"Pazzo Gelato has been scooping ice cream in Silver Lake for nearly two decades, but the neighborhood hasn't remotely gotten bored of its flavors. Expect a frequent gelato rotation of a dozen options, including Mexican coffee, matcha, and spicy Thai tea with Asian pear. If you find yourself waiting in line for a few minutes, it's because everyone in front of you also wants to sample everything, so patience is key. Don't miss the intensely sweet mango sorbetto that tastes like biting into the juiciest, ripest mango of the season. It also happens to be vegan, along with dozens of other seasonal plant-based flavors that pop up throughout the year, like apricot, horchata, and chocolate tequila." - sylvio martins

"Now available as a dessert option at both locations of the sports bar and restaurant the Greyhound, Pazzo Gelato is a small family-owned shop that co-owner Mateo Glassman says he’s been a regular at for more than a decade and that he wanted to help keep busy after Salt & Straw’s controversial arrival on the same block." - Farley Elliott
"At 3827 Sunset Boulevard, I've seen Pazzo Gelato operate as a 17-year neighborhood staple now facing uncertainty over its lease: owner Michael Buch says the business will vacate when its lease ends in 2025 after repeated requests to Specialized Realty to extend it were denied. Buch, a lifelong Angeleno and Silver Lake resident for 23 years, learned about Salt & Straw's arrival a few doors down about six months ago and, while baffled by the landlord's unwillingness to renew his lease, suspects (without proof) that terms around exclusivity or non-compete may have been involved. He tested the market during the pandemic by soliciting potential subtenants, and is now heartened by strong community support — the shop's 17th-anniversary celebration offered $1.70 scoops, drew lines snaking down Sunset Boulevard, and prompted some social-media calls for a Salt & Straw boycott — yet he continues to operate while scouting possible relocation and insists his product is much different from theirs." - Cathy Chaplin
