Penlaos (Pak Chong)

"Penlaos started over a decade ago as a street stall. Today, it’s an altogether different operation offering a quality menu in a building with high ceilings surrounded by lush gardens and views of the mountains. They serve Isan food using homemade condiments – the spicy catfish salad is a must. The Laosian style spicy mushroom soup is made with Tiliacora juice, seasonal mushrooms and gourd which adds a natural sweetness. The Thai coconut milk custard rounds off your meal nicely." - Michelin Inspector

The restaurant is located not far from the entrance of Khao Yai National Park and is always packed with people. Overall, the food was excellent — especially the mushroom soup, which had a uniquely rich flavor. I’ve tried similar Thai dishes elsewhere, but this place definitely stands out. Plus, the ingredients were impressively fresh.

Really like their northern style sausage Tried their best seller catfish dish, but didnt expect the meat to be floss style. Overall it was nice and new taste for foreigners

This place feels overrated. The food is made with industrial ingredients from Makro, leaving it with no unique or distinct flavors. Considering the price, location, and decoration, the portions are too small for what they claim to offer. While they advertise using local ingredients, it doesn’t seem to hold true. Honestly, it seems they got their recognition simply because there’s not much competition around. Plus, you’ll be driving a lot just to wear out your Michelin tires faster!

This place 's staffs are very kind. Despite how busy it can get, the food service is still fast, even with large crowds. They also offer an English menu. Som tum is balanced and easy to eat, even if you don't typically enjoy too much spice. The fried dishes are delicious and cooked to perfection.

I had a fantastic dining experience at Penlaos Khaoyai! The service was impressively quick—our food arrived much faster than expected, which was great. The staff were attentive and friendly, making sure we had everything we needed. As for the food, it was absolutely delicious! Every dish was full of authentic flavors, well-seasoned, and cooked to perfection. The ingredients tasted fresh, and the presentation was inviting. Whether you’re a fan of classic Isaan dishes or just looking for a great meal in Khaoyai, this place is definitely worth visiting. Highly recommended! Will definitely return.

If you're looking for delicious Isaan cuisine at an affordable price, this restaurant is a must-try! Dishes start at just over 60 baht, making it a great value for the quality of food. The service is incredibly fast, and your food will arrive in no time. There’s also plenty of parking available, which is super convenient. Don't forget to save some room for dessert—the sweets here are just as tasty as the main dishes

Came during lunchtime at 12 p.m., and the place was packed with people. Parking was not easy to find, but the food was served quickly. • The fried pork rinds with chili, salt, and pepper were flavorful and tasty. • The fried chicken wings were juicy and crispy—definitely a highlight. • The grilled beef was average and can be skipped. • The cucumber somtum was light and refreshing.
