Where to find the best Mexican tamales in Las Vegas | Eater Vegas

"As the name implies, Patty’s Tamales only serves tamales — and this singular focus has paid off. The menu features both savory and sweet tamales filled with slow-cooked chicken in spicy green sauce, shredded pork in mild red sauce and sweet corn with pineapple. Diners can order individual, a half dozen, a dozen, or three dozen tamales. Patty’s has two locations: one on East Sahara and one on Maryland Parkway." - Krista Diamond

Google
I really enjoyed the tamales. My daughter is very particular about what she eats and she even liked hers as well. Would definitely recommend. One of the best I’ve had. I got the cheese with the peppers and it was tasty.

omnipresent original

Google
Me and my wife love tamales and we've been wanting to try this place for about 5 years because we go to Einstein bagels next door and yesterday we finally tried them and let me tell you it was one of the best tamales I've ever had in my life the price is amazing and size is too definitely worth every penny ill be coming back very soon

Google
I love Patty's tamales, but the service is horrible. The person at Maryland Pkwy. doesn't speak English, and I dont speak Spanish I ordered 8 red chicken tamales and 8 cheese. I was taking them to a friend who just out of the hospital, well the next day I found out that she gave me 8 green HOT tamales, that my 80 year old friend could NOT eat. I should have been more observant. They charged my credit card TWICE, but did do a credit. Still the HOT tamales were a total waste. I can't believe the only person in the establishment doesn't speak ANY English.

Google
Who ever comes from California or neighbors around Nevada. I recommend Patty's Tamales. Just remember they do have a spicy kick. Chicken is not spicy at all

Javier Mena

Google
Very disappointed, very little meat, good flavor but nope. Go out of your way to go to Sahara and Nellis Patty's way better

Shadow H

Google
It was honestly pretty good I got 3 cheese and pepper and 1 spicy green chicken and it was good. Just be careful little spicy lol.

Google
It was delicious, glad I stopped in and tried it out. I will be returning

Yelp
I was referred by a friend. Took off to check out immediately ... Super moist even at 4pm! Cheerful gentleman accommodating to go orders (only) A line full of regulars that moved swiftly. Small n clean locale. PS Spicy means SPICY!! I tried them all and I'll be back! Thank You ~ Especially since I discovered my new terrific dentist, at the same time, right next door... And they plugged them too!!

Yelp
I ran an errand nearby this area and I saw the sign "tamales" and it got my attention. Drove into the plaza and saw the sign clearly and now I wanted some tamales! This place has no tables or chairs, just a counter and a couple of boards hanging there as their menu. One in English, one in Spanish. It's brilliant: Sell what you advertise, keep overhead expenses and cost low by having no staff, no tables to bus, no staff to pay, no bathroom to clean , etc. Since I have been disappointed before by tamales I have had so far in LV, I ordered 2 just to try them out first. I ordered green chicken (spicy) and red pork (not spicy). The green chicken really packed serious heat! The corn masa is finely ground, soft and good but I like them a little on the wet/moist side. The chicken is shredded m, good amount, not skimp , and there were green bits of peppers mixed with it. And holy cow - They weren't kidding when they noted that it is spicy! I had to drink a little bit of yogurt to calm my tummy, lol The red pork has shredded beef and a good amount too. Good flavor, has enough red sauce so that it isn't dry. The beef is moist enough but the masa was drier than the green chicken. (I inhaled it and forgot to take a photo, though) Overall, it wasn't bad but delicious. Over $2.50 each but then again, everything is up now. If you are in the area, craving for some tamales, give them a try!

Tomi P.

Yelp
I'm missing the beef tamales !!! No one at EITHER location can tell me " why no beef". I luv the tamales, the counter help is always helpful, but they always claim " no english". Which for me is no help. BUT I always go back !!!
google avatar

Yelp
The tamales here are amazing. I always get the green chicken. They are spicy but so worth it. They also have the red chicken for those who can't tolerate spice. It's a bit of a hole in the wall spot but the service is always amazing and the tamales are top tier.

Yelp
I must say I'd ordered over the phone and needed the order to be picked for my Cinco de Mayo potlucks work (3rd since we celebrated early for work wise). Not just the food was packed with care,it was labeled individually ,fresh,& not to often I can place an order over the phone and no language barriers I must say...thank you Victoria for a job well done and being patience with me ordering for the 1st time over the phone for the both of us I couldn't take the pics since my coworker's couldn't wait to try it right there and then soon as it arrived

Yelp
These tamales were FANTASTIC. I went in on a weekday and was waited on very quickly. There really isn't anywhere to sit and eat but it was quick to stop in and order my tamales to go. Service was very friendly. I ordered a dozen tamales and I think it was something like $37 for everything. It's more than you'll pay at Cardenas or any of the other Hispanic grocery stores but they were delicious and well made. I will definitely order from here next time we're craving tamales
google avatar

Jennifer J.

Yelp
These are the Best I have ever had ‼definitely recommend. for any occasion.. we got them for a Birthday party
google avatar

Steve G.

Yelp
Have eaten many tamales from neighborhood tamale vendors. Patty's tamales are the best I've had in Las Vegas. For just $2.89 each and they are big. Love the jalapeno and cheese.
google avatar

Nai L.

Yelp
Nice to have a place you can get tamales year round - the maza is soft and the meat has good flavor. They were very friendly and will def be back. Good portion of meat to maza Pork - spicy but not overly Cheese - spicy and seeds left in with peppers so some will be spicier than others Chicken - not spicy

Micah M.

Yelp
I had a Christmas party with the Mexican theme and I went into Patty a month before to make sure I could pre-order all of the tamales and they would be ready. She contacted me a day to pick up just to make sure I still wanted them and to go over my order one last time. When I went to pick them up, they were ready and they were absolutely delicious. I recommend this place and I really need to go more often because they are awesome!

Yolonda H.

Yelp
Please excuse my spelling, punctuation and capitalization errors. I might have still been eating.

Yelp
Best tamales in Vegas, I mean hey where else can you find year around tamales in a desert hot hole like Vegas baby! Hey Patty, your Tamales are "deliciosa" although your green chili verde ones did burn my bum bum! Thanks... Wish I could have taken pictures but I was too busy stuffing my face with tamales during 120 F weather!

Heather G.

Yelp
On Sunday morning I was craving some tamales and decided to try this place out, majority of the reviews said they taste good, and they actually do but as I'm eating the last tamale I come across this
google avatar

Hayley K.

Yelp
Poor quality. They bumped their prices from 27$ to 36$ for a dozen. They were never very good because there weren't enough meat, but now with them being expensive I can't justify coming in any longer. It's difficult finding inexpensive food near the UNLV.
google avatar

Alexandra G.

Yelp
Patty's Tamales is right across the stress from UNLV in a parking lot that contains many other food options. There is no seating inside and the menu is rather very straightforward. The cashier took down my order and my tamales were ready within 5 minutes. The pollo verde was quite spicy, and the tamales were a rather big size! So that's a giant plus! From what I have gathered, their prices have drastically increased however, I do not blame them as were are in a pandemic and businesses big and small have been effected in so many ways. All in all, if I'm craving tamales I wouldn't mind stopping by again if in the area.
google avatar

Dennis T.

Yelp
I hate to give this place a bad review but they specialize in tamales here and they should be better tamales than what we got.came here a few days before Christmas for a dozen tamales because we tried the other location on Sahara and the Tamales where good but the tamales we got here where mostly masa with little meat pork that is inexpensive, every time I took a bit of the tamales here I had the drink water because there was just to much masa in them. I won't be back to this location and next time I want Tamales I'll buy one first and look at it. Lesson learned

Heather V.

Yelp
Wanted to get some good tamales, and found this place on yelp. OMG they were so good! Very delicious!
google avatar

Evelynn G.

Yelp
Good tamales for the most part. I recommend eating them while they are still warm, as they can get quite dry after a while. The location entrance can be a little troublesome when there is heavy traffic, but manageable. The tamales are a bit pricey and a bit smaller than other tamale shops I've tried, but are nevertheless tasty and satisfying.
google avatar

Kristina G.

Yelp
These tamales were AMAZING!!! It's my first time trying and I'm not one to leave reviews on places, but this place deserves some positivity!! The lady was so kind, we got our food fast and it was hot (it's already eaten) so I don't have pictures lol. but I DEFINITELY will be returning! Reminds me of my nanas tamales that I get once a year! 10/10 would recommend to anyone looking for tamales year round! The pollo verde was my favorite!
google avatar

Jordan H.

Yelp
I've been meaning to try this place for years and I'm glad I finally did! The menu is very straight-forward and consists of four different options for your tamales: Chicken w/ Red Sauce Chicken w/ Green Sauce Pork w/ Red Sauce Cheese w/ Peppers Over the course of three visits, I tried all four options and they were all excellent! The tamales can be purchased individually, or in bulk, and the restaurant offers soda cans and water bottles for purchase as well. This is definitely a take-out only type of place, and it is SO worth a visit!
google avatar

Yelp
Would give a three and a half stars if I could. Four stars seems like it would be too high for this place. We think ordered the green chicken, red pork and cheese with peppers tamales and ate them in the car because there was no seating in the restaurant probably due the covid. Kind of messy to eat in the car and would suggest going somewhere outside to eat them. I wanted to try all four tamales but she said she was out of one of them and I'm not too sure which one that was. In the bag we couldn't differentiate which one was which except for the cheese with peppers. One of them was really spicy, enough to make my scalp start sweating a little. I think that was the green chicken because the sauce wasn't red. The other one seemed very mild and had a red sauce on it. The meat seemed to be a bit different from the first one so I was thinking red pork. The cheese one was mild. All the tamales were good but not great. My friend thought there should be some sort of sauce on it.
google avatar

Jessica C.

Yelp
Straight forward menu. No frills. You basically have 3 options: no spice (pork) or spice (chicken or pork) and cheese. The cheese and peppers is the hottest option and it is delish. Masa is dense and on the blander side but fillings are flavorful so it balances out. They only had one spicy red pork left at noon on a Sunday so not sure how many batches they make daily but this is a spot to get your tamale fix when you feel like a tamale. Don't expect to have a life changing experience or you will be disappointed. Just expect some good tamales to satisfy the craving. Will be back... hopefully they will have more spicy pork when I show up. But the cheese and peppers is always gonna be a must for me. It brings some heat.

Yelp
Yeah so I have been sitting on the this review because I love to support local business (mom and pop),,,, a co worker is the one who found this place it's close to my job so it's convenient ........ The masa has good flavor and they are so heavy in weight but like most tamales lack of meat!!! And for the price I kinda excepted more for the tamale..... so that is why I'm only giving them 3 stars.... I mean there are better tamale's at our local Latin supermarket,,, but everyone is different some people my like a lot of masa and less meat? The place look clean so that is good..... but if I'm going to pay 2.25 a tamale I will go to Donna Maria's they are of great quality and taste.... but they are not as close.
google avatar

Gretchen B.

Yelp
Instead of supporting fast food chains during this Covid outbreak, consider supporting a small business. We decided to stop by Patty's today and got a dozen tamales. Located in a strip mall off Maryland and near Harmon. Small selection of flavors but done well. We got a dozen, 3 each of the different flavors. We tried the spicy green chicken to start and was it not only spicy but delicious!! Will update as we try the rest of the flavors. To note, Patty's was very clean and had a large jug of hand sanitizer on the counter!!!

Jesse M.

Yelp
Best secret in all of Vegas! My wife and I have been searching for a place to buy Tamales that we can at least consider half decent being that we are originally from Los Angeles. This place definitely exceeded our expectations and is highly recommended.
google avatar

David C.

Yelp
Wanted to order tamales for Christmas, but the terrible web site would not let me. Drove all the way from Centennial Hiils to order in person at 7:00 PM, but they were closed. Web site has closing time at 8:00 PM. Guy inside just waved me off. This is not the first time I have issues with them, but it will be the last.
google avatar

Krista B.

Yelp
I was in the mood for tamales and I was talking to my Coworker about going to La Bonita to pick some up. He recommended ordering from Patty's Tamales for the best flavor and authenticity, so I decided to give it a try. I ordered a dozen tamales for pick up at a later time and right when I showed up for pick up, my tamales were ready to go and I didn't have to wait. The flavor was amazing! We ordered 5 green chicken, 5 red chicken, and 2 cheese & peppers. The green is spicy but holds so much flavor. The other two are both super flavorful and delicious! If you want authentic, delicious, and filling tamales, Patty's is the place to go! This is gonna be my go to tamale spot!

Brenda C.

Yelp
Tamales are great. Perfect in size. Meat to maza portion is fair. Spicy tamales are actually spicy so be careful if you can't do spicy.
google avatar

Ronald P.

Yelp
I just moved from the Bay Area, California and only recently got into eating tamales just before I left so when I saw this place, it was perfect! When I first stopped by randomly there was a "Be Back In 30 Minutes," sign on the door and I was bummed out. I ended up running some errands and came back to purchase half a dozen tamales, 3 red pork and 3 green chicken, keep in mind they're pretty generous sized tamales. The flavors I got were both delicious and I've been coming back consistently with the same quality and flavor each time! I appreciate the quick service and convenience for quick bite of some tamales, thank you!
google avatar

Valerie S.

Yelp
They were tasty but kinda small for the price. I would go back if the place I normally go to is out of the ones I need. I like that they specialize in 1 thing and they are good. The young guy who helped was very nice.
google avatar

Giselle D.

Yelp
Patty's tamales is BOMB! I go here often just to pick up a few tamales on the way home. Be warned, they are quite spicy, but that's the reason I love it! They are so juicy, well seasoned and have so much meat in each tamale. Even the vegetarian one is delicious. They only have three choices (great, because I love concepts like this and In-n-Out where they specialize in a few good quality items). I highly recommend them even for catering. Also, my favorite is the green spicy chicken one!
google avatar

Steve K.

Yelp
I dig that this place has a small selection and low prices, but sadly, I just didn't find the items to be good enough to make me want to get them again. I had three tamales, a pork one which had most no filling and was overwhelmingly Masa, a red chicken one, which was enjoyable, and a green chicken one, which was somewhere in between in enjoyment (also as advertised on the spicy end). I'd say they were two, four, and three stars respectively, with a bit of indigestion two hours later. So, basically a three star experience.
google avatar

Blanca V.

Yelp
Stopped after my lab work to get some tamales!! Sign says Open but the doors are locked, ??? Called the number listed just goes too voice mail ? First and last time I will stop at this location. Operating hours are 8am too 8pm its now 8:22 am and its still close !!
google avatar

Barbara T.

Yelp
They get busy with the tamales. I've tried a lot of tamales out here looking for that authentic corner lady Los Angeles homemade tamale and this is definitely my go to spot for spicy chicken tamales.
google avatar

Shaelynn C.

Yelp
This place is so hit or miss like who works here?? Never answer the phones always closed when they say open. Y'all want us to support your small business but can't even answer phones?
google avatar

Paul D.

Yelp
Disappointing! Had the chicken and cheese and green chile tamales. The chicken had almost no filling, and the cheese was just weird: stringy cheese and undercooked chiles. The masa was too hard. I expected delicious tamales, and was left wanting.
google avatar

Robert S.

Yelp
Tamales are pretty good. Masa is firm and not mushy. There could be a bit more filling inside and maybe a bigger selection but the price os right. Heads up, this is just a tamale stand. There are no tables or soda machines. It's mainly take out service.
google avatar

Betty G.

Yelp
Ordered a week in advanced of a decent order and they can't get a simple order right. Disappointed. Especially for how expensive they are.
google avatar

Jay P.

Yelp
The tamale's are extremely good, especially the green chicken....best tamale I've ever had. Period. Even the no frills, "we ONLY do tamale's" environment is acceptable because the tamales are, simply, that good. Why four stars? The hours are inconsistent. I've swung by at 7:30 (closes at 8) and the doors are already locked. If you're going to post hours, please try to honor them.
google avatar

Sylvia G.

Yelp
Recommended my mom check this place out she was doubtful once she heard the price for each but after bringing some home and trying them price was very fair as the tamales were larger than most ordered and filled with enough meat that we were full after eating just one. Tamales were tasted amazing by far one of the best I've tried besides that of my grandmothers in Baja Mexico.

Johnathan C.

Yelp
I'm from the Bay Area I've had a bunch of different Mexican tamales even Salvadorian tamales and let me tell y'all patty's tamales has set the standards high for tamales . There Big & packed with juicy meat and sauce my personal favorite was there pork

Ray M.

Yelp
GIVING THIS A 5 star before I try because I have REALLY HIGH HOPES LOL -- Moved here from Cali lol no place better to get tamales or any Latino food!! Normally any place outside of cali tamales are gross either pure fuckin masa or no flavor at all.. so I'm really hoping these are good!! Will update once I try them.
google avatar

G R.

Yelp
We like the green but the red is good as well. Haven't tried the other flavors yet. We've. Had them twice. They seem pretty consistent. Tried two different locations to. The young kids that work there have good customer service as well which is a plus

Joseph `.

Yelp
Patty's Tamales has been my go to food joint when I am on break from work. The employees take their time and care for their customers. I would definitely recommend Patty's if you're new to the Vegas area or looking into a Mexican food spot!
google avatar

Lorenzo A.

Yelp
Great tamales green spicy ones are bomb! Very central. No seats inside. But looking at the area I would rather take them home anyways!
google avatar

Jocelyn C.

Yelp
I've been going to Patty's tamales for couple years now and has always come trough with authentic flavor of their tamales. The spicy green shredded chicken tamal is my all time favorite. Their tamales are always pippin hot and juicy, as they should be. Also, their establishment is clean and the staff is friendly.
google avatar

Lori S.

Yelp
I was seeking last minute tamales for a gathering and stumbled upon this place on Yelp, after several calls to other places and no longer taking orders I decided to drive to this place since this place is brand new and doesn't have a number to call. They had every tamale on the menu and I must have been in and out within five minutes. The size of these are bonkers! Super big! The green chicken is the spicier one for sure! I loved all of them but my favorite was the cheese ones with chilies. Simply stellar tamales, will return for sure.

p m.

Yelp
It was ok, but I have to have good tamales. I ordered 6 of the mild chicken and they were salty. They also tasted kind of basic, like regular seasoned salt. The masa was good texture and not dry or soggy. I stumbled on this place after eating at the Pho restaurant in the same strip mall. I was so happy when I saw tamales. Too bad I will have to go elsewhere for my holiday orders.
google avatar

Brianne B.

Yelp
I was surprised at the size of these tamales, they are a great size for the price you pay!! The masa of the tamales were delicious. I got the cheese and green Chile and the red chicken since it was the only non spicy one. Flavor of the red chicken was decent but I am a huge cheese lover and was so disappointed with how hot the Chile and cheese tamale was. It was so unbearably spicy I couldn't even taste or finish it. (Maybe I am too white lol). Only 4/5 stars because there is only one option for non-spicy lovers. This location is perfect right across from school so I am very upset I won't be going back unless you guys introduce more tamales that aren't as spicy.
google avatar

Ivonne C.

Yelp
We love Patty's. When they first opened their tamales were tender and flavorful, recently they're tough and kind of bland. Either way, we are loyal to Patty's and we hope they can come back from this.
