The food at Peixes was genuinely delicious. But unfortunately, the service really soured the experience.
My parents and I dined on Saturday 4th October, arriving just before 7pm and waiting specifically to order from the dinner menu. The waitress assigned to our table made us feel like a burden from the start.
When I initially said we’d like two Aperol Spritz, then changed our minds to just one, her expression immediately shifted to visible annoyance. Later, when we politely asked to see the drinks menu again, she handed us the food menu instead, which was fine. But when I clarified again for the drinks menu, she replied “There’s no English menus available right now.”
I responded kindly saying, “That’s okay, don’t worry” hoping to move on without adding to the tension. A little later, she brought us the food menu again, I didn’t make a fuss, knowing it was getting busier. Eventually, my mum simply asked what beers they had, since we no longer had the drinks menu. The server snapped “We only have one local beer on the menu.” Then, when my mum decided to order another Aperol Spritz, the waitress exclaimed sarcastically, “Finally! Two!” as if our table had been an inconvenience from the start.
It was embarrassing, demeaning and ruined what should have been a beautiful, memorable dinner in Nice.
We stayed polite the entire time and didn’t deserve that kind of attitude. It’s a shame, because the food itself was lovely. But the bad service left a lasting impression.
