The 9 Best Bakeries and Cafes for Meat Pies Near Atlanta | Eater Atlanta

"Once a full-service restaurant since its earliest days in 1984, this Marietta institution now focuses solely on its signature pies. Each one is meticulously crafted — par-cooked for depth of flavor, filled to the brim, and sealed with a flaky crust marked by a flower cutout. They offer fillings like a Cajun-inspired Jambalaya with shrimp and Italian sausage to Sloppy Joe, Southwest Taco, Barbecue Pork, and Beef Stroganoff complete with noodles. Standouts include the Chicken Philly, with onions and bell peppers combined with Swiss cheese sauce, and the Curry Chicken, loaded with white meat chicken, peas, carrots, broccoli, and rice in a curry powder spiced sauce. There are two locations in Marietta and Kennesaw, respectively." - Nandita Godbole

Google
I'm so glad I took a chance on Paul's Pot Pie! Initially, I was skeptical, but the friendly owner's enthusiasm was infectious. He explained that the pot pies are frozen, but incredibly easy to make - just one simple step: oven and done! As a first-time pot pie tryer, I opted for the seafood option (being from the island, it was a must-try!). I was blown away by the flavor and generosity of the filling. The seasoning was perfect, and the amount of meat was surprisingly generous. For the price, I was thoroughly impressed. I'll definitely be back to try more flavors! Highly recommend Paul's Pot Pie - give it a try, you won't be disappointed!

Google
Take home these frozen uncooked beauties and baked in an hour for dinner. Great for gifts or an easy supper meal. There are 2 sizes so you can try different ones. My favorites are the BBQ and Curry Chicken. This is a walk in, grab, and bake at home. Small space and not fancy, but you don't need any more than that! Great to keep in freezer for the days when you want warm co fort food and don't have the energy to make it. Pop in oven and bake. Check out the menu on website for the Pot Pie Flavors.

Google
Saw that this place was picked as the best pot pie place by Atlanta Eats and Yahoo and went to try it. Paul was very nice and friendly. The pot pies are great- crispy and buttery crust, savory filling with lots of meat!! I got shepherd's pie and chicken pot pie. Can't wait to try other flavors!!

Google
Cute little shop with the menu posted really big on your right when you walk in. Not a whole lot in there since all they really sell are pot pies. There is a ramp to walk up when you come through the door. The lady who helped me explained each pie, pricing, and how to cook it. The pies ARE NOT cooked! You have to do that. But it's so super easy and they come out amazing! I got the Shepherd's pie. It was so so good. The crust is perfectly flaky. My husband and son really enjoyed it too. I will definitely be coming back to try more pies!

Google
I drove by this place the other day and couldn’t wait to try! I love Chicken Pot Pie so finding this gem was exciting. I was pleasantly surprised when I looked at their menu and saw a wide array of different Pies. I ordered the Chicken Curry Pie to try something different than the traditional. The employee that took my order was very nice and helpful and explained how to cook the dish accordingly. After trying the chicken curry my only note would be that it was drier than what I’m used to with traditional pot pie. The flavor was amazing for sure, but consistency-wise I’m used to more of a runny inside. Otherwise will recommend and buy in the future.

Google
Visited Paul’s Pot Pies for the first time today and had a great experience. The person assisting me was super helpful and gave me great tips for cooking the pie. He recommended cooking it frozen, placing the pie directly on the wire rack, putting an empty pan on the bottom of the oven (to catch any drippings) and watching for golden crust. I got the jambalaya pie and it was yummy! Lots of shrimp, sausage and chicken are packed into the pie. It’s definitely a hearty, filling meal. Can’t wait to try the other pies.

Google
This place provides the best take home & bake pot pies you could ever want. They are delicious and the # of choices is great! It’s not an ear in place.

Google
Stopped in and thought we would be buying lunch but was told they were all frozen so we bought one to go for dinner. Lots of filling but crust on the chicken pie is made with oil not butter and tastes a bit like popcorn, and it's mostly filled with frozen peas and carrots mix. Only seasoned with salt & pepper so we had to zip ours up... Disappointed after seeing all the high ratings. They could be using wonderful seasoning like thyme and marjoram etc...

Yelp
Got the 6 inch classic chicken pot pie just to try it. It was good but I don't think it was outstanding. Probably wouldn't go again but glad I tried it as I always see it in Marietta square.

Yelp
I purchased two pot pies here-chicken curry and turkey. The pies were $13 each and require an hour plus each when baking from frozen. The crust was flaky and there was ample filling. The chicken curry could have benefited from some more spice. Bring cash as the store will charge you a credit card surcharge. Parking is a bit difficult on narrow streets.

Yelp
We have been quite impressed with these pies! I was a little worried about how it would taste coming from a FREEZER but they actually cook perfectly. So far we have tried the pot roast, beef stroganoff, and Italian sausage. They've all been pretty good but our favorite was the probably the beef stroganoff. It didn't have as many noodles as we were expecting so that wound up being effect. We are two adults and typically split a 6" pie and make a salad or a serving of veggies to go with it and it's plenty!

Yelp
Very Disappointing. The Chicken Pot Pie has really gone downhill since my visit a few years ago. The small bright white chicken cubes were tasteless and I'd be surprised if the chicken was cooked in house. The tasteless cubed peas & carrots probably came from a bag. The crust had a slight oil taste and I scraped it off rather than eat it. The small 6 inch pie is only 4 inches across on the bottom and feeds just one person. At $12, I thought it was expensive. (plus add in the cost of heating your oven for 1 1/2 hrs). Sadly, I won't be back.

Yelp
I'm a sucker for a good pot pie. I had super high expectations for this place and they didn't quite stand up. We bought a 10" seafood chowder pie. The filling tastes just like a bowl of chowder, but it was very (very) liquid-y. As a result, when cooked, the pie had an undeniable "soggy bottom". Also, I LOVE pie crust; I don't love theirs. It's very flaky, but it's also most certainly made with shortening as it's missing that scrumptious buttery flavor that I crave from a homemade pie crust. Sorry folks. This one wasn't really worth the carbs or calories.

Yelp
Pot Pies! Who doesn't love pot pies. I've tried 6 of Paul's creations and have always come back to the chicken pot pie! I always get the big one and woof it down in three meals. The attached instructions make his creations a no brainer and take the cooking guessing out of the equation! If you are using a toaster oven, bring down the temp about 5 degrees and bake it for the same amount of time per the instructions. When I'm invited to a friend's house, I like to get several of his small pies to give to my friend. The pies also make great house warming gifts!

Yelp
I finally tried Paul's Pot Pies after seeing his booth at the Halcyon Farmers market many times. I got 3 - 6in. Pies and they were all delicious! We got the Italian sausage, turkey and shepherds pie. My husband loved the sausage and my favorite was the turkey, due to it tasting like an entire thanksgiving plate with cranberries, green beans, and turkey. The shepherds pie could use more salt, but overall they had great flavor. The crust was delicious and flaky. The price is a little high for a 6in pot pie, ($12 with tax) but it is a great meal to have in your freezer when you don't feel like cooking! We will definitely be trying some more flavors at the next farmers market!

Yelp
With the tremendous amount of difficulty I had getting to this place (all streets blocked off), and the square being empty, you would think the guy that worked here would have not been such a giant A-hole. Smart mouth, rushing me, even after I told him it was my first time in. Just not nice. I bought the classic chicken and baked it tonight. Frozen puff pastry, frozen vegetables, not enough sauce and zero flavor. Can you still buy a Banquet Pot Pie with double crust? A much better option. Hey Paul, the guy had a red beard and glasses. How's business since March?
google avatar

Yelp
My sister in law picked up our pot pies and brought to the Blue Ridge mountains and we ate like pigs on them! Not a bad bite! Not a bad pie!! We bought 4 or 5 different ones and they were all superb!!! I wish I had pictures, but you don't need them! Just go in and get you a pie! They are fantastic!!

Yelp
Saw this place on the Travel Channel over the holidays and had to stop by. It was great!!! I didn't know they came frozen so my lunch plans turned into dinner plans but I am an instant fan. Perfect! The crust is so flakey. The inside was rich. My advice, follow the directions on how to cook it. It will save you some time and you can eat it faster.

Robert A.

Yelp
I don't understand the hype. We tried the pot roast and the curry chicken. So bland they didn't even taste like salt. Super dry filling, too much greasy crust. Who puts celery in curry chicken?
google avatar

Jin S.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years. This place has been a godsend during COVID. My husband and I both work from home and it's so easy to pop this in the oven for lunch when we're busy. It takes a little longer in the oven for us than the directions on the pies. My favorite ones are still the seafood chowder and chicken, but the bbq and jambalaya is tasty too. The staff is always nice. Sometimes they have dessert pies which we haven't tried yet. They look tasty though.

Brenda S.

Yelp
Has two different addresses! Couldnt find it And it was closed on Sunday after we looked for it on the website. Its in Kennesaw and Marietta with two different address numbers! I guess it was someones idea of a joke

Yelp
Have wanted to try the place for years. Hoped to drop in and have a quick bite while hanging out at Marietta Square. We'll, it doesn't work like that. You can pick up a frozen pot pie and take it home, though, as that's how it ACTUALLY works. I bought two small pot pies (traditional chicken and a beef stroganoff). Both were delicious and it really was like eating a homemade pot pie. Well, I deserve SOME of the credit, but it's not really about me. Lol. Recommended!!
google avatar

Yelp
My favorite chicken pot pie, my homemade ones are a close 2nd, but )lthe ease of not having make and cleanup, and the fresh dough, make it tops! Anytime I'm in the area I always stop by. The customer service it's A+. I only wish they had a location more In the city. Marietta square is lucky to have them in the area. Also an important aspect of any pot pie Is the Dough to filling ratio, which they nailed and the chicken and veggies are plentiful.. also the gravy/roux is excellent. Highly recommend!!

Yelp
Honestly the best pot pies on town. I found another spot just a few blocks away, and gave them a try. There was no contest, Paul's Pot Pies are the BEST!!!

Jill F.

Yelp
We got two chicken pot pies, one to share with our son and daughter-in-law. None of us liked the pot pies. Not very tasty and chicken texture was mushy. Really wanted to love these but just didn't.
google avatar

Cosmiclady L.

Yelp
I thought it was a very nice concept... I ordered The Seafood Pot Pie and it was very very delicious and creamy what's the more than enough Seafood inside. I'm waiting to try another type of pot pie
google avatar

Marion C.

Yelp
I drive out of my way to stop by Paul's Pot Pies. They have several different and unique pies to choose from and they are all very good.

Virginia C.

Yelp
I won a prize pie here by reviewing book at the library nearby. I was surprised I had won a meat pie so I chose a Jambalya Pie at Paul's Pot Pies. I'd never heard of it,but decided it was worth a try-and it certainly was! I'm sorry I haven't been back, but events kept popping up and I lost track of time. I still plan on coming back though I have to depend on a Zoomer wheelchair to get around everywhere. Will I be able to get inside your store? I can send my boyfriend in; he loves Shepherd pie and I'd love the Jambalya.
google avatar

Yelp
We had the delightful opportunity to purchase a Italian Sausage Pie at the Brookhaven Farmer's Market while visiting our son and his family a couple weeks ago. We drove home to Texas with the frozen pie in the cooler and when we arrived home it was semi thawed, but ready for the oven. All I can say is "AMAZING". I only wish I could purchase some for delivery. I encourage anyone who lives near or far and gets a chance to try these pot pies; definitely should.

Yelp
Just had our first pot pie from Paul's and it is delicious. We went with the pot roast large pie. Very tasty and the meat is high quality. There was less gravy than I expected, but it worked well and was nice it didn't fall apart when we cut it. The whole family enjoyed it. Looking forward to trying more varieties!

Richar H.

Yelp
Great Reuben pies for St Patrick's. I love their service and variety of pies. My favorite is the Jambalaya.

Janice M.

Yelp
We have had chicken, turkey and shepherd's pie. They are always fresh, delicious and easy to prep. The owner is wonderful. Happy eating!

Yelp
So my kids wanted to eat lunch on the square. While they were deciding i saw a pot pie sign, looked on yelp and thought i should try, since my guilty pleasure is pot pies. Unfortunately we discovered its a take home and cook place, so we took several for home and got pho. I personally tried the chicken and pot roast. Kids had seafood and sausage. Baked up in 60 min from frozen. Everything tasted fresh and crust was just right, flakey and light. Just needed a little more salt in all fillings. Pot roast was tender and plenty. Chicken was, as described, classic. With a new location closer to me in Kennesaw, I'll definitely indulge my pot pie obsession. My only regret is after my 20+ years living around Marietta and Cobb, I never knew about this place. Update: all my kids reported in, they loved it too.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem! Pot pies to go. Several "outside the box" flavors. They are all amazing. These are great gifts for friends and family too. Anytime we start a meal train, we get Paul's. Every person who has received a pie from us has thanked us profusely. Really worth it!

Yelp
So glad Paul's Pot Pies is here! We live in Atlanta, but I teach in Marietta, so this place has been on my list to try. Everyone talks about how good the pies are. Finally, today, I stopped by and but 2 pies. The Chicken Curry and the Vegetarian. Both were 10" and cost about $50. A little high for me. They were frozen solid, but came with easy directions to cook. 90 minutes for the frozen pie in a 350° oven. No problem. I definitely have the time in quarantine... Unfortunately, it took 2 1/2 hours to cook because they were so frozen. We were not in a hurry, but I was a little disappointed. Until, I took a bite. Oh. My. Goodness. AMAZING flavor. And the crust is so buttery and flaky. The perfect dinner pie. I love these pies. No question that its worth the drive, where ever you live, to get one of these pies! I'll definitely come back!

Yelp
I like Paul -- a friendly guy from Nutley, NJ -- and I like his pies. If your idea of a pot pie is one of those Swanson frozen thingies that your mom gave you as a kid, boy are you in for a surprise. Paul's pies are deeee-licious! I've eaten two -- chicken, and Italian -- and I've got two in my freezer: jambalaya and chicken curry. The chicken was filled with vegetables and white meat. A tad under-seasoned for my taste, but certainly good. My preference is the Italian, with a bit of zing, thanks to the sausage. The pastry topping, with Paul's signature flower imprint, is light and buttery, reminiscent of a dessert crust. Whether you buy the pies frozen or fresh -- both types need to be baked -- they're easy to prepare. No need to even defrost the frozen. I popped a fresh one in the oven on a piece of parchment paper and 40 minutes later it was ready. Same method for frozen, but obviously longer. (Instructions are provided on Paul's business card and I believe on line.) His pot pies are so popular, Paul opened a second location in Kennesaw. Check 'em out!

Yelp
Talk about comfort food - these pot pies are super good. They come in small or large $8/$24+ and in a variety of flavors. Family faves: BBQ PORK, CURRY CHICKEN, TRADITIONAL CHICKEN. Planning to try Pot Roast and Beef Stroganoff on our next visit. They make great gifts and keep well in the freezer but who can wait that long once you get it to the house???? Pop it in the oven, make a salad and dinner for your family or for friends is ready. Located in Marietta Square it isn't a restaurant, but rather a storefront. You can just pick up a pie (or two) and go! Not sure about pot pies? Check out their booth at the Marietta Square Farmers Market on Saturdays. You can sample a few flavors and make your purchase there too. I know you're still thinking'..."who in the world eats pot pies these days?"...I DO!!! These aren't TV dinner pot pies from the 70's people. These are grown up potpies that are not only delicious but aesthetically pleasing to have on your table. With a beautiful puff pastry crust on top and juicy, flavorful fillings inside you'll be amazed and look forward to trying one of the 11 different flavors they have to offer. Check em out. Located on Mill Street across from Cool Beans coffee shop. Very friendly staff and quick service too.

Yelp
Fantastic staff! And incredible pies! I'll be honest I walked in skeptical but went home and ate a pie and was blown away!! I would recommend this place to anyone in a heart beat and I'm definitely going to be a consistent customer!!
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic pot pies!! Tender flaky crust with an amazingly moist center!! I cannot wait to try every flavor.
google avatar

Catherine H.

Yelp
We've been buying Paul's pies from the first day he began selling them. It's become a staple for our house when we just don't want to cook a home meal. They're all great. One small pie sometimes gives us two meals if you're not starved. Great flavor, excellent quality and consistency. Don't miss an opportunity to try them out. Highly recommended!
google avatar

Heather S.

Yelp
You have to go to Paul's Pot Pies!! Pick your flavor and run home as fast as you can to eat it while it's hot. Or, pick up a fresh made frozen pie to back at home. We ordered the thanksgiving pot pie, the original chicken pot pie and the pot roast pot pie. Called 45 minutes ahead of time after reading reviews, they are more of a to go place, not an eat in. We were blown away at the amount of flavor and ingredients put into these little six inch pie. I cannot express how good the thanksgiving pie was. Actually, they were all just as great! It was two weeks ago when we went and I didn't realize I hadn't finished my review- Just writing about it now is making my mouth water and my brain fantasize for pies. Check it out, I work not far from the square and never even knew this gem was hiding in a side street one over from Main Street. Enjoy- Happy Pie Eating!

Yelp
First time trying Paul's. Came home and a smell meet me at the door. I took a look in the oven and instantly knew something was askew. Clearly I was looking at an outsourced dinner. Am I'm perfectly good with that. It was a chicken pot pie. Overall, great crust and taste. It was very traditional but the menu does have quite a few out of the box pies. Looking forward to the next visit.

Yelp
I first heard of this place when visiting the various stalls at the Marietta Square Farmers Market. This was a great way to be introduced because I tried at least 3 different kinds of pies - all of which were delicious. My favorite, by far, was the curried chicken. They sell them frozen in store and they're reasonably priced. I found out that the pies are sold frozen the hard way. I was on the square and starving. I walked around aimlessly trying to figure out where to get lunch then I remembered this place. I placed my order and he put my frozen hockey puck pie in a bag and I was like NO SIR. IM HUNGRY NOW. He told me that he could have had one ready if I had called about 45 mins in advance. I was committed to the pot pie now, so I drove home, cooked it, and crushed it.
google avatar

Karenita B.

Yelp
Went for the first time today!! I can't believe I've been walking past this place. I got two 6in pies because I wanted to try 2 different ones. I got the chicken pot pie and shepherds pie. Both were amazing but chicken was def my favorite. The customer service was amazing. The guy that rung us up was super friendly and explained everything. I won't be buying Marie calendars anymore because this is my new chicken pot pie spot !!!

Yelp
After looking for a new restaurant to try out in Marietta square, I saw the yelp's community reviews on Paul's pot pie and have to give it a try. So, before you decide to go here, keep in mind that it's only a TO-GO place and you should call about an hour ahead and put your orders in since it takes them about an hour to put the pies in the oven and get it cooked. Or, you can buy them raw and bake it in the oven yourself. I didn't know this before coming here but it's alright. I decided to order two 6' pies--one turkey and one chicken curry. One 6' is $9 so it's pretty reasonable. After waiting an hour for our pies to get cooked, the initial first bites made the entire wait worth it. The pies are very hardy with tons of stuffings. I only finished my pie half way and was already full. I definitely recommend the turkey pot pie if you're craving for a Thanksgiving meal in a pie. The chicken curry was still pretty good, but the seasoning wasn't as spot on as the turkey was. Overall, definitely recommend this place when you're craving for some good southern pot pies. I mean, they specialize in pot pies so they know what's up. PARKING: Parking could be an issue during peak hours such as during brunch/lunch time and dinner time. But, there's a parking lot area near Starbucks that's for Marietta square shoppers and eaters if you can't find one in the square. Also, this is a TO-GO place so you could stop in and get your orders real quick and then leave. DECOR: It's a small tiny local and quaint place. The decor is simple. Their menus can be seen on their window before entering and when you do enter, there's a huge menu to your left, near the cashier. The sizes of the pies can be seen on the right side in a fridge. Overall, great food and service. I'll definitely order from here again when I'm craving for pot pies. They are also opening up another branch in Kennesaw--also a TO-GO style. I've attached a picture of the new branch below for those who might live closer to the other location.

Yelp
More like a grocery store than a restaurant but its a great concept. I walked in and was immediately greet with a smile by Paul. I decided upon the classic chicken pot pie, though the seafood one was calling my name. He told me the cooking directions but also threw a business card in the bag that has all the baking temperatures and times. I got home and bake the pie (literally the easiest dinner ever). The flavors are wonderful and there's GIANT chunks of chicken in it along with enough veggies to make my doctor happy. Needless to say, one of my favorite. The great thing is they come fresh and you can literally just take it home and pop it in the oven or you can freeze it for another day. Also, if you can anticipate it and call a few hours ahead, they'll even bake it for you!
google avatar

Dara R.

Yelp
Great pot pies! Hard to choose every time I go there. I wish they had a place to sit besides the park or public tables in the alley area. Worth the trip to get and pop in the oven as it makes the home some warm, comforting, and inviting:)

Yelp
These are the most amazing pot pies I have ever tasted! The signs indicated they have won awards but so many places give out awards it is hard to tell what is legitimate. These pies are what they claim - the best you will taste! The crust is so light and flaky, it disappears before your eyes. Of course that could be my pinching it off to taste it as I am serving it! The inside is moist, full of flavor, and doesn't skimp on the ingredients. The small pie is very generously sized. By adding a salad, we were able to stretch a small pie to to feed two people for two meals. That means you can enjoy it one more time before it disappears. But it is so good you will want to eat it all up as soon as you've taken your first bite. Unfortunately, we were passing through Marietta and only bought two. Now I want to try them all. These pot pies need to be sold in more places. Please!

Ophelia W.

Yelp
I could say many, many things about Paul's Pot Pies. The classic chicken is my favorite. The main thing I will say, you are doing your own self a disservice to not have one of these. You will be a repeat customer after the first pie! I live downtown ATL and have made a special trip out to Marietta just for a Paul's Pot Pie!

Reeni R.

Yelp
I have loved pot pies as a child and my love has never stopped! From Marie Calendars to now these babies!! These pies are so filling. I was only able to eat 1/2. Cooking time is accurate( I put on broil the last 5 min to brown the top) and the crust is phenomenal! So flaky and buttery. Seafood pie: Full of shrimp and crawfish tails. The roux/filling taste like a seafood bisque. Nice spice and bright orange. Curry Chicken pie: I'm Jamaican and they nailed they sauce perfectly!. It's a yellow curry sauce not a red curry and its filled with broccoli heads, peas, carrots and shredded chicken etc. Would certainly come back! Very filling!

Nick K.

Yelp
Excellent! Enough said, these are phenomenal pot pies. Not sure why it's taken me so long to get them since I keep hearing how good they are. Had the classic chicken last night and it was great. Highly recommend you try them out.

Yelp
OMG!!! What a slice of DELICIOUSNESS! This curry chicken pot pie gave me LIFE!!! Even to the regular chicken flavor it literally is like a slice (if you can call eating a whole small pie a slice) of buttery crust heaven. They really use real food not processed. Its truly a real treat. I've tasted alot of pot pies from New York City , LA, Seattle and ATL, to Banquet to Ms. Calendars; Paul's is by far one of the best I've tasted. And they're coming out with mini samplers. I can't wait!!!! #yummers

Jeff P.

Yelp
Been to Paul's dozens of times, always perfect! What a great place. Owner/Chef Paul and his family are as amazing as the pies. 10 stars!!

Yelp
Traveling Fare, or Paul's Pot Pies, is a tiny shop in Marietta Square that specializes in pot pies. They are take out only. You cannot dine in there. They have 6 inch and 10 inch pies. A full grown person with an appetite can eat a 6 inch pie by themselves. If you're a wimpy eater with a small stomach, maybe you can eat half a pie. They have all sorts of pot pies from classic chicken and turkey to more creative ones like chicken curry, jambalaya, and sloppy joe. For vegetarians, they have a vegetarian one too. They come frozen or fresh. They give you cooking instructions when you pick them up. You just have to pop them in the oven for about 30 minutes at around 375 degrees. I tried the chicken pot pie and the jambalaya pot pie. They both tasted good. The chicken pot pie was creamy, tender, and flavorful. It had carrot, peas and corn with white meat chunks. The jambalaya tasted interesting. I loved the mild heat it gave it. It had a lot of flavor for a pot pie. I liked it. The crust of these pot pies are flakey and delicious. They brown nicely in the oven when you follow their directions. The crust and the fillings complement each other. If you love pot pies, try this place out. You just have to know how to turn on an oven.

Yelp
I ventured to Paul's to give them a try (intro coupon). Wow - this pie is delicious. I know we will go back to put pies in the freezer and for something quick for dinner. I'm envisioning a pot pie party when the weather cools off. Gifts or meal planning for home - go!

Yelp
De-lish. I ordered the chicken pot pie and the Sheppards pot pie. Everything at Pauls is great. I even order pies to be delivered to southern maryland. Very good.
