Health department closes two restaurants with no hot water | Eater Vegas

"A January 9 inspection resulted in 39 demerits and a C grade, citing widespread sanitation and maintenance failures: dirty door handles, shelves, refrigeration units, ceilings, and vents; rusty shelves in the cooler and water-damaged walls; grease buildup on the fryer and old food/debris under fryers and the wok line; and dead bugs in the restroom hall. Inspectors also found numerous dirty pieces of equipment (grater, hand-held slicer, prep bowls, egg-roll dipping bowl, colander, meat slicer), dirty pans and lids stored in a clean area, a cross-contamination incident where an employee handled raw shrimp then touched utensils, vegetables, and a to-go container, and several food items (cooked cabbage for egg rolls, cooked chicken, raw marinated chicken, and improperly cooled noodles) that had to be discarded; the establishment remains rated C." - Susan Stapleton

Google
Honestly the best Chinese spot in vegas, the pricing and quality of food is off the charts. It’s family owned and the owners work there daily. They greeted us upon entering and also while leaving. They take lots of pride in their food and you can tell by their cheerful attitudes. Prices are amazing and the food is great quality!

Google
Food was 2-10 threw most of it away Service was 1-10 guy at the counter acted like he’d rather be anywhere besides taking my order. Don’t waste your time the fried rice was horrible

GABBY M.

Google
Honestly is by far the worst food Ive ever had, the rice was so old and hard. Mind you I just ordered this almost an hour after they open. The Orange chicken was wiggly it almost tasted raw. Even the egg rolls where bad, how can you mess that up I have no idea. First and last time I feel robbed out of my money. Oh and the portions are smaller than panda express, the egg drop soup looked like it had old egg in it. Over all the worst in vegas, I should of looked at the reviews first

Google
Excellent food. Large portions. Enjoyed everything we ordered. To-go only or delivery by GrubHub. No indoor seating. 4 stars because it wasn't clean. Staff wore masks and gloves.

Google
ZERO STARS - I’m new to the area and as usual I went by ratings. I called and placed my order at 7:48pm... DELIVERY was knocking on my door at 8:00pm (maybe 7:59, it was 8 by time I closed the door) I rush to check the food to make sure it’s even my order.. I ordered general tso chicken... no crispiness to it, no spices.. the meat was so wiggly like noodles. It’s currently in the oven! I ordered chicken egg foo young.. just see the pic. The rice was TERRIBLE.. like someone else mentioned😩

Bryan

Google
One of the best Chinese to go restaurants in Las Vegas. Food always hot and fresh, fast service, and special orders always accomodated! Outstandingly lunch specials of any menu item at special lunch prices.

Julian

Google
I enjoyed it. Only bad thing is they use a lot of sauce on their food it’s like drowning in sauce and the fried rice was terrible. The good was that the food had flavor which is hard to find in Vegas, Huge portions, rice comes with the dish and the spring rolls are included. I Will be ordering again.

Yos S.

Google
Great woking experience and taste for the stir fry. Minus point for the fried rice from the lunch combo. Get regular entree, tastier with steamed rice.

Yelp
If you're looking for a great traditional To Go Chinese restaurant with tasty dishes, this is the place. Friendly service. Simple review..no photos needed. Full selection menu of Chinese dishes and reasonable prices. Not ideal for dine-in but overall your usual To Go ambience. No BS! Order, Pay, To Go Pickup, Enjoy!
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered take out. Pricing was standard. Food was mediocre however I did not enjoy waiting in the dining room as the ventilation was awful. Had to wait in lousy conditions.

Yelp
I can't believe it's been TEN years since I reviewed this restaurant, but I like how not much has changed except prices, lol. When I reviewed it 10 years ago, I had been coming here for years already, so, that means about 15 years & it's stayed a local favorite! I recognize the same employees & they are always nice & quick! They have a great lunch special from 11am-3pm where you can pick one of their choices or you can make any regular menu item a lunch special. You get your main dish plus an egg roll and your choice of soup for only $8.95! I looked back at prices & this same lunch special was about $6 ten years ago, so, not bad all these years later! It's still just a pick-up/delivery restaurant since they don't have much seating, but the food is consistently delicious & very reasonable pricing!

Yelp
A tiny, but great little hole-in-the wall Chinese joint. Their combination fried rice is bountiful and very tasty. Stick with the traditional Chinese offerings. I also ordered one of the specials for the day, which was their fried wings and fries. The wings are tiny, inexpensive and unimpressive. This is a very affordable and decent spot in the Lakes.

Yelp
So today, I actually brought food and all I needed was a protein. I ordered the General Tso lunch special with white rice and wonton soup. The General Tso chicken was 99% breading - I realized this after eating the first piece that had "air" release so I didn't even bother to eat the rest of it...I ended up eating what I originally brought for lunch ‍

Yelp
Omgggg!!! My pregnant self has been craving orange chicken and after going to my usual favorite and others I've been so disappointed but I'm so glad we found this place, it's been right under my nose but probably the best Chinese food I've ever had, the orange chicken is actual orange chicken not just hard fried dough. And the sauce is really good too with the orange tangyness. So fire and good price! 8.95 for lunch special comes with half portion with rice or lo mein, soup and a egg roll, dinner is just as good 13$-15$ for large entree soup and appetizers. So fire, fast service, ate in the first time it was a lil warm but still cool definitely great take out place, have been there twice in the same week lol
google avatar

Anne N.

Yelp
Service is fast all the food is cooked when you order. Not really a place to dine to go or delivery is fine. The price is budget friendly and portions are great.

Yelp
I was driving by and saw a butcher shop I had not been to, just down a few doors was Pearl Wok to-go. I stopped in an ordered 2 lunch specials as it was aroun 1pm and I had spent time at a local business, and I was behind. I was glad I did, the beef and broccoli was very good, the cashew shrimp was also!! Plus it was under $20 for both!!! It comes with your choice of 3 soups and also you get an egg roll plus choice of white or stir fry rice. I will be back soon!!

Yelp
This is one of the best chinese restaurants around! We love to order here for delivery but today we decided to order in person. They were fast and the food is amazing! We got sesame chicken, fried rice, jalapeño chicken, bbq pork, cow mein, crab wontons, and egg rolls. So good!!

Thomas J.

Yelp
Spent a lot of Monday at this place and found egg shells in our food. You gotta be careful next time guys!!!
google avatar

Yelp
I finally found a Chinese delivery spot that I like the flavors out west here. I'm a Boston transplant and constantly in search of some familiar flavors from back home. This place hits the nail on the head with most of the items we bought. The service has been spot on except for one super slow delivery day, And I'm not sure about the ambience because we've only ordered delivery, but I can highly recommend it. It has always arrived, hot and ready to be devoured. Nice job pearl wok, we will be ordering from you soon again! PS They do not have east coast egg rolls but the general chicken is da bomb!!!
google avatar

Shane B.

Yelp
Pearl Wok, I love you! Wife and I came here tonight to grab some Chinese food. We got pork fried rice, sesame chicken, and chicken chow Mein. It was all so delicious and they even threw in a couple egg rolls with our meal. We took the food home & even 15 minutes after leaving the restaurant our food was still HOT! Which was nice because we didn't have to heat it up. My sesame chicken was so flavorful. And the fried rice was on point! Perfectly seasoned and had a nice amount of pork throughout it! My wife had nothing but great things to say about the chow mein. Next time I'm getting the jalapeño chicken!
google avatar

Bobbi Jo J.

Yelp
This place is the best. They are quick and if you order over a certain amount then you get free entrée! Flavor is good and I love the Singapore noodles. They have take out or delivery. We get this for family parties and we never have leftovers. Give it a shot and check it out.
google avatar

Glen L.

Yelp
Never fancy or pricy. But purely delicious and made in a jiffy. And strictly take out. And if it's not on the menu, just ask.
google avatar

Wanda P.

Yelp
Not sure why this place has such a low rating. We've been ordering food from here for a couple of years now. Their mangolian beef is the best I've had and were pretty big foodies. It's a little spicy but mostly from the onions :) our lunch order came with an egg roll and a soup. I also got an orange chicken/noodles combo. They include a side of sweet/sour sauce for the eggs rolls some soy sauce packets, fortune cookies, plastic utensils and a mustardy wasabi sauce for the crispy 'chips'. We choose delivery and the food arrives hot.

FD C.

Yelp
This was my first visit and I love old-school Chinese takeout. Great portions and reasonable prices. I am going again soon!
google avatar

Jay J.

Yelp
I love this place, I work in the area, and they have a lunch special for less than $7.00. And not only that, once you order, it dosn't take long for ou to get your order. There orange chicken is amazing, plus you get egg flower soup or other choices, and egg roll and your meal! What's not to love! I've tried the garlic chicken, but I really love the orange chicken. It's crispy and orangy! Yes Orangy....They even have the orange peels in it. The service is good, no complaints about that. I love an afforable lunch.

Ian S.

Yelp
Apparently this place has been here a long time - I can see why! It's a low key small (mostly takeout - only3 tables) Chinese quick serve restaurant. It seems like they cook upon order - it's not just scooping from a vat of pre-cooked food. It's cooked fast, but fresh. I stopped in for a lunch special. FYI - there's 21 entree options listed on the wall - 6 more than the 15 on the printed menu I attached. For the lunch special - you actually have an option of 3 soups (egg drop, wonton, or hot and sour. I went with the egg drop and it was great! It also came with an egg roll - which was great (crispy and tasty) but a little more greasy than I prefer. I ordered the Kung Pao Triple Delight (chicken, shrimp, and scallop) lunch special with fried rice. I was really impressed considering the price and it being a quick service spot. I'll be back!

Yelp
I was hungry and driving by and decided to stop in. Service was fast and efficient. Food was good and not greasy at all. Price was relatively cheap. The only reason I dropped one star was because I paid extra for white meat chicken and my order was made with dark meat.
google avatar

Stephanie P.

Yelp
Great food, for the quantity, quality and price. The delivery, through them, is like lightening! It's like; as soon as you order your meal; the delivery driver is half out the door???!!?!!? Weird, because all food is made fresh! I thank our kids for turning us on to this place. Never had a bad meal. Pics later. 23 Minutes!!! From order to delivery!
google avatar

Maricris O.

Yelp
This is my go to Chinese food because of a couple of reasons. first because I live close by , they get my food delivered in 15 min , and because I like the older couple who are the cooks. They are always cheerful and say hello every time I pick up my food or when the older man delivers it. This place drops a star because the younger guy who works has a bit of a rude attitude, when I order on the phone it seems worse. He could be friendlier so transactions could me more pleasant. The food is not bad, its a good portion size! My go to is the fried rice, with some hot Chile sauce it's great! I love the fact that you can order the lunch special all day! Also there's ample parking if you are picking up your food.

Yelp
I have been visiting this take-out restaurant for over 10 years and it hasn't failed me, yet. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE their beef and broccoli. The broccoli is always perfectly done, not too under/over cooked . . . just right! I have to order extra for leftovers. Veggie egg foo young is so tasty along with their wide variety of noodles that I can never decide what I like most. Best of luck to this restaurant for many more years of success.
google avatar

Diana R.

Yelp
It's a good place for Chinese fast food, prices are great, flavor is good, service is okay. And they have great deals.
google avatar

Yelp
The most disgusting food that I have eaten on 1/1/2023 I wished I had read the reviews before ordering from Pearl Wok To Go!!. I ordered pork fried rice, which was wet, salted, and old black, the appetizer sampler, I down know what to call it; the chicken wings did not look like wings, more like molded wing tips; the eggs rolls, wet, shrimp tempura don't know how to describe them. Mongolian beef was dried and could not chew. It was burnt and salty. I wish I had taken a picture; I was so disgusted that I put everything in the trash. Darcy Spears's an investigative reporter of Dirty Dining - Las Vegas - KTNV Needs to investigate this restaurant.

Yelp
Decided to try this hole in the wall right next to CVS. I'm glad we did because the food is delicious. It was quiet and the staff was very nice. Took our food to go and the kids couldn't stop saying how good the food was. Not oily and flavor was just right. We got free egg rolls and fried rice. So good. Will continue to get my Chinese take out from here.

Jessica R.

Yelp
disgusting! no flavor and the "LO MEIN" is fettuccine with veggies absolutely not! Flavor of the kung pow is weak af very watered down and the SHRIMP HAD POOP IN IT STILL! Someone clearly doesn't care waste of food and restaurant! you need Better standards this is gross and lazy all in one. In the trash it goes never again
google avatar

Jeffrey A.

Yelp
Good food, the lunch specials are good and nicely priced. The dinner menu is too expensive. The dinner portions are larger, but don't come with egg rolls and soup, as the lunch specials do.

Sandy S.

Yelp
My favorite Chinese food and I live near china town! But this place is so good and always consistent with the flavors
google avatar

Esther K.

Yelp
I love the seafood there I live like down the street haha so I like to go there they're fast and cook it so good!
google avatar

Sheila M.

Yelp
My mom And I wanted to try some other Chinese restaurant besides Panda so we decided to try Pearl Wok. No sooner did we order via online delivery than they were at our door in 30 Minutes! The food was excellent and large portions! I especially loved the spicy Szechuan eggplant, pineapple vegetable fried rice and vegetable lo mein. The food was not greasy. We will definitely go again and again. Thank you for your service in the community!

Eli w.

Yelp
Eating this food resulted in the most violent fit of food poisoning that I have ever experienced. Projectile vomit Hershey squirts the works man, it doesn't get much worse. If you want to see how far you're stomach is capable of launching bile? Please help yourself to this horrendous establishment. I feel inclined to level the restaurant with my own two hands. If the owners care to check the yelp, if you'd like to stay in business, I suggest you change your practices NOW. Take a good hard look at what's going on it that kitchen because there is something unholy taking place in those woks. I came yesterday March 15th, question your on-site managers about food safety check that likely never occurred. I thank you for teaching me a lesson on who I trust to cook my food

Deborah S.

Yelp
It was not good at all very disappointed we usually get food there a lot but both myself and my son got sick with food poisoning won't be eating there again
google avatar

Danny B.

Yelp
Food was fast and cheap but didn't have a lot of flavor. Chicken dumplings, not much flavor. Lettuce wrap, not much flavor. Hot and sour soup was mostly broth and not much flavor. Spring rolls too. Probably won't go back.
google avatar

Greg I.

Yelp
I love this place! They're always so fast and food is tasty! Even when I order an hour before closing for delivery the driver is always nice. I hate ordering so close to closing time but I leave work at that time. I've order in places where they just don't care. I'll order from here as much as I can

Patrick F.

Yelp
First and last visit...a food was so bad we threw all 4 lunch specials right in the trash..we'll stick with China Gourmet near Fort Apache...
google avatar

Jasmin I.

Yelp
Although the service was fast and friendly I should have know that scallops at this price was too good to be true. They taste like if I eat more I will get food poisoning and it's fishy flavor is unbearably disgusting. Even though it's seafood .... Onward I guess to the next Chinese restaurant for a satisfying meal that taste and looks properly cooked. With comfort in the flavor not a weird fishy taste.
google avatar

Chase H.

Yelp
Only ordered take-out from here, the food I received was delicious and still very warm! Great service. Amazing portions too. Was able to feed everyone and still had leftovers

Ann A.

Yelp
Very hot and smoky (from cooking), with dust on walls and wall hangings. Dirty ceilings.""""

Yelp
Whoa, I was looking for a great Chinese food spot.I can finally say that I have found a great place They made the food very quickly the food was fresh flavors were everywhere and the food was great. The prices are phenomenal the specials are outstanding and they have great customer service they also deliver within a three mile radius of their restaurant for free. Locals you got to check this place out. Tourists you got to order this stuff and have it delivered to your hotel even though it might cost a little bit extra it's worth it. Keep up the great work!!

Vicky L.

Yelp
Great food and very affordable! Fresh veggies and good fried rice! Will definitely order take out from there again!
google avatar

Norm K.

Yelp
I decided to have an easy dinner and it's been awhile since I got Chinese take out. The reviews of Pearl Wok To Go were good and I went there. I ordered the Szechuan trio which was chicken, scallops, and shrimp. It was good but it wasn't very spicy. I need to ask for extra spice when I order. I got garlic chicken for my wife. It, too, was good but there wasn't much of a garlic flavor. There were some cut up fresh garlic in the stir fry that didn't have much taste at all. We each got a cup of soup--me hot and sour and wonton for my wife. These were the standouts of my order. We also got two complimentary egg rolls. They give one with a purchase of a certain amount and I guess since we got two dinners, we got two egg rolls. The portions were large. We have leftovers for tomorrow night. I think I've really lost my taste for Chinese stir fry. It just doesn't cut it anymore.

Yelp
I have an aquaintance I met at a party that always texts me "What's good?" You wanna know what's good? The Mongolian Beef at Pearl Wok To Go. I stopped on by here for lunch with Jen S. on Christmas Eve (12/24/10) because I was staying with her for the week while my family was out of state. We weren't sure what to get and I was dying for something hot and spicy, and cheap. Luckily, Pearl fit the bill. I ordered the $5.50 lunch special - Mongolian Beef (ordered with double the hot red peppers because I love them!) wonton soup, steamed rice and an egg roll. Holy moly, do I love Mongolian Beef. It's my go to dish. It was scalding hot when I got it and it was so spicy, my eyes were about to burst - just how I like it. I crave those hot red peppers. The meat was so tender and yummy, I want to go get some right this second (too bad it's so far away from my house!) The eggrolls, which I usually never like at any place, were pretty good. The soup was also good, but one wonton was under cooked so the wrapper tasted a little doughy, but that's okay. Jen ordered the broccoli chicken. I ate her leftovers a couple days later, and it was okay, so I'm not factoring that into this review. The fact I want to go get more of that Mongolian Beef, and have wanted to for the past four days should attest to the fact that Yay! I'm a fan. Four stars!
google avatar

Daniel Dong-Kyu K.

Yelp
Been a regular here since 2004. Still my favorite chinese food in Vegas for take out. I get the Mongolian Beef or Kung Pao Triple Delight everytime! MSG free, and you can't beat their lunch specials ($5.50 + soup and egg roll).
google avatar

Daniel D.

Yelp
Best Price. Best Quality! Love these guys, they are my go to meal when I forget my lunch at home or just want a quick chinese food fix. AMAZING!

Candice C.

Yelp
Been coming here since the day they opened. Highly recommended All time faves are Beef w/ Broccoli or Asparagus, Sweet and Sour Pork, Mongolian Beef, Shrimp w/ Lobster Sauce, Happy Family, Mapo Tofu, Volcano Shrimp, Sesame Chicken, Lemon Chicken ... lemme just say, everything on the menu is spot on.
google avatar

Kay C.

Yelp
Wasn't what I had hoped for. Food was ready on time, and my order was correct. Everything was hot. However didn't love the taste of the food. Some of the food I got was really very bland. Didn't taste like it had any seasoning at all. I don't like spicy food and it was not spicy, but also just needed some seasoning.

Jeff M.

Yelp
Always appreciate responses from restaurants, but admitting that they sold and delivered food made by someone who was not yet up to their standards? Doesn't speak well of them. And yes, it was chicken skin we removed.

Lyell C.

Yelp
I've ordered from Pearl Wok To Go several times and generally they have good food and super great delivery. However, the other night I ordered Generals Chicken and was cooked and reheated. Just to not Peral Wok, if you deep fry chicken twice the chicken becomes stringy and darkens in color, not good. You missed the mark on my last order.
google avatar

Terry N.

Yelp
I love this great little place, close to my home. Choices are ample, the cook...she works so quickly as I'm usually in/out in less than 15 minutes. Good food for the price, and a good quantity too! Lucky to have found them in my neighborhood
