 21 and your not allowed to enter if your under 21. So they said we can do take out and we ordered our food. We then got an email during out 20 minute wait and saw we were charged $9 just for ordering takeout. They didn't once mention this and i'm extremely disappointed. On top of spending $80 for three meals that should have been $60, there were so many hidden fees we were unaware of. I'm very disappointed. They also messed up our order. They didn't give us our steak fries. Our burger that was $30 didn't come with cheese like it was supposed to, the meat was well over done and not medium rare. Our garlic fries that we ordered had literal garlic CHUNKS. I'm so disappointed because we're in mendocino for vacation and for our last meal here to be like this and it wasn't cheap either is so beyond frustrating!

Fun place for lunch and their $22 burger was just what I wanted. All American burger was just perfect and nothing fancy but they used good meat, bun and veggies. Liked their skinny truffle oil fries too.

Food was wonderful. Good beer selection. Took off stars because we were over charged on our bill and that's a big deal to me.

I would rate this a 2.5 We went there because of recommendations yet it was a disappointment. Once we got seated, it took 30 mins to speak to a server and then took an another hour to get food. The drink selection was good and food was ok, but disappointing on wait time and quality of food for price.

Delicious pub food. During my last visit, we ordered fried pickles, coconut shrimp, haddock fish and chips, and clams and mussels in white wine sauce. It was all delicious. I don't usually order coconut shrimp, but I had a terrible version at another restaurant and wanted to get that out of my mind. These were just as good as the best ones I've had in Hawaii. The haddock fish and chips were delicious - there was a choice between cod or haddock and I wanted to change it up. And the special clams and mussels were swimming in a delicious broth that we dipped everything in. I've been here several times and somehow always surprised how good it is.

I never have high expectations for classic American diners when it comes to flavor. But I do know I'll always get a hearty meal with very friendly and quick service--as I did in this pub. What I can't quite understand, though, is why even in a place like Mendocino they can't manage to source good vegetables from the market. I know they're out there--I came across a pile of wonderfully fragrant local tomatoes when I stopped by the Harvest Market. So I really don't get why, in most American restaurants--including this one--the vegetables end up tasting bland and plastic.

Checked this place out earlier in the day. I think it is the first property that I've been to that ever posted a Yelp review on a chalk board in front to attract people (haha see photo).. really wanted an early non-seafood dinner and this little Irish pub fit the bill. Burger was great. Ryan provided great service and the drinks were great. There is nothing super fancy in Mendocino. It is a super casual environment and locals were really friendly.

Food was awful. Worst pub food I've ever had. I've had pub food in London and in Las Vegas that was so delicious but this was more like what you get at a Denny's restaurant. Also, you better order alcohol otherwise you will be ignored by your server.

Loved the food, amazing beer selection, staff was friendly and welcoming. We had the specials: Chicken Pot Pie (phenomenal) and the steak empanadas!! Clam Chowder was definitely another favorite.

In Mendocino if you don't have reservations be prepared to wait awhile. Luckily at this pub, the wait wasn't too bad and we were seated in the back patio. Good pub food and friendly service with fire pits. Can't go wrong here.

The best food we had on our little babymoon/wedding anniversary staycation. We ordered the clam chowder, fish and chips, meatloaf (not pictured cause hubby went straight to eating it), and the berry cobbler (I haven't been eating dessert for the last 7 months due to gestational diabetes but I risked it all for this because everything just tasted so good).

Food is great. Vegetarian options. Salads, veggie burger and veggie sausage. Great atmosphere, happy crowd, service is amazing and wonderful. Highly recommend!

Definitely recommend! Service is exceptionally friendly! 21 and over only. We were greeted at the door with a very friendly hostess. Bar seating was all that was available to be seated immediately. We do not drink alcohol, but were happy to be seated at the bar. It's not a rowdy bar or too loud. Julie, our waitress, provided exceptional service! She got us hooked up with some delicious mocktails. Clam chowder is the BEST chowder you will find anywhere on the coast. We also ordered the quesadilla and coconut fried shrimp. A very large menu! 5/5 stars!

Regrettably, our recent experience at Patterson's was very frustrating. My mother and I stopped by on a cool, somewhat rainy autumn day for a mid-afternoon meal. Since we were between lunch and dinner, we hoped we might be able to be seated fairly quickly. Unfortunately, it was a 30 minute outdoor wait. On their building, there was a sign indicating that they only serve customers 21 and over. No problem; I'm in my mid-thirties. However, once we were inside at our table, ready to place our order, the seating hostess let me know that she would need to see my ID. I explained that I wouldn't be drinking. She insisted again that she would need to see it, at which point we also mentioned that my mother would not be drinking. The hostess then told us that ID is necessary simply to sit in the restaurant. (!) I was somewhat dumbfounded by this. I've certainly never been required to produce identification merely to eat a meal. At that point, I let her know that, unfortunately, my ID was an hour away in our hotel. She didn't seem to understand this, as she kept repeating saying that I would need to get it from the car, that either a driver's license or a passport would work, etc. Finally, the hostess informed us that we were going to have to vacate the table. We asked about the possibility of sitting outdoors on their patio, away from the bar area, but seating on the patio also required ID. I was quite irritated and disappointed, but we went ahead and placed a to-go order, which we waited for, once again, for 25 minutes outdoors. My mother and I decided to drive down to the waterfront so that we could at least enjoy the meal with a pretty view from our car. Once we arrived and opened up the bag, though, we discovered that they had not included silverware, condiments, etc. This was the last straw for me. While the food itself was fine, it was certainly not worth the hassle. I wish our experience had been better. My recommendation to Patterson's would be to make it extremely clear that all customers will be required to provide identification, regardless of whether or not they will be drinking. I don't think their current policy is at all intuitive, and it would have saved us a lot of time and frustration had we been aware.

I had the Fish & Chips and a cup of Clam Chowder. Best I've ever had. Food was hot. Fish was fresh. Service was fast and friendly. 5 Stars. I'll be back.

Patterson's Pub was THE FIND of our 4 day Mendocino County getaway!!! So good that after one visit we went there again the next day and if we had another day would have gone again! First, they are well located in the heart of Mendocino in a charming building that looks like it was picked up and moved straight from Ireland. Erin go bragh! Inside there is ample nice bar seating as well as several comfy tables and outside there is a huge heated, decorated tent with lots more tables and a stage. Inside feels exactly like an Irish Pub and the rows of taps were amazing. If I could I would give the very experienced servers 10 Stars! Fast, friendly, chatty and on top of everything - great at anticipating our wanting refills, more napkins, etc. And in truth everyone there is a server as they jump in to help when the server is busy. THE FOOD, OH MY! Both visits we had the Clam Chowder which was the best I've had in years. So thick my spoon stood up in it! First visit I had the Rueben that had at least 3 inches of tasty corned beef along with great fries (you can get fries in a staggering array of preparations) and super pickle slices. Sweetie had one of the daily specials - Meatloaf, mashed potatoes and veggies - outstanding. Second trip I had the Fish and Chips (I substituted superb onion rings for the chips) . The fish was a large, thick fish filet that had been cut in half, battered and fried. Best fish I've in a long time. Great batter that stays on the fish too! Onion rings were sweet and perfect! Sweetie had the Patty Melt and Sweet Potato fries which she loved! If we had gone back a third time I would have ordered the Patty Melt as it was that good! If Patterson's was 4 hours closer I would be there every week and work my way through the entire menu (and the taps)! It's that good! Trust me - when in the area you gotta go there. PRO TIP: go early in your trip as you're gonna-wanna go back!

A nice pub with good food and friendly service. They have indoor and outdoor seating, as well as live music some evenings. I had a chicken wrap with fries, it was good and fries were fresh, warm and crispy.

Since we travel and stay in Ft Bragg twice a year we always try to have lunch at Pattersons pub in Mendocino. Monica has been taking care of us for years and the food and beverage is stellar. However, since our most recent visit was the day after the national election and where we live in placer county we are mostly red if you feel me. Seems Mendocino isn't simpatico with the new president elect. More than a few patrons glared at my hat choice with one particular old maid burning a hole in my back as I was leaving the bar. Best advice, know your audience before rocking a Trump/Vance MAGA hat in Kamala territory.

We were in Mendocino for three nights and 6 meals and we ate here on our first and last night and each time it was delicious. The first night my husband ordered the special of black cod on Caesar salad and I ordered the black cod sandwich. Both were fresh and very good. The portions were generous and nicely presented. The beer selection was varied and had a couple of our favorites. Service was friendly. The next time we went we had a short wait but it was worth it. We shared the wedge salad which came with plenty of fresh bacon bits and a creamy blue cheese dressing. We also shared the special clams and mussels with pasta and there was plenty of shellfish for each of us. Again, friendly outstanding service. Thank you. Next time we are in town we will be back'

Was super busy on a weekday evening, definitely a locals place. Got the fish and chips & the fish was freshly fried and crispy albeit a bit oily but the fries were a bit soggy and didn't have any seasoning on them (had to salt them a decent amount). My boyfriend got the Philly cheesesteak and he did not really enjoy it as it was small and was lacking filling. Our waitress was nice enough, just seemed a bit busy. Classic dive bar interior, very warm vibes
