Dine amid a lush glasshouse filled with seasonal, Italian-inspired fare and blooms galore, where the ambiance and service really shine.
"Set inside a giant greenhouse in Richmond, Petersham Nurseries feels a million miles away from the city and all the noise and discarded hot wings that come with it. Yes, the seasonal Italian food is expensive, but it’s also fantastic and worth splashing out on for a special occasion. And the charming, covered glasshouse was made for summer days." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak
"There are garden restaurants, and then there’s Petersham Nurseries. It’s essentially a cafe in the greenhouse of a private garden in Richmond, with Italian food that’s pricey, but always extremely pretty. Get a plate of the saffron gnocchi with mussels and peas and sit in the absolute stunner of a conservatory, which opens on to an actual meadow during summer. As far as escapes go, it feels like you’ve left town because, well, you basically have left town. " - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna
"There are restaurants that have a nice garden, and then there’s the café at Petersham Nurseries. Arguably the most charming restaurant in all of London and also the most likely to get commissioned for a remake of Anne of Green Gables, it’s set inside a giant greenhouse in Richmond that feels a million miles away from busy London. Yes, the seasonal Italian food here is expensive, but it’s also fantastic and worth splashing out on for a special occasion (see: reuniting with your favourite people on the planet). Turn the reunion meal into more of a day-trip with a wander around the nurseries before your meal, and follow it up with a stroll through Richmond Park." - heidi lauth beasley
"On a summer’s day there can be few more delightful spots for lunch, whether on the terrace or in the greenhouse. The kitchen uses the freshest seasonal produce in unfussy, flavoursome dishes with a subtle Italian accent and, from the sourcing of produce to the welfare of staff, sustainability is a key focus." - Michelin Inspector
"For those who confuse owning a plant with being a real adult To be honest, we don’t disagree with them. So if all they want to do lately is look through a Wickes catalogue or pretend to like filter coffee, don’t try to stop them. Instead bring them to this adorable garden shop, cafe, and teahouse in Richmond where you can share a slice of cake, some herbal tea, and spend hours basking in the idyllic floral courtyard. Booking afternoon tea here for your plant-parent friend is a fantastic shout. " - heidi lauth beasley, rianne shlebak
