Pauley's Review - Athens Ga - The Infatuation

"While a casual creperie first, Pauley’s is undeniably one of the most popular student bars. Not just because of their walls decked with photos of people who tried 100 different beers here. It’s mostly because of their Happy Hour, which includes easy-sipping $5 martinis on Thursdays and half-off wine and $1-off draft beer Monday-Thursday. And the food is valid too—like sweet crepes with berries and cream and a savory, cheesy caprese sandwich, which both hit the same on a quiet weekday lunch as they do four drinks in during a much livelier Saturday night. Open for lunch until late-night, Pauley’s has perfected the transition from downtown dining to debauchery. photo credit: Sarah Newman" - Delaney Tarr

Pauley’s Crepe Bar Closes its Atlanta Location and Dekalb Athletic Club Coffee Shop Opens in Inman Park - Eater Atlanta

"Sorry UGA grads, Athens-based Pauley’s Crepe Bar is closed on Marietta Street in Westside, What Now Atlanta reports. The restaurant opened in 2016 at the corner of Marietta and Hampton streets near Delia’s Chicken Sausage Stand and the Georgia Tech campus. Pauley’s served a variety of sweet and savory crepes, sandwiches, and salads, and offered nearly 170 beers behind the bar, 30 on tap. The original location in Athens is still open." - Beth McKibben

The staff were super friendly and the food was delicious! I didn't think savory crepes could be so good! Definitely recommend the deviled eggs! Their gumbo is also REALLY good! The atmosphere is so chill. I really liked the vibe. Open and friendly. Looking forward to visiting again soon!

Google
Overrated restaurant. Staff was more interested in chatting with each other than serving the customers. We ordered the Comfort Dip, it came with just broken chips and pretzel sticks. The dip was okay. Devil eggs were okay as well. The crepes were good but not great. With so many other restaurants around, I recommend skipping this one.

Beau

Google
They're out of all the decent beers on tap. No salt in any of the food. The crepes would be way better as sandwiches and they don't have any traditional crepes. And then the bill comes..... one crepe, one egg, and one drink is $50. Yeah, I won't be back. Got two stars instead of one because the service was good, but it'd have been better if I was a blonde female I'm sure.

Google
What a unique place to dine. Full bar, great crepes and friendly service. My wife and I went late afternoon and were greeted promptly. Riley was our server and she was very helpful, friendly and attentive.

Google
Pauleys is a very popular Athens mainstay, and just happens to employ some very kind and responsible individuals. One night, my friend left her wallet behind and a very kind gentleman named Matthew, who was working the bar, did a comprehensive sweep of the restaurant and found it before we even realized it was missing! Super friendly staff. Their only fans martini is also delicious.

Google
Great lunch here. We had a Cuban, Chicken club crepe and Philly Cheese Steak, and for dessert we shared a crepe with sugar and lemon. We had a great coffee, Sweetwater 420 beer and an ice tea. Service and atmosphere are impeccable. Super place for a meal.

Google
We were a group of 18 that came in. We made reservations so that it would be easy to seat us. The hostess and the waitress were kind. They even swapped out my daughter’s bowl. We ordered the Mediterranean salad with chicken and the bulgogi bowl which was replaced for the strawberry and Nutella crepe. Over all the service was great. They even allowed us to split our check. I rate the food a 7/10

Google
Stopped in for brunch after a night out. Delicious food and drinks. Our server hayden was to die for, cutest little twink this side of the Mississippi. 10/10 would recommend!

Yelp
We are huge fans of Pauley's when we go. The wait staff is super friendly and helpful. The food has large portions and always tastes amazing and the ambiance is cool. We try to eat there every time we visit our daughter if we can get in. Definitely worth the hype.

Yelp
I went there 2 days ago. Parties of 1-2 are only allowed to sit at the bar (and not at a table). I have a very bad banana allergy and can't evem be smelling them or else I will already get extremely sick. I had to sit at the bar, and the person next to me ordered a crepe with fresh bananas, so I needed to go sit somewhere else or leave. There were no other seats at the bar, and even in this allergy context, the restaurant hosts wouldn't let me sit at a table (and I explained the situation), even though there were a couple of small empty tables at that time. So I left. I have no idea about the food quality, but I think that places that take this view and policy toward people with serious allergies should not be supported.

Yelp
I enjoyed lunch at Pauley's recently, and it was a cool experience. My friend and I sat at the bar for lunch. I chose the club sandwich, which came with chips. I was a little surprised because it came with a full chicken breast and a slice of country ham. I guess I was expecting deli sliced meats as I'm used to. It was good, but I'd probably get the chicken salad sandwich on a future visit. My friend had the cheesesteak sandwich and says it was excellent. Service was friendly and good, and it was nice to explore downtown Athens!

Yelp
Im sad im an alumni and came when I was visiting and this place is going downhill. I saw black mold, staff was vaping in the corner, and the food/drinks were mediocre for the price. My cocktail was all ice...I wouldn't waste your time go to trapeze pub or Paloma park.
google avatar

D T.

Yelp
The food was phenomenal. I had the caprese crepe and will order that again the next time I visit Athens. The Bloody Mary was good. Service was very attentive. Plenty of seating options, cute ambiance.
google avatar

Helena M.

Yelp
I always come to Pauley's after 10 for their drinks. Tends to get packed on certain days which is normal, so seating can be hard to find. But it's such a vibe there. Perfect for mixing and mingling. I've tried a bit of their drink menu--the frosted lemonade, manmosa, and kill eddy's are my fave!
google avatar

Sarah K.

Yelp
I loved my crepe and loved the wine that the server recommended to pair with it! Cute place and thought the crepe was very tasty!

Yelp
Pauley's is known by students as a Sorority hotspot. I once overheard a frat boy giving his parents a tour of downtown Athens and when he passed by Pauley's I overheard him say, "This is Pauley's... it's where the girls go." I went in there yesterday for lunch and it is, indeed, where the girls go. As someone who's not a girl, not in a Sorority, and not even in a Frat, I wasn't sure what I was doing there, but I can't deny that the food was great and the aesthetic was amazing. It was about $12 per savory crepe, which wasn't that bad given they include a ton of meat and ingredients, and our server Julia was super nice and attentive. I see why the Sorority girls eat this place up.
google avatar

Yelp
What a really cute crepe shop! I was in Athens for a event and I ran across this restaurant while in the area. As far as I'm concerned, you can never go wrong with a crepe and the berry compote with whipped cream crepe I had here was just what I needed. Great food, great drinks, great atmosphere, great service! I'll definitely be back when I'm in Athens again.

Rachel C.

Yelp
Pretty good food and good drink deals but the drinks themselves are not my favorite, especially the margs. Mostly go for the vibes and staff is friendly.
google avatar

Thomas R.

Yelp
I've lived in Athens for four years and only now had the opportunity to stop by Pauley's Crepe Bar. Needless to say, I was impressed. My friends and I thoroughly enjoyed the ambience and environment of Pauley's, and the service was great (despite being packed). We all enjoyed our seprate entrée crepes, and our strawberry nutella dessert crepe was delicious as well. It took four years, but I fully understand now why Pauley's is so often raved about.
google avatar

Yelp
Honestly the aesthetic of the food was what enticed me to try. Very pricey for crepes but the taste was decent just wouldn't pay $13 for a crepe. The chicken salad melt was very good though and no complaints about the price to quality about it. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Clean environment with amazing atmosphere.
google avatar

Rachel L.

Yelp
Excellent sweet and savory crepe choices - and lots more! Sandwiches and salads galore, with friendly service to match.
google avatar

James H.

Yelp
Really good food, interesting and unique menu, fun vibe. The staff is young and energetic. The savory crepes were very good, especially the "lot". Buffalo chicken crepe was a bit heavy on the sauce. But otherwise good. Will be back.

Michael D.

Yelp
Wow delicious and fresh ingredients crepes! Fantastic service and reasonable prices. Would highly recommend.

Yelp
After struggling to find a decent restaurant in Lake Okonee we traveled to Athens to check out the town. Totally cool vibe college town with nice shops and we found Pauly's where I had one of the best Cobb salads ever. Price, quality and service were superb. The crepes looked great as well, will definitely try one if we get back here again.
google avatar

Lauren B.

Yelp
The chicken chops are definitely the best thing on the menu!!! This is definitely a bar//drinking atmosphere so I would not come here with a family.

Bowen M.

Yelp
This place has mediocre service at best, their crepes are sub par and to be honest if you are going to trivia don't bother, Paloma has trivia the same night and are actual honest people.

LaVaughn M.

Yelp
We came downtown for the G-Day game. Went into Pauley's ready to spend money on food and beverages. There were multiple empty tables but they refused to sit us but because there were only three of us and they said the empty tables were for parties larger than three. One of the tables was a four seater, which we pointed out, and the hostess still refused to sit us. All I could think of was the loss of revenue just because they refused to sit people who had small parties. Last time I'll go there.

Catherine J.

Yelp
I've eaten here several times and I would say this place is average and very hyped. It's a popular restaurant among college students so it does get really busy and loud during lunch and dinner hours on Thursdays, Fridays, and the weekends. If you're a party of two, you will be seated at the table near the window or at the bar. If they're full, you will have to wait since the tables across the bar are reserved for larger parties. I've tried their veggie meatball crepe and southwest crepe. The first time I had the veggie meatball was amazing. It was very flavorful. However, it lacked flavor the second time I had it. I've also tried their southwest crepe and it was average. The chicken lacked flavor. I also substituted the cheese for more lettuce, but I was unfortunately charged extra. Overall I wouldn't come back again since I don't think the food quality matches the price. I would say try it and see what you think.
google avatar

Riya P.

Yelp
First time going to Pauley's and will be back! The atmosphere was super casual and I loved all the frames on the wall, totally a good time passer reading all of the funny captions. I ordered the veggie meatball crepe and it was pretty good and filling. The caprese crepe honestly just tasted like a quesadilla and was more of a snack than an entree. Not a huge fan of the savory crepes at all. However, the apple pie crepe was delicious and I would definitely go back just for the dessert crepes. The crepe itself on both savory and dessert crepes were perfectly made and paper thin. I also tried the honeysuckle raspberry lemonade martini which was decorated perfectly and tasted just like the name! The servers were also not the friendliest bunch, but could've just been an off day. Overall, I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a good drink or yummy dessert.
google avatar

Josh C.

Yelp
Pauley's is an Athens institution. The bar stretches all the way down one side of the restaurant. High ceilings and lots of natural light make it a really nice place to eat. The veggie sandwich is solid, if a little small. The S'mores crepe is good, but the marshmallows should be a bit more melted.
google avatar

Christina C.

Yelp
Tried this place twice and was disappointed each time. Drinks weren't great or and I ordered the apple pie crepe which really lacked any flavor. The second time around I tried their Philly cheesesteak since I didn't like the crepe last time. The Philly cheesesteak was the worst thing I've ever had... I wouldn't even consider it to be a Philly cheesesteak because it reminded me of a sloppy Joe. The horse radish dip was the only thing that saved my meal from being a complete waste. I wanted to like this place since the ambiance is nice but I highly doubt I'll ever return.

Yelp
I'm going to defend this place with my life. I both ate here and used the restaurant for a project for my major. Their sweet and savory crepes both hit the spot. I moved away from Athens months ago and I still crave the honey mustard they give with their savory crepes. They stuff those things FULL every time. I couldn't love this restaurant more. Owner is kind and approachable, staff is college kids and people hired from halfway houses. They turn into a bar late into the night; I'm not a big drinker, so I can't vouch for anything after their normal hours. Do yourself a favor and go during a weekday, there's no crowd, you get your food quick, and the servers get you in and out. Read the plaques on the wall while you pass the time!
google avatar

Stephanie V.

Yelp
One of my fav places in Athens! Such good food and drinks! The southwest and the bulldawg are the best savory crepes and the banana foster crepe is a great dessert. I always get the Brie appetizer or the chicken t-words lol. Great beer and drink selection! Definitely a must try
google avatar

Molly J.

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick sweet tooth fix. My son and I shared the strawberry Nutella crepe. It was everything we wanted it to be! The crepe was slightly thicker than other crepes we've had, but it was a nice filling bite. Absolutely we will be back to try more of the menu!
google avatar

Margot T.

Yelp
I've been to Pauley's a few times now. A lot of good things - delicious crepes, pretty good cocktails (even better when they're half off!), fun server, great location. They were able to accommodate a group of 11 by splitting us into two groups next to each other - totally understandable. However, the two hostesses up front were unnecessarily rude throughout the process of getting our tables. Once we were seated, the rest of the experience was lovely! I had the Key Lime Martini and the Lott Crepe. The Lott crepe is absolutely delicious! It was recommended to me by a Yelp Elite member, and she did NOT steer me wrong. Once you get past the gatekeepers at the host stand, it is a lovely experience!
google avatar

Karrie Z.

Yelp
Pauley's is the spot to be on any night of the week. I always come here with friends to grab a cocktail and I must say the frosted lemonade is THE BEST. It tastes like ChickFilA's version but with booze so what's not to like? Also the portion sizes here are generous :,) I got the southwest crepe and it was more than enough for dinner. They also have sweet crepes which I am coming back to try sometime soon. They are also open late which makes this a college town staple!

Tori M.

Yelp
Service was okay, had to wait for a table as a four top even though there were a couple of five tops available the whole time we waited. My first sandwich (a grilled cheese) came out burnt on both sides and when I sent it back the next one came out not even melted raw. Un grilled cheese. Someone in the kitchen felt petty and I understand they're busy but this place has gone down hill very quickly over the years. Won't be coming back. Overall the place seems like it's run by 18 year olds (in a bad way).

Molly H.

Yelp
Crepes and food are good, drinks are better. However, service sucks! But that's ok, just know before you go that you'll probably be hanging out for a while. Grab a few extra drinks and it'll all be good.
google avatar

Murilo F.

Yelp
Food is good, not amaZing, but good. But service was spotless. Ambiance is good for group gatherings, loud music, college kids, not much of a family place. Will come back.

Shanky S.

Yelp
Ok. So I love pauleys. Servers, hostesses, bar, atmosphere, manager, ... they all kill it. But the chicken salad absolutely not worth eating. First meal I've had there in many I was disappointed with. Also with the cheesesteak, forget the steak seasoning and just go plain steak. Great meal. Biggest in Athens but forget the steak sauce flavor. Love you guy and will be back for sure. Please take their criticism as positive feedback.
google avatar

Camille A.

Yelp
My roommate and I came here after lunch, atmosphere is loud but comfortable and nice, it took a while to get seated. It also took a while to get served, even when it was not busy, but the staff were friendly and funny. We ordered the s'mores crepe and it was delicious!! These are easily shareable and I highly recommend.

Jake B.

Yelp
I come here quite often around the weekends for brunch and maybe some drinks. The service at the bar is really good, however the hostesses that have worked here are really stuck up a lot of the times. And act like some people don't belong in here. However our waitress Val was very polite and was a great service to us.
google avatar

Big D.

Yelp
None of the staffs here are wearing masks and it's kinda pack. The food was good but took the waiter forever to come. He didn't even give us silverware until the last second. The dip was ok but not worth $7! The mimosa was $2 on Sunday and it was pretty good!
google avatar

Amanda S.

Yelp
My absolute favorite restaurant in Athens! The first week I moved in, my roommate and I decided to go to Pauley's as our first Athens restaurant experience, and the place stuck with me for all 4 years. The crepes are so creative and tasty, the vibe is super chill, and the drinks are fantastic! Pauley's is the place to go for any occasion regardless if you want food, drinks, or even just dessert.
google avatar

Yelp
Interesting and unique in Athens area. Savory and dessert crepes downtown -also sandwiches, salads, and appetizers Food: 4/5 The crepes are very good. We liked the Lott and Bulldawg;, the salads are large and tasty; in our opinion-the desserts crepes are the best crepes-Nutella peanut butter or bananas foster are very good. Good wine and beer lists. Service: 5/5. Very good service. However, we have only been there when it's half full -so we don't know about service at night or on busy football weekends Location : 3/5. Conveniently on the main downtown street -Clayton Street, for those walking from the university or for downtown workers, but parking is on the street, limited, with meters, so it's often inconvenient for drivers. Facility : 4/5 Nicely remodeled to a modern facade and dining tables/stools in an old building. Clean and well kept. Price: $7-11 for appetizers $9-12 for lunch crepes. No sides included Best beverage prices :: Thurs 1/2 off wine and martinis and beers And Mon-Weds 1/2 bottles of wine and $1 off beer. (It's a college town, after all! )

Yelp
We finally got a chance to check this place out today, (Jan 31) and had a great experience. It wasn't super busy (4:30 on a Friday) and we got our drinks promptly, and didn't have to wait too long for our food, either. The cocktails are so good. I got the Hershey's double chocolate martini, and my husband got the bourbon cocktail with orange bitters and ginger ale. (Can't remember the name). I'm not a fan of ginger so I didn't enjoy his, but he loVed it. My Martini was decadent. Husband's Greek crepe was HUGE. I don't quite understand the reviews saying the servings were small. I decided on a dessert crepe, bananas foster, and LOVED IT.
google avatar

Jenny R.

Yelp
Pauley's is fantastic! One of the coolest bars with the best food! I love their chicken salad! The staff is awesome. This place is a must when you're in Athens and you want the real independent dinning experience!

Amanda U.

Yelp
Tried this place a couple of times and honestly it's very overhyped. Last time I came in, I wanted to try a cosmopolitan and it tasted so bad I had to send it back. It makes me think if these bartenders are actually legit bartenders or not. The food is not that great either, I had the Philly cheesesteak crepe, super soggy and took forever to come out. as for service, this place seems like it's ran by 18 year olds (literally)
google avatar

Wissal E.

Yelp
We were so excited about trying this place.. However, our experience was very unpleasant! We ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich, the chicken salad sandwich and the Cuban sandwiches. And then, we got the strawberry banana Nutella crêpe and bananas frost crêpe for dessert. 1/ I got really sick from the buffalo chicken sandwich. the sandwich tasted like something you'd whip up when you open your fridge and all you got is leftover rotisserie chicken and a bottle of buffalo sauce.. It took my stomach a full day to recover. nasty! 2/The other two sandwiches were "meh", according to my company. The bread was hot dog bun-quality.. nothing special as far as flavor and quality. 3/ the crêpes were not too bad but they were not great either. The taste of the nutmeg was too overpowering and the crepe batter itself was not light and fluffy. The whipped cream on top was half melted. On the positive side, the service was on point. Will I go back? Nope.. it had me spending the rest of my visit to see off my freshman to college in the bathroom. Not good, Pauley!

Maggie H.

Yelp
Very unsatisfied. They told me they ran out of sweet tea. They should be making tea continuously throughout the shifts. It takes no more than 10 minutes to brew the tea.
google avatar

Stephanie P.

Yelp
Just went here on a Sunday evening (today). Had a seat at the bar immediately. Very odd experience as we sat there for 15 minutes and had 2 different bartenders walk in front of us and we were trying to make eye contact to get them to take our order and they pretended we weren't there. Kept waiting and when one of them started playing on his phone instead of waiting on us we left. Super sad because crepes are a fav of mine and the menu looked cool. We walked out due to no service.

Kyle M.

Yelp
Good college atmosphere but the food is incredibly average. The chicken chops are really good and highly recommend with a beer. Better places in Athens to get lunch or dinner
google avatar

Taylor L.

Yelp
We enjoyed the caprese crepe with chicken and the bananas foster crepe. Both were so good! We also had the terrapin dip, but that was nothing great. Would easily recommend this place, but would recommend trying a different appetizer.
google avatar

Teresa V.

Yelp
The first time I went here, I only ate the crepes which were amazing. Then I recently came back and the crepes were okay but not as good as I remembered. I've had better crepes but the main problem with them were how sweet they were. It was an overwhelming sweet not like most pastries should be. I got the bananas foster while my friend got the strawberry nutella. I personally thought the banana one was better because they added too much Nutella which intensified the sweetness. Probably would rate 3/5 But the crepes weren't the reason why I give this restaurant a 2/5. We also ordered an appetizer called Terrapin Dip which was one of the best dishes according to the waitress. At first the dish was tolerable, slightly good. But then it went downhill from there. The crackers were as hard as a rock and the dip was okay but basic. Not only that but the crackers were also strongly salted which turned me off towards the whole dish. The service was nice and average but the food was below par. I would not return unless I had a really strong craving for crepes and nowhere else can substitute.
google avatar

Yelp
Yay really enjoyed this place! This is the first dedicated crepe bar I went to; they should definitely open more of these! I came here for lunch during a healthcare conference in Athens, after hearing recommendations from friends that have been here before. Walking in, you'd be greeted by the friendly staff, and the blue walls with the newspaper clippings and the wooden tables and chairs. My other friends went for the typical sweet crepes with nutella and strawberries, but since it was lunchtime, I went for the Buffalo Chicken crepe out of curiosity. To sum it up, it was classy, yet trashy. The buffalo chicken is reminiscent of your typical bar wings, with the spicy and vinegar-y taste to it. The shredded lettuce gives it a crunch, and the umami from the tomatoes helped it too. The crepe brought the whole concoction together, kinda resembling a buffalo chicken wrap. To top it off, it was covered with hot sauce and ranch. Next time I'm in Athens, I'll definitely come here again. It would be a 4-star review, but I tacked on the extra star because of the atmosphere and the minimalist interior of the store. Wholeheartedly recommend this establishment.

Yelp
Stopped here during a college visit. The staff are friendly, the place looks clean and the food was fantastic. I ordered the Apple Pie crepes. I was worried that the portion size was going to be too large, but it was perfect. The crepes were warm and delicious, with REAL diced Apple inside (NOT compote), and the perfect amount of cinnamon and sugar. I would get them again in an instant. Some of the best crepes I've ever had!! Others in my group ordered the peanut butter crepes and chicken salad sandwich. All were reported as being tasty and worth the stop. The acoustics in the place are poor, so it's hard to hold a conversation with those as your own table. Not sure what can be done about that, but we managed. It looks like they have a great beer selection, but we didn't try them tonight.

C H.

Yelp
I love the menu. I tried the Brie and Apple sandwich which was fantastic. My daughter had the strawberry and Nutella crepe and she said it was amazing. DH ordered the Bulldawg crepe, which he could barely finish. Service was on point.
