Pepe's Taco Villa

This place is a little family owned gem! My friend suggested that I try this place about for lunch and I dropped in on a whim. The owner was so kind and friendly! I sat and had the carne asada tacos with rice and beans and WOW! The beans and rice were soooo yummy! The plate was served with three tacos and the marinade on the meat was savory! I tasted a little bit of lime and cumin powder. I brought my extra taco home to my husband and he was very impressed! I highly recommend this place! I can’t wait to come with my husband and try something new and maybe a margarita! Tip: no Apple Cash, please come with cash or card!

Having not been to Pepe's in 20 years, the food and service was phenomenal. Just like I remembered it. My hat off to the owners for keeping it open this long and keeping the quality as good as I remember.

We placed a to go order today! I was super happy with our order. Red Enchilada sauce was delicious. Prices are reasonable. 5 adults we payed $85. Cute little place and we will for sure be back!

Best enchiladas ever. Love the enchiladas suiza and great service! Definitely worth the drive from Scottsdale. I love the bite cheese enchiladas and the cheese is so gooey. Free salsa and chips. Tasty rice. Great prices. Don’t miss coming here when you’re in the Phoenix Scottsdale area.

Amazing I am a picky rice eater! Hands down, no one makes rice like the old Nana's. This rice was so GOOD! It brought back old memories of my childhood. The atmosphere and service were exceptional! The owner came around to check on the tables and greet her customers. Rare, but I loved it! I'll be back and bringing more people to try this hole in the wall on Camelback.

I know for 5 stars we expect a lot. This is a good place (not a 5) the food was good the Margarita had regular salt which is not fun to have (Tip - put chamoy on the rim then cover it with tajin and SEA salt) the service was just good, the outside looks more like a liquor store, once you walk in its actually colorful and nice. Yes, I will be back.

Hands down the BEST MOLE in Phoenix and great margaritas. I love the owner Lucy, she's been running this business for over 20 years! Chips are always warm with a fantastic crunch. I drive out here for the #14 and it's always amazing!!!!

We were headed back from shopping and since we were on Camelback Road we decided to stop in at Pepe's. Hadn't been here in quite a while but I have to admit I am never disappointed with whatever we have ordered. This time I had yearning for enchiladas. We both ordered the chicken enchiladas and when they were served to us the meal was piping hot. They were absolutely delicious and I almost cleaned out the plate. Maybe I was just hungry but my taste buds were feeling it. Good place to stop in when you are thinking of good old Mexican food. Their service is always good and fast.

**This account only reviews bathrooms** Pepe's Taco Villa is complete with a totally adequate bathroom. I'm going to cut straight to the chase on this one. The bathroom is fine. A little dirty but the loo and the sink are fine. The door was a weird choice, looks like it goes to a garage and is covered in evidence that us men don't wash our hands enough. What puts this over other ordinary adequate restrooms is its silent protector. A watchful knight that stands guard while you are at your most vulnerable. He quietly assures you and helps you realize that you are at least slightly safer from any potential attack by your enemies. If someone wanted to kill you in this moment, there should at least be a split second of confusion, buying you time for at least one more breath on our great big blue marble. Thank you Pepe's. I appreciate your concern for patron safety.

The horchata was fresh and creamy! The carnitas weren't as flavorful as we expected but the tamales were delicious. The carne asada was the star of the show!

We came here for an early Mother's Day dinner. I thought it was closed at first but I must say it is NOT closed and it was SOOO good. We had excellent service, delicious food, and amazing margaritas! The family atmosphere and inviting experience was great. Green enchiladas were bomb!

Great little spot for affordable Tex-Mex // Mexican food! The carne asada chimichanga was pretty good & my partner got the carnitas in spicy salsa verde (which he loved). Their $5 house margaritas are spot on - 10/10. Not located in the best part of PHX, but this place is a hidden gem for sure. Service was relaxed & friendly. Such a cute place! I'd definitely return next time I'm in town. Love!

The best hidden gem in Phoenix Arizona for Mexican food! Great service with friendly and attentive workers (gave the best suggestions), fresh and delicious food, and fun atmosphere. The owner does a great job checking up on everyone! Will definitely be going back. Notes: The bathroom was clean which means the kitchen is definitely clean!!

First time here! Stopped by for lunch, and was pleasantly surprised to find that they have lunch specials too! This place is easy to drive by, so be sure you're using your navigation app to tell you when you've arrived. The food is amazing. Service was quick and friendly. This place is so nice and clean. Plenty of large tables for large families, and smaller tables and booths as well. Full bar with daily drink specials make you feel like you are somewhere beachside! You should definitely give it a try. You won't be disappointed.

Hidden GEM !!! Food 5/5 service 5/5 ambience 5/5 My mom flew in and she wanted to go to a Mexican restaurant with cocktails near my house. I found this place on google map and looked it up on yelp it had good reviews so we stopped in and tried it! As soon as we walked in we were greeted we were served beverages and we ordered the patron margarita!! Very good !! so we end up getting a few each! The food was quick and hot and fresh and really good, my moms steak was very flavorful!!! Such a cute and good place to just stop in and have a good meal restaurant/bar right next to our house I'm glad I found this place I can't wait to bring my husband here! We only seen a couple Hispanic woman serving and cleaning and they was all beyond friendly and sweet it made it very welcoming for us!

Found this spot off Yelp! Driving by I always thought it was an antique shop. I was pleasantly surprised. Upon entering we were greeted by a nice woman who said we could sit anywhere. We sat towards the back. We ordered our drinks and food and everything came out promptly. The fajitas were good. I'm doing keto so beware of the green chili, it has flour added to it for thickening. It was still delicious but not like any other green chili I've gotten at other places. Overall, for the price, service, and taste...I'll be back!

I've lived in the neighborhood behind Pepe's for years and finally made it in. Very chill vibe, friendly staff and delicious food. My only regret is not going sooner. Will definitely be making a trip to Pepe's very regularly moving forward.

Wow! Didn't even get a picture bc I was just so excited to try this place. Great chips, salsa and service. Loved my enchiladas suizas. Super flavorful. Just the salsa verde alone is amazing but the shredded beef is so tender. Great place. Really enjoyed it.

First off this spot has the cutest decor and beautiful iron works surrounding the building. It's a treat to check out the art all around. We ordered pickup for Cinco De Mayo, after finding this gem on Yelp (of course) I was greeted and helped immediately after walking in the door. It smelled great inside, many tables full. I had a feeling I was going to love the food. My gut feeling was correct! I ordered the 2 chicken enchiladas with green sauce, paired with rice and beans and my boyfriend got a chicken chimichanga. Both dishes are absolutely delicious! The flavor is "bangin" as my boyfriend says and both are packed full of juicy shredded chicken. I'm usually hit a big fan of beans but I have to say Pepe's beans are the tastiest I've had. They do have a full bar inside and lots of seating. I look forward to going in and dining next time, with a margarita in hand.

Pepe's Taco Villa is the perfect hole in the wall restaurant. The food was amazing and perfectly priced! We were in town for GCU student drop off and enjoyed the proximity to the campus. The service was even better than the food. We had a lovely waitress that not only give us a bit of intel about Arizona, but extended a kind hand. Will definitely be visiting this place every time we visit AZ!!

First time customer,(wife used to hit them up years ago).. Not to hard to find (funny I have driven by here for years) Very kind and wad able to ask Luz or Fernando multiple questions always answered with a smile. Luz had ne sit at a table and told me to "Hang tight they are getting busy"... Temptress was nice inside. I was right beside the kitchen...Everything Smelled Amazing Definable had a "Cheers" vibe when an employee wked in and was greeted and a customer greeted Tony as well. Like this place so far..Wife and sone waited in the car playing Mahjongg on Her Phone Only took 10 minutes to get here and really looking forward to getting to eat my Carne Asada Burrito, some ordered Vhicken zburrito with Pico and rice. Wife ordered Beef Crispy Tacos with a side of Beans and chips and salsa... So 9 minutes drive home And everything was there but My Carne Asade Burrito.. Wow

House Margarita was amazing! None of that sour mix that most places use. Love the decor, service, drinks and food. My husband had a chicken chimichanga and he said it was the best he has ever had.

Just arrived from Florida Had a taste for Mexican food Open the map while riding on I-17 towards Sedona and my finger chose this place on google maps. Didn't argue with my mind. Merged onto the ramp and landed in this amazing piece of heaven! The mole enchilada is to die for! The ambience is full of colors, paintings and the music gives the final touch! This spot is a hidden gem within central Phoenix! All their food is fresh and hot! The tacos are amazing, cooked to perfection! Had to try the Chile Colorado and mmm mmmm mmm, ya gotta have it with their hot tortilla! Please check this place out. They sure do pack their chimichangas too! The wait staff are super friendly as well and music is on point :) I am coming back for sure! Happy camper here ^_^

OMGoodness! Legit-legit!! Here is what I loved so you can see it if it's your style: Awesome home cooked tortilla chips, a bit thicker than the cheaply thin chips that most offer---and I love that. The two salsas are so full of flavor and you can tell they are fresh and brought to the table cooled in a squirt container so you can squeeze out the perfect amount per chip. We had 1) the cheese enchilada, a chili relleno. 2) The soft rolled tacos but I asked for them Crispy so the great server offered to make them flauta style --So the yeses come from Pepe's. Love when someone tries to make it work and want to make the customer happy. :) It came with fresh guacamole and sour cream and a side of the best refried beans with cheese. 3)Then my son had the kids bean and cheese burrito. He was so enthralled with my rolled tacos that he couldn't even eat his bean burrito. So guess what we shared for dinner. Yum!! Tasted like the tortilla was home made?? Pepe's let me know? Awesome. Lastly, there are great drink specials too. So come thirsty. But really, it is good to know what seems to be a family run business for the last 40yrs makes excellent food with flavor. Don't share this review with anyone (shhh!) or we'll all be waiting in line for the BEST Mexican food I have had in Phoenix...to date! Better than the Tee Pee (husband loves) better than Valle Luna (my now, previous next best) cheers and hands down to Pepe's. We WILL be back!!

Don't know what's going on, but we've come several times on Sunday mornings, during hours posted as being open both on the website and Yelp, to find the place is closed. Yesterday around 10:30, there was us and three other cars of customers in your parking lot wondering what was going on. The outgoing message says open on Sundays and that if the phone isn't answered it's because you're with customers, but then the woman recording the message abruptly halts and it sounds like an argument. So please change your hours on the web, because it looks like you aren't open on Sundays anymore.

Who knew this place was here? Oh, I guess a lot of people...ha! This cute Mexican restaurant offers tasty, cheesy plates of Mexican comfort food for decent prices. Their cheese crisp was legit.... If you're crazing something tasty, this is a great choice.

Small neighborhood diner, family run. Original owner "Mom" is still seen in the place. Daughter runs it now but consistent as ever. Been around for 40 some years. I enjoy that the staff is always the same with a great and pleasant family atmosphere. Feels like the neighborhood "CHEERS" . Now the food is truly an experience, their Mole enchiladas are fabulous but I really like repeating the Swiss Beef Enchiladas smothered in a creamy/cheesy green sauce!! They're menu is very extensive yet never a disappointment as every plate is made to order! Truly an old fashioned way of cooking. Not like many where one sauce covers three or four plates nope each has its unique recipe and flavors. If there is something you don't favor like tomatoes or onion or want them just tell the your waiter and they'll prepare it to your liking. They even cater to vegan clientele. Margaritas are a great addition to your meal! Everything from drinks to meals are very generously served you won't go hungry here. I dunno how many time they've gotten the "best of" for their Green Chile with Beef but I've never had better! This is actually a very popular joint just that it's in a very unassuming location. Service is always friendly and attentive. Oh one last thing their Taco Dorados are so damn good! I go quite often as I live nearby. Never feel like I'm dining alone here. Try it you'll love and become a regular like me.

Delicious family owned Mexican restaurant. It did not disappoint. Exactly what we were looking for, plus the owner was so nice!

Late lunch on Cinco de Mayo at Pepe's Taco Villa. Special ordered Mexican Pizza with carnitas, instead of ground beef. Was a meal in itself. The pizza was tasty with tomato, yellow and white cheese, jalapeno. Good for two slices...the rest boxed it to go. If watching cholesterol...may want to skip this one! Also had the barbacoa beef burro with onion, celantro and jalapeno. The beef was exceptional, very tender, juicy and perfectly seasoned. Almost creamy with the tortilla...happy on the taste buds. This one is #35 of the menu. Have been here twice. Previously had chicken enchiladas with a mole sauce (chocolate, chili, and many other ingredients). Authentic food, great service, reasonable prices, unique decor. They also have $1 Taco Tuesday! Family owned business...started in 1981. Got this one bookmarked as a favorite.

I've totally had better! The mole itself is pretty good but the chicken was super dry. My daughter ordered steak picado and it had a weird taste not to mention it was too spicy for her to eat. The green enchiladas are super gross!! They make it with shredded beef and again their marinade was disgusting. Not to be rude but this place was packed with old white people. It's very Tex mex style and the waitresses cater to them. Our waitress came up to us once after our food was delivered and asked if everything was ok. Sadly, she doesn't know I'm an excellent tipper. So her tip for tonight is to learn to be a better waitress cause she suuuuucked!!! Will definitely never ever eeeeeever return!

Definitely won't be disappointed in this place! Great food, great service and especially great owners! I tried one of their tacos which I wasn't a fan of but the owner assured me that I looked into the wrong taco which I did! I read the menu wrong and she gave me her recommendation and a card she signed to buy my next taco plate! I can't wait to come back and try it. My partner got the carne burrito with verde sauce.... to die for! We will definitely be coming back. Thank you Liz!

Service was great. Cheerful and attentive. Prices were extremely reasonable for the lunch specials. Hubby got the chimichanga and it even came with rice and beans! I got the small beef taco salad which was actually not small at all. Everything was hot, and fresh tasting. Taco sauce had decent flavor. Didn't care for the Montelobo's mezcal artesanal tequila which they were touting on the table placard. It tasted and smelled like mothballs. Not the fault of anyone though. The pour was a generous shot, the flavor is out of their control. Good job, we will be back!

This is a pretty neat restaurant! Parking is around the back and there seemed to be plenty of it. I like how the exterior seems to transport you out of Phoenix in a way. Inside, it seemed that the guy working at the restaurant were very familiar with the customers inside. There must be lots of regulars here! We wanted number 21 on the menu but were told that they were sold out, even at 10:00 in the morning on a Saturday. Apparently those are very delicious and they tend to sell out fast. We were told that the best way to get them is to come early at opening. The older lady working there was so cute! The man who took our order was calling her grandma. Whether they are related or not, I thought it was endearing. Would definitely eat here again

Pepe's is the best taco place in Phoenix! The service is great and they treat you like family there. My friends and I have been going there every other week for almost 2 years now. There is no other place we would rather gather. The food is so good and the people there are great both the employees and the guests that regular there. This place is a must try in Phoenix.

No one took our order until we asked. They brought my husbands food out first and did not bring mine for a good long while. He ordered a complex item, I ordered simple carne asada tacos. Makes no sense. They messed up both of our drink orders, then seemed to be rushing us out after we paid the check when they saw me calculating the receipt out. I swear they had time for every other table but our party of 2. Quite rude.

I came for the first time about a week ago for breakfast on a Saturday with a few friends that wanted me to taste the goodness and of course they would close because of electrical issues. I was beyond bummed but nothing I could do. So I decided to come back and try it when they didn't have electrical issues and let me just say it was worth the wait!! This will now be my favorite Mexican restaurant in the valley and bonus it's close to home! Margaritas are on point and good it's au-then-tic!! A few pics. Oh and chips and salsa so good! After 20 years we still consider Pepe's a favorite. Cheese enchilada, flautas and tacos are always a safe choice. Hot sauce is a bit too spicy for me but service is very welcoming and friendly. A little hole in the walk that has expanded but still keeps it's cozy charm.

Food was all right, or in other words a ok... had a chiller Relleno and three different types of tacos. I will say I did appreciate that it was not grease dripping off of my food like many other Mexican restaurants just wish there was more flavor. They do have a full bar, and We had great service. Place looked to be clean.

Not many restaurants can nail mole, and Pepe's is one of those restaurants. That's all you need to know, really. Pro tip: order a side quesadilla with jalapeño
