The 18 Best Restaurants in Louisville, Kentucky | Eater

"Shelby Park is home to quite a few of Louisville’s most interesting restaurants: Shahar, one of the last-standing vegan eateries; Nook and Nowhere, the city’s only bookstore bar and cafe; and Perso. At the last, owner Emil David draws inspiration from the flavors he grew up with in Pampanga, the culinary capital of the Philippines, and blends them with Roman-style favorites. Dishes include everything from duck confit to rabbit puttanesca, and the chef’s table is a true highlight. Know before you go: A speakeasy-style garden bar, dubbed Segretto, is open from March through October and accessible only through the restaurant." - Lennie Omalza

My first time here and definitely not my last. The restaurant itself is beautiful and the open kitchen concept is always cool to see. Service was great and our food was even better. The 3 plate tasting menu is such a steal! Three courses for $29 and many yummy options to choose from. My cocktail was the most insanely well crafted and unique drink I've ever had. Shoutout to the bartender! Thank you for having us :)

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Perso in Louisville, and I must say, it was a delightful experience. Despite making a last-minute reservation, Madison at the restaurant was incredibly accommodating and managed to fit me in, even though they were quite busy. The atmosphere was bustling, and it seemed like my server had more tables than usual, but they handled it with grace. The food was solid, especially considering the price. I opted for the Prix Fixe menu at $29, which was outstanding value. The Ribollita was hearty and flavorful, the Cod was perfectly cooked, and the Chef's choice dessert, a fig strudel, was a sweet and satisfying end to the meal. Although Madison wasn't my server, she made a point to check in on how my meal was and how my night was going. Her attentiveness and friendly demeanor were much appreciated, and I made sure to thank her for arranging the reservation. Overall, Perso offers great food at a reasonable price, and the staff's dedication to customer service truly stands out. I highly recommend giving it a try!

OMG! This is one of my new favorite places in Louisville. The food is so fresh and refreshing. The atmosphere is electric and the staff outstanding and exceptional. After looking at the menu and all the options that looked incredible the decision was made to select the Chef's Family Style selection. The Chef created four appetizers, two entrees and a dessert. The apps were perfect. The Miso Mushroom is divine and decidant and is perfect with the Roman style flat bread. The house made ricotta is so light. The jam blew me away with its flavor burst and natural sweetness that was complimented with the flatbread and the Roman style pork chop with crackled skin and homemade mustard an outstandingly rich experience. The two main course options were rabbit and cod with the rabbit in an earthly puree and the cod in a clam sauce. Both were perfectly sized so that you did not leave overly stuffed and uncomfortable. The dessert was impressive and their take on Tiramisu paired perfectly with a dry red wine. I can't wait to return and see what the Chef comes up with next for the Summer as the menu rotates on the seasons but I am sure it will be nothing short of amazing, scrumptious and artfully creative. If only they had a second Chef's selection option for just appetizers to accompany cocktails for an evening of light bites, creative cocktails and delightful conversations. They tell you that Perso is Italian for lost and I cannot wait to get 'perso' again in their intimate and intriguing culinary creations. Hats off to the Chef and his dedicated, thoughtful and pleasing staff!

Recently I went on a culinary adventure at Perso in Louisville, a hidden gem nestled at 741 E Oak St. in Louisville, Kentucky. I went there with the best group of neighbors you could ever ask for. We were celebrating two birthdays and had the incredible opportunity to dine in a private room with a dedicated chef. From the moment we stepped into the intimate dining space, we were transported into a culinary wonderland. Our chef, a true artist in the kitchen, curated a series of courses that delighted our taste buds and kept us engaged for over three hours. Each dish was a masterpiece, featuring a variety of infused flavors, including duck, pork, chicken, liver, and an array of pickled delicacies. I must admit, I overindulged. The temptation to try everything was simply too great! From the delicate balance of flavors in the appetizers to the rich and satisfying entrees, every bite was a memorable experience. And let's not forget the delightful conversations and laughter shared with my friends. It was a truly special evening. If you're seeking a unique and unforgettable dining experience in Louisville, Perso is a must-visit. The personalized attention, exceptional cuisine, and intimate atmosphere make it a truly extraordinary place to celebrate special occasions or simply savor a memorable meal.

Google
We celebrated our wedding anniversary at Perso and were thoroughly impressed by the food, ambiance, and creativity, all complemented by Jack's excellent service. Tucked away in a charming neighborhood on Oak Street, Perso offers a welcoming and intimate atmosphere. Jack was attentive and made sure we were well taken care of throughout the evening. We started with the beef tartare, which was perfectly balanced in acidity and flavor. For our entrées, I chose the Berkshire pork chop while my husband enjoyed the Royal Red shrimp. Both dishes were light yet packed with rich flavors. We finished our meal with the upside-down tiramisu. While it was delicious, it resembled a brownie more than a traditional tiramisu, missing some of the signature elements of the classic dessert. Overall, we had a wonderful dining experience at Perso and would highly recommend it.

Google
Pretty nice little fancy Italian dinner spot. My wife and I went to Italy earlier this year and it reminded us of Italy. We got the prix fixe, a 3 course meal and it was a very good bargain with very good food. The servers are also very attentive. We would definitely return.

My husband and I checked out Perso for an early birthday dinner for me. The building is gorgeous, the service was fantastic, and the food/drinks were phenomenal! We will definitely be back in the future.

Google
My partner and I really enjoyed this restaurant! I tried the Smoked Lavender Manhattan…the aroma of it was just lovely! All of our food was delicious and perfectly balanced. Our favorite was the house made Ricotta topped with sun-dried tomatoes, pine nut, pickled celery, and raisins, served with a fresh bread boule. Their pricing is very reasonable for such special, fresh dishes. Our server was friendly and attentive.

Yelp
Everything here is amazing, and I do not use that word lightly!! The food is absolutely phenomenal. I would classify dining here as a culinary adventure. I tried several dishes that I wouldn't normally order and I was blown away by the textures and flavors. (Steak tartare!!!) I'm still dreaming about our meal! The staff is wonderful- so knowledgeable and friendly and they went above and beyond to make our experience perfect. I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
the charcuterie board was about as inspiring as a grocery store deli tray. Nothing terrible, but definitely nothing to write home about. The lamb shank, though, was downright bad--dry, under-seasoned Now, to be fair, I'm from Los Angeles, so my standards might be a little skewed. We're kind of spoiled when it comes to food. But even setting that aside, this just didn't hit the mark. The saving grace? The cucumber salad. Shockingly good. Crisp, flavorful, and perfectly dressed. If I ever came back (not likely), I'd just order three of those and call it a night.

Yelp
I visited Perso on a Thursday night with the party of four. We had a reservation and needed it. The place was packed on weeknights they have a tasting menu for $29. This tasting menu is a great value and we all ordered it. I ordered the cod, which was excellent . The appetizers were similar to pizzas and they were fantastic as well. I don't go to Louisville often, but if I went back, I would definitely try to revisit this restaurant .

Yelp
Perso is about a seven minute walk from our house, but we have only gone there one time for a date. That night was finally in December 2024 to celebrate a late Christmas. After spending a lot of money on traveling, we wanted a nice dinner but at a more budget-friendly cost. We picked a Sunday because that is one of days they have a $30 prix fixe menu with an app, entree, and dessert. Somehow, even though space is limited and it's a popular place, my wife was able to get us a last minute reservation. Even the bar seats are reserved, so we felt very fortunate. We were seated in the back room where you're surrounded by a working kitchen and a lot of hustle and bustle. As the evening went on, the atmosphere became slightly less enjoyable as other groups were seated and gave the servers very little room to maneuver. The cocktail was really enjoyable. We had a glass of red wine for our second drink, which was great for the price point. For food, I picked the Salsiccia Alla Pizzanola, Springer chicken, and ice cream. The pizza app was amazing! I ate it slow because I wanted to enjoy every bite. For my entree, the chicken was cooked perfect, but it was admittedly a more bland flavor than I was expecting. I forget what the ice cream was, but that was also awesome. My wife also enjoyed her meal. Definitely open to trying this again. Despite the packed room, it was a great dinner and I strongly recommend for a date night. Based on some of the food I saw around me, I'm very excited to try more items on the menu. And next time, we will book a space in the front room or at the bar - far in advance.

Yelp
Wow, what an experience! Divine night out. Loved leaving the choices to the chef and enjoying a variety of options. The appetizers were the star of the show. Excellent cocktails and wine, too. A must!

Yelp
It's been almost two months since I dined at Perso, and I'm still thinking about it. First off, my biggest suggestion if you want to dine here: Do the prix fixe menu! Perso offers a prix fixe menu, Sunday through Thursday, for just $29. A portion of all prix fixe sales go to Blessings in a Backpack, which helps feed local children who suffer from food insecurity. Through this menu, you get the pick of a starter, entree and dessert, and if you go with others ordering from this menu, you could order pretty much everything on it. And this menu blew me away! For the starters, we tried the Brussels Sprouts Salad, Apple and Radicchio and Salsiccia alla Pizzaiola. The Brussels Sprouts Salad with its copious cheese and sprouts was the star for me, though all three were wonderful. Not a snoozer among them. For my entree, I got the Barchetta di Pane, which is served in a bread boat (!!!), with pomodoro, fontina, confit garlic and herbs. This comes out on a large platter with a scissors to cut through the bread. More entrees should come with scissors! Think of this like pizza bread amped up to 11. Hands down the best thing I ate. We also tried the desserts. Loved the ice cream! Perso also stands out for cocktails. The ambiance of Perso was cool with a bit of an Italian cafe flair. We ate at an outdoor table to soak up what we figured was one of the final warm nights of the year, but there are indoor tables as well. And after you're done, you can head into the back patio for its Segreto Garden Bar ("segreto" means "secret" in Italian). Another supremely cool spot to take in. It's open March through October. Love that Shelby Park has such cool, delicious spots like Perso. Definitely one of a kind!

Yelp
Yet again another awesome experience at Perso. We came in to celebrate our anniversary and decided on the Chef's table option which is offered during weekdays. The service was incredible and the staff were all so friendly and patient. All of the food was to die for. We were served 4 appetizers, 2 entrees, and a dessert. Definitely do yourself a favor and check out Perso! a very unique dining experience in Louisville!
google avatar

Jane R.

Yelp
Delish!! The pre fix menu is fire. They have a range of options for $29 on the weekdays for apps, entrees, and desserts. I had this Kohlrabi with walnuts, the brisket, and a chocolate gelato. So good and you can't beat the price!

Yelp
After several previous excellent experiences dining at Perso, I knew I had to take my mom here for her birthday meal. The Chef's Tasting experience is the best deal you can get for upscale dining. For $55 each, we got 4 starters, 2 mains, and dessert. We loved the variety of dishes served. Each one was prepared carefully and presented beautifully. Service was incredibly warm and welcoming. I love this place!

Yelp
So, so impressive, I absolutely loved this place. I unfortunately came here alone, sat at the bar. It was restaurant week and my husband and his brothers wanted to go to a basketball game. I dropped them off and had a hell of a meal on my own. I started with the crostino di tonno. I love raw tuna, but cooked tuna skeeves me out. This changed my whole perspective, and was an incredible way to start the meal. Then came the osso bucco. It was so perfect and tender. The sauces that accompanied it were perfect. I capped off the dinner with the chef's choice apple dessert, which was wonderful as well. The ambiance and locale were also stunning! I didn't even feel like I was in Louisville when walking in and around the restaurant. It felt so upscale. I really cannot wait to be back, and take some people next time! Highly recommend.

Yelp
This restaurant was on my friend's list for a while. It used to be Scarlet's bakery which had closed a few years back. The space looks about the same but of course, looks more upscale. We had a reservation, but for a Tuesday night we didn't need one. A few groups here and there, but most tables weren't filled. We started off with some cocktails from the menu and then decided to do the prix fixe since it was a good deal. We both got the tuna crostini as the starter. Delicious and a nice crunch from the flatbread! Not heavy either! For entrees, my friend opted for the pasta while I got the branzino. Deliciously cooked with a nice crispiness! I also enjoyed the taste of the tomato sauce on my friend's pasta. For dessert, we got the fig streusel. It was kinda small which was perfect after already eating an appetizer and an entree. Great presentation! And not too sweet! The service was good. Our server was attentive and brought out our food in a timely way. She made sure to keep our glasses of water filled. It was a fun vibe! They played a lot of throw back music from the 80s through the 2000s so I enjoyed that a lot! Parking is parallel. I probably could've circled around to find a spot but I was in a rush and parked just a block away.

Yelp
Checked this place out last night for a family dinner and it was so good! It was nice to try some dishes that we normally haven't before and I liked that the serving was family style so we could mix and match! For drinks, I got the strawberry shrub which was okay, my sister got the espresso martini which was delicious! For apps, we got the roasted octopus and beet tartare - both were so good and dishes we normally wouldn't eat! For dinner we split the dry aged steak which came with chimichurri sauce (it was fine) and a pomegranate steak sauce that was delicious. We also got the butternut squash velute which my parents enjoyed (too sweet for me) and the roasted pasta dish which was phenomenal!

Yelp
This was a very cute local place. I had driven by several times, but when I saw that there was a limited Pris Fix menu, I knew I had to go! They were out of a couple of entrees/apps, which was disappointing, but what I ordered was still delicious! I didn't get a picture of the Sole, but it was awesome! The candy scone for dessert was AMAZING! The restaurant was pretty busy for a Wednesday, but we made a reservation. Our server was great!

Yelp
Perso was the final stop on my restaurant hop during #louisvillerestaurantweek. I definitely know what I'm doing because this was an awesome choice. I dined alone, so I sat bellied up at the bar. My beverage of choice is wine, but Perso's cocktail menu was too interesting to pass over. I opted for the Lavender Manhattan. Either this bartender is one-of-a-kind or this drink is from another dimension. Or both. When I saw the genie floating up from the glass in a cloud of smoke, I knew this was going to be the beginning of a blissful dining experience. Perso had a special menu for Restaurant Week, and because I was teetering between the Pasta E Fagoli and the Crostino di Tonno for my first course, my bartender helped me decide. The Pasta E Fagoli was cranberry-beany and delicious, and had me wishing I had a spoon to scoop up and savor every bit of the soup that remained after I ate all the campanelle and fagoli. A small warning, though. Although it wasn't super spicy, I struggle with spiciness, which even when mild sometimes sends me into an eye-watering coughing fit. Once I get beyond it with a few sips of water though, I'm able finish it off like a respectable foodie would. For the second course, I went with the Cast Iron Baked Pasta. I doubt you can ever go wrong with baked pasta but I went all the way right with this dish. By the time I was halfway through its incredible cheesaliciousness and beginning to feel full, I had to will myself to put the fork down and allow the rest to be boxed so that I could handle the third course. It wasn't easy. My options included Ice Cream of the Day or Chef's Choice. Well, that was easy. Chef knows best. When I say my mind was blown by the tender, flaky, perfectly-flavoured fig strudel.... With the house-made mascarpone on the side? Just go and try it if you don't believe me. I enjoyed the chill atmosphere at this place as well. The food service and bar service were both attentive and pleasant. Did I already mention the Lavender Manhattan that's mixed using the handmade Tito vodka? Oh, and how that leftover baked pasta hit the next day. Whew! I will be back to see you all soon, Perso.

Yelp
Everything was perfect. From the moment you enter the door the service is friendly and efficient. We came in without a reservation, and sat at the bar while the host got our table ready. We were sat before we even got our drinks. Speaking of, the drinks here are incredible. Bartender is top notch. Our server reccomended the chefs table, which is an amazing spread of food. Honestly, I didnt know what half the stuff was, but the server did a great job explaining it to my wife. 5 stars, will definitely be back.

Yelp
Went on a Monday at 530 with a reservation but didn't need. Street parking. Had an attentive and friendly hostess/server throughout the night. Ordered the 3 course prix fixe ($29) and it included a starter (pick 1 of 4 selections), an entree (1/4) and a dessert (chefs choice or ice cream). Everything we had was so tasty. Highly recommend the panzanella starter and the barchetta di pane (bread boat but similar to a pizza). The bread/crust was so good and crispy.
google avatar

Yelp
My husband and I visited Perso for the first time last night. We opted for the three course chef's meal. When the appetizers arrived we were absolutely blown away by the variety and taste! You know those moments when you take a bite and can't believe how extremely good something tastes? Perso absolutely delivered that experience for us! For the main course we received cod as well as baked rigatoni which were both delicious. The cod was cooked to perfection, so flavorful and flakey! The atmosphere was amazing and I did feel transported to Europe. I will recommend Person to literally everyone I know. Thank you for such an amazing dining experience. My mind is still blown with how good it was!

Yelp
I came to Perso for a girls night out. We made reservations and I'm glad we did, or we would not have been able to eat here. Perso is a small intimate restaurant with delicious food. The Italian margarita I had to start and it was so good I had two. For dinner we did the prix fixe menu. I found 29.99 to be a bit pricey for this, but did come with three courses. I had the roast beef for my main entree and it was cooked to perfection. I had chef's choice for dessert, which was a type of scone. All in all, a little pricey, very delicious and more upscale of a restaurant!

Julia S.

Yelp
Cool atmosphere, great food & service. We'll be back! The complimentary spritz for our anniversary was yummy and very appreciated :)

Yelp
Ambiance - small and quaint Food - 3.5 stars Service 3 stars Made reservations for a weekday at 530 but it wasn't needed because the restaurant was empty except for one other table. Seated right away and server was nice, but it was slow. She was not very attentive and the food took a long time to come out. After the initial appetizer, I waited close to 10 minutes for the entree. Roasted octopus with beef tongue, olive tapenade, butternut squash purée The beef tongue was so tasty and star of the dish. Octopus was soft but lacked flavor. Clams pizza - I love the flavor of clams, especially on a pizza. But this pizza had no clams (that I could visibly see) and no flavor of clams either. Pizza was good as a veggie pizza. Crust was crispy and tons of cheese pull. There were a lot of butternut squash and whole gloves of garlic. It's hard to find restaurants that use uncommon ingredients like beef tongue or octopus, so I would give the restaurant another chance and try a different item.

Yelp
It's rare that we have a date night on a weekday with two young children, but tonight was the exception. When I realized our anniversary was falling on a Wednesday, Perso was the first place that came to mind. Perso's Prix Fixe Menú is available every Sunday through Wednesday and offers a three course meal for $29. It's no secret that I'm a fine dining enthusiast; but who doesn't love a bargain? If you're looking for a nice night out without breaking the bank, this is your spot. Perso sits at the corner of Oak and Shelby in the same location as the former Square Cut Pizza. The giant windows in the front provide an abundance of natural light. The interior has a modern industrial vibe with painted exposed brick, plants, and Edison bulbs hanging on pendants. One wall with wooden slats gives a Scandinavian feel to the main dining area. It's a small-ish intimate space with a beautiful patio. For my first course, I chose Crostino Di Tonno- olive oil poached tuna, stracciatella, pickled celery, and Calabrian chili. I followed my first course with olive oil poached swordfish, corn chowder, and golden zucchini scapece. For dessert, I had the chef's choice: apple strudel with whipped cream cheese. My husband chose heirloom tomato with roasted eggplant, bagna couda, and fine herbs. For his main course, he had pork tenderloin with edamame, beef dashi, and fine herbs. We both opted for the chef's choice for dessert. I tasted each of his courses and they were every bit as delicious as my own. The edamame provided the perfect texture and his tenderloin dashi tasted gravy-esque without being overly heavy. Mostly notable, besides the insane deal for such decadence, was the fresh flavor combinations throughout. Our table had fresh rosemary as a centerpiece. The corn chowder was right up my alley. I could've licked my bowl if I wasn't trying to pretend to have a bit of class. The swordfish was tender, juicy, and not overly fishy. The tuna flatbread was the perfect balance of sweet and spicy. The mint on top of my whipped cream cheese truly set it apart. My lavender Manhattan was earthy and smoky, not just in flavor. It was literally smoking. My husband had an old-fashioned. Neither of us were disappointed. Our server, Amanda, was phenomenal. She offered recommendations. She visited our table to ensure we were satisfied the perfect number of times. Her warm demeanor was professional while also being personable. She was everything we hope for in a server. Perso's Sunday through Wednesday Prix Fixe Menú is hands-down one of the best opportunities for an affordable night out. That being said, once you get a taste of what they have to offer, you'll be sold on splurging any day of the week.

Yelp
Service was great. Drinks, appetizers, and entree all nicely done. Varied flavors, multicultural inspiration, and an intimate atmosphere. Only downside was a high volume of background noise, making conversation and even ordering a shouting match. Recommend especially for couples or four tops.

Yelp
Hidden gem... finally was able to get reservations! Small, quaint, cute little place... Service was excellent, open air kitchen, ambience was neat and the small bar made Excellent cocktails! Went with a table of four and got the chefs table... So. Much. Food. We couldn't even finish everything! And it was only $55 per person. Absolutely cannot be beat. Some of the dishes were quite interesting like goat! Something I would never normally try but it was tasty. Overall had a great experience and would love to take out of town guests here!

Yelp
This was the second time we have been, the first time last fall was amazing. Food was great, service was a bit mid. Tonight was an entirely different experience. I think we had the misfortune of being seated directly after a large party and that may have contributed. We ordered the Prix Fix, appetizers came out slowly, but nothing that bad. We waited over an hour between appetizer and entree and our server only checked on us one time. When the entree finally came, my pork was not even edible, it was gray, dry and suuuuper bland. It tasted just like my mother's and that is not a compliment. Not saying we won't be back, but it was just...BAD this evening.

Yelp
Made a last minute reservation and was glad I did! There is some outdoor seating, but it was a warm and drizzly evening. The space is pretty, though when packed it was hard to hear my husband sitting across the table from me. We started with splitting the ricotta and the mesclun salad. Both were good but that ricotta was the star, our server had recommended it and I loved how light it was. To drink we had rhubarb paper planes. Delicious. We shared the cast iron pasta bake and it was just perfect. Cheesy al denta pasta with the right balance of meaty sauce. Perfect amount of food to fill up two people. Service was prompt and friendly. Highly recommend Perso.

Yelp
Amazing experience! Hubby and I had lamented recently that our dining experiences had been disappointing recently in Louisville. But tonight we landed at Square Cut and had a delicious meal with great service and atmosphere! Glad we made reservations on their website even though we went early @5PM on a Saturday. They were packed by 5:45PM and turning away those without reservations. Next time, we will Lyft there. It's the kind of place you want to hang at and have more drinks. Street parking only. Had my first "Italian Margarita" made with tequila, limoncello and magic. Hubby had Atrium's "Steep Hill in Vegas" and a high wire beer. I switched to a good Chianti. The food: Kale salad with pomegranate seeds, pine nuts and goat cheese was delicious. Also got a house made ricotta spread with pickled celery, sun dried tomatoes, raisins and pine nuts -- serviced with house made bread. Main courses: Husband got the Salumi pizza and I got the baked pasta dish. Both of the dishes were so amazing. We shared and we have great leftovers to savor. Finally a place to come back to and it's in an area we need to discover more of in Germantown. Side note: Ladies restroom was nice and clean, but soooooo chilly! The restaurant is not as cold, even though it's January and we sat just inside the front window.

Yelp
I made a reservation for 6 last night with the plan to do the Chef's Table experience. The Chef will create a dinner experience for you, featuring seasonal items and main menu items. Available for parties 2 people up to 8 people. Full table participation required. Street parking only. Small restaurant with limited bar seating. I would recommend making a reservation via their website to ensure you get a table on the weekends. The restaurant was completely full when we left at 8pm. After requesting the chef's table experience our waitress asked if we had any food allergies or preferences. The first round of food came out quickly and fresh. We started with a Liver Pate, Beat Salad, Soft Baked Egg, Mussels, Ricotta, Stracciatella and warm bread. My favorite was the in house made Ricotta and Stracciatella on the bread. The cheese was so flavorful. Next came out the Formaggio and Clam pizza. I personally did not try the clam pizza but others at the table enjoyed it. I loved the garlic cream sauce on the Formaggio pizza. Then the only dish I was able to snap a quick photo of.... the duck with pumpkin puree and cauliflower. The duck was crispy on the outside with a great tasting sauce. The pumpkin puree didn't do much for me, but it has never been my favorite. The only hiccup during our dinner is that the bar service was slow. I felt like we were waiting for a long period of time for cocktails. Wait staff was constantly rounding with water to refill our glasses. This was our entire tables first time at Square Cut and our meal was AMAZING! I went into this experience with an open mind and almost tried everything. I walked away with a new appreciation for food. I was too busy enjoying the experience to take photos. Thank you to the entire staff at Square Cut for a meal we will raving about all week!

Yelp
The cauliflower three ways was a giant baked cauliflower inadequately seasoned and undercooked. The white bean and radicchio stew was good but really small. I was happy to see so many vegetarian options but they were expensive. And not good in the case of the cauliflower. Those were the only menu items I had and can comment on.

Yelp
Every dish we ordered was underwhelmg.... and frankly bad. The presentation of the food, made you want to push the dish away rather than eat with your eyes. The entire restaurants ambiance is cramped/claustrophobic.

Yelp
A Louisville gem. The food is innovative, fresh and delicious. Their ricotta spread is to die for and their oyster pizza is delectable. Their drinks are GOOD. The Limoncello margarita is spot on and perfect. We've been a few times and even enjoyed the Chef's Table for our anniversary and it did not disappoint*. Highly recommend for a date night or special occasion. *Though. One small caveat on this being a 100% perfect re: Chef's Table. Do NOT order the tiramisu. I get they were trying to be creative and put their own spin on it but just no. Do not mess with tiramisu. I specifically asked this to be the dessert on our Chef's menu meal because tiramisu is my FAVORITE dessert even though it was supposed to all be Chef's choice. And boy did I regret it. It was a dense chocolate cake with what MAYBE could be considered a tiramisu dressing/garnish. So disappointing because I bet if Perso tried to actually make an authentic tiramisu it would be bangarang. Just sharing this footnote as a concerned patron who has frequented your restaurant multiple times and know you're better than this. Do not list something as tiramisu on your menu when the base is chocolate cake. Oof. You guys are SO good. Do not let a mistake cake be your downfall.

Yelp
I have an ongoing, informal fine-dining meet-up with three guy friends, and this week we elected to hit Perso. Italian tends to be a genre that I enjoy... but also one that I don't enjoy paying a lot for. I find that generally, the types of Italian dishes served simply don't feel as if they merit a high price point. I don't feel that way about Perso. At Perso, the seating is very comfortable. We didn't overhear surrounding conversations. We had plenty of space for our foursome and plenty of table real estate for the dishes we ordered. We snagged three appetizers and four entrees and we split them all, so I got to taste a wide array of offerings. I'll start with the drinks. One buddy ordered an Old Fashioned, which he described as "decent." I was eyeing the Lavender Manhattan (2/5), but one of my friends ordered it and so I decided to opt for the Columbo (5/5). It was a stroke of luck. The Lavender Manhattan was tiny and - though the smokiness of the presentation was novel - the drink itself wasn't as interesting as we hoped. We all agreed that the Columbo was the best of the three cocktails. Though it doesn't contain Campari, that was the primary note I got from it. The Brussels Sprouts sounded amazing in the menu description. Though I loved them, I've seldom met a Brussels Sprout that I didn't like. Objectively, these were not among the best I've tasted. The table agreed that we were hoping for a little more diversity of texture and flavor. 3.5/5 The Braised Endive was expensive for the amount of food served. The flavors were complimentary, a nice blend of sweet, tangy, and salty. I'm glad I got to try it, but I wouldn't order it again. 3/5 The Fermented Lentil Dip was a pleasant surprise. I almost vetoed it, but the waitress vouched for it and convinced us to give it a try. I had low expectations, but it was the best appetizer we had. Black garlic is flipping delicious. Eating this really made me want to try my hand at replicating it at home. The bread was a great traveling companion for the dip. If you like hummus, you'll love this. 5/5 Entrees Sturgeon - The table unanimously agreed that this was the weakest item we tried. When you have a light fish dish, you really need to set it off with an incredible sauce or complimentary components (nuts, fruits, spices, etc). This dish fell flat. As one of my friends put it, "If we came here and ordered our own entrees and I paid $42 for the sturgeon, I would have been pissed." I love fish, but even I felt like it was too plain Jane to be taken seriously. 1.5/5 Clams Pizza - I talked the boys into this one, and everyone loved it. I adored the creativity of clams and butternut squash on a pizza. Who knew? I had a hunch that the combination would work, and it truly did. One caveat: eat it while it's hot! It's a shadow of itself once it cools off. A good portion of food, fantastic crust, flavorful cheese, and unique elements. 4.5/5 Florida Royal Red Shrimp - there are few things better than legitimate Royal Red Shrimp. I discovered them in Key West, and I've been in love with them ever since. They're large and sweet, tasting like a synthesis of shrimp and lobster. These shrimp did not live up to my idea of Royal Red Shrimp. The dish wasn't bad, but the shrimp in this dish were anemic and standard - perhaps slimy even - and the polenta wasn't rich and complex. Very straightforward to the point of being homogenous. I've had far superior shrimp and grits dishes at less than half the cost. 2.5/5 Cast Iron Baked Pasta - I was against ordering something so "boring," and boy was I wrong! Perso nailed this dish. The bolognese sauce was exquisite: sweet with a hint of kick. The pasta itself had a perfect texture, with even a slight patina of crispiness where it baked against the bowl. A hearty, mouth-watering adventure. 5/5 A friend ordered the Upside Down Tiramisu, which had a significant brownie vibe, and didn't seem impressed nor disappointed. I can't score it since I didn't try it. Our service was very good and all of us came away feeling very positive about Perso. I'll be coming back again to try some of the other enticing items on their creative menu.

Yelp
Wow, so good! Lots going on here as far as flavor. Impressive! Well thought out menu, wonderful options. We went on a weekday night, it smelled amazing when we walked in. The service was excellent. I ordered the baked pasta and my boyfriend got the red royal shrimp. Both were exceptional. Next level. So many special touches, such as house made ricotta. It was heavenly, light and fresh, so very good. The decor is upscale, exposed brick and very chic vibes. They're a small bar and an intimate dining room area. It's tucked into a corner spot location on Oak Street, with window seating and it was quite lovely. On certain days of the week, Sunday through Wednesday, they have a $29 three-course prefix menu which is stellar and I'm looking forward to trying it! This is really one of the best restaurants I've been to around here in a long time. I'll be back!

Yelp
Square cut pizza DELIVERS! And by delivers, I am talking about quality service, gastronomy (still drooling) and atmosphere! To be honest, I am unsure if they actually deliver to one's home tehe. I want to begin by stating that our server extraordinaire, KP, was the bees. Her recommendations were highly appreciated. Waters remained refilled. And I really appreciated her. I am pretty sure it was solely her and MAYBE one other server for the ENTIRE restaurant last night. And you would have NEVER known. The entire restaurant, from bartender to kitchen staff remained calm and I truly believe its why they ran such a tight shift. We sat in the kitchen (highly recommend) and it was refreshing to watch the staff work as teammates. Brava! Now, onto ze food...! I am LIVING for the Heirloom Carrots, Gem Lettuce Salad, Clam Pizza, Formaggio Pizza and the dessert (I forget its name) that we consumed in our party last eve! The atmosphere went hand in hand with the food and service. Normally, all white walls feel overwhelming to me but not here. The personality and intentionality of the owners/staff was felt and it made the room feel comfortable. Cozy. And for me, an open kitchen where there is seating just feels as if the restaurant is saying, " welcome to our family ". We have friends in town and plan to bring them in tonight. Barely 24 hours after our first visit. That's how dang swell Square Cut Pizza is!

Yelp
This place is fantastic! Had been meaning to try it, and was blown away with how great it was. A little more upscale, but certainly not stuffy. Lovely ambiance, relaxed and comfortable. We went on a Saturday evening, and were glad to to have reservations since they were full otherwise-- they do have a few bar seats for walk-ins. Solid cocktails, and incredible food. The butternut and pumpkin dip was amazing-- whipped texture that I could have eaten with a straw. We also had the mussels and the sausage pizza, which were excellent. Every bit of the experience was fantastic-- will definitely be returning often!

Yelp
It was a great evening for a quick snack before a two hour musical. Heard rave reviews about the menu and the chef ! Ordered the half baked egg .. it's like a custard texture and you load is on fresh bread and that smooth texture just melts in ur mouth. The blacken carrots actually paired really well with the baked egg. Then we shared the clam pizza and the pork belly presse. Wow wow wow that clam pizza was delicious. Loads of whole garlic and clams and chopped up kale. The PB skin was crispy I think it startled the next table couple when I chewed hahaha

Yelp
Square cut pizza is a Shelby park neighborhood pizzeria in Lousiville Kentucky located on east oak street. Look for the popular sunshine and shadow mural at the intersection and that is the side exterior of This pizzeria. My family and I came in on an early Friday evening for a fun night of pizza, ice cream (in the same building corner is a place called sugar room), and to go see a movie. We walked in and was seated immediately by the front door. The inside is a bit smaller. You have a small dining area with a bar area in the front room then a small doorway with a few more seats and the kitchen area. We started off with a Prosciutto charcuterie. On there menu they had like 5-6 options of charcuterie so we was wondering if they just took all the things you normally have on a charcuterie board and made its own board. It appears that's what they did. A very small board with all prosciutto and a small thing of ham and 4 bread slices came out. It was solid. Meat was decent, jam solid and bread was good (good bread will be a theme here). But way overpriced and a very small serving size. We all weee disappointed and much preferred a normal charcuterie board with several options. Which is kinda the fun of a charcuterie board. For our pizzas we went with a sausage and ricotta and a Margherita pizza or as my daughters call margherita (fancy cheese). The pizzas are not quite personal pans but aren't large. They can feed two people maybe three depending on varying appetites. But Venture to say most likely 2. The "fancy cheese" was good. My daughters loved it. We all agreed the crust/breading here is great. The sausage and ricotta was absolutely top notch. So good. Rocky's flavoring was amazing, bread/crust same as other and great and sausage was very good. I'm not too big on sausage pizzas as usually the sausage is too spicy and overpowers the rest of the pizza flavors. Not on Thai pizza. The ricotta and there sausage were perfect compliments. I'd feel comfortable saying it was the best sausage pizza I've ever had. Pricing here was on the high end. The charcuterie boards way overpriced for the variety and serving size. Pizzas are a bit high but are good enough to pay the price tag for them. Service here started off very rough. Had a table full of hungry and excited kids and the waiter kept passing our table up and got our drink orders but wouldn't take our order. Finally had to ask after the kids were starting To get restless. After we had to ask for the waiter to take our order we did receive top notch service and they did a great job. When we were leaving the dinner crowd was piling in. So maybe he was just trying to grab a breather before things got hectic Overall This is a cool, elegant setting and tasty pizzeria in a growing and fun Shelby park area. As mentioned we walked next door to the sugar factory next door for ice cream after this (not sure if same owner but they are on the same building corner) and the ice cream was a nice compliment to the pizza. I think these two businesses whether connected by owners or not can do good business with each other. We absolutely will be back for the pizza here. Me my wife and kids all loved both pizzas we tried here and we like to visit Shelby park a lot to check out all the public art, cool shops and eateries. So we will be repeat customers here.

Yelp
When we lost Scarlet's Bakery (the previous tenants at this location) after the onset of the pandemic I was honestly concerned that the corner would be vacant for a while. In swoops Emil and his culinary vision for Roman-style pizza. Okay, pizza -- that's great, right? Good for the neighborhood. Glad it's not a crap chain. Then I find out this cat wants to produce his own salumi (it's on display!) and have cocktails. Okay, cool. Then I'm hearing him describe how he takes squash peels and seeds and turns them into "ash" to balance the sweetness of the squash. Wait, what? And it's ... delicious. So here they are, down the block, spinning culinary magic while at the same time participating in pizza week ($9 pies) and serving up soft serve with Froot Loops. Creative and still approachable. Sophisticated and still targeting the riff raff (me). Thanks, Emil and Liz, for choosing our little neck of the woods. We love you back. #ThankYouThursday2021

Yelp
A very cute neighborhood eatery! What used to be Scarlet's Bakery, is now Square Cut Pizza. I'm giving this a 5 star for mainly its ambiance and service. We had a fantastic server and the food was fast to arrive. He was knowledgeable about the menu to let us know that an appetizer and a pizza would be enough for two of us. (we ended up getting 2 apps bc the stracciatella looked interesting). The pizza is good enough to share between 2-3 people honestly. We were hungry so we ate it all between 2 but it comes in 9x12 (12 small square cuts). With loads of topping. It has a crunch to it and doesn't feel too bread-y! The Gem Lettuce was light and refreshing but probably won't order that again. The only thing I would say is that it is a little on a pricier side of things. The pizzas ranged between $18-21 per pizza. Would definitely come back and recommend others to visit as well

Yelp
Spur of the moment decision during our recent visit to Louisville. Our kiddo wanted pizza so we figured after checking out the Louisville Jack O' Lantern Spectacular" on a Friday night (8pm) we'd give Square Cut a try. Nice little spot in the Shelby Park District. Fairly busy and more of an "upscale" bar/ pizza experience than straight restaurant. Bringing a 5 yr old wasn't a problem and worked out great, but it's more of a date night or have a few drinks with friends type of place. We ordered the Ricotta with (House made) sun dried tomato, pine nuts, raisin, pickled celery, oregano that comes with some of bread steaks that I think is the same as their pizza crust. Simply delicious! They also have some tasty looking charcuterie options but we did not partake during this visit. We shared a Salumi Pizza that was delicious and more than enough for 2 adults and a toddler. Extremely happy with our experience.

Yelp
Service and food were great! A good date night spot. Their outdoor space out back is really nice too

Yelp
The food here was fantastic! We did the option where the chef prepares a few dishes for the table to share and try, and they were all delicious! The restaurant itself is small and cute, good for small groups or a couple. It would be lovely to sit outside in the patio area on a nice day.

Yelp
My husband and I ordered the Chefs table (3 course meal, chefs choice) . It took 20 min to place our order, 20 min to receive appetizers and another hour to get our entrees. It was definitely an excessive wait. Our appetizers were ok. The chefs table comes with 4 appetizers, which seemed like it would be neat. However, 2/4 appetizers were eggs. Who wants two egg appetizers? I assume they did this because eggs are cheap, but it was not pleasant. We did have some dietary restrictions which they assured us they could work around easily, but there were plenty of other appetizers that we could have been served off their menu and still met those needs. For the 2 family style entrees, they gave us the baked pasta with peas and the Duck Confit. They both had very clearly been under a heating lamp for a while as the peas were crunchy and dry and the duck confit had soggy lukewarm skin. The duck was an interesting choice for a family style meal- only one leg to share. Thankfully, I was here with my husband and didn't care but it would have been a little icky if I was here with friends instead. The farrotto served with the duck was also flavorless and dry. The dessert served was their strawberry rhubarb panna cotta with mint. The panna cotta was set nicely, but I think they were trying too hard to make the dish unique with the toppings and I think they missed the mark. Per my husband, "we paid $150 for this BS" Thank you and goodnight

Yelp
First time here, so new experience! We started with cocktails I got an Italian Margarita and my wife got the Lavender Manhattan, second round I got the Manhattan and she got the chili lime drop. All of them were excellent. Great cocktails check! We went with the chef's selection and SO glad we did. Started with juniper spiced salami, Eggplant dip, and heirloom tomato. Wow it knocked my socks off, and the bread that came with different things was awesome! They make the bread in house. Then they bought out Clam pizza and verlasso salmon. All I can say (after 2 cocktails and lots of food) is WOW!!! The pizza has thicker crust, but like a thin crust (I know confusing) tender crust. Chunks or Clams and whole cloves of garlic and so much cheese! The salmon dish was so good with the prosciutto lemon butter was awesome. Gotta come back and try it all!

Erin M.

Yelp
Great food, service was good. We got a bunch of different charcuterie and flatbreads and everything was delicious. The clam flatbread was the best!! There's a cute little patio bar in the back.

Yelp
My husband and I chose to have our "quick" date night dinner here tonight after a suggestion from a friend that had actually never eaten here either, but she claims she has heard nothing but good things. We went as walk-ins and quickly learned we were lucky they had a table open for us (so make a reservation). It is a small dive type restaurant but has a warm charm to it. After looking at the menu and hearing the options on how to eat dinner (order our own, to a prix fix, or do chef's table) we chose the Chef's Table to be surprised and eat a larger variety of items. Our waitress was wonderful and understood our time constraints of having to be back to pick up our son from his soccer practice. We enjoyed our meal here very much! Each dish had its own identity, and we could not pick which one we liked the best. The fresh made focaccia bread served with several items to spread or dip with it--ricotta with pine nuts and roasted tomatoes was so yummy, a fennel au gratin we needed more, roasted peppers with bacon now has me linking peppers better, and a prosciutto board. The next course was an Arctic Char and a vegetable pasta with red sauce and peas. OH MY GOODNESS, the taste they had was wonderful. To top off this wonderful meal our dessert was a rhubarb pan a cotta that we nearly fought over the last drop! I cannot wait to return and share this gem with our friends!

Yelp
I live within walking distance of Square Cut Pizza and I confess if I could have picked anything to go into this spot it probably would have been a low-brow (but locally owned) takeout joint. And that would have been my loss, because Square Cut--while more upscale than what I may have envisioned--is a really great place. This is not your big, greasy, customizable, party-sized pizza. This is Roman-style. It comes on a quarter sheet and can serve 1-2-ish people. Many of the options do not have tomato sauce. I've had other square pizzas (Sicilian, Detroit-style) but this isn't like those at all. And I've had other Italian style pizzas, like Neapolitan, but this isn't quite that either. Never having any other Roman-style pizza, I can't tell you if this is a typical example. But I can tell you that the texture of the crust is delightful. It's chewy but not too bready. It's crispy but not tough. As good as the toppings are, the dough is the star for me. Pizza isn't the only thing on the menu though! There's a super thoughtfully composed selection of starters and there's a seasonal menu as well. The main problem I've experienced is only having one stomach but wanting to try everything on the menu! To that point, I recommend coming with a few friends so you can order more things and share. I've tried several starters, including the mixed olives, which are like, absurdly good. You think you know what an olive will taste like, but I promise you can still be surprised. The ricotta starter should not be missed. It's amazing. I've also tried the blackened carrots with lentils and the roasted cauliflower (from the seasonal menu). All good. I haven't had the chance to try the charcuterie, but they are starting to cure their own meats so I look forward to trying those as they become available. Of the pizzas I've tried, I think the Nduja is my favorite so far. Nduja is a spicy pork sausage spread and on the pizza it's paired with butternut squash and smoked mozzarella. I've also tried the Margherita, Formaggio, and Mushroom. I would order any of them again, and probably will ... after I've tried some of the other options. They also offer brunch on Saturdays and Sundays. I've only been to brunch once and we tried the 60-Minute Egg (served atop deliciously silky grits), smoked salmon spread ('nuff said), and the Nutella pizza (which has marmalade to balance the rich hazelnut and chocolate). I would 100% come back and just order the 60-minute egg as my whole brunch. The Nutella pizza was ... a lot. Like, I love sweets, but it was a little much for me. I recommend it for 4 people who are each having other things. There were only two of us and I think brunch was consequently a little unbalanced. Even though this review is already really long, I have to say a few words about the cocktails. They are just as thoughtfully conceived as everything else on the menu. And you may say, "Michael, why do I need one of their cocktails when I can get an amazing cocktail across the street at Trouble Bar?" And the answer is: Do both. I highly recommend Square Cut's green apple mule--but don't expect some unnaturally green, Jolly Rancher type drink. This isn't a sweet/tart green apple. It just happens to be made with charred apple skins to compliment the smokiness of the mezcal. I've never heard of anything like it but it works. Also, every staff member I've interacted with is super nice, as are the owners, Emil and Liz. The former is the culinary wizard behind all the great flavor and texture combinations on the menu. All in all, it's a great spot and well deserving of 5-stars.

Yelp
Square Cut Pizza is awesome! I live in Shelby Park, and I am so happy to have this amazing pizza joint in our neighborhood. It's a small spot, that looks and feels upscale, and offers a gourmet-level menu; but, it's also casual and welcoming. The menu contains pizza, pasta, awesome appetizers, and cocktails. I've tried a bit of each, and everything I've ordered has been delicious! Also, they have a great happy hour. If you're looking for a more casual, quick, or lower cost visit, you should definitely check it out! This spot is perfect for dinner, drinks, happy hour, or brunch. If you haven't been yet, I highly suggest it!

Yelp
Made a reservation for perso, it is a smaller restaurant. We started with one their cheese small plates, and also tried a pizza. I had their veggie pasta which was a large portion. The waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu and explained the dishes when they were served.

Yelp
Oh. My. Goodness. This Filipino brunch popup was everything I had hoped for and more. I'm a first generation Filipino-American and I love sharing Filipino food with my friends. The tocino pork belly was so tasty, sweet/sticky and paired so well with the savory garlic fried rice. I'm so glad we saved room for the ube creme brûlée. I'm not a huge sweets person so ube is the perfect treat - vanilla-y creamy and the purple is just so pretty! Chef outdid himself with this one and I can't wait to attend the next one.
