Pavilion At The Langham - Review - River North - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Tea service at The Langham feels formal, and is the type someone’s great-aunt who has thoughts on “proper decorum” might like. They offer whimsical-themed teas, like an Alice In Wonderland one that involves cutely named dishes and a shot of tea to start your experience à la Alice’s “drink me” potion. But the harpist in the corner and modern furniture and art installations undercut any sense of playfulness. The food is hit-or-miss—some savory snacks like the chicken salad in a croissant are tasty, while others, like the ricotta toast, are flavorless and messy to eat. Similarly, the scones (which arrive at the end with the rest of the sweets) have a crumbly, sand-like texture that even jam can’t help. At $115 per person, there are better options for afternoon tea in Chicago." - Veda Kilaru

Did the Alice in Wonderland high tea and it was very lovely. Since it was a preset and prepaid menu, didn't know we could just get up and go when we were done. We hung out there a little bit and wasn't rushed out of our table. The food and pastries were some of the best for high tea I have had.

Paddington Bear High Tea at the Pavilion is an experience that brought me back to childhood in the best way. After a rocky start, with a quite rude encounter from the host including forgetting to provide me the menu once I was able to be seated, the rest of my experience was quite lovely. Paddington was one of my favourite stories from childhood so the high tea was a wonderful way to reconnect with that nostalgia. The creative and beautiful presentation of the food, especially the cheese course, Peru to London, was delightful. The incorporation of the elements from the Paddington story into the food was really nice to see and enjoy.

Went there for a tea brunch to celebrate my friend's birthday. Beautiful but yet cozy spot. The little bites and pastries were almost too pretty to eat! The savory options were yummy and creative, but there was barely enough savory options. 80% of the items were sweets of some sort, wish it was more a 50/50 between sweets and savory. Service was pretty slow, but very friendly. Great occasion for pretty pictures!

Google
Afternoon tea at The Langham was already something I was looking forward to, but it was the server Liah who made it truly unforgettable. From the moment I sat down, she made me feel completely at home with her warm, welcoming presence and natural conversation. She guided me through the service with thoughtful recommendations and a genuine kindness that made the entire experience feel personal and special. Her attention to detail, grace, and ability to connect elevated every aspect of the visit. I left feeling not only well cared for, but genuinely uplifted by the interaction. She is a true gem and a shining example of hospitality at its fines all deserving of both recognition and praise.

Google
Cute place to go for tea time and to feel a little fancy. We started with a glass of mediocre champagne, then moved into the sandwiches, which were also middle of the road and relied heavily on mayo/ cream. The desserts and petit fours were also okay, a bit sweeter than I expected. We were allowed one pot of tea each and ended up getting a third to split. The atmosphere was quiet, relaxing and perfect for catching up with friends. Our server was helpful and attentive. Overall, it was a pleasant experience with so-so food. I'd come back here again if a friend really wanted to go, but I probably would not initiate a visit on my own

Google
The Pavilion is beautiful. Being at the Pavilion for High Tea is an amazing holiday experience. However, Ray our server made the experience. He brought rays of sunshine with evey word, gesture and smile. I never expected to laugh so much during tea but we did. This was my 1st High Tea but it won't be my last. and I had no clue what to expect. I agreed to go bc an older friend really wanted to have the experience. Then a few days before our reservation, my friend was not feeling well and could not attend. Having High Tea did not sound like fun and I didn't want to go alone. So I BEGGED my husband to go with me. Both of us enjoyed the food, the nutcracker tea and of course our customer experience with Ray and everyone who came to our table. Now it's my new holiday tradition. Thank you Ray and staff Thank you The Pavillion Thank you Langham Hotel

Google
What a wonderful Alice in the Wonderland afternoon tea at the Pavilion in the Langham Hotel! Beautiful place for a nice getaway and birthday celebration! The staffs were very friendly; they always came to check and refilled beverages. They even surprised us with a birthday cupcake! The dessert were beautifully crafted and uniquely delicious! If you want a luxury high tea experience, this is the place!

Google
We had afternoon tea at Pavilion at The Langham over Christmas, and it was overall a fun experience. Lots of variety of food and bites, lots of selection for teas, and most of it tasted really great. I’d say the critical note was maybe that it was expensive for what we got, and that all the food was fairly heavy, so there was no real relief in the form of something fresh or light.

Yelp
During our stay at The Langham, my fiancé and I spontaneously decided to try their Afternoon Tea experience. Drawn in by the enchanting harp music and the beautiful setup, we couldn't resist giving it a try. The Afternoon Tea was Willy Wonka-themed, making it perfect for fans of either film. If you haven't seen the films, no worries--your waiter will guide you through the experience. Our waiter, Andri, was incredibly personable and took us through each part of our journey with great care. The service was outstanding, and the experience was meticulously curated, offering a delightful array of savory bites and an abundance of sweets, all paired with a glass of Perrier-Jouët. One tip: come hungry and ensure your dinner reservations are later in the evening because you will leave feeling full and satisfied!

Yelp
I'm the daintiest girl around (/s) so we all know I love an afternoon tea! I tried to change my usual black attire and put something floofy and pastel on for a nice little afternoon with a couple of my besties. We valeted our car with The Langham Hotel's staff and hustled inside for our Friday reservation. Valet was $28, kinda steep for 2 hours, but it's downtown. Plus the valet was so over~the~top friendly, opening doors and joking around. Nice staff! Up the elevator we went and over to the Pavilion. It's gorgeous! What a jaw droppingly, beautiful space. If you get a table along the window (two tops), there is also a view of the Chicago River. What's weird is, they had one person doing the hosting, serving, ordering taking, busing...don't get me wrong, she was great! But...they need more than one person. Service was soooooo slowwwwww. They had proprietary Langham teas and our server refilled them about half way through for us. Some impressive visual presentations for two courses, as well! This afternoon tea has a SECRET theme to it so does have some cool bits. But...aside from that, we were not impressed with this tea. We didn't eat so many of the items and were honestly left a bit confused by the experience. My friends and I have done a number around the country and the eats were not all fabulous. Most were really pretty and cool looking, but not necessarily delish. I don't remember having anything that I was like---Oh my gosh, this is so good! And for $170 each, we should.

Yelp
Great service, delicious sandwiches and scones, and nice view. Loved the harp player! However, the dessert/sweets were disappointing and the ambience was more low-key than expected, which could be a plus or minus depending on your preference.

Yelp
Omg, who put less than 17 stars for this dining experience? I mean, definition of 5 stars. We had the most amazing time at chocolate tea today. And we were a super annoying table with a vegetarian, pescatarian and multiple allergies which we tried to downplay but our waiter/magician put on the front of his list. The food is amazeballs. Tea options so fun. Our 16yo guest - her birthday request - even got her own glass of sparkling non alcoholic wine which was fabulous according to us parents. No fancy grape juice here. The staff was on top of every single detail. And told the story of the meal with enthusiasm like it was their very first time. Issues? Yes. Too much food. Too much amazing food. We did take home a ginormous bag of creative treats which will take us at least a few days to finish. Maybe that is the cause for any less than a 5 star review... so much amazing food that you needed to carry it home in a shopping bag? Oh, lovely room. But it's the Langham, so duh. Need to pay in advance but trust me, it's going to be a way better value than what was charged to your card.

Yelp
Beautiful tea service and delightful live harp music. One of the best tea times I've been to.

Yelp
The place: Stunning. Gorgeously and meticulously decorated. You immediately are transported outside of the city. The harpist's notes permeated the air and we're incredibly pleasant. Service was attentive and helpful. The taste: for $170 a person (including 20% service charge and tax) I would expect to love everything. I think the portions were perfect. There was a puff as one of the first bites that was just a little lackluster - I believe it was a celery root related bite. Overall, the food was very good, somewhat innovative, but really the ambiance and service - those are hard to match. (To note, I've been to The Drake and The Peninsula, and I think I preferred the vibe here.) My face: I felt so fancy. $337 for two people. Mostly smiles, but also super zen, so went home and promptly took a nap.

Yelp
I brought my parents to the Pavilion for Afternoon Tea, and it was a nice experience! Just note that you make reservations and pay in advance. Their tea selection includes Gyokuro Asahi, Cassis, Organic Pear Tree, Jasmine Pearl, High Mountain Oolong, Imperial EArl Grey, English Breakfast, Darjeeling, Amour, and Lapsang Su Chong, as well as offerings of tea blends, herbal tea, and infused tea. We opted for the Organic Pear Tree (an organic young hyson green tea with essence of ripe pears), the Silk Road Blend (white tea with aromatic jasmine flowers and pink whole Iranian rose-buds), and the Wedgwood Jasmine Green (jasmine green tea with fresh blossoms). Bites included savories, scones, and desserts, and we had some Veuve Cliquot champagne. Definitely for dessert-heavy, and I missed the tea sandwiches. There was a harpist that paid both classical and modern pop songs - she was great! Service was friendly and welcoming, but the handling of the food and the pouring of the tea was a little shaky. The hotel itself is modern, chic, and beautiful, and once you take the elevator to the Pavilion, there is a hostess who is ready to greet and seat you. A great spot for dates, get-togethers, or just to enjoy the views! Public garage parking and valet available. +located in the Langham +afternoon tea - advanced paid reservations required +live musician +public garage parking and valet available

Yelp
This review is 5 stars for the gluten free experience of the Alice in wonderland high tea service, and it's about a 4.2 for the overall experience. I'll start with the latter: this is a beautiful tea experience perfect for kids and adults. It's really a lovely experience with exceptionally good service. It's reflected in the high price which I think is fair for the detail and care. I do think that the space could be more tailored to the Alice vibe. There are some amazing menu details which I'll get to, but they could do so much with lighting, decor, centerpieces, etc, which felt like I missed opportunity to take the whole thing up a notch. Incredibly, if you let them know you're gluten free when you make your reservation, you'll get an entirely customized menu and won't miss out on a thing. You'll have all your own items in the gluten free version. And they're quite tasty!!! The desserts especially are fantastic despite being gluten free. I was very impressed with how well prepared they were and how thoughtful they were about allergies. I don't think I'll have a reason to go back soon but I would recommend the tea service to anyone who's considering it.

Yelp
Modern day tea party at its fanciest element. This tea time was extraordinary along side a variety of savory and sweet to enjoy. The dining room is very quiet and elegant so it's perfect for a weekend wind down. High ceilings, chandeliers, and five star service. Complimentary champagne as soon as you are seated too...Spoiled rotten! Our set incorporated an Alice in Wonderland theme. I recommend the Mango Oolong tea - it's golden color will make you feel like royalty !
google avatar

Connie L.

Yelp
They have such beautiful ceiling decor, but unless you sit in the middle you don't get to experience the full view. The Tea Time experience was pretty but a tad overpriced - for $105 (per person) each person only gets three plates of small bites. I loved certain pieces from each plate such as the shrimp toast & pink swan, but other bites were just okay. Our waitress was lovely though - the food came out relatively quickly and she recommended their pear tea which was an amazing choice.

Yelp
the regular afternoon tea is already really good, but what i like the most is the special edition ones. The Paddington bear one is amazing, loved all the pastry with the pink train as well as the suitcase, great for kids!

Yelp
Came here with a friend for their Alice in Wonderland tea and had a great time! Our server was great, explained the menu and worked with our dietary restrictions. He gave recommendations based on what we liked, which was appreciated. We both did the Mountain Berry tea, which was caffeine free. It was full of flavor and delicious! We also had complimentary champagne and sparkling cider, which I didn't realize came with it and was a nice touch. The food was all good, though a little on the sweet side. My favorites were actually the tea sandwiches, which were the first course. The scones were also good, though filling, especially the chocolate one. The desserts were so whimsical and that's where the Alice in Wonderland theme really shone through. They were all good, though super sweet and rich, so I couldn't finish them. It's a nice ambiance as well. They had a harpist playing, though we were seated towards the back so we really couldn't hear it (not a complaint, just an observation). Our server was pretty attentive with clearing plates and getting us refills. It is pricey, but you get a lot for the price and the food is deceptively filling (neither of us could finish it all and I did not need to eat dinner that night).

Yelp
We came here for paddington themed afternoon tea, little overpriced and too sweet, definitely can have better afternoon tea experience at another place with this kind of price.

Yelp
bah hambug! Christmas Eve brunch for myself and moms at the Pavilion, totaling just over $300 bucks for four stale soggy tasteless savory bites of food, followed by sweetness overkill. PROS; service, warm fresh scones, delicious selection of tea CONS; everything else

Yelp
Came for the Holiday Afternoon Tea the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Service was lackluster, we were seated quickly and treated well. Hostess/waiter sounded like they were rehearsing lines when talking to us - which honestly I can't fault anyone for, but it was weird having descriptions of food recited to us throughout the meal. The quality of service petered out especially near the end, when it was clear they were transitioning to dinner service: nobody attended our table to refill the teapots, they cleared our plates and forgot our leftovers in the kitchen, waited for 10 minutes to retrieve our winter coats at the coat check, etc. Teas were (of course) the highlight. I ordered the Nutcracker, which had a fantastic aroma of hazelnut. I also really enjoyed the Silk Road, which was a white tea with hints of rose. Food-wise, all items tasted well-made and worked well on the palate individually. The overall vision of the meal, however, was lost to me. The savory petite "sandwiches" were mixes of sweeter curries and hams. When paired with fruit-infused scones and a round of desserts, the meal ended up being overwhelmingly sweet, and I left feeling bloated from the amount of sugar consumed. Unfortunately, at $150 a person, I cannot recommend this experience. On the surface, everything looks posh and polished (the Hotel is decorated stunningly), but really that's at deep as it goes. It goes well on an Instagram page, but nothing more.

Shannon P.

Yelp
Very fancy holiday tea. The decorations were a very classy mix of pink, silver and white decorations. Many people came dressed in their holiday best. The experience started with an included glass of rose wine or non-alcoholic sparkling juice- a nice touch. The tea itself was delicious, we particularly liked the Gingerbread black tea blend. They brought out all of the food at once, I would have preferred to have it coursed out. But there was plenty of food! There were 4 savory foods, our favorite was the crab cake. The plate of 4 sweets was also delicious, we were surprised by how good the egg nog pudding was and liked the chocolate mousse. The panettone scone was a nice update on a classic with good texture and flavor. It loses one star because I liked LondonHouse's holiday tea slightly more and it was about $50 cheaper.
google avatar

Yelp
Super cute place, I went here with two of my cousins and one of her best friends. I think it was worth it for the experience, it is a little expensive, but I also like the fact that they include tax and tip into the pre-paid booking. We were running like 30 minutes late and I called them and they were still able to push it back for us.

Krista L.

Yelp
Unless you are a 5 year old billionaire, it's not well suited for you. Infantile, white bread with marmalade?

Yelp
Wonderful afternoon tea service in a beautiful setting with live music. I visited for the Valentines Day tea and was delighted by all the special themed options selected for the menu. The service was very attentive, and the harpist played beautifully. Coming throughout the year is a treat as they are constantly offering seasonal specials. My family takes tea whenever we get together, and this has become my new go-to location in Chicago. I would highly recommend The Langham for your next afternoon tea.

Markeya F.

Yelp
I went for the Alice in Wonderland themed tea. There was a harpist playing music. The tea service was excellent with the waiters being very knowledgeable about what tea you should try based on tastes. There were a variety of sandwiches including a vegetarian option.

Anne L.

Yelp
Very picturesque place though it was way too many sweet items vs savory tea sandwiches. The tea was very good, the presentation was beautiful, the live piano playing was wonderful, the service was very nice and helpful (5 stars for the service) but the hefty price for mostly sweet dessert items no one could finish was not well spent (in my opinion). I prefer the Drake's afternoon tea after this experience.

Yelp
We ordered The Langham's 'Spring Afternoon Tea To Go' through Tock on a Thursday for pickup on the following Saturday. My husband arrived on time at 11:30am for pickup where "it will be ready for pick-up at the bellmen stand." He provided the name for the order and the staff went to check on the order while he waited in the car. He checked with them again after 15 minutes and they were still looking into it. At the 25 minute mark, I called the hotel and someone said that it would be ready in 5-10 minutes and I provided my cell and email address for the restaurant manager to reach out to me. We finally received the order at 12:15pm -- 45 minutes late. 2 women placed the food in the car and did not even offer an apology. The Food & Beverage Supervisor, Kayla, emailed us the next day and offered to have us at the hotel for tea. We have a toddler and a baby at home, which is why we ordered "tea to go" -- I doubt other guests would care to hear LOUD renditions of nursery rhymes on repeat. So we declined their offer, but replied requesting a refund. We never heard back from Kayla, but did get a notification a few days later through Tock that we were issued a partial refund. It seems they completely forgot about the order and made it as quickly as possible when my husband arrived for pickup. I'm truly disappointed and cannot recommend Pavilion at The Langham given the poor service. A reply from Kayla acknowledging our request would have also been nice.

Yelp
We came here last minute for tea on a Saturday. They managed to slip us in as a table for three. The hotel is beautiful and open with high ceilings and mirrors and lights everywhere. The tea room is on the second floor. We were seated with relatively few hiccups. The waitress was very nice and all the staff very professional and attentive to our needs. The theme was alice in wonderland. They had a special kids menu which we appreciated with peanut butter and jelly and Nutella and bananas sandwiches. The hot chocolate bomb was a nice touch as was the liquid nitrogen and smoke. My daughter was fascinated. The first course was savory with bacon croissant, salted fish with pickles and brioche with carrots. Definitely well thought out and tasty and each had its own flavors and texture which complemented the others. The scones followed and were amazing. Both the butter scone and the chocolate scone were out of this world. I didn't know scones could be so good. The desserts are supper decadent and included a caramel mousse, a chocolate cake, a white chocolate filled truffle and a butter cream in a dark chocolate cup. I have a huge sweet tooth and I couldn't even finish it. By the end of the meal we were completely stuffed and on a sugar high. Everything was delicious and service and ambiance were great. Definitely not for diabetics! Glad I had the experience.

Yelp
For the price I would have hoped the interior to be more instagramable but it's kinda old and your typical hotel lobbed kinda vibe. The holiday tea though, was AMAZING. The savory and sweet items were all delicious, and there was so much food that we all had leftovers to take home. Service was standard, our server explained each item when presented, which was nice. Pro tip: instead of taking photos at your table, which has mediocre backdrop, get a photo at the sofa right outside the pavilion. The ceiling decor is cute and there won't be other patrons photobombing you

Yelp
Ever since my husband and I got back from vacation in the UK, we go to afternoon tea as often as possible. The Pavilion at the Langham hotel is our favorite spot, and now we've made their Christmas tea an annual tradition. The service here is unmatched and while you of course expect amazing service at a hotel like the Langham, I still feel that they go above and beyond to make you happy, show serious concern for dietary restrictions, explain the menu in a delicious way, and accommodate requests and refills nonstop throughout your time there. The tea is 4 savory sandwiches, two kinds of scones with jam and cream, four desserts, then a final dessert, then a take home dessert. What's not to love about any of that?! This year I thoroughly enjoyed that half the sandwiches were vegetarian - goat cheese and butternut squash, and a classic cucumber, while half were a decadent protein - ahi tuna and duck breast. The desserts were amazing too! And the interim course of scones with clotted cream - to die for. And if you're like us and need more clotted cream, just ask, and you shall receive. This year they did a signature cocktail - the sugar plum fairy - and I was instantly hooked. Elderflower liqueur, prosecco, and pomegranate. It was a bubbly pink color and so very drinkable. I could have had a zillion, but since a glass of bubbly comes with the tea, I settled for one. I also had their delightful signature nutcracker tea, a warming blend of black tea and vanilla, and while I'm not a tea person, it was so drinkable. If you want a fun afternoon where you slow down, relish a little luxury, enjoy a little conversation, and just have an incredible time with your tea mates, make a reservation at the Langham and get a taste of something the British do so right!

Yelp
Excellent afternoon tea service at the Pavilion. The wait staff was the friendliest I've ever encountered. The harpist was a dream, playing lulling tunes that made the whole hall very peaceful. The classy ambiance and tea tray made me temporarily getaway from stress and just enjoy a midday break in the hustle and bustle of Chicago.

Whitney H.

Yelp
The whole experience was wonderful! We enjoyed the Alice in Wonderland Tea. The food was incredible, the service was wonderful and it was a great experience.

Megan K.

Yelp
Not worth the money or time; I will be going to The Drake or elsewhere and suggest you do the same. Went for afternoon tea and the worst experience I've had in the city so far. We waited 15 min alone at the host stand for anyone to even seat us. Sat for another 30 min alone before server stopped by, and then another 15 before we were served. I've yet to go to an afternoon tea anywhere else that was not exceptionally attentive. We sat and saw our server once. I did not get a single tea refill, or the option to order any additional wine. Food was meager and obviously made days in advance.

Yelp
I wrote a review but it was removed, not sure why. Here is a copy of the review: Very disappointing! We went to The Langham for afternoon tea three years ago and had a wonderful experience. We were excited to go again this year as part of our annual family (4 adults and 6 kids) holiday tradition. We were given 4 savory bites, of which only one was worth eating. The kid's tea included a Nutella and banana mini sandwich. We requested that half of them be without bananas. Our server informed us that this special request would take a few extra minutes because they had to make the sandwiches special. Waiting a few minutes was fine by us. When the sandwiches arrived, the bananas were simply removed from the sandwiches, leaving the banana taste. Very poor customer service! After the savory dishes, the tea arrived, and it was good. Each of us was given plenty of sweet bites, but again many were not edible. Poor quality food, bad service, and overpriced! We paid over $100 per person and 20% gratuity was included in the bill. Do not go here for afternoon tea.

Yelp
My friend and I enjoyed a wonderful Afternoon Tea here. The day was gloomy, but the large windows and friendly service made the atmosphere warm and inviting. We made reservations easily on open table and I was pleasantly surprised that we got seated at a window table. There's not much of a view, just the surrounding buildings, but to me, getting seated next to the window is always preferable. Our server explained how the process would go, and explained the flavor profiles for the teas we were interested in. It was a Fairy Tale theme and each food item had a whimsical fairy-tale themed name. We opened with glasses of Tattinger--perfectly chilled. Everything was wonderful. I'm more of a savory girl so I liked savory plate better with egg salad, tiny sandwich toasts of duck confit, lobster salad and roast pork. The scones were also amazing, served warm and fresh. The clotted cream was so rich and the jams were by Bon Maman. The presentation of everything was wonderful. Plated so pretty and with care, it takes time to do this and I appreciated every little detail. The tea I chose was fruity and smooth--paired perfectly with our little treats. Even though the food items look small, it's paced so well that we left pleasantly full. We did not feel rushed and we enjoyed the harpist who provided some soft music throughout our visit. It was a wonderful experience and I enjoyed every bit.

Yelp
After I got in contact with the manager of the Pavilion, she corrected the situation and invited a me back for another tea experience. This time we got a much more attentive server and the service was great. The food and tea were of much better quality. I really enjoyed myself this time.

Yelp
We arrived in Chicago and decided to take a chance at the Pavillion for its Alice in wonderland tea! It was the perfect start to our day as it was very chilly in Chicago. The prices was a bit pricey but in my opinion it was totally worth it. I wasn't very fond of some of the sandwich options they had and our server took the time to change them So that I could enjoy my sandwiches with my tea. The ambiance was amazing. Tea was great and the desserts so yummy! Definitely give it a try when you are in Chicago!

Yelp
I wanted to look for a refined and polished place to celebrate my anniversary and this place was perfect! We were seated in the center of a very large window just how I requested in the reservation. Although the view of the Chicago river was blocked by what I believe is the Trump Tower it acted as a nice shade from the 90 degree weather outside. Their menu changes from time to time, so depending on when you go, your food selection might be different from mine. However, I noticed that they do use the same overall concept for the food, but they would just change the flavor. So for example they always have something in a little cup for you to scoop out, a little hamburger sandwhich of some sort, a macaron, a tart, scones, etc. Food was beautifully presented especially the finger sandwiches. Out of all the afternoon tea places I've been to I would say I liked the finger food here the most. The cucumber sandwhich was not bland and had a sweet and savory flavor to it. The sandwhiches had a little charred flavor to it giving it a more interesting taste compared to the usual sweet and salty. The bbq pulled pork in the little hamburger bun was my favorite. The desserts here ranged from sweet to tart with all different kinds of textures. We had the vanilla and cherry scones. I don't remember all the desserts we had, but I do remember the delicious spreads they had for the scones. We had an apricot compote, lemon custard, and Devonshire cream (which they import from England I believe). The lemon custard was definitely my favorite to put on my scones. I had the Palm Court Tea and my boyfriend had the High Mountain Oolong- both went great with the desserts. They gave us many refills on tea and water without having to flag them down a single time. At the end they also gave us a small complimentary happy anniversary cake! They also boxed up our leftovers. Service was excellent, made sure we were comfortable while giving us time to ourselves. They make sure to ask you if you have any dietary restrictions and was very accommodating. Overall, I enjoyed the peaceful and relaxing ambiance while enjoying my food.

Yelp
I went here with my mom to celebrate my birthday weekend. I've been wanting to take her to her first afternoon tea so I brought her here. Parking: Street parking is difficult but there are available spots within a few blocks of the area. Ambience: this place is on the 2nd floor of the Langham Hotel. The place is beautiful and upscale. Definitely feels fancy and elegant, especially with the grand white piano and a harpist playing while we are drinking tea. The view is of the Chicago River and the Trump Hotel but it's still nice to sit by the window. Service: We were greeted upon arrival and they asked if we would like to sit on the couch or get a window seat. Our waiter was very nice and explained the menu to us. He refilled our tea pots which was nice. Food: The menu was for the Summer Afternoon Tea. For $65 per person, you get a pot of tea with one flavor of your choice, 4 petite sandwiches, scones, and 4 tiny desserts. I got the peach with flowers tea which was a black tea with marigold flowers. I really liked the peach taste! My mom ordered the Nobo Whole Fruit tea which had lots of fruit flavors such as blackberries, raspberries, and strawberries. Her tea was a little too fruity for me and too sweet but my mom liked her tea. The sandwiches were the peekytoe crab, fava bean and ricotta, BBQ chicken salad, and summer squash and eggplant tart. The sandwiches were a work of art. These bite sized sandwiches were yummy but I wish we could've gotten refills on the food as the portions were small. The scone flavors were Lemon and Vanilla Brown Sugar. These were good and the portion was bigger than I expected. On the side, you get Strawberry Jam, Devonshire Cream, and Lemon Custard to accommodate your scones. The desserts were probably the highlight of the afternoon tea. You get Strawberry Shortcake, Summer Financier (almond cornmeal cake with blueberry jam), Tropical Tart (mango cremeux, lime gel, and vanilla short crust), and Chocolate Verrine (milk chocolate mousse). I loved every single dessert! Again, I wish we had refills on the desserts since the price tag was high. Verdict: I loved the ambience and the food was great. Our server was super nice as well. However, I wish for $65 per person, we could've gotten refills on the scones, desserts, and sandwiches. To eat these tiny bite sized sandwiches and desserts were delicious but it's not fair to pay such a high price for them and not get refills. I understand that you are paying for the experience but I've had afternoon tea at the Lobby at the Peninsula which has a comparable price (slightly less expensive) with free refills on the sandwiches, desserts, and tea. Afternoon Tea in London was cheaper than here and I was able to ask for more servings of scones there. Overall, it would've been a better experience if they offered refills on the food. I would probably not come back here again only for that reason.

Yelp
You been wondering why this beautiful place earned just three stars. I am basing my review and rating on the overall experience including the return on my very hefty investment of nearly $160 for a one-hour experience . ($65 per person plus gratuity) The rating translation: Five-star service and prime location earned the majority of the stars. We were dressed appropriately, yet our arrival experience was a bit pretentious. I felt as though my every step was being politely scrutinized from entry in the hotel lobby (where we needed to "check in ") then again several times along the way. I suppose this keeps the "riffraff " out. Once we reached the restaurant level, we again had to check in at the desk to confirm our reservation. Then again at the hostess' station. We had a reservation, which we had confirmed again, yet I felt they were not really prepared for our arrival. The hostess was assisting another guest but, for some reason, she left the dining room, and intern my daughter and I. She moved deliberately but very slowly, leaving us waiting nearly 6 minutes to be seated. This surprised me since the dining room restaurant was well-under capacity. TIP TO MANAGEMENT: Why not have the initial "greeter" phone up to the restaurant to advise them that the guest was on route. This would provide exceptional experience and a wow factor, instead of a barrage of polite interrogations by two more people which was a bit off-putting. Once seated, we really enjoyed our window side table and our server was absolutely spectacular. THE TEA: I am a real tea drinker. And, I travel with my own stash. The waiter asked for my tea selection and I explained I like a very strong black tea so he recommended the house blend. The Langham blend tea I selected was less than stellar, a weak blend served already steeped without the loose tea. This was disappointing. I wanted to pull out my own teabags but at $65 per person I opted to explain my disappointment to the the server who immediately made another suggestion which I was more pleased with. I lifted the lid off the Wedgewood teapot and was quite surprised:Be forewarned, Langham does not serve loose tea in your pot here, (which was somewhat disappointing considering that I expected a true English tea experience). Truth be told, even the replacement was not up to the task. my own personal sachets would have served me better. And to be fair, My daughter loved her green tea. THE FOOD: The petite finger sandwiches were Tiny works of art and delightful to look at. They were tasty. The highlight was the scones, battery, flaky, Crumbly triangles of pure delight and served with the Devonshire cream, strawberry jelly, and lemon curd. The mousse au chocolate was beautiful and satisfying. Each of the desserts were beautiful to look at. Our seating was at 4 PM so our appetites we're not that large. Despite the spice plating, we asked to take the remaining pastries and scones to go. Quite accommodating, Our waiter boxed up the provisions. Quite surprising, they handed us an oversized plain brown paper sack. No personality and a real letdown and missed opportunity for the Langham to have a walking, upscale advertisement. The "devil is in the details" and therefore the overall experience versus the investment of our time and money earned fewer stars than I would like to have awarded. In summary: two stars for tea, atmosphere earned four stars, five for service and pastry art, and four for taste.

Yelp
We had reservations, and were seated by the window... It was a beautiful space, very friendly and helpful staff. Despite a rain storm coming though, the space was very warm and bright, and full of intriguing artwork and decor. The chairs were very comfortable, and the table setting was stylish and sophisticated. We enjoyed our tea selections (jasmine pearl, and vanilla rooibos), and were pleasantly surprised how filling the entire meal was! The savory sandwiches, scones, and desserts were all full of intriguing flavors.

Yelp
Very disappointing!

Yelp
I first came to the Langham for a conference and noticed their tea room. So I decided to take my mom here for some quality time with her. Everything was delicious but just a touch overpriced. But, you pay extra for the experience. It did include finger sandwiches, dessert, tea and a complimentary glass of champagne. Service was very friendly and knowledgeable. Hotel is beautiful! Was neat to experience tea time, but don't think I'll ever go back because the price was not worth it to me, in my opinion.

Yelp
If you want average food (the tea sandwiches were a little more unique than the Drake's, everything else was ok), lukewarm and unflavorful tea, decent ambience, and the SLOWEST and most unfriendly service ever, go to the Langham for tea. I know tea service is supposed to be leisurely, but I assume not to the point where I would order my tea and wait 30 minutes for the pot to arrive. And then another 15 minutes for the sandwiches. And then another 30+ minutes for the scones and dessert. And then 20 minutes for the check, after asking for it twice. At one point, my husband held up our check and waved it frantically to try and get someone's attention, and nobody even glanced in our direction. We had to get up and go to the hotel concierge to get our bill paid, and when we told the manager that the service was awful, his response was "um... thanks for the feedback and sorry". Maybe we were being profiled given our age and race, maybe we weren't - I just know that we will never come back here.

Yelp
The quest started in January to try out every high tea in Chicago. The goal = to find the best one that not only makes you feel like royalty, but also has quality bites and tea in a relaxing atmosphere. Well, a problem happened. This was the first location attended for high tea and it ruined everything. The tea connoisseur was a wonderful hostess and very knowledgeable about the each of the teas offered. Then, there were the mini sandwiches and the tiny desserts, each one different and none leaving a lack of flavor in your mouth. There were other high tea places frequented at a much cheaper cost, but none compares to the immaculate attention to detail that happened here.

Yelp
The Pavilion happens to be in my favorite hotel in Chicago right now... It is so lavish, beautiful, relaxing, and just perfect. The service, the food, the tea.... all beyond my expectations. My husband and I came during their Valentines afternoon tea special- $70pp for tea and sweet and savory snacks and everything was phenomenal and totally worth the price. I would highly recommend this place if you want to surprise your significant other with something spectacular and different... or if you want a day out with the girls- fun to dress up and gorgeous place for a photo op ;) If you are looking for high tea in Chicago- skip that other place on North Michigan lol.... The Pavilion is EVERYTHING

Yelp
My mom and I have an annual tea time tradition. We usually go to another hotel but thought we would switch it up this year, so we tried the Pavilion at the Langham. The hotel was nice but the afternoon tea was just okay. The service was amazing ( I give that a 5), the room was absolutely stunning (I give that a 5 as well), the tea was nice ( not that big of a selection), I didn't love the sandwiches but I LOVED the truffled egg salad, it was in the most amazing perfectly cut and cleaned egg shell ( we asked for seconds; it was to die for). Unfortunately I did not love the desserts and I have a hug sweet tooth so I was really looking forward to that. I don't think I'll be back for afternoon tea but I look forward to returning to the hotel to try out the other restaurant.

Yelp
So this spot in the Langham is hidden. It looks like a lobby on the second floor opposite Travelle. Hurry, go, before everyone else knows...shhhhhh! This is where they have afternoon tea. I haven't been for tea yet, but according to a friend that is an expert at tea in the city...this is the best place. BUT at 6p it turns into the Parlour til 10p. Ssshhhhhhhhhh! So posh, you can definitely get sloshed! Boozey HUMONGOUS sundae like drinks... yes, you heard me folks...adult like floats Amazingly delish sundaes that are as big as your head...a ba-zillion different kinds. The Chicagoland was absolutely amazing. I am an ice cream whore. And theeesss shiznit might have been the best I ever had. It's like the dirty little pleasure that you just love to have but know you shouldn't be putting all of this ridiculousness in your mouth. As a friend put it...way nicer than Serendipity. Just go...do it. Bring some friends because four of us didn't even come close to finishing it. Oh and if you want to share "The Victorian," call me...I am in!

Yelp
We reserved a spot from 3-5 on Sunday for tea time for a friends birthday. Exceptional service! They have staff everywhere to guide you to the tea room, coat check, and your server can text the valet to have your car ready by the time you are ready to leave. Tea time includes our own tea pot with of course lemon, sugar, honey, and milk options, small sandwiches with vegetarian option available, baked goods and desert-5 options. All for approximately $40 per person. Tables are tiny and have comfy couches surrounding them. It's perfect for small groups. You do not feel rushed at all and the staff are very nice and helpful. There's a fireplace and live piano player. Such a wonderful calming atmosphere!

Yelp
First afternoon tea experience! Decided to go here with a girlfriend to try their pink inspired tea theme honoring Breast Cancer Awareness month where I believe 10% of the proceeds went to some foundation for breast cancer which is nice. The set up was really cute! We were first served with a drink then we had our tea. I had the Langham Blend and my friend had the Palm Court Blend. My tea paired well with milk and brown sugar. I think one of the best teas I've had! The first course was a plate of cold finger sandwiches which were small but tasty. Then the second course was warm seasonal scones. Lastly, we had a pretty in pink plate of desserts. Everything was good, we were pretty full. My only thing was that it was a little pricey for afternoon tea. It was $80 + tax. However, we both had a great experience. The staff was very attentive. I wouldn't mind doing this again in a month or so. Lol!
