I must say that among the many restaurants in NYC offering a restaurant week (RW) menu, this is probably one of the few where you can get the best value for the price. At only $39 pp you can get a three-course dinner that includes an appetizer, an entree and a desert — available until 02/11.
My party ordered a salmon sashimi and Chicories cobb salad. I’ve had cobb salad choice at other restaurants so expected the same old boring dish, but this one blew me away. The Chicories are flown to NYC from California, each leaf is seasoned and carefully placed over a bed of blue cheese thick dressing to serve as the base. It’s topped with caramelized bacon and instead of parmesan cheese, grated egg yolk. I almost wish I can petrify the dish and exhibit it as a sculpture in my living room. Never did I think a cobb salad could be elevated to this level. The salmon sashimi is as beautiful and tasty as you expect an award winning restaurant would serve. Also looks like someone took the time to make it look like a piece of art. The chef also sent us squash rings, and although I didn’t love them at first, it wasn’t until I dunk them in the apricot and maple chili sauce that the flavor really kicked in.
Moving on to the entree, we had the steak frites (no photos because we just couldn’t resist the urge to dive in). I’m not sure what cut this was, but it came perfectly medium rare as ordered. Very tender and juicy. To shake things up, it’s served over a type of sauce that balances the dish very well and makes it step out of the ordinary. We also had the root vegetable shepherd’s pie and it felt warm and cozy like a hug in a cold winter night. Comfort food indeed.
For desert we enjoyed the coconut sorbet which has become my top 3 ice cream flavor. It tastes like a Vacation at a Caribbean beach! We also had the spiced apple cake with a vanilla ice cream scoop. I’m not a big fan of the seeds (?) it had but it added a nice crunch to the dish that would otherwise be too flat in terms of texture.
I’ve dined and brunched here several times and although some dishes are pricey, the menu is overall thoughtfully made, with intention and effort. Service is friendly and efficient. Hygiene is evident in everything from the bathroom to the water glasses and silverware; and covid protocols are enforced. It’s worth making a stop.
PS: the fried chicken & mashed 🥔 which I had a few times before is another level! For brunch, my fav is the club sandwich.
