Pete's Pizza Review - North Center - Chicago - The Infatuation

"Pete’s Pizza has been around since 1955, and though they have dishes like pasta and sandwiches, their name and sayings on the wall like “I want someone to look at me the way they look at pizza” make it clear why you’re here. This large, North Center spot has both wood-fired and tavern-style pies, and the dough is the best part of both. The wood-fired pizzas are pillowy soft, while the thin square-cut pies have fantastic crispiness. We wish the sauce had a little more flavor, but the melty cheese and wide variety of toppings like pepperoncini or housemade sausage save the pizzas from falling into a dark pit of blandness. This may not be our favorite pizza in Chicago, but we still like eating here, especially while drinking beer and watching the game with a bunch of friends." - John Ringor

Ask for Carlos!!! He is AWESOME and a great worker! The food is always great! We had the thin crust sausage pizza (delicious as always)! We also had the ribs, mozzarella sticks and buffalo chicken wings! Everything was PERFECT! Will definitely go back again and again.

The pizza was well-cooked and had the perfect ratio of sauce and cheese. It was good pizza! The atmosphere was really nice too. It was cute and fun to eat with friends. The staff were super nice!!! Definitely come here to hang out with friends or study. They have pages for coloring, but you’ll unfortunately have to bring your own crayons 😅. Love this place! :-)

I've been coming here since high school, and it’s always been consistently delicious. The morning slice deal is still super affordable, and the pizza never misses—crispy, cheesy, and just the right amount of grease. On my most recent visit, there was a new bartender—an absolute beefcake named Mike (or maybe Michael?). Honestly, between the killer food and the view behind the bar, it's hard to know what to focus on. They’ve got these big garage-style windows that let in tons of light, but trust me—you won’t be taking your eyes off the bartender. Mike recommended the pulled pork sandwich, and let me tell you—it blew my mind. You wouldn’t expect a pizza joint to have one of the best pulled pork sandwiches in Chicago, but here we are. Do yourself a favor and try it. And hey—don’t forget the RORO Battle Pass.

Google
Our go-to pizza. Today's stuffed spinach was delish. Crust perfectly cooked to a near pastry. Just the right amount of their amazing sauce. So good

Not what it used to be. This place has gone completely downhill since they started offering BOGO deals on uber eats, which they no longer even offer. Yet even after removing the deal, the sauce is disgustingly salty (instead of nice and sweet which was always THE reason you buy from here), clearly was made hours ago and sitting under a heat lamp (yet the wait time is still the same), and seriously undercooked. Did they replace their entire kitchen staff and replace all the ingredients? Today’s pepperoni pizza made us sick to our stomachs and could barely eat it. Depressing, because this used to be one of my favorite spots for tavern style in the city and I have decades of memories of loving their food. I don’t think I’ll ever order from them again if it stays like this.

Love this place for over 30 years! The boneless chicken is crispy, with excellent blue cheese and ranch dressing. The Italian beef egg rolls are tasty! We order our pizza with sausage, thin and well done. The sauce is good, and the sausage is even better. Not crowded on a Saturday for lunch!

Google
Place was very cozy and nice. The pizza was very good! We also had boneless chicken wings they were delicious! If in the area will definitely return.

Google
We love Pete's! Their regular pepperoni pizza is our favorite. The others aren't as amazing but this one is killer. Great drink selection and open air feel when it's nice out with their big open windows wall. Pastas are ok, cheese bread is great. Salads are good, great ranch dressing. Like the mozzarella sticks too.

Yelp
The best wings in Chicago if not the USA. We've been coming here for 6+ years and Pete's has remained consistently delicious every single visit. As an experienced patron of Pete's please allow me to walk you through a standard visit. Let's set the scene: It's a beautiful summer evening and you want to grab some dinner after watching the Cubs win. You make your way over to Pete's and are greeted by Frank as you walk in. Frank's charm and friendly demeanor assure you that you've chosen the right establishment. As Frank walks you to your table you smell delicious pizza cooking from the back and hear people laughing. You sit down and order a draft beer. A fresh ice cold beer appears in front of you seconds later. You remember this review and order the Jumbo Spicy Thai Wings and a large pizza. The wings come out and you are amazed at how fresh, crispy, and flavorful they are. You realize I didn't lie to you. You're overcome with joy with every scrumptious bite. The pizza comes next and you're shocked at how perfectly done it is. You can't help but realize you are emerged in all things Chicago as you devour a slice of sausage and giardiniera. You catch a glimpse of the sunset through the western facing windows. You are happy. Don't sleep on Pete's. It is truly the best Chicago has to offer!

Yelp
Came in before my daughter's track meet at my old alma matar Lane Tech up the street and ordered the Philly Cheese Chicken and it was delicious!! Even my daughter enjoyed hers and she's a picky eater. The Philly came on fresh bread with mozzarella's cheese, onions and green peppers. The chicken was sautéed to perfection with great flavor. The Philly comes with fries and a side of cole slaw and the cole slaw was also very good, nice and sweet, not bitter and bland. All food came out fresh made to order. The restaurant was not busy at all so wait time for our food was nothing, and actually it was empty and this was at 3:30pm on a Thursday. I believe they just opened up at 3pm, so I'm sure the after work and dinner patrons started to roll on in later. A great spot to eat at if you're in the area.

Yelp
I love their pizza!!! It is so delicious and the atmosphere is open and light! Make this your next pizza night out .

Yelp
The food was good but it wasn't really anything special but there mozzarella sticks WERE SO GOOD they were fine before I could take a picture of them super cheesy big and they were fairly fast and the lights they had were really nice

Yelp
We stick with the pizza. The Italian beef egg rolls are good too. I'd get the 1/2 pound shrimp appetizer if you're craving it. Your life won't be horrible if you skip it though.

Yelp
Roberto made this Pizza almost 1/2" of cheese. Was told that's how it made no from Roberto. Less cheese and cooked longer. You want to be GOOD Before FAST. BECAUSE IF YOU ARE FAST AND NO GOOD. WASTE OF TIME AND Material. Pizza is VERY easy to prep and cook. Everyone wants xtra thin crust and cheese all the way to the edges very lightly NOT 1/2". Looks like him troughs pile of cheese into center and thought it would melt down LOL ALSO " NOTICE NO CHEESE 4" all around the crust. Lazy or just doesn't care. Not trained properly?? AND cooked properly. Crispy. Take pride in your WORK.And manger do quality control. These are your soldiers and your the leader. Pizza was awful. WHERE IS Giuseppe? Luigi. Vinny. Tony They learn to cook from their mom. Grandma. Aunt. Uncle. Real Food. Cooked right.

Yelp
Pete's is a great a spot to get a bite to eat and watch a game! The whole place is full of TVs and different seating options. They have tavern style pizza here but it's not quite as thin and crispy as I like it, but I can't dock them for my preference. They have a great takeout counter on the back side of the parking lot so don't go in the front door if you ordered out! Plenty of parking is available in their lot. Staff have always been kind and friendly!

Yelp
We had take out pizza from here for a change and we were excited to try the Taco pizza. Unfortunately, the sauce style is sweet and that did not fit well with the taco seasoning and the ground meat was medium quality at best. We also got a pepperoni as backup, but it still had sweet sauce which I didn't care for. The crust was also rather cardboardy - dry and not a lot of favor to it. I generally would prefer not to go back, but if there was a pressing reason to go it would be fine.

Yelp
Truly great and unique specialty pizza combinations with incredible wood fired crust. The staff here- many of which are long-timers know how to treat you right as well inside this authentic family run joint
google avatar

Jordan L.

Yelp
I've been to Pete's plenty of times. It's a great place to enjoy with family and friends or relax in front of the bar solo. Service is always great and the food hits the spot
google avatar

Yelp
Solid tavern style, but I like Pat's better. Bacon and pepperoni are good, I'd skip the sausage. Close so I'll be back.

Michael A.

Yelp
I had to put my thin crust cheese pizza with pepperoni in the air fryer for five minutes for 380° for it to be a nice crispy pizza. it was just plain it was barely fully cooked. It looked pale.... told my dad this and he said "I shouldn't have ordered pizza here" "It's Cheap"

Yelp
Carry Out/Delivery Pizza Review Only- I found this place a couple of years ago when I was looking for a new pizza place to try. I live in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago and very few restaurants outside of my general seem to deliver (unless they are on the ordering apps). I was pleased to learn that they delivered to my address. The pizza always arrives within a reasonable timeframe (normally less than an hour) We have only ordered thin crust pizza from Pete's before, but it has always been consistently good. The cheese and ingredients have the perfect ratio.

Yelp
Delicious wings and superb pizza. Great service... All in all wonderful experience.

Yelp
You don't find places like this a lot, just a good ole pizzeria! And no I'm not talking about Dominoes or your Pizza Huts or even your Chuck E Cheeses. I'm talking about a nice, casual, pizza restaurant to dine in, where it's big enough to bring the whole family to just come and eat and you're not spending an arm and a leg. So that was a nice surprise for me when my daughter and I just wanted pizza. We ordered the large thin crust pizza and it was pretty good! Super cheesy and it came out fast. It was just my daughter and I and we were super hungry and thought the medium would have been too small so we got the large. The large was actually pretty big and we ended up having to take half of it home. Which wasn't a bad idea. Inside was plenty of room, booths or tables available, and TVs as well. It was clean and inviting and the servers were fast and friendly. I would definitely come back! One thing I do want to point out is that their menu is not too extensive. So this is mainly a pizza restaurant. Sides like fries are available but don't go asking for no burgers lol.

Yelp
I've been a customer for 15 years. That will probably come to an end tonight. I was told my delivery order would be there in an hour. After 70 minutes, I called and told it was a few minutes away. Fifteen minutes later, it still wasn't there and called again. After explaining how late it was, so late I had to make dinner for my 11 year old, I was put on hold for five minutes. Someone else picked up, and explained they were swamped. Then why did they tell me it would take an hour when I ordered. The man told me the pizza would be there soon. I asked to have it comped. I was offered $5 off on my next order. Ruining someone's dinner is not worth just $5. I told him to cancel the order and he hung up on me. Yeah, there are plenty of other pizza places out there, and Pete's apparently wants me to try them instead.

Alice L.

Yelp
Good pizza and we loved the Italian beef egg rolls. The atmosphere was fun and staff was nice.
google avatar

George H.

Yelp
Love the pizza here- the service wasn't that great- the Mexican gentleman was very lazy and not very nice
google avatar

Kevin M.

Yelp
This is my go to pizza delivery spot, always on point and always comes hot make sure to order your pies well done to get that extra texture profile
google avatar

Adam E.

Yelp
To me it's a very average and serviceable Chicago style pizza place. Tavern style square cut. Healthy size and proportionate cost. Toppings are good but too many can over shadow the pizza if you don't add extra cheese. Not my favorite but much much better than something like Jimmy John's Dominos Sarpinos or Little Caesar's. Also better than everything I found in Austin except for My Brothers Pizza. It's just very competitive pizza wise in Chicago. To be fair I have not tried their deep dish offerings and I should do that to better compare them to some of the other players.
google avatar

Rob L.

Yelp
Love their thin crust pizza. Always comes out piping hot which I love. Also love the spaghetti & meatballs. Service is consistently good.
google avatar

Megan B.

Yelp
The crust tasted under done and everything slid off the pizza when trying to pull the pieces apart. Delivery was good

Yelp
been going to Petes Pizza for over 25 years and the old days we all had our pizza places. A lot of them closed up. Petes Pizza is great if you haven't tried it you need to try it.

Alexis C.

Yelp
Probably one of the best Gluten Free pizzas I've had! I recently moved close by and is my go to. Even my friends and family have raved how good it is. They also like their non GF pizzas. Staff is always friendly
google avatar

Yelp
Just ordered from Pete's and am very unhappy . I love their pizza and it never disappoints, but this time I ordered fried chicken dinner and fried shrimp dinner. I asked for a substitute on the chicken, as I wanted 2 thighs. The order was placed with the kitchen correctly (sub a thigh for a leg) but instead I received 2 drumsticks and NO THIGH. (Fortunately, when I called back after delivery, I wasn't charged extra and the young lady who took my order was very apologetic.) Beyond that, the chicken pieces are so tiny, they almost look like Cornish hen pieces. I understand prices have increased everywhere, but 14$ for this type of entree is unacceptable. The same with the shrimp. Advertised as Jumbo shrimp but they are one step larger than salad shrimp. They were, at best, medium size. And the price is $14.+ for the dinner. Both dinners include salad or coleslaw and fries or spaghetti and bread (no butter). Been a loyal customer for over 20 years but this experience has changed my mind about ordering again. The entrees are excessive in price and there are plenty of pizza places that are comparable if I want pizza. I wonder if ownership will react to a bad review and a dissatisfied customer. Somehow, I doubt they will...
google avatar

Rick G.

Yelp
I ordered pizza and ribs (and other stuff) from Door Dash and initially I was a little concerned because the order kept being pushed later and later, about 20 minutes. But then it just showed up because Pete's drivers are not Door Dash. The food was EXCELLENT and exceeded my expectations. Ribs were tender, pizza was generous and flavorful. I will gladly order from this spot again.
google avatar

Scott A.

Yelp
Maybe the pizza is good. Maybe it's not. I tried to try this place for the third time today. I never seem to find them open inside and or be able to get slices. Today I went inside at 4 and asked if I could get slices. Even though there's a bar that would be perfect for it I was told no, not inside, but I could get it from the carry out door. Went there and was told they only do slices from 11-2. I don't know if Pete chooses the hours and the service levels or it's a manager, but they need to rethink this. I'm done with this place.
google avatar

Nicole C.

Yelp
Love this place. Moved to the neighborhood a year ago and can honestly say this is one of the best places around. The staff is so friendly and the food is always on point. We love coming here for birthdays and celebrations because it just has that old-timey family pizza place feel to it. We have never had a bad item here. Love that they have parking and the prices won't break the bank. This time around we got a pepperoni and ricotta pizza and some potato skins. Definitely get more than what you pay for, this meal was only $35! Finally remembered to take some pics! Keep doing what you do, we will always come back!
google avatar

Elise A.

Yelp
The food was great! I ordered a pizza and it was spot on! The service was awesome and the waiters were so attentive! The restaurant itself was so cute and festive.
google avatar

Ryan P.

Yelp
The pizza was good, excellent thin crust and it's not that expensive. The large they tell you over the phone feeds 3 people comfortably but it's really more like two, so if you want leftovers get a larger one. When you go to pick the pizza up they have you wear a mask inside. The guy who brought my pizza out from the kitchen though was very much not masked up - in the midst of the delta variant part of the pandemic - and that made the pizza let's say slightly less appetizing and ruined the whole "we're keeping you and your food safe" vibe.
google avatar

EJ C.

Yelp
Fye. The best thin crust in the city tbh. I love their pepperoni Pizza, but I'm curious about their deep dish and pan pizza
google avatar

Mark B.

Yelp
After YEARS of loyal service to Pete's, I am afraid that they are now BLACKLISTED. An understandable mistake sending the wrong pizza ended up me being gas lit for 3.5 hours waiting for the correct pizza to be sent. The manager was unapologetic and refused to refund me, so I was left with no other choice but a replacement pizza. If I hadn't called 4 separate times to make sure my pizza was coming I would never have received another pizza. A cash cow such as Pete's being too cheap or owning up to a mistake that is SO EASILY FIXABLE is pathetic and mind boggling. Poor customer service and business practice.
google avatar

Ginnette H.

Yelp
Lasagna was absolutely appalling. completely inedible. took one bite and gave it back. still appeared on the check. won't be coming back.
google avatar

Tommy O.

Yelp
This will be a delivery review and my first time having it. Pete's pizza is a tavern style thin crust pizza joint. A friend of a friend told me that this was his favorite thin crust pizza place in Chicago so I had to give it a try. I thought the pizza was very good and one of the better thin crusts in Chicago! The pizza was very crispy and the sauce was sweet. It was super cheesy and I thought the toppings were amazing! We got a sausage and pepperoni pizza and I thought the toppings were as good as Pequod's and Lou's. The sausage and pepperoni were that good! The pizza wasn't overly greasy either. I will have to dine in sometime and give it a try. I live near there and the place looks like a nice bar and has open air seating, which would be nice for summer!
google avatar

Scot N.

Yelp
Everything we had here was amazing. Seriously great pizza. For an appetizer we had the pizza poutine and I am still dreaming about it. I would have been completely satisfied to have an entire order of that for my meal. We also ordered a pepperoni, ham, and black olives pizza. We got a large and still had several slices the take-home. Everything about the pizza was incredible. The sauce was slightly sweet and just the right amount. The cheese was thick and gooey. The meet was plentiful and tasty. I literally want to drive to Chicago to have some more, right now. In the immortal words of Homer Simpson, "Hmmmmm, pizza...(drools)"
google avatar

Bridget M.

Yelp
A Chicago staple. Pete's is classic chicago tavern style pizza. I've been ordering Pete's for years and I've never had a bad bite. Never had my order wrong. Delicious. Get your pizza baked well and thank me later
google avatar

Jackie D.

Yelp
I've been eating this pizza for over 30 years. Its the most consistent pie in the city with the best sauce. Hands down. Delivery has always been on point and when I ask for extra sauce I actually get it, unlike just about every other pizza place in Chicago. Pete's for life fam.
google avatar

Koli D.

Yelp
Pete's was wonderful in helping us prepare for our Basketball Team Dinner. Pete's staff advised us on how much food to order for 50 people, which included a group of hungry teen boys. Everyone left the event fully fed, and we had a minimal amount of leftovers. It was perfect! We are so grateful for their expertise and great food.
google avatar

Natalie G.

Yelp
I always love their pizza. This is based off my Grubhub order. My order came really early. I ordered the large pizza with sausage, mushrooms onions and green peppers. It was delicious and I always love their crust. Even though it's thin, it holds the ingredients well. Their crust is crispy and has a nice bite to it. Their fries were huge! Crispy and salty :).

Chuck S.

Yelp
I have been going to Pete's for 10+ years but I think today is my last order. Pizza and wings are good but now Pete's has started charging you to use a credit card to buy their pizza.
google avatar

Jeffrey J.

Yelp
Good pizza and great big juicy wings (especially the Buffalo and teriyaki) BUT only get them in orders of 8. Getting a dozen or more will result in completely different and smaller wings that are not breaded. They will change the wings so the increased amount will fit into the same size container. Also completely avoid the regular fried chicken--scrawny, dry little pieces to the point where a jumbo wing has more meat than their fried chicken breast. There is a famous fast food chicken place about a block south that would be way better if you want a 4pc. meal.
google avatar

john s.

Yelp
The one word that I find that best describes the take out from this place is INCONSISTENCY! It's like the one order I recently placed which consisted of a philly cheese steak sandwich and a pizza. Outside of the no steak in the sandwich (i didn't know a vegan version existed) and the weird tasting tomato sauce on the pizza dinner and a movie night was a complete success! Seriously the cost of eating out has increased exponentially unfortnately the quality has taken a serious hit. I will admit when they get it right there pizza kicks some serious arse! But then again the following week the ribs were tasteless and unedible. You know when you're blowing 40 to 50 bucks a shot I don't believe its too much to ask for an enjoyable meal.
google avatar

Vincent A.

Yelp
I'll be honest this is probably the most forgettable pizza I've ever eaten. Cheese 2/10 Sauce 1/10 Crust 310 Toppings 2/10
google avatar

Isaac G.

Yelp
Pete's used to be good for those of you not from here. Ordered fries with no salt, got a phone call from manager shortly after stating that their fries already come with salt so they couldn't make them. So, like..do you get boxes of hot salted fries every morning for service? If they don't, then do the fries come out of your frier magically salted as soon as they're done? Honestly the dumbest conversation I've had in a while

Margaret L.

Yelp
I enjoy the quality of the food at Pete's -- and the generous portion sizes, too. Sometimes, I'll get a second meal out of a single slice, or I'll think I have room for the chocolate cake or a cookie. But then half a slice and the dessert come home with me -- if I have the willpower to pack them up. If not, staying a little longer is comfortable, and I never feel rushed to finish. When I feel like a bit of variety, I've enjoyed the toasted cheese ravioli, spaghetti, and lasagna (all at different meals). If you can't decide what kind of pizza to get, find out what the Slice of the Week is. I've been known to like those often enough to come back in the same week for another slice. Staff is very friendly and good at explaining, so don't worry if you're not sure what a particular ingredient or dish is.

Ray R.

Yelp
Absolutely terrible. Fish and Chips is just a fish sandwich. Go to McDonald's for better and cheaper. Fried chicken was dry and flavorless. Called, spoke to the manager and he hung up on me. Absolutely no attempt to rectify. Never again!!!
google avatar

Katie C.

Yelp
Pete's is the perfect spot for carry out. We have been ordering here for over 15 years. Throughout the years they have updated the place, and they have quite the trendy restaurant-bar area. The pizza is a classic Chicago tavern style, and consistently delicious. The prices aren't cheap, but not overly expensive. They have a pickup window so you don't have to go through the restaurant.
google avatar

Maite T.

Yelp
The pizza here is amazing, I LOVE Pete's! It's probably the closest I've gotten to NY Style pizza, with that being said they just changed their prices and everything went up and they haven't updated their online menus or their paper menus. I ordered a small 10in. Cheese pizza, add ham add pineapple and I was expecting a pre tax subtotal of $15.90 and ended up with a subtotal of $17.48. Small cheese pizza went up from $12.90 to $13.58, and additional toppings on a small went up from $1.50 to $1.95. So with taxes I just paid $19.36 for a tiny pizza.
google avatar

Yelp
I Love Pete's pizza, My family has been ordering their pizza since I was a kid. There is nothing like it anywhere else I've been . If you haven't had Pete's pizza, you have to try it!

Yelp
We used to frequent Pete's for years. Celebrated many occasions here and have always loved the staff and of course the pizza. We moved away several years ago and did not return until today, to my surprise walking in was a WOW factor ....They underwent a makeover and it's amazing. Visually I could not stop noticing all the great details. New windows, artwork, seating, lighting and the beautiful brick oven. Now when I sat down I was handed a new looking menu. Well remember we came for the pizza so I didn't know if I was going to be disappointed because the look and items were different and when I saw the brick oven I was like oh dear.. now i love love love brick oven but that every once in a while I absolutely crave some old school traditional pizza. YES it was in the menu!!!! Ok so we also chose to try their bruschetta and did not disappoint. Score !!! Emily our server was in line with the way we ALWAYS felt coming here.... WELCOMED ! Emily was super friendly and accommodating. Checked in on us but not overly. The pizza.... delicious and consistent as we always remembered. The crust is thin with just enough crunch, the sauce is not very sweet it's plenty and delicious flavors. As one of their wall lite signs states " "it's the SAUCE". but the cheese did not disappoint. It's fresh ! I LOVE LOVE the makeover. It's beautiful, well thought out, visually i just wanted to look and photograph every corner of this place. But I am so happy that it's the same vibe , and the same tasing pizza Kudos to Pete's
