"Famed Chinese chef Peter Chang debuted the ninth location of his eponymous restaurant in Gaithersburg, Maryland on Thursday, April 18. The Sichuan flavor master’s latest locale serves a familiar lineup of tapas-style starters, dim sum, and specials like garlic steamed pork belly, hot and numbing stone pot flounder, shredded tofu skin salad, steamed pork soup dumplings, and more. Peter Chang Gaithersburg is open daily for dine-in and takeout from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. (and 10 p.m. on Saturdays)." - Tierney Plumb

OMG this is one of the most authentic Sichuan restaurants in the area! Everything was amazing and it's like I was literally in China!! Service was excellent, servers were so friendly, portions were huge! We ordered the Mother's Day and AAPI Special seasonal menu with some additional appetizers and fried sweet & sour fish! Our faves were: Peking duck obviously (the signature dish there) Prawn minced garlic Stir fried sweet pea leaves Fried sweet & sour fish

I liked that I could try a variety of dishes in small portions. Each dish was delicious. The price was a bit on the higher side. Parking is easy and spacious. ————-revised in June 2025 The Szechuan spicy beef jerky is bland and too dry. I don’t recommend it. The mapo tofu and lion head were also not very tasty.— the overall quality seems to have gone down?

Love it!! I think this location is better in Gaithersburg!! Friendly staff. We were a party of three with no reservations. We ordered from the dinner menu and the tapas menu. You will find the Mongolian beef on the tapas menu. Note: they appear to charge for soft drink refills so be sure to ask. My daughter had a lemonade refill and I noted the charge. The food was tasty all around. The sauce that came with the spring rolls I believe is a cross sweet n sour with peanut sauce. I think I can do without it. That is the only food “pause” I had. Our server, Tian, might be new but he did ok. All the food came out except the Popcorn Chicken dish. He didn’t realize what we were telling him until my husband pointed to his empty plate and said his food was missing. Then he came back to make sure he had the order right. It came right out once the error was realized. I will come back. Adding another local good eats to the list!

It's one of my all-time favorite restaurants, hands-down. First discovered Peter Chang's in Richmond, Virginia. I have since been to all of his restaurants in the dmv. We got the spicy tofu skin, Taiwanese fried chicken, fried eggplant, bubble pancake, and basil chicken pot (not puctured). All the food was amazing, as always, and I highly recommend getting a pot of jasmine tea.

My husband has been visiting Peter Chang Gaithersburg for years with his coworkers and has always raved about their dishes. We finally had the chance to dine here together, and it absolutely lived up to the hype! We ordered Peter Chang's signature Peking duck (whole), which was perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside—truly a showstopper. The Hot Chili Oil Beef Tendon (cold dish) was packed with bold flavors and had an incredible texture. The Mama's Handmade Noodles with Chili Oil were delightfully chewy, with just the right kick of spice. The Spicy Dry Fried Eggplant was crispy and addictive, even for someone who isn't usually an eggplant fan. And, of course, the famous Scallion Bubble Pancake—crispy, airy, and so fun to eat—was the perfect complement to our meal. Every dish was expertly prepared, bursting with authentic flavors, and served with great attention to detail. The staff was attentive, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. If you're a fan of authentic Szechuan cuisine or just love bold, flavorful dishes, Peter Chang Gaithersburg is an absolute must-visit. We'll definitely be back!

Stop by for late lunch, and they actually offer tapas portion dishes. So the portion size is smaller compared to traditional dishes, but it gives patrons lots of choices to try different dishes. We had total of 9 dishes, mostly good, but the stem pork rib dish was not up to par, it had way too much starch, it felt like eat a wet breaded pork rib. For 3 steam dumpling for 9 bucks was slightly steep. But over all was great lunch. The highlight was the pork belly stew, and lions head meat ball, even though it was only one meat ball, it was pretty good. The beef chow fan was good too. And the shrimp with walnut was decent too. Total out of the door with tips was $103 for 4 people. We’ll be back again.

The new menu is a good departure from their old menu when they were located at the rockville town center, With often changing items, you will always have something new to pick from. I highly recommend the soup dumplings and salt and pepper chicken. The quality of the food here is great, but service is lacking, often having to sit for 10-29 before anyone even comes to your table. The place looks great and has a great atmosphere, and I am glad they moved closer to the germantown area.

Google
This was my second time ordering from Peter Chang's. I had a good experience previously, which is why I decided to place a takeout order yesterday. Unfortunately, when I opened my container, I noticed that parts of the Mongolian Beef were undercooked and appeared raw. I'm very glad I checked the meat thoroughly before eating any of it. This experience was both disappointing and concerning. I expected better quality and food safety from an establishment like this. Sadly, I won’t be returning.

Yelp
when I went there to eat for the first time my server, Damian was so nice he gave me good made me laugh. Would recommend to be over there with friends

Yelp
Peter Chang Gaithersburg is currently offering a limited time AYCE dim sum and tapas brunch from Mon-Fri 11-3pm for $26/person and $6 mimosa or house beer. Our favorites were the crystal shrimp dumpling, Chili Oil Pork Wontons, Spicy Dry Fried Bamboo Fish, Oyster sauce tofu skin roll and Green Beans w. Pickled Cabbage. The barbecue pork bao were undercooked, and honey pork rib were overcooked, but most of the other things were decent. We thought it was a good price especially for the quality. Our server was attentive however there was a minor hiccups (second day of launching the limited time AYCE). They gave us two dishes we didn't order, and our server didn't put in 2-3 dishes so we had to notify our server when they didn't come. There are two private bathrooms and they were clean. They also have a private room for parties. There is a small private parking lot.

Yelp
As Chinese American who love to try local Chinese restaurants, we rate it 2 star. Service overall good. We ordered 5 dishes. Unfortunately, only 1 vegetable and 1 fish are acceptable and edible to us. This means they do have good chefs. But the other 3 dishes? Indescribable. If you must go, order things that can only be made fresh in house.

Yelp
Going to order everytime: dry fried eggplant, tofu skin and bok choy, vegetable dumplings Still excellent: grandma's braised pork belly My new favorite Chinese restaurant. It was my first time to peter Chang's for dinner on Christmas day. I expected a long wait but even while it was full, they were able to stay my family quickly. The dishes were small but great size to share. The stand outs were the dry fried eggplant, tofu skin and bok choy, vegetable dumplings. I loved the grandma's braised pork belly but want to try the pork with bamboo shoots next time. The vegetable spring rolls didn't quite hit for me. The pork soup dumplings were great but with such a vast menu, I want to try others. The mapo tofu had the great but typical flavor in used to. The parking is tight and no easy exit through the back.

Yelp
Favorite Chinese restaurant in the area?? Quite possibly. We came on a Saturday afternoon around 12:30 and were able to be seated right away. Our waitress told us that they have a new dimsum menu! It was cheaper to order off the dim sum menu and also be able to try multiple things. So we got the soup dumplings, shumai, chili oil wontons. I have to say the soup dumplings REALLY impressed me! The skin was SO thin that the second we lifted them we could see the bottoms breaking, so you gotta eat them fast but I liked that. Off the regular menu, we got the Mom's handmade chili oil noodles (a must!), mapo tofu, lemoncello walnut shrimp, and braised pork belly. MAN IT WAS SO hard to pick a favorite. Everything was impeccable. Normally we eat our Chinese food on the weekends with my parents and since they've been out of town we had to get our fix, and we really got it at Peter Chang's! Since we've been, David and I have been talking about the next time going back. Definitely give it a try!

Yelp
I'm not going to tell you what to order at Peter Chang's newest location- I'll leave that to your server, because I'm guessing that all of the servers here are as attentive and opinionated as Damian was for us during our meal. I truly appreciated his suggestions both on which flavors would pair well and on how many dishes to order. Thanks to his guidance our table of four all left full but not stuffed while avoiding having to take anything with us, an important thing to consider while we traveled through the area. We were on the East Coat to attend a wedding and to visit with a few friends. We also wanted to revisit a few favorite restaurants and remind ourselves of the flavors and dishes we miss most from when we lived in the area. The first words out of Wendall's mouth when our dear friend Mike B. suggested Peter Chang were "Dry Fried Eggplant!" Hey- I think we had a winner, considering it had been five years since the last time we had tasted this perfect dish! Honestly, every single thing we tried during our meal was close to perfect. While my favorite two choices were the dry fried eggplant and the cumin potatoes(a vegetarian treatment of the always amazing cumin lamb), the egg fried rice was also amazing in its simplicity, and was the perfect foil for the spicy elements of the meal. I also loved the egg with shrimp and the cucumber salad, both simple standards, but so well done. Our meal also included a very nice walnut shrimp, shu mai, and soup dumpling. The only dishes I didn't absolutely love were the slightly too sweet braised pork belly and the slightly too oily green beans with pork, but I'd still gladly order either of them a second time. The decor here is simple and clean, with plenty of fantastic light through the tall windows. The booths were large and comfortable, and the staff was not intrusive as we sat with our friends Joy and Mike and caught up on everything. We all had places to go after dinner, but I'm positive that if we'd had more time to spend there the staff would have been happy to continue to host us well after the table was mostly cleared. I appreciate a place that understands that some meals need to be savored, and that some friendships, like some special dishes, are just as delightful many years after your first encounter. (Love to both Mike and Joy for sharing this special afternoon with us!)

Yelp
Food was amazing! The numbing green peppercorn flounder pairs well with the egg scallion fried rice. It wasn't too spicy! Just the perfect kick to it! The dumplings were soft and flavorful! The pecking duck was crispy and succulent! We concluded our lunch with the delicious glutinous rice dessert. It was so crispy on the outside and so soft in the inside! Service was quick. The food came out within 5 minutes of ordering. Everyone was attentive and checked in on us every 10 minutes. The restaurant was quiet and intimate. Perfect place to have a family dinner!

Yelp
Finally tried this place and it was a huge let down. The food lacked flavor and is very basic and bland. Here's what we got: Szechuan sweet spicy popcorn: 4/10. This dish tasted like it was air fried and tossed in sweet & spicy sauce from Popeyes. It also had way too much breading and barely any chicken. Fried eggplant: 6/10. This was okay. Probably the best dish out of everything we ordered. Airy and some flavor. Lemoncello crispy walnut shrimp: 3/10. Too much breading and no flavor. Firecracker salmon spring rolls: 2/10. Just not good at all. The more I ate it, the more I just wanted it to stop. Pork dumplings: 4/10. It tasted like it was frozen and not flavorful. Garlic cucumbers: 6/10. Just bc I love cucumbers. Duck Hot & sour soup: 4/10. Basic. Our waitress was nice and polite. She didn't bother us too much but was helpful at the same time. She tried to suggest some dishes but I don't think we'll be back. We really wanted to like this place and walking out hungry after spending $85 was so disappointing.

Yelp
Peter Chang is a master of Asian cuisine. This beautifully decorated restaurant adds a shining 5+ star experience to its list of successful dining spots. The beautiful tables, the lovely murals both inside and outside leave you feeling excited, before you even taste the exquisite food. Damian was our server and he was warm and welcoming. He even gave us great advise on which dishes that he really liked. The dishes are tapas size so for our party of 4, we ordered a smorgasbord of delights. Some of our favorites were the fried rice, the walnut shrimp, and the cumin potatoes. Then, we loved the shrimp with scrambled eggs, the garlic cucumber salad, and the long beans and pork. I can't forget the tasty eggplant, shrimp shumai and soup dumplings. I was pleasantly surprised that they had dishes at every spice level. The dishes come out quickly and we enjoyed every dish. There were no doggy bags needed. We were so happy to share them with our close friends, who were visiting from Hawaii. The food and conversation flowed freely. Thank you Peter Chang for a wonderful meal only made happier by seeing our close personal friends. I can't wait to go back. Thank you!

Yelp
As expected, Peter Chang Gaithersburg was absolutely fantastic. Both the food and the service. Both the ambiance and the parking. Both the flavors and the selection. Both the plating and the presentation. I don't think there was a thing that we got that I wouldn't recommend. I know... double negatives are confusing. To make it clear: I would recommend everything. The cumin potatoes: One of the spicer things we got - super flavorful and punchy and delicious. Dry fried eggplant: Man these are so good. This is one of those recipes I'd give my kidney for. Please adopt me Peter Chang. Egg scallion fried rice: Nice amount of egg, lighter on the scallion, but a nice lighter end fried rice that went well with everything. Cucumber garlic salad: Whatever dressing is on this salad, it is both nostalgic somehow, and is also the best version of this dish I think I've tasted. Shrimp w. soft scrambled eggs: So delicious and light. Lemoncello Shrimp with Walnuts: I was a little worried that this would actually taste like the liqueur haha. Luckily, it did not. It just tasted like your run of the mill super delicious shrimp with walnuts. The soup dumplings (we got three orders of three): I don't think I could accurate rate these as we let them sit for a bit too long. That said, they were pretty darn good when we got around to them. Grandma's braised pork belly: The delicious sweet sugary sauce that coated this pork belly could easily be bottled and sold. Then we ordered the local farm green beans with shredded pork: This is the only dish that I think needed to be adjusted. It was a bit too oily for my taste. That being said, the flavor was on point. But if I got it again, I might ask if they could go a bit lighter on the oil... if that's a thing. The menu is very much tapas style so you can get plenty of tastes. That said... we got all of the above for 4 people... ended up spending about 33 dollars per person with tax and tip. And for the meal we had and the quality, it was well worth it. Would go back again. No doubt.

Yelp
I tried this place for the first time over the weekend and now I'm officially hooked! At first I was quite skeptical as I was afraid it might not be as good as other Asian restaurants I've tried but I think it might be one of the better ones. When we first arrived we were immediately stat right away even though it was quite busy for a Saturday night. We ended up ordering a bunch of dishes so we could all share and try. My favorite dishes we ended up trying by far was definitely the beef noodle soup, as the soup flavor was extremely rich and had a lot of flavor compared to most other beef noodle soups I've had in the past. The noodles were also super long and chewy, and you could definitely tell that they were handmade and fresh. My second favorite dish would definitely be the Peking duck. (Just a fair warning, the duck takes the longest time to prepare so we ordered it immediately when we sat down and our server came over to greet us. So if you guys do come here to try the duck I would advise you to order it first and as soon as possible so it could come out around the same time as your other foods.) The skin on the duck was super thin and crispy with a good amount of fat on them, and they provided more than enough wraps for the whole duck (most places don't and I usually end up running out and having to try to ask for more). The meat itself was also very juicy and moist but not dry at all. This easily became one of my favorite Peking ducks I've gotten in the dmv area and definitely worth checking out if you like dishes like that. The price was also pretty fair for the amount of meat we ended up getting too which was a huge plus for me. Now for the service, all the servers were super attentive and made sure to constantly check up on us throughout the whole night. We also really enjoyed the atmosphere of the whole restaurant as it was very nicely and moderately decorated and added to the whole ambiance for the night. The only downside was that some of the tables in the middle seemed a bit too close together but most of the people didn't seem to mind and it was a Saturday night. All in all I would 100% recommend for everyone to try this place out if you are craving a more authentic Chinese foods.

Richa T.

Yelp
Amazing amazing food!! We got a very last-minute dinner reservations here for Valentine's Day. We ordered dumplings, fried eggplant, Kung pao chicken, scallion fried rice, a drink each, and everything was DELICIOUS! The food came out very quickly and the server checked on us regularly. The place is decent size and they also have a private room for events.

John M.

Yelp
The order arrived in a very timely manner and the price was reasonable. However, I ordered sweet and sour chicken and there was no rice with the order. In addition, if I hadn't checked on Yelp, I would not know the food was delivered.

Elaine D.

Yelp
We didn't know what to expect but we were pleasantly surprised with the service, quality and freshness of the vegetables and meats. The dumplings were delicious!

Deborah B.

Yelp
Well, I usually order the duck, and there was even a special offered that evening, but we tried something new -the fried fish. OMG presentation was as amazing as the taste. It turned heads for all who passed by. We started with the hot and sour soup, delicious as well, stocked with lots of fungus and egg drizzle. The pot stickers were crispy on the outside and light and flavorful inside with a thick almost like hosin sauce. This is one of favorite places for Chinese.

Carroll N.

Yelp
9.20.24 Food was amazing!! Highly recommend the Lemoncello Crispy Walnut Shrimp and Mama's Basil Eggplant. I've had Walnut Shrimp and Basil Eggplants at other Chinese restaurants and these were by far the best I ever had. Both were crispy and flavorful. The Mongolian Beef was good, but I have had better. The Pork Dumplings IMO were on par with other restaurants in the area. Service provided by Damian was exceptional. He came by frequently at least five times to check on us. Some may say it may have been too much. :) They are currently working on completing the final touches a private room which will be able to seat approximately 25 people. To reserve the room there will be a minimum purchase of $700. They have a beautiful mural outside the restaurant which makes for a great photo opportunity. Also there is a lovely egg chair in the lobby. The restaurant has booths by the windows and regular seating in the center of the restaurant. Damian initially sat my friend and I at a booth where there were vents so I asked to be moved because there was a draft. We sat by the windows where there was sunlight coming in then I was too hot. Lol. I am temperamental about temperature so I likely should have asked to be seated in the center of the restaurant. Overall I enjoyed the food and service so highly recommend this location.

Yelp
This was our first time visiting Peter Chang, all I can say is it did not disappoint! It was Christmas Eve, so the place was very busy, but we had a reservation and were seated immediately. Our server Christine was so friendly and very efficient! And what can I say about the food, it was absolutely delicious! We will most definitely be back! Thank you!

Xander C.

Yelp
Good food. I liked the "mouthwatering chicken" quite a bit, it had a real chongqing numbing flavor to it. I also liked the concepts of smaller plates so you can try a little of many things, almost like a dim sum or tapas dining concept. That said, some of the dishes fell flat or did not register as "authentic" to me. I think for the area, it is pretty good. obviously compared to asia or even california, it's a far cry. I'm wishing them great success, however. They don't do strictly "Americanized-Chinese" food, and they don't do strictly "super authentic chinese" food, but they are walking a tight rope somewhere in between. that's a delicate balance, and so far I think they are nailing it. Hope to see more of them in the future.

Jasmine G.

Yelp
Nathan was our waiter and he was great! So nice and friendly. I told him it was my birthday and my friend recommended this place to go to and asked which options were the most popular. We ordered those options and it did not disappoint. The honey bbq ribs were so good! The scallion egg fried rice was good too! The pork soup dumplings were my favorite! The atmosphere was cute and vibey! I can't believe I didn't come here before! It's a sneaky spot I feel like everyone should go to! I went at the end of the night and the customer service was still great and the food tasted so fresh! I know when a restaurant is busy? It's popular! Parking wasn't an issue and the hostess/manager got us a table very quickly! Appreciate you all for giving me a great first experience here. Will definitely come again! Thanks again Nathan!

Yelp
This new location is beautifully decorated and more casual than the former Peter Chang's in Rockville Town Center. They offer some of the dishes from before but smaller snack portions at a lower price. We wanted to try some newer items that we have not tried at the Rockville location so my husband and I ordered the Taiwanese popcorn chicken, broiled whole branzino (spicy), egg scallion fried rice, and the seasonal sautéed sweet potato leaves. Aside from the popcorn chicken, all the dishes we ordered were family size. All of them tasted great! The popcorn chicken was tender and crispy with just enough white pepper. The broiled branzino was like a hot pot with the whole branzino, glass noodles, enoki, potato, and lotus roots. We ordered the spicy and it was pretty spicy but we enjoyed it. Definitely needed the rice with it. You will need to order rice, by the way, the dishes do not come with rice. The sweet potato leaves were similar to spinach but a little bit sweeter and the stems were firmer. Much needed greens to with the fish and rice. We really enjoyed the meal. We felt as though we had to look for our server or ask for things often. Not that the service staff was not good but they could have been more attentive. It could have been because the two tops are so close together, it may have been difficult to see. We would definitely return to try more dishes. We're so happy it's even closer to home now!

Thi H.

Yelp
Dined in for lunch during the week and we got seated right away. The restaurant is very modern and has plenty of table and booth seating. Service was quick and food came out hot and everything was tasty. We ordered Peter Chang's Signature Branzino, crispy with sweet and sour sauce. It was a bit on the tangy sweet side but still delicious and I would order again! We also ordered Mama's Handmade Noodles with Braised Beef, Lemoncello Crispy Walnut Shrimp, Taiwanese Crispy Popcorn Chicken, combination fried rice, and Osmanthus Honey Pork Rib.

Victoria S.

Yelp
Very elegant and upscale decor, but slightly more casual vibe than the other outposts. The main focus here is small plates (all reasonably priced) that are good for sharing. Was crowded on a Friday night but able to get seated right away. Server was extremely attentive, friendly and helpful (especially in answering questions about veganizing certain dishes). They also had special summer and banquet menus. We ordered the mapo tofu, xi'an cold skin noodles, mamma's handmade noodles with chili oil and dry fried bamboo fish (all from regular menu). Every dish was excellent. A standout was the handmade noodles (perfect texture and chew, tossed in garlic, scallions, vinegar and chili oil. The fish was crispy and had great cumin spice. The cold skin noodles were refreshing (spicy and numbing but not too overwhelming), mixed with cucumbers, bean sprouts and vegan protein. Tofu was also very good. Will need to try other signature dishes (bubble scallion pancakes, fried eggplant).

Yelp
I really wanted to like this restaurant & I've given it a couple chances but this time was the last. I got grandma's pork and it probably needs 2 more hours in the oven low & slow. It was a lot of pork belly but they didn't finish cooking the dish. I prefer tender, soft pork belly I can cut with a fork and this was like rubber. They fried rice was okay but it was missing that special, addictive fried rice flavor. Even the sweet & sour pork wasn't great. I've also had the lemoncello shrimp and I ate the whole dish but it was just okay. However, they do get 2 stars because the soup dumplings and the pan fried pork dumplings are really, really good, superb flavor & texture. If I do return, I'll stick with the dumplings.

L W.

Yelp
Where's the shrimp? Too much batter in the shrimp and walnuts. Nice atmosphere and no hot tea

Lori Z.

Yelp
I have been to several Peter Chang restaurants and I have to say, I just don't get it. We tried this one because a family member wanted to go there and was very excited about the menu, having recently visited. Since the restaurants are all a little different, I figured this one might be an improvement over others I've tried. The small dish menu was nice and, although they are listed as tapas, the portions were appropriate for the price. We ordered several and all but one I found entirely unsatisfying. The lamb cubes were a good level of spicy and pretty tasty overall. The corn and egg drop soup was probably the most bland I've ever tasted. It's like eating nothing. The spring rolls were mushy and flavorless. The big puff of a scallion bubble was just kind of a cool looking dry bread with a bit of oil. The sauce it came with was okay. The popcorn chicken was pretty good, with a nicely spiced coating, but because there is nothing but little bits of chicken it didn't really have anything to hold it up as an independent meal. We ordered a few sides of rice, since small plates do not come with it, and even that seemed slightly dry. A highlight was the shrimp dumpling. The vegetable dumplings were just okay. I can't eat walnuts but was told the walnut shrimp was also very good. The parking is ample and the staff was friendly enough, quickly replacing an incorrect order. The food came out quickly and was freshly prepared. The rating is a bit low, it's true, and I would probably give 3.5 if it were possible but - I just genuinely don't enjoy the food and can't understand the hype. I will likely return but only if someone else wants to go. So, that's the reason for the rating. Nice place, no real complaint.....it just isn't my thing.

Yelp
Highly recommend Peter Chang Gaithersburg if you are looking for authentic Chinese cuisine with good flavor! However- the portion size is smaller than the traditional larger family style, so you may need to order more if you really like a certain dish. Some of my favorites are the lion's head meatball, braised pork belly, and hot chili oil boiled flounder. Would definitely recommend the Gaithersburg location over the Rockville Town Center location! The last time I had gone to the RTC location, the menu was very different (seemed to change from their original menu) and quality was not up to par. I would say that the Peter Chang Gaithersburg is definitely consistent with their other chains as well (Mama Chang in Virginia).

Yelp
So I came back and tried this place and their different dishes. Their logistics got better and it didn't seem to be a mess. The parking lot is small but at least there are no more potholes everywhere. The entering and exiting is a bit of a hassle though but it was based on location. The servers seemed frazzled trying to get the footing. But it wasn't too bad. We didn't order the duck this time as we tried it on their take out only days. We tried several of their dishes and one question popped up. If it was priced around 9$ per dish, how big was the dish? Turns out to be small. Kind of laughable small. Luckily, they are still having their grand opening discount, but.... As regular price, I think it's overpriced for the amount. The Branzino was way too sweet. We enjoyed the eggplant and the farmers stir fry the most. We noticed that the farmers stir fry is the same as Mama Changs in Fairfax, just a lot smaller. The food came out quickly and the service was fine. You can pay through your phone and through a QR code. You can even split the bill that way. I like the system.

Yelp
I was visiting family. We wanted Chinese food. My sister suggested this restaurant. We made reservations and we got there and we were sit down promptly. When we looked at the menu we noticed the dishes were very authentic. I must say it was one of the best Chinese food experiences I had. They have many different options, but not the usual Chinese food that you may expect. I ordered some gluten-free dishes off the menu and they were delicious. We all were very happy with our meal and the service.

Yelp
Great food and some small plates so that you can taste more for less! Had an abundance of choices since you can order appetizer sized main courses which is a unique twist that satisfies your taste buds. Had the Peking duck, Mama's braised pork belly, String beans with shredded pork and some Soup dumplings to name a few. Nice cozy booths with some outdoor seating choices that may not be quite ideal right now since the cooler weather is setting in, at the moment. Near the Gaithersburg Costco location with plenty of parking spaces. Will like to try some other dishes like the home made noodles and seasonal specialties next time!

Yelp
The food here is excellent and the service is almost always great. They haven't done much to make the space attractive, but it's comfortable enough.

Yelp
This restaurant is relatively new in the Gaithersburg region. The service was really good- the waitress was attentive, gave great suggestions, and brought the food out very quickly. The quality of the food was delicious!! Everything was so good! It was more on the spicy end and was more Szechuan style cooking than Hong Kong style cooking, but delicious none the less. I loved their Peking duck! Ambiance was great. We were here on a Sunday afternoon so it wasn't too packed, but when I drive by on weekends I always see lines because this place is so popular! I'll be back to try more food!

Yelp
I recently placed a pick-up order at Peter Chang in Gaithersburg. The order was ready on time, and we were greeted kindly by a hostess who may have been the owner. The interior decor was very nice, and there was plenty of parking available outside. We ordered the Pork Soup Dumplings, Taiwanese Popcorn Chicken, Hot & Sour Soup with Shredded Duck, and Dan Dan Noodles with Pork & Peanuts. Everything was delicious and tasted authentic. However, the portion sizes were quite small for the price. At $44.52 (before tip), the cost felt high, especially since we were still hungry after finishing. For example, the soup dumplings came with only three pieces for $9. It doesn't make senses that one dumpling is more expensive than a shucked oyster (at some places). While the food and pick-up service were good, the value for money left something to be desired.

Yelp
The service is excellent. That makes this a definite stop when considering a place to eat. The food was quick, tasty and the ambience pleasant. Check this place out for a change in the same old Chinese cuisine. Restrooms were very clean. We will definitely return.

Yelp
Very different selections from what I'm used to in Chinese cuisine. Spicy Cumin is not the seasoning I expect, but we ordered the lamb cubes, and spicy Cumin is what we got! The dried fried eggplant was delicious, as were the pork dumplings. I was a bit disappointed in the lemencillo walnut shrimp, but there's plenty of other things to try in future visits. What I liked the least was that the waitress, Vanessa, hovered over us as soon as SHE thought we should be leaving! But we had paid for hot tea, an we were enjoying the jasmine tea after our meal. Next time, Peking duck.

Yelp
Holy Toledos!!! What an amazing place this is!! Do yourself a favor and make reservations. We did not and were told the wait could be long due to not having rsvp, but all that did was pack more patience as we realized it must be really good if EVERYONE new the secret but us! And to our surprise.. they got us seated rather quickly... food was AMAZING!! Service was AMAZING!! Ambience was AMAZING!! Only thing they could do differently is to place signs for possible tastebud explosions

Yelp
My mom had booked the private room for a Friday evening dinner. They have bigger family style portions as well dim sum style. We were able to order several small dishes to try amongst the 12 of us. Some of them included, cucumber salad, shredded tofu salad, green beans, kung pao chicken, sichuan popcorn chicken, grandma's braised pork belly, mongolian beef, lemoncello crispy walnut shrimp and peking duck. I would recommend everything we ordered except the braised pork belly, i did not like the texture of it and was expecting something a little different. I'm happy to have some good peking duck in the area! The pricing is a little high considering how small the portions are. Parking is AWFUL and the dining area was packed because there is not much of a waiting area. But hopefully, they're getting more organized.

Yelp
Came here for lunch on Friday with some friends. A friend was able to get reservations for 1145a and she ordered bunch of dishes for us to try. It wasn't crowded at first but hy 1230p the dining area was packed. The dishes were delicious with the cucumber salad and popcorn chicken being our favorite. Some of the dishes mainly the noodles were a bit too oily. The setup is dim sum where people share dishes. The service started off great when we were one of few people there but as it became crowded service became slow. I ordered an ice tea and was told it was bring prepared towards the end of the meal. I had to cancel drink order because still wasn't brought out while we ate. I would suggest making reservations and try to get there earlier than lunch or dinner crowds if you are restricted on time. Overall, experience was pleasant. My group said we would come back to try other dishes we were interested in.

Thanks goodness finally amazing Peking duck. Best Peter Chang location so far, small plates very reasonable and even dum sum every day!

Yelp
3.5 stars! I think this will go up once they are open longer, and the service could have been better. Our server was very sweet, but it did take some time for her to come over at first, and then the food runners were also kind of lost not knowing which table is what. The table next to us got a bottle of wine and it looked like the owner went over and greeted them and brought over the bottle. That was very nice of her, but she didn't walk around to any of the other tables. I would say that the food is bomb and worth its price. The tables next to us were looking at our tables food and we were looking at everyone else's tables. Lots of different options. We would order everything that is pictured again except for the pork belly. I know that pork belly has a lot of fat and that's what makes it but this was just way too much fat to ratio.

Yelp
Tapas style Chinese, not traditional sum dishes (there were a couple of those). The smaller portions allowed us to try a few things without breaking the bank. We were surprised the amount of food in these smaller portions - more than expected. We definitely had leftovers. Parking: it was a little challenging. Small lot. As we were leaving the lot, someone was leaving, lucky us. Seating: it was a little tight. Booth seatings were fine, but the tables are a little close together. Service - they were doing the best they could. Apparently, they got swamped the week that we were there because there was an article in the Post. Food: soup dumplings ($9)- each border consist of 3; delish, but they do need a different spoon; one that the whole dumpling could fit so you don't lose the delicious juice. Mama's handmade noodles with chili oil - ($13) - big portion. Flavorful. Shrimp and pork shumai ($8) - 4 per order. Pretty standard. Salt and Pepper crunchy shrimp ($9) - pretty big portion for the cost. It's probably our favorite. Garlic cucumber salad ($4) - refreshing Mama's basil chicken in stone pot ($13) - unfortunately, it was too sweet for us. However, that stone pot held a decent amount of food. Overall, it was a good experience. I'm looking forward to returning.

Yelp
I approached with some skepticism thinking (wrongly) "here is another Chinese Food chain". I have been mocked since by friends who knew better but the most impactful corrective was our excellent dining experience. The service was first rate and the menu was crafted for quality not pandering. You can tell there was a focus on fresh ingredients, preparation, and presentation. The special lunar new year menu was still available and we availed ourselves of it and dim sum selections. Fish was firm but light but of note were the shrimp/scallion pancakes -- a small dish so easy to do wrong but done so right at this establishment. Finally I will add a very subjective intangible: we were made to feel welcomed and appreciated as customers-- something increasingly rare these days-- and this too added to a very pleasant night out. It prompted me to go home a re-read parts of Invitation to a Banquet by F Dunlop. We will be back.

Yelp
Our to go order on Christmas afternoon was packed up well. Food was really delicious! Everything was easy, they brought it right out to my car with almost no waiting.

Yelp
Very good quality food for an Asian cuisine. Tastes fresh and clean. Portions are small but filling. Favorite dish had to have been the Mama's Basil Chicken.

Yelp
I can't believe I've never been to a Peter Chang restaurant before! I went for the first time today with a friend for a Sunday brunch. I'm SO happy this place is close to where I live and plan to visit many more times in the future! From the moment we pulled into the parking lot, the building was fun and brightly painted with clean curb and parking spaces. When we entered there was a beautiful little seating area for customers waiting for a table but, there was no line when we arrived at 11:45/12:00 and already customers enjoying their meals. The atmosphere was friendly and really inviting. We were immediately welcomed and shown to our table. The interior was really nicely decorated like a modern garden but not too over done. The Sunday brunch menu included dim sum and small plates for a reasonable price and nice portion sizes as well as hand crafted summer cocktails. Everything was delicious! We ordered our own small plates and dim sum: shrimp spring rolls, beef pancakes, pork soup dumplings, braised pork boa burger, chili oil pork wontons. We also order the Gin Plum and lemon Martin that was a beautiful and fun purple color with a sun dried lemon garnish (see photo). The bartender personally brought our drinks to us, introducing herself and appreciating our compliments. The service was top notch! Very professional and I can tell they are seasoned workers in the food and hospitality industry. Our waiters stopped to talk to us for a bit about the restaurant moving from Rockville and how there are 16 others in the DC, MD, VA area. She mentioned the flagship restaurant in Bethesda and a new restaurant opening in Herndon. My friend and I really appreciated the time she took to care for our meal and our overall experience. I see the middie reviews and I have to say, I completely disagree! With the amount of restaurants in Montgomery village/Gaithersburg, I think there are some quick to find other places to choose and therefore don't retain a sedentary of loyalty to restaurants that are true gems to this area. I for one will be a repeat customer and I hope to share my experience with as many people as I can so they too can enjoy this amazing restaurant with their families and friends.

Yelp
It's our first time here since it opened a few months ago. We loved our food, very good flavoring and did not appear to be too oily or salty. Food came fairly quickly. The inside is open and nicely decorated. Looking forward to going back again, especially for the sweet potato leaves dish, one of my favorite green veggies!

Yelp
Came to Peter Chang's new restaurant on a Saturday night during its soft opening. We ordered their Peking Duck with pancake wraps, a steamed whole Branzino, fried rice, soup dumplings and shrimp dumplings. The parking lot was packed and we were surprised that we quickly got seated because we did not have a reservation. Service was prompt and helpful throughout our dinner even though the place was packed. The Peking Duck was good and plenty for our party of 4. The fish tasted fresh but a tad over cooked. To me, The only type of Chinese chef that steams fish just right are always those who are trained in Hong Kong or Canton. Peter Chang's is a very authentic Chinese specializing in northern Chinese cuisine in the Montgomery Village area.
