Best DFW Restaurants According to Reggae Jerk Hut’s Marsha Telfer | Eater Dallas

"A Haitian-focused restaurant and market that also sells Haitian groceries and treats, serving an authentic menu important to the local Haitian community. The legume is highlighted as a standout dish — a slow-cooked blend of vegetables and meat (cabbage, eggplant, carrots with beef chunks or oxtails) served over rice — and the business maintains community ties and mutual support with other local Haitian entrepreneurs." - Courtney E. Smith

I’ve ordered from this restaurant several times, and unfortunately, the food has consistently tasted as if it’s been sitting out for too long or possibly reheated leftovers. Each time, the moment I take the first bite, it lacks freshness and flavor. I make Haitian food myself and have eaten at plenty of Haitian restaurants, and I’ve never had to experience this until now. The lady who owns the place is rude and doesn’t compromise to give a refund for the food. Very disappointing, especially given how much potential the place could have with fresher preparation. In response to the comment by the owner, i am not the same person as discussed in your comment. I am a different customer. I requested the return the same day and hour of my food being purchased by your restaurant. This goes to show that there have been multiple complaints by multiple people.

As a Bahamian, I must say that my expectations were high! Fried Griot: 10/10 Banan: 8.5/10 (could of been more crispy) Pikliz: 9/10 (could be a little spicier) Macaroni: 5/10 (back home we make ours different, I was expecting more flavor) Overall I can say the food satisfied my craving of Haitian food for the last 4 years!!! 👏🏼🎉

Get here!!!!!!! The food was amazing and fresh My only critique would be add a little seasoning to the Mac & Cheese and the oxtail should be more tender, but overall amazing and I will be back !!!!

If I could give this restaurant zero stars, it would be well deserved. The customer service here is terrible. The owner of the restaurant consistently fails to provide a clear answer when asked about specific food availability. The restaurant owner is more concerned with taking advantage of customers' money rather than providing fresh, authentic Haitian food and giving an exceptional customer service experience. I have eaten at other Haitian restaurants and have never experienced a lack of business like this one. Several times, my husband has tried to call for a pre-order on certain foods, and instead of saying that they can't provide, the owner has either lied, hung up the phone in mid-conversation, or didn't pick up the call. They will never get our business again, which I know they don't care about losing one less customer. Beware, for you have been warned that they are serving leftover food and saying it's fresh.

Compliments to the chef, the food was amazing, and I will gladly return again! I would give it 5-stars but have some constructive feedback for the owner. 1. The THC option on the menu is inappropriate for a family style restaurant. Consider printing a special or "secret menu" that offers those options. While this may be a trendy option for younger generations, it raises concerns about food safety and limits the ability to suggest the restaurant to a larger network of friends, colleagues and family members who may misinterpret this as a staple in Haitian culture. 2. The wait time was reasonable, but the disorganized line could use some attention. Try encouraging guests to sit, while they wait for their meals during peak hours. Maybe adding a ticket number system, to call people up when their orders are ready. 3. The pricing on the fritay was expensive for a fast causal option. Try offering 2 portion sizes at different prices, so there is flexibility in cost. Thank you for this addition to the DFW. Wishing you much success!

The food is decent. The Mac and cheese has no flavor but the oxtails hit and I believe might be the best you’ll get in Texas. The phone number didn’t work when I called so having to order at the store means a 20-30 minute wait. The sauce leaked into the bag and made things pretty messy.

Google
ABSOLUTELY BREATHTAKING FOOD; We tried the Island Burger and the Caribbean Burger and loved it so much I forgot to take my usual pics; I will be returning and uploading a few; Some dishes sell out fast so get there and get it while you can. It's a new place so bear with them, however the love and care put into the food will definitely leave an impression.... The owners were warm and inviting; always smiling.

Google
Zero stars... called said heading over (30min drive) to get certain food item. Owner said come and once I arrived, she said they were all out.. 😡😡😡only explanation was, "had large order to fulfill" I was eventually given burnt microwaved leftovers. You can't leave voicemail wen u call if someone don't pick up.... when they pick up, hang up on you constantly... this place rated 5stars because of "close friends" and family... real public think differently. I work in customer services and this isn't that. Food is also sub-par to say the least. Will NEVER BE BACK!!!! Such a shame because i try to support Haitian restaurants especially coming to an area were they don't have lots of Haitian restaurants. I rather spend my money elsewhere

Yelp
INCREDIBLE food and top notch service. I saw a TikTok this week of Hatian food and was super intrigued so I looked up where I could buy it and this was the only place in DFW that sells it. Holy cow, my expectations were exceeded. I wanted to try the Hatian meatballs and black rice, both of which they had and they were AMAZING. I ordered the Griot as well bc the lady recommended it and it was so good. She also threw in some yucca and rice and beans on the side for free for us to try since it was our first time. It took about 20min for the food to come out, I ordered the fresh soursop juice and due to the delay they gave us another one on the house. (It was incredible) they also have a small shop inside and I was able to buy a few medications you don't normally see OTC anywhere else. My buddy wanted to buy an air freshener and they actually gave it to him for free. We drove 50min to try this place and I will definitely be making the drive again. Totally recommend this place if you wanna try Hatian food, it was top notch.

Yelp
This was a great Birthday Gift to my self. I love and miss my country and this place brings home to Texas. This is the best spot in Texas to eat some réal Haitian food. Actually this is the only restaurant in Texas that's serves home made Haitian food. The service was fabulosa. It's a family restaurante and the music is wonderfull. It's a family friendly environment. My kids really enjoyed playing on the Little stage. I also enjoyed that fact they have a market store that you can buy food and other things. I purchased real Haitian haïr oil from there and I'm excited to try it. The food was very flavorful. Best ending to my 28th Birthday. Thank you for the great atmosphère and positive vibe. Merci beaucoup it was a vibe.

Yelp
Usually when you go to spots on Abram , or Division and they're usually older staples that are worn down or half done and kind of drab.. THIS IS NOT THE CASE HERE!! Very clean and the Chef was delighted to walk me through the menu. She was certainly passionate about her food because it was absolutely delicious!! The red beans and rice was flavorful and the beans weren't overcooked and hard, rice was cooked perfectly and you could tell it wasn't reheated. The plantain was very well prepared and the Haitian Mac & Cheese (actually rigatoni I think but who cares) was creamy and seasoned. The fried chicken was definitely the star of this dish. Seasoned and naked fried it was perfectly done and everything was made promptly. Honestly I'd go back and wait 45 minutes for this food. Check this place out

Yelp
I have been searching for Haitian food in the DFW area for years!!! Finally found this restaurant... and they did not disappoint!!! Food is absolutely delicious and is authentic Haitian food. You must try the Griot (fried pork) with Djon Djon Rice (black mushroom rice), white rice with sos pwa (a bean sauce to top rice), and Legume (a veggie stew with meat). And don't forget to get extra Pikliz (a spicy "coleslaw like" condiment). Service is great. And ambiance is great with Haitian music and videos playing.

Yelp
I've been to this Haitian restaurant twice now. My first visit was absolutely stellar--delicious food, bold flavors, and great service. I was genuinely excited to come back. Unfortunately, the second visit was a major letdown. They were out of several main dishes, including the goat (again), the meatballs (boullet), and other items we were looking forward to. We settled for jerk chicken, which was okay, but not memorable. It was pretty dry. The Haitian meat patty was a 0/10--dry, burnt at the bottom, and barely had any meat inside. It felt like eating a plain Hawaiian roll. The mac & cheese was bland, lacked seasoning, and the cheese had no flavor, literally zero. We specifically ordered djon djon rice with our meals but were given regular rice and beans instead. It took us over an hour to get there, and sadly, it just wasn't worth it. Don't think we'll be back.

Yelp
Great Hatian food and worth the visit! Had the Griot and rice with beans. As well as the chicken.

Yelp
I was craving some Haitian food as I found out about this place on TikTok a few months ago. Being from NYC and moving to Dallas I knew it'd be hard to find Haitian food here but once I heard about it I was happy and when I went there, I can honestly say it did not disappoint. I had the legume with diri avek djon djon (mushroom rice or what Americans call Black Rice), the legume was on point so good. It honestly taste like authentic Haitian food like my mom and aunties would cook. My wife had the pork and it was so good and succulent. I don't usually eat pork but I had to for this. Really good food, service was also good. Portion were huge, so huge my wife save half of her food for dinner later

Yelp
The food is good and plentiful- super authentic. I felt like I was in Haiti! Great atmosphere and friendly service.

Yelp
Amazing food and staff are super nice and helpful, especially if you're new to trying Haitian food. The fried whole fish was amazing and the sides are delicious.

Yelp
To not be Haitian I was amazed that they had all the options available. I picked up food from here for a family who is Haitian. They thoroughly enjoyed the food that they were able to try. The service provided was amazing. I was educated to the beverage options. The was enough room for a large group. It was very clean. Unfortunately, there was a mix up with so this is all we were able to try but it was Good: ⁃ 4 drinks of Malta (non alcoholic) / Couronne Fruit Champagne Tropical Flavor ⁃ Banan Peze ⁃ Mushroom (Djon Djon) Rice / PIKLIZ Now if you want Patty you will need to come early because they are typically sold out by 2pm.

Yelp
10/10 bring the whole family plenty of food to share... one of the most authentic experiences of Haitian food Iv tried in Texas! Service was impeccable and everything was fresh and made to order, so there will be a little wait time but so worth it

Yelp
I absolutely love La Perle des Antilles!!! I am leaving this review after my second time dining here and I have bad nothing to say! The food is superb and speaks for itself; everything is flavorful and made with love. Coming across Haitian food in the DFW was once difficult, but now, I am so happily grateful for La Perle. The griot, banan peze and diri djondjon (fried pork plantain and mushroom rice) are to die for, especially with their fresh pressed soursop juice!! They have a wide variety of refreshments as well, and if you're stuck on what to order, be sure to ask the ever friendly Ms Molly for recommendations. Her and everyone here is so kind and attentive. Please don't hesitate to come dine here as it is important to support small businesses :)

Yelp
I'm a Dominican who never tried Haitian food before, so I am so grateful I had the amazing pleasure of trying Haitian food from Perle Des Antilles! The flavor is authentic and vibrant. My favorite part of the food is how health conscious the chef is!! Other customers mentioned the same to her The service was great, very friendly and patient staff. The ambiance is also great with many Latin American countries and Caribbean islands represented in the music and merchandise. Though the owner did mention that they're currently in the process of pushing out inventory from the previous owner, so I expect there will be even more variety soon!

Yelp
I promise you when you go to heaven this food will be there. The service was phenomenal and the vibes were immaculate. I would want to eat this everyday for the rest of my life. I had the oxtail, Mac n cheese, and the sweet plantains. To die for!!!

LaShawna M.

Yelp
Amazing food and customer service! The owner and her daughters I believe were very kind and well mannered young ladies, who gave and displayed truly exceptionally customer service. A great hidden gem in Arlington, TX and more people should know about it. The entrees come with a main and two sides. I recommend to try everything if you can. If you want true Haitian and authentic comfort food, this is the place to go. They are not just a Haitian restaurant, but also a Caribbean market that sells Caribbean delicacies from snacks to drinks and beers. 20/10 recommend. I will definitely be coming back and bringing friends.

Andre W.

Yelp
Awesome very delicious food. It's about time Dfw area has a TRUE and authentic Haitian restaurant. I love it!

Yelp
Food was okay; too pricy for small portions. Service was by 2 pre teens, not really sure that that's legal. Ambience needed improvement-audio was sketchy, and place needed artwork or paint.
