"Located in Chinatown, this Malaysian spot is an easy meetup for folks coming from all around the Boston area. Many circular tables make Penang a group-friendly experience, especially if you’re lucky and land one of the tables with a Lazy Susan. From the massive menu, be sure to try the homemade roti and the beef rendang with coconut rice." - Celina Colby, Erika Adams, Karen Wilber

"Penang’s roti canai is a sort of crispy pancake served with curry chicken dipping sauce, and it — along with the nasi lemak, which is a coconut-flavored rice dish served with a chile- and anchovy-spiked curry chicken and a hard-boiled egg — is what you should order at one of the area’s only Malaysian restaurants. (There’s also a Waltham location.)" - Valerie Li Stack, Eater Staff

Phenomenal food, one of the best meals I’ve had in Chinatown! The green curry was bright and complex in flavor and the perfect level of spicy. The ginger duck noodle broth was so tasty, the tender duck and egg noodles were simply fantastic. The rice was the perfect balance of salty and sweet. Service was attentive and friendly, the atmosphere is clean and spacious, somewhat busy with an energetic buzz. I liked the opening kitchen concept as everything was so clean and made me feel comfortable. I will definitely return and bring all my friends!

Anytime I’m back in Boston, I will always come back here! The food is amazing. Pancake as an appetizer is a must! The Thai milk tea is also so good. I think this was my third visit. Loved the food that I ordered here! I loved the pancake that you use to dip with curry. The stir fried dishes were really yummy (really recommend the beef) so I will definitely come back here!!

Best thing about this restaurant: speed. All the dishes we ordered were served 5-10min! It’s incredibly FAST considering the restaurant had at least another 20-30+ diners when we were sat. Maybe they had one chef making each specialized dish we ordered at the same time? Char Kway teow was pretty decent, high wok-hey although the flat noodles were too thin (not broad enough like the authentic kway teow noodles). Dry beef curry was not dry at all, the gravy v yummy, meat tender, taste like rendang. Duck noodles soup was delicious, the noodle texture was Hong Kong style! Kang Kong Blacang was 5/5 ✅ DISAPPOINTED: the nasi Lemak rice tastes bad. The texture of the rice is off, like they use some cheap American rice instead of jasmine rice? About 1/4 way through eating, my son found a fat bug in the middle of his nasi lemak. Well he couldn’t continue eating because it’s just disgusting. I didn’t give a bad rating because 1. The wait staff apologized 2. They took the item (which was barely eaten) off the bill without us requesting 3. They offered a small bobo Hitam desert (which was really yummy ) on the house I felt that they tried to apologize and make it up. We were satisfied with everything else so we didn’t complain. Just hope that’s a one off thing and it wasn’t a dirty kitchen! *Finding parking as usual in this part of town was tricky so be prepared

The watercress dish was my favorite for the dinner. My second favorite was the chicken sauce that came with the Indian bread. Both I would highly recommend you to try. Nonetheless, the oyster omelettes were not good as expected. The oyster was separated from the omelettes and both were seemed overcooked. Service seemed alright. They got us the wrong dish but managed to have it changed for us pretty quickly.

I’ve been here a couple times and I must say their menu is authentic and taste is decent. A few small things however aren’t consistent such as the white rice doesn’t always come out hot and soft, on my last order the bowl came with stale rice. Curry chicken sometimes seems to be overdone as well and sometimes very dry. The hainanese chicken also sometimes isn’t the tender-est, as I’ve had a few chickens that you could tell were old chicken since the meat was super stringy and tough. I also asked to pack my leftovers once and they just tossed it out! It was an entire portion’s worth of money as well. A little sad about it but just something that happened to me recently. Nevertheless, the one thing that’s always consistent and delicious are their fried noodle dishes. I highly recommend!

Great place in Chinatown to grab a meal! They have a giant menu and everything looks delicious. I had the ginger and scallion duck with rice once a the duck noodle soup another time. Both dishes were good and the portions were quite big. I think there prices run on the lower side compared to similar restaurants which made this place a real gem!

Coming from someone who had actual Penang, Malaysian food, I have to say that the food here is terrible and not authentic. • Popiah: The skin is flavorless tasted like raw flour. The filling is not even cooked, everything inside was raw like American salad. I lifted it up with my chopsticks and it fell apart. This is not how popiah should be!! Please remove this item from the menu. • Roti: Average, would be nicer if roti was crispy. The curry was not enough. Dipped like 5 times and it was dried up. • Prawn mee: The broth tasted like MSG seasoning, hardly any prawn taste. Also looked like frozen prawns were used. Lastly, don’t expect smiling/friendly servers. We paid tips, but I wished we didn’t.

I was really excited to find a Malaysian restaurant. However, outside of a couple of menu items, it was disappointing. The satay, kang kung belachan and teh tarik were pretty good. The other dishes (Hokkien mee, prawn mee, roti canai) were pretty off the mark. The biggest offense was the popiah. The chendol was okay.
