Peking House Restaurant

I came in about 45 minutes before they closed and they were so welcoming and happy to have me. I ordered a half and half cashew and sweet and shower chicken and drive 45 minutes home before I ate it. IT WAS STILL WARM! So, first off awesome. The presentation, I swear opening this box with this food was like Indiana Jones opening the satchel with the golden light. The chicken is juicy, the flavor is phenomenal, the egg roll is probably the best one I ever had. This may have been my first visit here, but I'll definitely be coming back. I wish I could give more than 5 stars.

The cashew chicken and sweet and sour chicken were both excellent. The crab lagoon was delightful. The best thing about our experience were the 3 young staff members. They were knowledgeable, plight and a joy to interact with. We were visiting from Georgia and got some of the yummy food to take home with us. We will be back when we visit again.

I love eating here! We eat here a lot. Always clean, great service, fantastic food! We went on Christmas Eve this year and the place was extremely busy. Every worker was smiling, and the food came out delicious as always. Whether you are the only customer or the line is out the door, their attention to each customer is unmatched. It is well worth the wait!

Peking House is SO GOOD!!! I like their sweet n sour chicken, and their chicken and broccoli!!! Everything is always hot and fresh tasting, and I haven’t had a fatty piece of chicken! The sweet n sour has good flavor and the chicken seems like it’s really good quality! The chicken and broccoli is more bland by itself, which my mom really appreciates with her not liking too much flavoring, but I add sweet and sour sauce to it and it’s perfect! And I always feel full, but I don’t feel bad after eating it, personally!

First and last time eating here. Spent $63 on my horrible food. Only received partial of my order. (Thank goodness I checked before leaving.) The lo mein "soft noodles" is just spaghetti noodles with half cooked vegetables. The "fried rice" is just steamed white rice with some scrambled eggs. The sweet n sour sauce is watered down and thickened with corn flour. Horrible, expensive, disappoint. Never again will I eat here and will tell others not to waste their money here.

Stopped here on a whim and was pleasantly surprised. Service was great and answered all our silly questions. Food was served quickly and fresh. We got dinner for 2 cashew chicken and it was very good. We will return again!

For $14 I got this little lunch portion of beef and broccoli. I am pissed. This is dinner time and this serving is for a child. To top it off it's nasty. The rice is steamed not fried with no soy sauce. I went back the next day to get a replacement. The young lady was so sweet but then came an older lady with a million questions. I didn't like how she handled it but she still gave me another dish and made sure she said "only this time".... Don't worry cause I'll never come back. The chicken green bean was so bland I had to go home and add sauce. It's just not for me. I wish I could get my money back.

Peking House was delicious and one of the cleanest Chinese places I’ve been to in Springfield! The interior was spotless and well decorated. Dish prices were fair and the service was very friendly. We will definitely be back!

3.x stars for this place is pure nonsense. 5 stars this place is! I've eaten here many times. The ingredients used are better than most. A clean fresh taste to the base ingredients. It doesn't matter what you get here - it is all real food stuff and always a great meal at Peking. Staff and owners are wonderful. Try it sometime...you'll love it.

This place is honestly so amazing, growing up in Springfield but living in St. Louis, I miss the Chinese food. This is often my first stop when I come into town to grab an order of general chicken, it's more on the sweet side and has an amazing umami about it. I'll always order a dinner for two sauce on the side when heading back home. Other dishes are good too!

this is my favorite sweet-n-sour chicken in Springfield. The sauce is the very best and when added to either noodles or rice it's just wonderful. Peking House has been a Springfield establishment for probably 40 years. The owners and staff are friendly and the place always seems clean. I think I'll go there tomorrow.

The food was okay but small portions for $12 for each entrée. You get a lot of rice and vegetables and small portions of meat! Ordered 2 items and 6 pieces of crab Rangoon. For 2 people and still hungry. For $34 not a good deal! Less food and for more $$$ no left over's anymore!

I have been going to Peking House off and on since 1988. Their cashew chicken was so good: crisp, flavorful. I haven't eaten there for about a year and I don't know what has happened. I went through drive through and everyone was friendly as usual. I was so looking forward to my meal as it was a splurge for me and I was so disappointed. I paid .60 extra for all white meat but it wasn't. Some were grizzly and I couldn't eat it. The chicken was not crispy at all and had very little batter. It was bland and so was the gravy. It's called cashew chicken and I counted 3 cashews. No green onions on top. I am sad to post this because Peking's was always my pick. I hope this causes them to get back to their crispy, flavorful cashew chicken. Maybe today was just a bad fay but my meal was very bad.

My friends in Springfield have been telling me for yeas that you can't get decent Chinese food here. They complain insescently about the food having a lack of spiciness to it, and say that the Springfield Chicken is horrible, which is this towns take on Cashew Chicken I guess. Yet they keep dragging me here for some reason. I have to agree with them though, as I've now had their Kung Pao chicken, their Mongolian Beef and their Fried Wontons. The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. I haven't been to any other Chinese food places in town yet, but hopefully there are better options out there, as this place is just so-so. It's sort of the PB&J of Chinese food joints. It will fill you up, and you will eat it, but there isn't anything special about it.

Amazingly clean. Party of three agreed the food was not disappointing, not amazing - but good. No frills. A Simple Quiet place. Service was good. We agreed we would return.

I'm very picky when it comes to Chinese & Picky bout my chicken. Most joints under cook the Chicken to where it has a grisly chew to it. That just ruins it across the board for my meal. I LOVE everything I've tried from Peking House. The owners are very hands on 50/50 I pull in & their who handles my order. I always gotta get a side of the Lo Main noodles, the sauce they cook it in assuming oyster sauce is different from the noodles else where!

If you are on the south side of Springfield this place is definitely worth checking out. Located on east sunshine street this Chinese joint has all the basic flavors. While this is not my go to spot I stop here occasionally. They offer decent portion sizes for decent prices. I enjoy there sweet and sour and their hot and spicy. There crab Rangoon is also a favorite. Customer service is always good as well.

It hurts me to not give 5 starts to Peking. This is by far my favorite Chinese place in Springfield and I make a point to visit when I am in town. However, the service I received when I was last here was awful. I was helped by a young red head girl and she was beyond rude. Would not look my party in the eye and hardly spoke. I don't want the service to start to negatively effect the reputation of one of the best locations for Springfield style cashew chicken.

Best Chinese take-out in Springfield. Owners are long-time Springfieldians who are invested in the community and the food and service reflect that. Love the Szechuan chicken! Won Ton soup is a real winner. Best quality and value in town when compared to competition.

Very nice restaurant. Food is always tasty and hot. No long waits either. I've eaten Chinese food at several different locations in Springfield and none compare to Peking House.

4 stars the food and maybe one star for the service. We ordered Kung Pao tofu, lo mein, spring rolls and rice. The noodles were a bit overcooked and some the veggies were canned, however the sauce and overall flavor was awesome! It was hard to put the fork down. The service left a lot to be desired. We've never been to this place before and when we walked in we didn't know you had to order at the counter. There was no sign to say order here and at least two workers walked right around us and ignored us. On the third pass my husband spoke up and asked if we just sat ourselves. She gave us a puzzled look and then began to explain that we needed to order at the counter first. Sorry....but it wasn't obvious. Restaurant workers...just be aware that not everyone knows how your show runs.

If you want 4 small pieces of chicken and 75% rice for a combo order then you are at the right spot. Use to love going to Peking house but this last time for takeout had the three of us still hungry and disappointed...especially for the price.

We used to frequent Peking house but I don't think we will be coming back. For $9 you get the same amount of food as a child's portion. Incredibly disappointed with the stingy portions. It didn't used to be this way.

I ate an order of general chicken ten minutes ago, yet the food is so forgettable that I'm having a hard time recollecting if I gained any pleasure from eating it or if I ate it purely out of utilitarian necessity. In any case, my handy bottle of sriracha saved the day. I hoped not to need it because I asked them to make the chicken extra spicy. I've tasted spicier corn flakes. Sadly, we also ordered the Szechuan chicken, which looked paler than early 2000s Michael Jackson. I must admit that I enjoyed the crab rangoons - they are my vice and the only reason Peking House got a second star. The carry out service was fast and convenient and the staff seemed friendly enough. All in all there are way too many options in town to justify returning here.

Peking House is our family favorite Chinese restaurant. Even though we live in Republic, we happily make the trip across town because of fantastic food, and fast and friendly service. Their General Chicken is the best I've ever had. My wife loves their cashew chicken and their sweet and sour chicken. All in all, it's a fantastic place to eat!

Probably the best Chinese restaurant for a date. The lighting is a little on the dim side, the place was very clean and the limited seating kept the noise low. The portions are smaller so you don't look like a fatty scarfing down a huge plate of food. Chicken and cashew sauce we're decent but nothing special. The vegetables were super clean and crisp though. Probably the most fresh tasting vegetables of any Chinese restaurant I've been to in town.

Drive thru is a little slow but the food is good and reasonably priced. Eaten there twice and was happy both times with the overall quality and consistency of the food.

Go through the drive through often, love, love the egg drop soup. Servings are generous, I usually get the child's cashew chicken with rice and egg drop soup. Excellent and affordable fast oriental food.

We have been going through Peking house the last six months getting general chicken, beef fried rice, general dinner for two. We always order fried rice with no onion. The food is adequate enough and the location convenient enough that when we crave "Chinese," this is a quick go to, even if the drive thru employee has sometimes been pretty rude, shutting the window while we were midsentence or trying to ask a question, enough so that at times the owner has taken over and finished up the interaction. However this last time we ordered the dinner for two, 11/4/18, we were told that if we didn't want onion in the rice, they would have to give us steamed rice. Ok. This didn't make sense so I called and asked if they changed how they do their fried rice and they said no, they've always put onions in their fried rice. My problem with this is that we have either been lied to or ignored by staff when requesting no onions every time we've ordered prior to this visit, or this final- FINAL- visit we were lied to about them being unable to make a batch without onion. Lying to someone about food is a huge deal- you don't know if someone makes a special request due to preference or allergy, and in food service it is always safest to assume allergy. We will not be returning to Peking House because I'm not going to eat anywhere I can't trust the employees. It is disturbing to me that the employee who answered the phone didn't seem to understand this. I'm sorry, it's too infuriating for me to even be witty about it. As far as anything their menu claims is spicy- it's not. Not even close. We got general chicken- it's basically sweet and sour chicken without the sour. Straight up sugar chicken, zero kick. I mean like not even white people spicy. You can't just dye something red and tell people it's hot. But I guess that wouldn't be the first lie, would it?

Best beef and broccoli ever. Incredible potsticker sauce. Crab rangoons are awesome! Drive through is a plus. Friendly staff and a clean dining room make for a great experience.

Stopped by for lunch. Service was very friendly so good points for that. The food on the other hand was below average. I had the general chicken combo which came with 2 crab rangoons. The sauce was not spicey and found out after I started eating that you can order hotter via another yelpers review. That said the chicken wasn't great and the crab rangoons while having light crunchy outside were let down by their filling. The cost was very low but given how many low cost Chinese places are in town you can easily find other options. Hate giving low stars but if it wasn't for the friendly service I'd have given a one.

first let me start by saying the food was tasty and the customer service was good... the reason they only get 3 stars is because of their portion size.. im a 6ft 230lbs man and the amount of food i got at 6pm was very very small... i found myself still hungry after finishing. i should have got a dinner for 2 with how small the size was. i hope they consider making their portion size significantly bigger in the future because i don't feel i got my money's worth.

I'm surprised at how many on here complain about the General Tso's chicken not being spicy, but never mention trying the Hot and Spicy chicken, which is THE whole reason to go to Peking House. Pure heaven! They lose one star for inconsistency (sometimes better, sometimes more food in an order, etc.) but still my favorite Chinese food.

Most food is good... on par with other places in pricing and flavor. But their hot and spicy chicken is on a whole different level! It's simply amazing! Gets a thumbs up from me for that alone.

This is my favorite Chinese restaurant in Springfield. Peking was the go to spot for my friends and I in high school. I have since moved out of state but always make sure when I am in town to stop here and eat.....a few times. The food is fresh, clean (not greasy), and the staff is always friendly.

Stopped in at 4:30 after a day of shopping. First time at this restaurant. I relied on Yelp reviews to find a good Chinese restaurant and this turned out to be a good choice. My mom has trouble with mobility so I seated her and grabbed some menus. You're supposed to order at the register, but Lily saw us and came over and offered to take our order which was much appreciated. Mom got the cashew chicken combo and I got the generals chicken combo, both with white meat. Mine was excellent and she raved about hers as well. The crab Rangoon were also very tasty. With beverage our total order was $23. Portions are generous and we could barely finish it. I was amazed at how quickly the food came to us, hot and delicious. You can tell they use quality ingredients. We sat in the dining area - it was very clean and modern. Would definitely recommend and will be back again. I noticed they also have a drive through for convenience!

My family has been going here for the past 15 years, and it is our favorite Asian food in Springfield. No buffet, but the service is quick and friendly. It is always clean. I highly recommend it!

The general chicken is different than other places. Still good, just not like most places around Springfield.

I'm not giving them one star because of their food. I'm giving one star because they refuse to give me food. In 1993 I lost my right leg in operation Desert Storm; it's very difficult for me to get out of the house. So naturally I'm a huge fan of taxi services that can bring me food, I badgered a local delivery service to bring me Peking House, and after 4 years they finally allowed me to place an order for Peking House. Like many other reviewers I love their food. So I was thrilled to get Peking House food delivered to me. This lasted for a whopping 3 weeks. I am now told that the owners of Peking House refuse to give my food to the driver. Their reason, because they said they have no control over the quality of their food, during delivery. I don't know if there are any other reasons, but this is ridiculous, how is it any different than any other person going through their drive thru? I just don't understand how this is even legal; I mean if a restaurant can't refuse service to a blind person because they have a service dog, how can they refuse business to my service man? I understand they may not want to provide delivery themselves but to prevent me from having someone get my food is wrong I feel my civil rights have been violated. I just can't believe that I gave my leg so they can have the right to run a restaurant, to then in turn deny my business. I'm on an extremely tight budget so obviously hiring an attorney isn't an option for me. All I have is this computer and my opinion.

The best Chinese food! Very friendly service! The chicken is great quality and the breading is perfect. Everything we ordered was excellent...the crab Rangoon is the best! We will be back!!

Quality does seem to be a bit different every time I go in, but never enough to make me dislike my meal, the past few times I've been have actually been my favorite. I've have tried many other Chinese restaurants in Springfield but none of them seem to match up to Peking. My favorites are their sweet and sour chicken and the veggie lo mein. Also, I highly recommend the chocolate chip wontons. Warm wontons filled with cookie dough and hot fudge on the side- one of my favorite desserts.

My favorite thing at Peking House is their general chicken. They don't make it spicy on the menu but they make every stir fry from scratch so they can add however much spice you would like to any stir fry dish. The restaurant is very clean and their service is outstanding! The waitresses are extremely friendly and helpful! I also love how happy and nice everyone always is when I walk through the door. They even have a vegetarian menu and can make certain gluten-free dishes.

The hot and spicy chicken is wonderful! The cashew chicken was great too. Our issue was the portion size. We paid the same or more than we do at other local Asian establishments. However, our portions were much smaller. Neither of us had our usual leftovers.

First time here. Not bad. Kids enjoyed it. The general chicken is the second best I've had in Springfield since Mandarin Inn went out. However... I ordered it "as hot as you can get it." Didn't even register on the heat scale. Still... That combination of honey sweet and spicy is hard to attain. This is a dark red sauce on the Springfield chicken. The stir fry general is sweeter with more of a brown sauce. I'll be back to see if they can actually make it hot.

Hit the drive through and asked for sweet and sour chicken, chicken only... So they write down "no sauce, no rice".... Basically gave me chicken nuggets, no rice, that's not sweet and sour chicken. Then tell me I was the wing one for ordering "no sauce"... Never was "no sauce" said. This place used to be a favorite, now they lost a few customers over being idiots.

Horrible place!! The first time I ate at the Peking house the food wasn't bad but it also wasn't the best. Second time it was absolutely horrible. I got cashew chicken and the chicken was hard and didn't taste good. Tasted like it had been sitting out for a few hours. I was so disappointed. Ate one piece of chicken and had to throw the rest away. horrible place that I recommend not eat at.

I grew up eating here and have always loved it. I try to swing by whenever I come back to Springfield to visit. The general chicken combo with all white meat is what I typically order. Their general chicken is quite a bit different than any other place I've had it at but that is a good thing. It stays true to the mix of sweet and spice but the breading is a bit lighter than most places which make the chicken less greasy, the all white meat is pretty top notch, and most notably, the general chicken sauce is much sweeter and silkier in consistency. It's a darker, very mild sauce, which I like a lot, so if you like spicy then you should request it. I brought someone here who really doesn't like sweet foods and prefers spicy food to be spicier but they actually loved the general chicken as is without any changes. I also really love their egg drop soup and their crab rangoons. The crab rangoons are always perfectly crispy (not under or over cooked in any places) and filled with a smooth cream cheese and imitation crab bits. The staff usually consists of young high school or college aged kid but the service is always as helpful and friendly as ever. Jerry, the owner, is usually there and is always very welcoming and working hard. I'd definitely recommend giving this place a try, especially for the general chicken.

Had the combo with general's chicken, side of rice and two wantons. It was really really good. I could have eaten the rice totally plain.

This is now my new FAVORITE Chinese place! My husband and I would frequent Chinese Chef off of Enterprise. It was cheap and good. Then they seem to have lowered their quality in their food. Their chicken was grissly and the crab rangoon was nothing but crust. Also, their building smelt so weird...So for lunch a friend and I went to Peking House. I fell in love! The place was clean and the staff was friendly. The food was hot and fresh, the crab rangoon was so creamy and hot. I'm in love! So my husband picked some up for us on his way home one night and the food was just as good! Crab rangoon was awesome and the food was so fresh and hot! I will recommend this place to everyone!

The quality of Peking House's products seems to have declined. The last several times I have ordered my favorite Beef and Broccoli the beef has been very fatty and chewy. This is very disappointing due to the fact that I haven't been able to find another Chinese restaurant in Springfield that serves this dish the way that I like it.

The food was decent until I found a hair in my Hunan chicken... Staff also rude, talked amongst themselves and didn't pay attention to the customer. Not worth coming back with so many other choices in town. Sorry, Peking House!

1st time here, and VERY impressed. I've been to many Chinese restaurants all over the country and this is the cleanest "take out" I've ever been in. I actually ate dine in and it is nice and relaxing. Staff vet friendly and helpful. And they have a drive thru. Wish I had one of these in my town

The hot and spicy chicken is soooo delicious! This 5 star rating is simply for that alone, I won't try any other entree there after I've had this. The crab Rangoon is good too!

This is by far my favorite place to eat in Springfield. The food is always hot and fresh. The restaurant is clean, the staff is very nice. And the order is always correct. Prices are fair for the portion size and service you receive. Yummy food! Will continue my weekly visits.

One of the best Chinese places in town. A little bit pricey for what you get, but the food is always good. Love the sesame chicken here.
