I think the quality of the food was a bit better when it was called Pennys Noodle under old management but still not bad. The staff is very friendly as it was before.

Great little place with a nice selection. Prices are fantastic.

Google
Very flavorful broth and perfectly cooked noodles and veggies make for a great soup.

Google
Great little corner noodle shop. I had the vegetable noodles which were delightful. The noodles are very good and incredible at the price point (you can get a full meal for about 10$). I've had noodles twice the price that weren't nearly as good. Overall, 10/10 experience.

Google
My new favorite Noodle Shop! With a name like Paul's Noodle Shop, I thought I HAVE to give this place a try. Don't let the name fool you, these guys absolutely know how to make fantastic food! I've been here 3 times, gotten 3 different dishes and each has been so delicious!

Google
Very cute shop in a semi-sketchy part of town, but that just adds to it's aesthetic. I could totally see this shop in a movie where the protagonist goes for a peaceful lunch (only to be interrupted by the regular subway train that passes overhead, again, it adds to the overall art of the place). Great place for food too! Definitely has some amazing eats!

Google
T'is the season to have allergies (and other various forms of spring sickness). This cute noodle nook fed my soul with some quick ramen. It was definitely quick since we were served within minutes, but also quick because the noodles themselves were not homemade which was the only downfall. the broth was just perfect to my palate (not too salty, spicy and intense), it required minimal cool down eaten within a couple of blows, lots of noodles, juicy meat, and leftovers for later! I've had expensive ramen, some were on par, others not so much. But for $10.95, you get what you paid for and it is pretty good for the affordable price! Service was on the fast lane, friendly staff, simple and clean interior, convenient location, and the noise from the train was barely noticeable once we got to chewing. Overall, I'd probably return and try the crispy seaweed roll recommended by the server.

Google
Great little restaurant. They have the best curry puffs I have ever tasted they are delicious! Had to take an order to go with me. I would recommend anybody who loves Thai food to come check this place out.

Yelp
I love this spot! It's been on my list to try for a while just because of how cozy it looks from the outside and it matches that energy inside as well. Walking through the doors it feels like you're walking into someone's kitchen. The servers and staff were very welcoming and accommodating when we needed to combine a table for our slightly larger group. I loved the food here. I ordered the Pad Thai, which I've ordered at a lot of thai places and this was was definitely a winner. The group I was with ordered the Fried Rice, Wonton Soup, Hot Pepper Noodles, and the Chicken Noodle Soup and everyone loved their order. This is such an amazing neighborhood spot! Really warmed me up on a cold January night

Caleb J.

Yelp
Love love love the atmosphere in here! It's very cozy and a BYOB is always fun :) The servers here were very nice to us and even showed off in their kitchen while we were sitting nearby. Very intricate dining place here and the food is great! Warm environment here and since it's so cold lately, it's nice to warm up in here. Definitely would come back!!

Yelp
This place used to be so good but It was awful this visit My cousin and his friend were in town visiting from Washington. My cousin's favorite cuisine is Thai. I Used to go here back when there were more locations and it was delicious then so I suggested it This smaller location I believe is the last one left. Small little spot under the L Everything was so bland. My cousins's friend ordered the red curry. My cousin and I ordered the chicken pad Thai. There were literally four tiny pieces of chicken in my whole pad Thai dish.I should've said something. It was so upsetting instead of doing the right thing and sending everything back we didn't say anything and even took it to go. I was embarrassed and didn't want to in front of out of town guests but we were all displeased and I should have. We gave it away on the way home. My Cousin wanted more salt or msg. To want more at an Asian restaurant is mind blowing. The only thing that was good Was Thai ice tea and crab Rangoon. The server was good and attentive and asked us how everything was. I didn't want to deal with it and that's my fault for not telling her how terrible everything was but I was embarrassed and didn't want to in front of out of town guests. We shouldn't have taken anything to go. We should've literally sent it back It was not worth it sadly, all that was left to take was noodles. You fell off big time Penny's. Shame on yall for the amount of chicken to noodles sad to even have to give this rating but I do. I just started making chicken pad Thai I've made the dish a couple of times myself and though it's a little laborious mine is 100 times better. I will never be back.

Maria E.

Yelp
While the service was awesome, and the flavor of my dish was great, (ordered the Panang Curry), the chicken was sadly soooo overcooked that it tasted gross. My friend's chicken was also super tough and chewy. I would go back and give it another try as I think it's a cute neighborhood spot...but yeah that chicken wasn't it.

Clay G.

Yelp
I've been wanting to come to Penny's for a while since I'm always in the area. With a hankering for some noodles, I finally made my way over. I got the spicy sesame ramen. It was a little spicy without being overwhelming. The portion size was large and prices were fair. The outdoor seating was also lovely for an early fall night. I hope to be back again in the future.

Jeremy B.

Yelp
Penny's has been around forever and we just finally got around to try it despite living near by. It's essentially your standard small Thai Chicago restaurant. The food was decent but the interior was somewhat lacking and the service a little spotty. I had the Lad Nar which is a new dish for me - it had a gravy that was tasty but then proceeded to make the noodles super soggy. Not really my jam...but decent enough I would come back to try other things. Potstickers were delish! They are BYOB which is nice, too.

Neha A.

Yelp
Excellent! Cozy atmosphere with friendly service. Loved the quaint neighborhood-restaurant vibe. I had the chicken satay and hot pepper noodle with tofu - both excellent. Big portions at a reasonable price too. Highly recommend!

Serena M.

Yelp
The servers were really nice and I really liked the noodle dish I got. The place was perfect for a casual dinner.

Jada C.

Yelp
I always loved small places like this. I always appreciated the authentic spices, aroma, and taste of Thai and other south East Asian foods. Joseph suggested we come here for dinner. Glad we came here. I ordered the vegetarian bowl. It came with warm fragrant rice noodles, green onions, julienne carrots, red cabbage, mung beans, cilantro, spicy tofu, crushed peanuts, and a slice of lime. The vegetarian bowl tasted divine! The kitchen staff captured all the flavors I expected from a first class Thai restaurant. Joseph ordered the chicken soup. He said it tasted fine. Penny's Noodle Shop felt cozy and small. But groups of 4 could fit around the smaller sized tables. I liked the decorations on the wall. They looked fun and adorable. Come and bring friends, family or even a date. I highly recommend Penny's Noodle Shop.

Yelp
My fiancé and I came here on a cold rainy week night when we were too tired to cook and instead decided to walk around the corner and finally try Pennys. Pennys has been on our list for a while but every time we walk by it's swamped. My only critique of the place is I wish it had more seating. The food was quick and I was surprised by the size of the cucumber salad but felt it was the only piece lacking a little. I anticipated more sauce/dressimh but this could be problem and my current mood. The crab rangoons were crispy with a hot and extra creamy filling. It comes with 5 so we fought over the last one. I ordered the spicy bail bowl and when they say spicy, they aren't kidding. The veggies had a nice al dente crunch and the bowl was packed with chicken veggies and noodles. Normally I can finish a meal but this dish was a lot! I'm a bit of a wuss with spice so my eyes were watering but even my spice loving fiancé thought it had a kick. He ordered a ramen which will be my order next time we go as it had such a deep and complex broth that stole the show. Overall, it seems like you can't order wrong here and I can wait to update my review with even more dishes.

Yelp
When I lived in Chicago I lived right around the corner from Penny's which is in a comfy little spot right near the curve of the Ravenswood El in Lakeview. Always a great place with fantastic soups, pad thai and plenty more. When I stopped by this summer, the food was as great as ever, the service was timely and the prices are still reasonable (in an era when every other restaurant's prices have been sky rocketing). Recommend any of the soups, the Pad Thai and the spring rolls.

Annaleigh M.

Yelp
Food: wonderful! Stopped in for a little snack while on a walk. I just got the Thai Spring Rolls appetizer and it filled me right up. Definitely enough for one person as a meal, but they are meant to share as small bites! Service: quick service. No complaints! Both ladies running front of house were very kind and made sure I had everything I needed. Ambiance: small shop with a handful of tables. They move people through fairly quickly, so seating isn't a huge problem. If you have a bigger group, be prepared for a slight wait at peak dinner time!

Ellie S.

Yelp
Delicious food, quick service, & very cozy atmosphere! Great prices, too! Good options for vegetarians.

Claire G.

Yelp
The food was really good, and the shop was very cute and clean. The Pad See Ew was a standout, we left no crumbs.

Karla M.

Yelp
My friend and I were in search of hot ramen on one of the colder days May had to offer. He'd heard good things about Penny's so we decided to try it. I ordered the wonton soup dinner and he had the tonkatsu ramen. Both looked great and mine had lots of flavor but I was not a huge fan of the pork. His review of the tonkatsu was that it was just average. That being said, we heard the pad thai is amazing so might have to try that next time. Overall, friendly service and good experience!

Yelp
I went to Penny's on Saturday around 3pm for an early dinner. It was great!! I went with a group of 3. I was intrigued to come because of reviews and driving pass. I also saw that they had gluten free options - woohoo! Service was wonderful. The staff is small, but on top of the tables, customers and timeliness. We did not have any long wait times. The food was so flavorful. I was obsessed with each bite and the serving sizes were huge!!! I had my left overs later that night and it was still so so good. I'm already craving Penny's and ready to go back!! I recommend!!!

Yelp
Game went from 2p start to the right at 4p. Got to the Ivy Parking lot at 2:30p and walked across the street to Penny's Noodle Shop to wait out the heavy downpour. It's right under the L train. Ordered some ramen because it's ramen weather and green Thai beef curry since I haven't had some in awhile. Hopefully this weather lets up by 6p. What turned out to be a day game looks to be a night game. First one at Wrigley. To my stepdad Robert VOELKER, wish you were here but ty for having the big guy stop the rains.

Yelp
Here is another place you can say is cute inside and has a cozy feeling. It wasn't the place we intended to go, but we're glad it became it. Penny's Noodle Shop of course says what their specialty is right there. Anyone not knowing what to get should try noodles of course. The prices aren't bad for the amount that comes in the bowls or on plates. Being the first time here, we went with the obvious choice. It was of course recommended to get something with noodles. There was a good amount to choose from though. It was hard at first. There's a lot to choose from, which is surprising because this is a small place so there's limited space. I had the Vegetarian Bowl. It's about $10 for a bowl full of vegetables and protein. This came with bean sprouts, carrots, cilantro, green onions, lettuce, lime, peanuts, red cabbage, thin rice noodles, and tofu. It had a mild spice. She had the Hot Pepper Noodle with tofu. It had quite a spice to it. There was lots more to choose from, but that had to wait for later. Good place for Asian food. It's under the Brown Line tracks so you have the trains rumble over the place every now and then, but you'll get used to it. The place is pretty small, but there's a humongous amount of choices, including many for vegans and vegetarians.

Noelle L.

Yelp
There is something to be said about twenty years of consistency!that's how long I've been bopping into Penny's and it's just as delicious as the first time. For me this is Thai comfort food. Tons of vegetarian and vegan options. The Thai fried rice was pretty spicy so be aware. It's a small dine-in space but tables turn over quickly. Staff are awesomely prompt.

Alyssa G.

Yelp
Food was so flavorful and the noddles were just perfection. Service was quick and she was super nice. I'll definitely go again!

Arturo A.

Yelp
Crab Rangoon is pretty damn good. And the fried rice? Fuhgettaboutit. So damn good i want to throw it up just to taste it again.

Aleah H.

Yelp
Penny's gives off the coziest vibes with all of their string lights in the window, so we decided to stop in for dinner on a cold Wednesday evening! We were seated quickly without a reservation. Their menu had so many options that sounded unique and more intriguing than Pad Thai, so it was genuinely difficult to decide on dinner! I think we'll return just to try more of the menu!! We finally decided on the gyoza, five pepper shrimp, and spicy basil chicken. All of them were super flavorful and tasty, but note the spice levels are not a joke. We thoroughly enjoyed it all, but also drank lots of water while we ate. The five pepper shrimp was unlike anything I'd had at other Thai places, but the shrimp was amazing and the rice was nice and sticky!! The gyoza was more crunchy/fried than steamed, but tasty nonetheless! Only odd thing was the served it with forks rather than chopsticks which made things a bit difficult. The spicy basil chicken was the perfect comfort food in the moment- steaming noodles with hearty chicken and basil to make it fresh! Plus it's a large serving so even the leftovers were great!!

Brooke L.

Yelp
YES Penny's Noodle Shop is open! This place used to be a staple for my fiancé back when he was growing up and we were pleasantly surprised to see that they have re-opened. Clearly, we were out of the loop! Some of the best Pad Thai I've ever had. I loved the large amount of cabbage, cilantro, and bean sprouts. Hearty portions, you could probably share but why would you ever want to?! We also had the Pad Lad Nar which was equally delicious. The noodles are a bit larger and therefore can get really crispy and fried on the ends. Get the vegetable egg rolls for an appetizer. This place did not disappoint!

Nelson R.

Yelp
updating to five stars after a few more visits. great spot for quick and tasty noodles, and i'm really feeling the low-key chill old time diner vibes of the place under the train tracks. service continues to be quick and very pleasant.

Jeanette P.

Yelp
Delicious food. Loved the crispy tools and Tom Kha Kai soup. And they turned off the tinny sounding music outside at my request.

Mario J.

Yelp
I LOVE this place!!! The environment is super chilled, the menu is basic yet plentiful, and the freaking LABNAR is OUTSTANDING!!! I flew all the way from LA to enjoy this dish!!! I can't imagine coming to this great city without eating at Penny's. The service is also great, as the folks are warm, friendly, and accommodating. You won't be disappointed.

Sarah P.

Yelp
One of the best food spots I've been to here in Chicago. The star was definitely the 5 spice shrimp. Spicy but just balanced sweet with a great little salad and a heap of rice. Very cozy atmosphere. Love the sound of a wok. The food came out so fast straight off the press. And the prices were extremely reasonable. Will definitely be frequenting this spot. They do charge a 4% credit and debit fee fyi.

Liz M.

Yelp
Such a great spot for fresh, tasty Thai. I've had takeout from here a number of times and it's been fantastic every time. There's something for everyone, and the ingredients are always fresh. Everything is very flavorful. Be warned that their spicy is actually spicy, more than most Thai food. I'm especially partial to their shrimp pad Thai but fried rice, chicken satay, spring rolls, and everything else have all been great. Definitely will order from here again.

David R.

Yelp
Authentic Thai dishes, friendly staff, affordable prices, what's there not to love? I got the green curry and was blown away, I highly recommend this place to any Thai lovers!

Jeremy T.

Yelp
Had an outstanding, delicious lunch here. The service was friendly and prompt. I ordered the Vietnamese spring rolls. They were fresh, light and filled with several different overlapping flavors--including a little heat. The sauce was yummy and had chunks of peanut. The pad thai was great. I ordered it with vegetables. It came in an enormous portion, piled high with fresh cabbage and bean sprouts. The major vegetable was gai lan, which made me so happy because it's my favorite. The dish came with a side of hot sauce, which came in handy. I loved every bite of my lunch.

Joe C.

Yelp
I love this place and it's really cute and convenient next to the major Belmont junction and Wrigley field. Situation on a picturesque triangle corner lot with Al Fresca dining and a whimsical overpass, great to get photos with train. Then you go inside to be met with a quaint dining area with a open kitchen full of aromas of pan-Asian cuisine. They have a great variety of Chinese, Thai, and other dishes from the region. All well prepared with generous portions. One of my favorite dining spots in the area. Nice date nite bite to eat.

Thomas C.

Yelp
Great food (Pad Thai w Chicken)! Fast, friendly service. Not a ton of seating, but we there were multiple tables available when we got here at 6:30 on a Thursday.

Kyle G.

Yelp
First time for take out. Ingredients were fresh and order took less than 15 minutes. I will be ordering again. Thank you!

Whitney O.

Yelp
DROOLING! Now I've had ALOT of Thai food... & let me tell you! Penny's Noodle Shop makes DELICIOUS, authentic Thai food. I was beyond pleased with the flavors. I could eat here everyday! If you want true Thai food, go to Penny's Noodle Shop! The shop is super cute and in the most perfect location. The shape of the building is so unique, I just love everything about it! When you go, try the: - Gai Kra Praow (Chicken basil w/rice) **Pro-Tip: Add a fried egg!** - Chicken Satay - Tom Yum Soup - Spicy Beef Salad - Thai Iced Tea & Coffee (Bruh..)

Kira B.

Yelp
Not usually a huge fan of this type of cuisine, but was pleasantly surprised. I had the fried rice and it was great. Small place but great food.

Allie M.

Yelp
Penny's is a great spot for a quick noodle fix! Everything my fiancé and I have had here has been delicious -- especially the hot pepper noodle and pad se eu. The space itself is small but really unique, and I think it actually adds to the experience. Also, everyone who works here is always so kind. Looking forward to going back and trying more of their menu!

Jina Z.

Yelp
Cute interior, cozy vibes, and friendly/efficient service! Penny's has a pretty extensive menu of not only Thai and other Asian noodle dishes but also appetizers, rice dishes, and more. The pad see ew had a good texture and amount of meat/veggies, although slightly too sweet for my taste. Adding the chili sauce they provide at the table helped balance the sweetness out! Would definitely come back and try more of the menu items

Ben H.

Yelp
Phenomenal restaurant. Fast and friendly service! Delicious and fresh. Great local feel inside and seeing the kitchen make it happen.

Drew F.

Yelp
Good Pad Se Eww & Pad Thai. Tasty Crispy Rolls. Fast service. Friendly staff. Ordered take out but seating dine in available.

Debra K.

Yelp
The taste of the food is not like it was 20yrs ago. It was much more authentic and appetizing. But the service is nice and friendly. The environment around the restaurant is a bit scary because of the train traffic.

Al B.

Yelp
I have been going to penny's for years. Great food at a very reasonable price. Very good pad Thai but try some of the other dishes as well. They do some very good pork and even very good tofu. Will be back

Brennan B.

Yelp
Great Thai place in Chicago a few blocks from Wrigley. There were six of us and we tried a little bit of everything. The Lad Nar was a winner!

Margaret G.

Yelp
Penny's is SO good! Always super quick and friendly service. Anything on the menu is delicious but I especially love the sesame ramen and wonton soup. The portions are big, I love getting takeout on the weekends from there.

Brooke R.

Yelp
Cute little restaurant in wrigleyville! I got the green curry while my friend got the red curry. Both were phenomenal. The gyoza was perfectly made. While we had the food to go the interaction with the staff when picking it up was great. Staff is kind and immediately greeted us upon entry making us feel welcomed. I will be coming here again and again!

Aaron B.

Yelp
Ordered the pad see ew not sure there was any effort put into making it, if there was, I couldn't tell. Didn't taste good, didn't look good. And why is it $1 to add tofu . Nothing about this place is appealing needless to say; I won't be returning.

Dan J.

Yelp
Very homey spot with an open kitchen style and ample seating. The menu is very diverse and includes not only Thai but also some Viet and Japanese options including bahmi and sushi. We ordered the fried tofu and the viet spring rolls both of which were deliciously paired with sauce and a great opener. I had the pad see ew and although it was filling, I found the sauce to be too sweet and the large noodles cut too thin and small. Definitely a filling meal but likely won't be coming back.

Freja J.

Yelp
Excellent for take out. Owners take very good care to ensure food is fresh. Portions are big so great for sharing. Recommend the wonton soup, curry dishes and the Vietnamese spring roles.

Lauren Z.

Yelp
Pretty sure I'm the biggest Penny's stan there ever was. They closed this location for several years and to say I was disappointed is an understatement. Like the worst forced break up of all time! Not dramatic at all. Food still tastes the same as I remembered it. All the other locations(which wicker and Lakeview have both closed and oak park is still open) just didn't quite hit the same. Gyoza is my all time favorite. It's a must. Anything from their lad nar to their sliced beef to their pad se eu is phenomenal. I am also a fan of their five pepper shrimp with rice(get it with brown rice instead of white) is delectable and super spicy! They jacked up their prices but I have ZERO complaints. Did I mention BYOB? Yeahhhh. Glad you're back in my life ::inserts heart emojis::

Laura D.

Yelp
I stopped in this place for the first time today. I read the reviews and they were good. I was looking forward to what I ordered. I ordered crab Rangoon and Thai fried rice with shrimp. Sad to say I was disappointed. The crab Rangoon shell was different from any other crab Rangoon I've had and the crab had no taste. The rice was made spicy as I asked but I did not find the food tasty. Nice unique small place and very clean. Person who took my order was very nice. I won't be returning.
