"Near the town hall and the opera house is Peixes – pronounced "pesh" (i.e. "fish" in Portuguese). In its small bistro interior with white and blue tiles and a very Mediterranean feel, fish and seafood cuisine is served in the form of tapas-style dishes (ceviche, carpaccio, fried fish, cod accras). This is a popular place, and spots on the terrace are hotly contested (no reservations!)." - Michelin Inspector

Peixes is a restaurant that is most certainly worth any wait you may face for a table! The seafood dishes here are delicious and innovative. I love their lunch time offering, it’s great value! The mussels as well as their salmon or tuna tartares are a must try. The scallops ceviche was also an unusual and creative dish, I’ve never had scallops served this way before! Staff are friendly and provide personable service despite the busy nature of the restaurant. Tables turn relatively fast so don’t be turned off by the walk-ins only policy. It’s a restaurant I try to get to every time I visit Nice, not to be missed!

We had such a great meal at Peixes! Everything was fresh and full of flavor. The mussel casserole with saffron sauce was absolutely delicious — the sauce had a light sweetness and paired perfectly with sourdough. The mussels were super fresh and plump. The scallop ceviche was a highlight — it was my first time trying scallop served this way, and I loved the bright, tangy flavors. The sea bass ceviche was also excellent — the cream with dill was an unexpected but amazing touch that balanced everything beautifully. But the real standout was the octopus noodle dish. It had both sliced and whole pieces of octopus — the slices were crispy outside and tender inside, while the whole piece was incredibly soft and flavorful. A must-order! The half-baked salmon was good, though more within expectations compared to the other dishes. Definitely a place I’d recommend if you want something fresh, fun, and different in Nice!

We have only words of praise for this place. There is no reservation, but you show up and they either sit you right away or they ask you to come back in 20min. Don't be afraid of the line because it moves quickly:) The food is exceptional - fresh, well prepared and beautifully composed. Every condiment of the dish is well thought and has a meaning. The wine list is perfect - best of (i really think that you can't make a mistake whatever you order). Very important thing - stuff 💗 They work so hard and they are so busy - but they are very well organized and they are very good at providing excellent service. We really appreciate it. Thank you Naomi, you were wonderful as well as the whole experience. 💞Best dinner we had in a long time, and we will come back for sure. Hats off to the entire team

A popular location for seafood, close to many tourist areas. We had dinner here and found the food to be delicious and inventive. Of note, we had an octopus pasta with a delicious balance of flavours. Only downside, when eating on the patio many pedestrians tend to walk through. If that could be blocked off, it would improve the experience. Would recommend this location to seafood lovers from out of town.

The food at Peixes was genuinely delicious. But unfortunately, the service really soured the experience. My parents and I dined on Saturday 4th October, arriving just before 7pm and waiting specifically to order from the dinner menu. The waitress assigned to our table made us feel like a burden from the start. When I initially said we’d like two Aperol Spritz, then changed our minds to just one, her expression immediately shifted to visible annoyance. Later, when we politely asked to see the drinks menu again, she handed us the food menu instead, which was fine. But when I clarified again for the drinks menu, she replied “There’s no English menus available right now.” I responded kindly saying, “That’s okay, don’t worry” hoping to move on without adding to the tension. A little later, she brought us the food menu again, I didn’t make a fuss, knowing it was getting busier. Eventually, my mum simply asked what beers they had, since we no longer had the drinks menu. The server snapped “We only have one local beer on the menu.” Then, when my mum decided to order another Aperol Spritz, the waitress exclaimed sarcastically, “Finally! Two!” as if our table had been an inconvenience from the start. It was embarrassing, demeaning and ruined what should have been a beautiful, memorable dinner in Nice. We stayed polite the entire time and didn’t deserve that kind of attitude. It’s a shame, because the food itself was lovely. But the bad service left a lasting impression.

Not your typical seafood spot — and that’s a good thing. This place delivers fresh, flavorful seafood with a unique twist that leaves you feeling happy and surprisingly light. It’s not your old-school seafood joint — the menu is inventive, the flavors are clean, and every bite feels just right. Be ready for a line at lunch — but don’t worry, it moves quickly. Patience pays off here. The energy is high, the pace is fast, and the wait is part of the experience. Pro tip: Ask for your condiments with your order. The staff are friendly but busy, and you’ll want everything on hand when your food arrives — which happens fast. Seating is crowded but somehow still comfortable enough for a proper conversation. It’s buzzy, flavorful, and worth the wait.

We had a great pre-dinner snack here at Peixes. Do note that they don’t serve the dinner menu (which includes the mussels) until 7pm. We arrived at 5pm so we grabbed the oysters, fried whitebait and scallop ceviche, along with a bottle of white. The food was delicious, oysters were really fresh, although not super big but very clean and crisp tasting. Scallop ceviche was refreshing and tangy, and the fried whitebait was great too. Later on at 7pm we managed to order the mussels. The mussels were probably the star of the show, with a beautiful saffron sauce, and the staff kindly provided us extra bread upon request. Do recommend!

This terrace restaurant is the spot in Nice for fish and seafood. The sharing-style menu focuses on raw preparations and fritters, with fresh oysters and vibrant ceviches as highlights, served efficiently in a relaxed atmosphere.
