This chic hybrid of a café, offering coffee and wine, can be found subtly tucked away from the main drag that is Westheimer.
Right behind The Anvil bar you’ll barely notice this new refuge for coffee goers, wine enthusiasts, and digital nomads.
The vibes are modern and mature.
The interior is a new marriage between urban warehouse and conservatory. The rafters adorn plants that get plenty of natural lighting from the skylight and the 10 foot industrial windows near the western entry.
The space offers plenty of nooks and crannies to choose from. There is a smooth and clean L shaped wooden bar with high chairs. In the center is a marble island, across the way a couple of round tables, and a sofa with accompanying lounge chairs. And that’s just downstairs.
Upstairs there is additional seating. Offering a sofa to kickback and relax, a soft extended bench, and additional two person high table seating. There is a broad outdoor patio as well.
Menu is mainly lite and healthy fare. Offering bites from dawn to dusk.
Service is swell. The team, from the baristas to the barbacks, left the impression that guest are welcomed neighbors.
There is wi-fi.
And a pleasant surprise, a clean restroom, although it is unisex.
If I may share one gripe it would be that like so many other coffee shops and bars, the music was too loud to my likening. But Shazam worthy.
Tried the Bicerin (an Italian chocolate flavored coffee drink). Presentation was nice. Drink was warm, smooth, but a tad under-sweet.
Final remarks.
Penny Quarter is a welcomed addition to the café scene in the Montrose district.
