The 22 Best Restaurants In Cape Town 2024

"On the top floor of an otherwise average-looking building is the Persian Peacock, a carefully guarded secret among locals. The stars of the menu are undoubtedly the lamb tah-chin (an upside-down lamb and rice casserole) and lamb kebabs that are so juicy you’ll run out of napkins before you do food. This spot is family-run and feels like scoring an invite to your friend’s house whose parents are way better cooks than yours." - bri cave

We came to Cape Town from Vancouver, Canada, for a two-week holiday and to celebrate our 21st wedding anniversary. During our stay, we discovered an Iranian restaurant called Persian Peacock — and what a gem it turned out to be! We went there one evening for dinner, and everything — the atmosphere, the staff, and the food — was absolutely wonderful. It was so good that we decided to return again for our anniversary dinner. Besides the delicious and authentic taste of Persian cuisine, what truly stood out was the warmth of the people working there. They treat you as if they’ve known you for years — friendly, welcoming, and genuinely kind. The whole place feels like being part of a big, loving family. I’m so proud that we visited this restaurant and met such amazing staff. The flavors of their food, prepared with care and served at very reasonable prices, brought back sweet memories of my childhood and my mother’s home-cooked meals. I highly recommend Persian Peacock to anyone visiting Cape Town — you won’t regret it! A huge thank-you to all the staff for making our anniversary night truly unforgettable. ❤️

Absolutely fantastic experience at Persian Peacock! The food was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented, authentic Persian dishes at their best. Portions were generous, and every bite was delicious. The chicken Tahchin was out of this world—I would go back just to eat this dish again! The atmosphere was warm and elegant, and the staff were extremely welcoming and attentive. Highly recommend if you’re looking for outstanding Persian cuisine in Cape Town!

I visited this place on a Sunday without a reservation and was lucky to get a seat, though the steep stairs and limited seating make booking ahead essential. I ordered the mixed salad, fresh but very small, Safaron rice, and the large mixed grill, which had authentic Persian flavor but was undercooked and had to be returned multiple times. The owner was kind and offered a 10% discount for the inconvenience. Tea tasted good. I recommend they serve Iranian nan with grills free of charge, as it’s a key part of the experience. Overall: Great flavors and service, but some room for improvement in portioning and cooking consistency.

A Beautiful Culinary Experience with Heart Persian Peacock is a true gem in Cape Town. The food is absolutely beautiful—rich in flavour, beautifully presented, and clearly made with love. As a vegan, I was so happy to find plenty of options that were both satisfying and delicious. It’s not always easy to find authentic cuisine that caters thoughtfully to plant-based diets, but Persian Peacock delivers effortlessly. The location is central and easy to get to, though the surrounding area could definitely benefit from some attention—there’s a noticeable presence of homelessness, which can be confronting. That said, once you're inside Persian Peacock, it’s like stepping into a warm, welcoming oasis. The staff are kind, the vibe is lovely, and the experience feels special from start to finish. I’ll absolutely be back. Highly recommended for anyone looking for soulful, flavourful food and a peaceful escape in the heart of the city.

One of my absolutely favorite places in CT. Such a hidden gem. Awesome interiors, friendly staff and most importantly amazing food! The co-owner was very nice and helped us choose the right dishes for our group. If you love meat, you'll love this place! The portions are hearty and so tasty. The flavours and the combinations of different ingredients were perfect. Don't skip dessert, I absolutely loved the saffron ice cream too. Loved the decor as well.

At first, I was quite skeptical when our salad and hummus arrived, as they were served in very small plates—surprisingly tiny portions. Because of that, we decided to order main courses, expecting them to be similar in size. However, the main dishes turned out to be very large, and we couldn’t finish even half of the food, which unfortunately led to a lot of waste. On the positive side, the main meal was exceptionally delicious and well-prepared. We chose to sit outside, but the area was quite noisy, and the patio cover gave the impression of a poorly made tent—not very comfortable or visually appealing. I would recommend sitting indoors instead. It would greatly improve the atmosphere if the outdoor area were rebuilt with proper aluminum and glass structures. This is a family-owned restaurant, and the staff were genuinely kind and welcoming. Thank you for the warm service and the excellent food.
