The 25 Best Places To Eat & Drink In Hong Kong

"Peking Garden is from the same people as Maxim’s and has been serving their namesake ducks since the ’70s. Don’t be put off by the crowd of suits - the traditional-leaning food here is super popular with locals too. Obviously you need to be ordering Peking duck, but the onion cakes shouldn’t be skipped either." - jess basser sanders

The 38 Best Restaurants in Hong Kong | Eater

"For decades, local families have been celebrating with Peking Garden’s duck, beggar’s chicken (chicken baked in a pastry casing), and noodles pulled tableside. While no one minded the ’80s decor, the recent freshening up was a welcome change, making it an even better place to take in the views of Victoria Harbour, and for the right price too. It delivers the authentic taste of Chinese food in Beijing style. The food quality is quite good and presentation is fine in standard as well. I would like to point out the service standard is not up to the par as the servers keep urging us to leave by collecting the plates immediately when we have finished the dishes.

The restaurant is so cozy and quiet, unlike most of the Chinese restaurants which are crowded and noisy. We tried the chef recommended lunch menu.$1260 for two. Grilled bean curd sheet with spare ribs in sweet and vinegar sauce. The bean curd sheet are the best that I ever had! It is so soft and delicious! Spare ribs are in sweet and sour sauce, though there re not much meat but the taste is good. Double boiled abalone with sea whelks, conpoy and cordycep flower This soup is so good! It is not oily and very rich in taste, umami! With rich seafood flavor and it comforts the stomach and my tongue. Yummy! BBQ peking duck ( half bird) The peking duck is roasted perfectly, there re no fat under the skin at all, skin is crispy , not too fat nor too thin, with thin warp and cucumber, and some sweet sauce, so delicious! Love it! Sautéed spinach with bean curd sheet The bean curd sheet is smooth, the spinach s seasoning is good but the texture is not so smooth, overall is ok. Sweetened Almond juice with egg The almond juice is so creamy and rich in almond flavor, very smooth without overly sweetened, a delicate taste, love it!

Great service and food. The signature combination of 10 Peking specialties is a great way to start off the meal and good for sharing. Each of them has a distinctive taste with vegan options in the mix. Highly recommend their Peking duck, really fragrant and juicy duck paired with fresh cucumber, spring onions, all wrapped in a piping hot handmade pancake. The Sichuan boiled fish gives it a really nice kick to spice up the meal. The beautifully presented toffee banana is a nice way to wrap up the meal.

A well-known Michelin starred Chinese restaurant famous for its barbecued duck. The duck is well balanced for its meat and fat, so delicious! It’s also very tasty for the sweet and sour prawns, drunken chicken, vegetables, xiao long bao, and the typical and classic Chinese dessert! My family loves it!

Tried the 1-person lunch combo take out, ordered through Keeta. With Keeta coupon it’s about HKD90, reasonable price. Not sure if can WhatsApp order directly with restaurant and have it cheaper? I don’t know, but I will try and explore next time…

The first time I ate in this Peking Garden (Alexandra House) was in the 1980s, and I still come back every time I’m in Hong Kong. The duck is slightly deteriorated compared with what I remember, but at least they now sell you half-ducks (you used to have to find another diner who was willing to take the other half) and don’t make you wait almost an hour. To compensate for a slightly weaker duck flavor, sprinkle salt before spreading the plum sauce. (There’s no salt on the table, so just ask for it.) Service is efficient, especially considering how busy this place usually is. Treat the staff with respect, and you’ll get respect in return. The standard tip in Hong Kong from a Cantonese patron is still hovering below 10%, but as a foreigner you should probably leave 12-15%.
