Where to Eat in Bainbridge Island - Eater Seattle

"With a long day ahead, you’ll want to fuel up on caffeine, so plan a stop at Pegasus Coffee House, a roaster that has been in business since 1980 and which claims to be the first place to serve espresso over the counter in the Seattle area." - Jay Friedman

Pretty slow at 11am on a Thursday, but they had a nice upstairs loft I did some work in. The coffee was good, the pastry was decent, and the breakfast burrito was solid. The servers seemed friendly and I could hear them talking to other patrons in a kind way. So that was cool.

It was open early in the Christmas eve morning. The coffee was good. We also had a slice of banana bread which was soft and moist. I would like to go back for more coffee. The barista was nice. Many people walked in for takeouts. There are seats on the 2nd floor. We didn’t go up.

I absolutely love Pegasus! The coffee and pastries are delicious and Apollo in particular is very good with people and about remembering everyone’s orders. I keep coming back and would 10/10 recommend. Bring a magnet to add to their growing collection 🥰

Google
Delicious coffee with a great vibe. The barista was super kind and helpful picking out my drink. There is plenty of seating on two levels. I definitely recommend if you are in the area.

I’ve been coming to Pegasus for the last 5 and a half years and it’s always my go to place. The baristas, Apollo and Eugene are so fabulous. They remember their frequent customers, their names and their orders. and welcome anyone and everyone who walks into the door. They want to get to know their customers. Even being in the middle of Pioneer Square, Pegasus has always brought me a sense of calm. I’ll always go back to Pegasus, no matter what!!!

Google
Fairly good coffee and tea at Pegasus and it is just across the street from Piroshki on 3rd. The ambiance is nice with seating on the entrance floor with a loft area upstairs. This gives the main room an airy feeling and lighting is good. The seating downstairs is fairly standard for a coffee house while the loft reminds me of a dorm lounge with the nondescript tables and chairs interspersed with some lounge chairs. Coffee was OK and London Fog was pretty good.

Google
I stumbled upon this hidden gem of a coffee shop in downtown Seattle's Pioneer Square and I have been hooked ever since. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, making it the perfect spot to relax or get some work done. Their beverage selection is top-notch, with a variety of hot and cold options including espresso, drip coffee, tea, and more. I always have a hard time deciding what to order because everything is so delicious. Not only do they have great drinks, but they also offer a selection of mouthwatering sandwiches, breakfast burritos, and bakery items. I appreciate that they have gluten-free options available as well. But what truly sets this coffee shop apart is the barista Apolo. He is hands down the best barista in Seattle. Not only is he incredibly skilled at making the perfect cup of coffee, but he also goes above and beyond to make sure every customer feels welcome and taken care of. His friendly attitude and genuine passion for coffee always brighten my day. If you're looking for a beverage in Seattle with amazing coffee, delicious food, and exceptional service, look no further than this coffee shop in Pioneer Square. I can't recommend it enough.

Google
This place is great to have a conversation and working. Good atmosphere — local & down to earth.Love the art decor featuring local artists. Great coffee as well. My usual is an oatmilk latte but I recently tried their rye whiskey caramel latte, it was SO DELICIOUS! P.S. don’t forget to check out all the magnets on the espresso machine.

Yelp
Been coming here weekly for years now and it's the best cafe in Seattle. The espresso is always *chefs kiss* incredible. The vibes are unbeatable, I always meet my friends here and it's the highlight of my week. Eugene and Apollo are legends. -Ryan Nagy

Yelp
Going here is always a highlight of my day! Apollo is wonderful and really makes you feel like you're part of a community. The magnets collected from around the world by regulars really show what an amazing place it is. There is great seating, all around a great little escape from rainy, grey downtown Seattle!

Yelp
Loved this cafe! It opened early, and I was enjoying my espresso before 7 am. The shop is located in a business building, and it is really roomy with a loft sitting area along with the main space. The baristas were friendly and knowledgeable about their products. They roast their own beans. The espresso was a blend of their own creation.

Yelp
Another one of many great coffee shops within walking distance from my hotel. You can find Pegasus Coffee Bar inside the Dexter Horton Building but they also have an entrance on 3rd Avenue. My dad and I both went for their iced mocha. The cashier/barista noticed that we were both wearing Red Sox shirts and he struck up a conversation with us about last night's baseball game and the game that we were going to later tonight. He didn't seem to mind that we were rooting for the Red Sox and not the Mariners (sorry about this Mariners fans, lol). Their iced mocha was excellent! I think this was the best one I've had so far during my time in Seattle. They also had a great variety of delicious breakfast items, such as croissants and pastries. I also met Homer Simpson here! He was sitting at one of the tables enjoying his favorite pink doughnut.

Yelp
loved the ambiance of the cafe! the outdoor seating is a nice place to relax. loved the drink options as well! Would go again next time I'm on the island

Yelp
Best coffee shop in Seattle - consistently delicious espresso & coffee, great food, the friendliest service, and plenty of comfortable places to sit whether working or meeting with a friend. The loft has the best view!
google avatar

Nathan K.

Yelp
Delicious coffee with phenominal service. The atmosphere is perfect for meetings, studying, or just hanging out with friends. Every time I visit I always hear laughter from guests as they interact with Eugen and Apollo. Love the culture cultivated in this place!

Yelp
Stumbled upon this cafe on one of early walks in Seattle and I'm glad I did. One of the best coffee's I've had. Brought home an Anniversary Blend and it was just delicious!

Heidi O.

Yelp
The neighborhood favorite for years! Great vibe and yummy coffee! Love seeing Apollo in the morning, grabbing an iced latte and a breakfast burrito. The upstairs is great for a quiet meeting. (Closes earlier these days.)
google avatar

Francesca S.

Yelp
Great coffee and great staff! The spot is cozy with plenty of spots to sit down and enjoy your coffee. Their pastries are delicious and always have an array of options.

Blair J.

Yelp
I was looking for a quick place to grab a coffee before I had to be somewhere close by. Pegasus Coffee was a very pleasant surprise in the desolation of downtown these days. Ordered a coffee and pastry to consume in the shop, and was pleased they were served in a real cup and on a real plate. Nice artwork to look at on the walls. Pleasant music. Comfortable seating with a few small tables. I will be back!

Yelp
Based on the reviews, I was expecting more. Service was friendly and efficient. Atmosphere is ok. Food and beverage just average. I was prepared for an immersive experience sitting in the loft area. It felt blah--tiny footprint and a confusing aesthetic (leather armchairs, a scratched-up builder-grade door, exposed HVAC, and art for sale including a riveting still life of toiletries--eclectic, I guess?). Also, the loft is not a quiet refuge--I heard every word of the conversations the barista had with the customers across the cafe. I ordered a latte and was prepared for the smooth taste. I was not prepared for it to taste like a Quik Trip cappuccino. Perhaps my palate couldn't dig under the dairy to get to the espresso, but I have no opinion on the coffee itself. I guess that counts as smooth. I read raves about the croissants. I tried a chocolate one. The bread was buttery but more moist than flaky. The chocolate was a solid rod inserted through the center that I had to bite into. The barista did not offer to heat it when I ordered; I feel that would have been a must to enjoy as intended. I realize this reads as really negative, but there wasn't anything wrong with my experience. Just no wow factor.

Yelp
Best cold brew in Seattle! Great, friendly staff. Always makes my day a bit brighter :)

Yelp
Had to go to DT for an appointment and of course it had to be during one of Seattle's infrequent snow storms. Figuring out how to get here using the bus was an adventure all in itself and ended up here super early with time to spare. The barista was so nice to keep place open for me just so I can kill time and not freeze outside. Thank you Pegasus for being so warm and welcoming! Oh, and the Americano was delicious.

Kiley B.

Yelp
great coffee, pastries, and service! i love stopping here before heading into the office, highly recommend

Yelp
It was great place to stay for work with good coffee. They have free wifi. My latte came with lid, so I couldn't see the art, but the milk was formed well and taste good. Only down side is that they don't have their own restroom inside. There is one at the building next to, but you need to ask security guy to open the door.
google avatar

Willy M.

Yelp
Wonderful coffee spot as you are going to work, my bus drops me off right in front so it is super convenient for me! Never really super busy when I go and very welcoming staff as you enter. Coffee is pretty tasty, lattes are well made, delicious baked goods & pastries as well. Vanilla Latte was good, not overly sweet and just the way I like it. I got the lemon/lavender scone, it sounded super stuck up when I ordered it but glad I did because it was tasty. I do enjoy talking to the nice staff here, friendly and laid back, good vibe that makes you want to come back every morning. I haven't been up to the loft yet, but may have to in the future when hiding from coworkers.

Yelp
This is a nice spot in downtown Seattle - I especially love their upstairs area for comfortable seating and more privacy. I've only tried their chai latte and Americano, but both were very tasty. Their baristas are super friendly and helpful. I recommend this as a nice place to get some work done or just to relax with a cup of coffee.

Yelp
A Seattle classic... Sit upstairs, sip your delicious coffee, and look down on 3rd Street foot traffic. It's a cozy, but lively, unassuming space. Four stars because: WiFi is there, but it was super slow for me, even on my phone (and I didn't see anyone with laptops open at the time.) My cappuccino was watery (...which unfortunately it happens to me all the time.)

Yelp
Given the locations and hours of Pegasus, it's unlikely you'd find it if you didn't work in the area or weren't specifically looking for it. I haven't worked in the area long, so I haven't been visiting for more than a few years. Honestly, it's a shame I didn't know about it for so long. Pegasus is hands down the best coffee/espresso in Seattle. It's right up there with Monorail Espresso. If you're like me and find Starbucks coffee garbage, and the burnt/heavy taste associated with Ladro and Cherry Street isn't your thing, come here. The cup you'll get will be smooth and delicious and hard to match elsewhere in the downtown core. They also sell all their beans here; there are quite a few different roasts. You can buy the beans whole, or you can ask the baristas to grind them for you based on your coffee maker type. I brought a few different kinds home to my coffee-loving family over the holidays and it was a big hit. Additionally, the people working here are friendly and seem to get to know their regulars. And not in an over-the-top-I'm-forced-to-be-this-friendly way. No one is going to be greeting you with a cheshire grin and disney mouseketeer voice at 10x the normal volume before you can get a drop of caffeine in your veins. Instead, you'll find earnest but casual geniality. I would also comment on how much I love the interior and how it makes me feel like I'm somewhere cozy, warm, and untouched by the constant change that Seattle has undergone in the last several years but unfortunately, they're now remodeling. It makes me sad to see the changes; half of the charm of Pegasus was the shop itself and the feeling of nostalgia associated with the heavy wood and big black leather chairs. But I suppose as long as the coffee remains the same, I'll survive.

Yelp
Dog friendly and people friendly and friendly environment. I really really enjoyed my mocha here too

Khili S.

Yelp
Decent coffee in the heart of downtown if you want to grab quickly during your lunch if you work nearby
google avatar

Nathan H.

Yelp
Pros: Great coffee, good customer service, friendly, manager is hard working and sets a great tone for true work ethics. Cons: In the past, I had a barista be sarcastic with me which is a huge turn off. She was apologetic for an import and has since left, thank God. Advice: Be friendly or shut your mouth; don't hire people like that. No need to be that way in 2018

Yelp
Had a stop during my vacation in Seattle. I ordered a Latte and not only did they serve me the most delicious coffee, they artfully crafted a maple leaf into my drink. The coffee was rich smooth and creamy. Totally 5 star experience.
google avatar

Taylor B.

Yelp
The coffee is really good. Sadly they were out of cold brew (we came on a Monday and they are closed on the weekend). The barista was awesome, very personable and able to offer local insight. This is the kind of place I wish I had in my home town. They have a punch card box where the regulars can store their cards. Real smart.
google avatar

Yelp
This place has good coffee and pastries. The staff was not only friendly, but they obviously have good ongoing relationships with their customers. Most of all, I love the atmosphere. I went here a couple times while traveling to the area because it's a great way to start the day.
google avatar

Paul D.

Yelp
I like to drop in once in awhile during work breaks. Staff are usually very friendly but I had to walk out before ordering today. Cashier was having an extended social conversation with the customer in front of me who had already ordered. Other barista busy trying to fill order; no other customers in sight, As I was leaving she yelled, "Do you want something?" I wanted to say, " No, I just stopped by to watch you talk." I probably will return but maybe I will wear more bling to get better service.
google avatar

Daren D.

Yelp
I love this place. I come in almost every other day for my dirty chai fix (maybe 10% non-usuals like just the chai or coffee). It's a rather mild, smooth and enjoyable DC, if you ask me. No spicy notes, no drab blandness... a pleasant middle ground; same for just a chai latte. It's a great, neat space--subtly stuffy, but not obvious--neat seating, coffee things, knick knacks, an upstairs lil seating cove, Dilbert quotes and a cyan Magic 8 Ball. The girls here are always friendly, funny and super laidback. Take my Dukedom away, I dare you. :D Actually, we can split it multiple ways, k?
google avatar

Rob D.

Yelp
This place is a lot less consistent & when it's good, it isn't as good as it once was. Also, beware the people hanging around the exit - you NEVER know what you're gonna see.
google avatar

Danielle C.

Yelp
Eh. This environment is very cute but I am not sure if I am in a hurry to go back anytime soon. The shop showcases a lot of their coffee beans at the glass counter. I saw Ethiopia Yergacheffe, Sumatra, etc. Maybe their french press or drip coffee is good but I haven't had a chance to try it yet. Their iced mochas left much to be desired. It tasted mostly like sweet chocolate milk, which is a big no no for mochas (at least in my book). I could barely taste the espresso. I gave some for my friend to try and he commented that he felt like a toddler drinking chocolate milk! By the way, the 12 oz was around $3.50.
google avatar

Anna O.

Yelp
You won't find better coffee in Seattle. The guy who complained about the baristas not paying attention to customers must have reviewed the wrong shop. The baristas at Pegasus are THE BEST and get to know their customers personally. I love them! Stopping into Pegasus is often the highlight of my morning (okay, okay...and of my afternoon!)
google avatar

Michael W.

Yelp
After the 3rd time going here, the barista already remembered my order. And less than a minute later my double short latte was waiting on the counter. For being downtown, it's impressive that they can turn around great-tasting espresso that quickly while not feeling rushed along. If I need to do some work on the lappy, this is one of my favorite hangouts. The internet is always fast, and there's quiet, comfortable seating in a loft area above the main entrance. I once overheard an out-of-towner talking on his phone up in the loft. "Yeah, I'm at some fancy Starbucks with a...horse or something on it", he said. Yes you are, my friend, yes you are.
google avatar

M T.

Yelp
Great experience all around. Baristas are attentive and have an amazing knack for remember the drinks of regulars (even after only coming in 2-3 times!). This is a good place to come study/host a work meeting/chill out/etc. Drip coffee is always spectacular and is rotated daily. Plus 3-4pm happy hour with cheap drinks is a fun bonus. 10 out of 10 would recommend. Plus the owner, Jon, is awesome.
google avatar

Lynette Hyerin L.

Yelp
This is a really nice coffee shop. It's good for doing work and also coffee tastes very fresh. They are really flexible with making drink and especially the iced teas are ok point.
google avatar

Erica P.

Yelp
Fun, affordable little coffee shop located on the first floor of one of my company's field offices. If I worked in Seattle permanently I would probably go here every day! Love the non-corporate vibe! How could anyone go wrong with friendly baristas, bold coffee and pegasuses all over the place? Damn, I love Seattle.
google avatar

Monica B.

Yelp
The loft space is too cool for me. I've ventured up there a few times but typically take my coffee "to go." Sometimes, I'll glance up there when I come in and think to myself, "I'm not worthy!" The coffee is solid and during the summer months, I'm definitely a fan of their iced drinks. Over the years, the little things have really made my day. What things you ask? We can start with pastry in the morning from Mon Amie Bakery in Mill Creek. I'm a huge fan of them and each morning, I can walk in and grab myself a gorgeous piece of flaky goodness. If you see the large one with the strawberries, prepare to fight me for it! Another great thing about this location is that they receive food delivery from Peach. For those of us who can't convince co-workers to sign up for Peach, having a place nearby to grab a bite to eat is a really nice perk. Finally, they write really cute things on their signs outside. I must admit that I've Instagrammed my share of coffee humor from this location. The overall low-key vibe of this coffee house is something that I can always appreciate.
google avatar

Elson T.

Yelp
The loft is a great place to relax or get some work down since its away from the main lobby where all the foot traffic is. The Barista's are respectful and know what they're doing and I haven't had any issues since I started coming here. They also have delicious pastries and health conscious alternatives. Quick, easy, and cheap, just like me. :P
google avatar

Bonnie D.

Yelp
John John's Game room has the game Ice Cold Beer. Enjoy! And as far as Pegasus goes great baristas and lattes
google avatar

Julie C.

Yelp
I really love how convenient it is to my office! My coworker's and I would head here for a quick afternoon pick me up. I love their Dirty Chai Latte!
google avatar

Cory P.

Yelp
Most welcoming java spot downtown, this team will do everything to make sure you leave their shop happy. Drip coffee recommended: notes of chocolate, good price, hot all day long.
google avatar

Juan A.

Yelp
Hands down best coffee in the block even better with nice people making it..my favorite it's the triple 20oz black&white with whipped cream yeeessss
google avatar

Nature L.

Yelp
O my god I hate being a female customer here. About 1/2 the female baristas will talk up the guys forever while ignoring my existence even as I'm standing in front of them non-verbally asking, 'Can I just order and then you can go back to your convo?' They have the attitude that they're the barista and can make you wait forever if they want. The drinks are also inconsistent as others have noted. The worst coffee I have had came from this location. Really burnt coffee beans have made more than one drink a sorry purchase.
google avatar

Kate B.

Yelp
Best coffee in the world but I biased bc it's the first coffee I introduced my now husband too. We always leave with pounds of beans - Sumatra and espresso blends are my favorite. You also receive a free drink with bean purchase which is very thoughtful.
google avatar

Garrett S.

Yelp
Hands down the COOLEST and HOTTEST baristas in Seattle. The ladies are by far the warmest personalities in the coffee bar business. And, the coffee is good! I LOVE the peanut butter cookies. And, they have great loft seating with a view of 3rd.
google avatar

Sarah B.

Yelp
Pegasus is hands down my favorite coffee shop in Seattle. I used to work in the same building and now that I am at a new job, I still make sure to go out of my way to go to Pegasus for my coffee. The baristas are wonderful, know their customers and their orders. The coffee there is amazing as well and are very efficient with the work they do. Everything from their book exchange to the questions they have for customers to answer when tipping make for a fun, inviting and warm coffee shop. Go there enough and you will start to know your baristas by name as well! I recommend Pegasus to any of my friends that visit Seattle from out of town.
google avatar

Sam H.

Yelp
I miss my green-clad corporate coffee-slinging overlords, but this is a nice shop. It's filled with a totally different crowd than the Starbucks crowds. The girls behind the counter were not exactly friendly, but not rude either. I've had better treatment at Dilettante mocha bars. They get an extra star for the hipness of the environment. Whenever I try some place new I always get an americano so I can taste the coffee, not the milk. It's OK here. A bit acidic, but not to the level of a Kenyan coffee. It lacks overall body and richness of other local blends. Also, I don't like the no credit card policy unless you spend more than $3. Yes... it speeds the line along and increases your profits, but I don't care about your profits and who wants to hurry when they are getting coffee? The whole point is to stand in line, chat, and enjoy the scene.
google avatar

Thomas L.

Yelp
Best spot to grab coffee downtown! Barista crew is super friendly and know how to work the Marzocco.
google avatar

Sarah B.

Yelp
Oh how I love Seattle's oldest coffee bar! The lovely ladies here offer me quick and tasty libations without me even having to order. Blessed be the regulars! It's a small shop, perfect for the in and out while you wait for the bus or head off to work. The ladies that work the mornings are incredible. Fast, friendly and hard working. I have never been disappointed. They recently started making their own bakery items which I should resist due to my gluten issues but goodness they are beautiful. And to sweeten the deal they have discounted happy hour drink prices in the afternoons and free flavor Fridays.
google avatar

Wes S.

Yelp
I like coffee. No wait, I love coffee. Pegasus has the best coffee in the lower half of downtown. That pretty much says if all.
