Where to Drink a Guinness in the Milwaukee Area This Winter | Eater

"A true corner tavern on historic Brady and Arlington, Pete’s Pub boasts a laid-back vibe. Enjoy a Guinness with fish and chips served with your choice of coleslaw or mushy peas. On Tuesdays, instead of tacos, this pub features a pound of chicken wings and drummies for only $10 — and they’re available in nine different sauces and five different rubs." - Jeanette Hurt

Pete's Pub is an underdog-turned-all-star. This location delivers a solid menu for simple smash burgers, chicken sandwiches, and curds. Really good ingredients; crunchy, crispy, and fresh! The food is really amazing here, and the service is exactly what is needed to keep me coming back for more! Great beer selections, coming off a lenghty beer list of wheats, sours, and stouts, and there is something for everyone! Pete's Pub is spacious, too, and there is a pool table, bar seating, inside seating, and outdoor seating on the sidewalk. It's becoming a very popular establishment and accommodates the neighborhood very well! This week is Harley-Davidson Homecoming 2025, and Pete's Pub is the place to meet up for beers and refuel your hunger! Let 'r rip boys! Check out their limited menu for this week's event!

Loved it! Big Beef burger - this thing is huge, even for my hungry keto stomach. Even sans buns, I could only eat half. Smoked brisket is pork brisket, looks like ham, but with great taste. Don't expect beef brisket. Side of Cole slaw (instead of fries) with the burger was a bigger portion than the side of Cole slaw that comes with fish fries Fish fries - one big piece of haddock (very similar to cod. Personally not my favorite fish), with great breading. And tons of fries. No skimpy portions business here. Mushy peas - looks exactly like guacamole. It's mashed peas with butter and fat, so very savory. Sounds "mushy" but it's quite delightful! cheese curds - perfectly fried, with garlic flavor in the breading. Overall on the saltier side, but great with beer. Get a beer. Service was great, pleasant. Server was Chris (per receipt) and he was working alone, so seemed busy (though we were literally the only ones in there at 11:30 on Friday... with a few more customers coming in later, but the place didn't get bustling by the time we left). But as busy as he seemed, he still got everything right and crossed all the t's. I love it when we are taken care of so well! Thank you!

First time. Stopped by on a recommendation from a friend. The food was outstanding. Had a burger, mushroom sandwich (Fun Guy) and Pork Rinds. All hot, well prepared, and tasty. It felt like they were a little short staffed at the bar. It was loud, and it was trivia night. We weren't playing and there was nowhere to escape the MC coming over the speakers.

Google
Stopped here after the beach last weekend got some wings. The peri peri flavor (dry rub) with ranch and buffalo on the side. They were amazing! Can’t wait to bring my friends here to try the wings. Friends of mine got burgers and loved them but I still thing the wings are a major hit!

Google
Best burger I've had in a long time. Classic pub on Brady. Order everything at the bar - gets delivered to your table. Service was friendly and food came out hot and fast. You've gotta try the Hulk!Smash burger. Beer list was OK, not great. Recommend!

Google
Went here on a Monday night and got their $10 sandwich special, which we both enjoyed. They had a decent selection of beers on tap, although we would have appreciated it if the menu/chalkboard wall listed prices. It was a very reasonable volume and it was easy to chat. Place felt spacious, and the televisions were easy to see from our table.

Google
I’ve been coming here for years and the prices have went up from 14 dollars for the chicken drums to 18 dollars for 8 pieces of drums and flats mix, not wings. You can’t find the same sauce anywhere, so I’ve stuck with them. This is the first time they’ve given me burnt chicken. I literally had to eat around the burnt part to my best ability and spit out majority. I live almost 30 mins from here so I had to deal with it. I called to complain and all they told me was they could do nothing for me.

We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon and there were plenty of tables open. You order at the bar and the food arrived quickly. Excellent burgers and chicken - I didn't like the BBQ sauce in the Mac n Chz. It was packed when we left

Yelp
I've been in town for the past week with a family emergency, and my days have been full of hospital time and running around town. The timing of this landed on me away from my community and husband for Easter-while I'm not a big celebrator of the holiday, being alone and the one with all the responsibilities sucks. I've been trying to find places to just unplug from the day: a harder feat, I'm a non drinking vegetarian. In the beer and meat city. Enter Pete's Pub: I messaged to see if they were open, and being as thin skinned as I am at this moment, said why I was in town. They expressed empathy, said they were open fully stocked with NA beer. Score! I came in after my day and was delighted to grab a table, Athletic Brewing Company Golden, a mushroom sandwich (Fun Guy) with house made chips, onion dip and fried pickled green beans (hey, when you only eat hotel breakfast and dinner because life, you'd order an appetizer too. And I've been here over a week, hitting the fried every once in awhile.) Fun Guy: amazing. Creamy, veggie full, great bread. I'm a spice freak so would have liked a bit of spice, but my stomach was grateful I didn't nuke it one night. The chips and onion dip: omg I would come back just for this. Creamy and oniony, salty and CRUNCHY. The fried pickled green beans with ranch were interesting, to the point I was full AF and I couldn't stop eating them because it was such a fun flavor combo. Truly, one of the best bars I've been to in Milwaukee: add in Wrestlemania and incredible vibes, friendly AF (and sincere) staff, and you have a major win.

Yelp
Great food when intoxicated, when not intoxicated it doesn't taste as good, but friendly service

Yelp
Popped in during HD fest weekend, which was also Harley fest on Brady Street. Needless to say, the street was packed, as were all the bars on it! To our surprise though, service was still nice and speedy inside Pete's Pub.  The group of us ordered a handful of drinks, from tap beers to seltzers. It's bar service only, but it was still easy enough to order. In true day-drinking fashion, we needed some food to offset. My husband and I split two dishes - the burrata ravioli (omg I could have eaten three orders of this deliciousness), and the hen solo chicken sammie. I've heard (and read on Yelp) many good things about this sandwich and the people weren't kidding, it was tasty! And massive. Like this breaded and fried chicken thigh was the size of my face I swear. The pickle chips and honey on top... chefs kiss. Pub food can be hit or miss, but this one is a solid spot for good grub. Thanks, Pete!

Yelp
Don't let this 4.5 star standing fool you like it did me. It's a dive bar. Sat at the bar and waited roughly 10 minutes to even be served because the bar tender was too busy chatting and doing shots with other customers. The only praise I have is this place was really clean. The cheese curds were okay, the tomato jam is not great. I hate curds with marinara or ranch but either of those would have been an upgrade.

Yelp
Came for a late lunch- Busy- but not too crowded. Good music- bartender was friendly- and really had good food. Order at the bar. Food came out in a timely manner. The cauliflower rings were delish... Grown up cheese sandwich with the tomato jam was tasty... Loved the simple smash burger- got the double and shared it. Engine no 6 patty melt was as hot as they say and my hubby enjoyed it.

Yelp
Spacious place. Great bar. Friendly bartender. Delicious menu. Boneless wings are fresh and tasty. Great ambiance. Many screens to enjoy sports.

Yelp
Was so pleasantly surprised by the food here. To start we had the poutine. The pork and cheese curds on it were very good. The star was the smash burgers though. I got the hulk which had pork belly and a fried egg on it. It was sooo yummy. Definitely recommend!! Also like the fries and how you can pick your seasoning!!

Yelp
Quite possibly the best fish & chips I've had outside of England! I have been wanting to check out Pete's Pub ever since I learned the owner was British (it was hearsay but that's my kind of positive news!). I had seen reviews about the Friday "English Style" fish and chips and was finally about to experience it for myself. However, I am going to detail my experience in chronological order: I arrived relatively early (5:30/6ish) and, surprisingly, there were many available parking spots. Parking restrictions had already ended, which always puts an extra little spring in my step. There were a few patrons sitting at scatters tables and booths and a few sitting at the bar. We chose to sit at the bar (although that is never my favorite as I am short and always feel like the entire space ratio is off for me to be comfortable eating a proper meal. But I digress... There were several employees at the bar that greeted us and were very friendly. Our primary server was great! He offered excellent suggestions regarding beers on tap, was just the right amount of chatty, played a Britney Spears song for me (I was having a rough day/week/month), and there just so happened to be a rep for the in-house "rail" liquor (which above and beyond the sterotypical rail liquor) so we had some samples of various flavors! I already knew I wanted fish and chips (only served on Friday), and my husband opted for one of the specialty burgers. Fish and chips with mushy peas: Well, it wouldn't have mattered if it was bad because there was a tiny little Union Jack flag that 100% made my entire day ;) However, I was SO HAPPY that it was just as good as I anticipated. Better even. The fish was meaty and light, the breading was fantastic. Fries were seasoned (i.e., totally not British style lol). There was a delicious roll and sides of malt vinegar (yay!), ketchup (yay!), and tartar sauce (not a fan, in general). Mushy peas had perfect texture for me but they were a bit too salty (also, not British - they don't salt anything). They still had some slightly whole peas in the mix; I'm not a fan of the pea puree, and were not fall-off-the-fork mushy. The specialty burger (I cannot recall the exact one my husband ordered, but I tried a few bites) was fantastic - meaty, good flavor, cooked to perfection! I will 100% be returning to try other menu items. Hopefully on days other than Friday because Friday will be devoted to fish & chips!!

Yelp
I'll be honest, I was surprised when I typed "fish fry" into Yelp and the first place that popped up was Pete's Pub, I had heard of this joint on Brady before but hadn't quite made it for a meal yet. And compared to some other Friday fish fry spots in the area I was skeptical, however everything we had at Pete's was fantastic and worth the hype! I ordered the tossed shrimp in the peri-peri dry rub and they were fantastic! My husband was going to do the fish sandwich but than was convinced to do the hen solo sandwich which did not disappoint! We shared bites of our meals and both concluded that this was BOMB! I know the hubby and I will be back for another casual but delish meal with Pete's pub. We also ran into fellow Yelp friends which is ALWAYS a treat - you know it's good when that happens!

Yelp
Me and the boss decided to try new places in work area, and we have been on a sort of smash burger mission. Pete's came up as a smash burger contender, so we headed over. The server/bartender was friendly, and it seemed like she was known in the neighborhood by the locals. I couldn't pass up the English style fish fry. Boss man ordered the single smash patty. The fish was piping hot and the batter was crispy and light. The fish was haddock as well, and I prefer that over cod. Fries are a hand cut variety. The coleslaw was OK and I think I would get the mushy peas next time. Boss man enjoyed the smash burger and would order it again. They have an array of quality tap beers, and that is a win in my book. A good overall experience , and a neighborhood addition for Brady St. that fits right.

Yelp
This was the first spot my boyfriend and I ate at in milwaukee. The service was great. Our bartender Jim, was extremely helpful, kind and attentive. We ordered the cheese curds, a double smash burger and Buffalo wings. We enjoyed the food and the ambiance, they also had a pool table and other games for good entertainment. On top of that the food prices were very reasonable. The ambience was very relaxed & overall we would rate the food 8/10.

Yelp
4.5 stars. Wild times! I came here with a coworker after an event Friday night. Despite how crazy the snow storm was, parking was insane. 99% sure I parked illegally and just never got a ticket. We sat the bar. The vibes were super chill and felt more upscale in many ways than you'd expect from a typical pub. Yet another reason to love Milwaukee. Per my coworker's cultural nudging I got a Spotted Cow (FUN!!) and a Hulk Smash! Burger ($16) with cheese, pork belly, fried egg, onions, pickle chips, lettuce, tomato, and Brady St. Sauce on a brioche bun. SOOO good!! The fries were spicy and delicious too. Next time I'll apparently need to do a Fish Fry. Already sold on Pete's Pub for late night goodness.

Yelp
We were looking for a place with tvs, drinks, and decent food. Pete's Pub delivered on all of the above. The "seat yourself and order at the counter" approach was particularly appreciated. This system expedited service, contributing to an overall more enjoyable experience. The wings were an unexpected and delightful surprise. Despite being grilled, they retained a crispy exterior. Opting for the Hot Honey flavor proved a good choice, while the Parmesan Garlic option was equally impressive. The homemade ranch had a noticeable thickness and extra ranchy flavor. Worth a stop if you are looking for tvs, beers, and some quick pub food.

Yelp
Honest to goodness one of the GREATEST establishments on Brady street. Fantastic food, drink, specials, company and staff. An all-around wonderful place to enjoy leisure time right. The ambiance is young, and vibrant, but all are welcome and treated as such. It's a great lave to be! We had the chicken tenders to snack tonight. Fab fab fab!! But have had so many other fantastic food and experiences here that I. Am finally around to praise its greatness.
google avatar

Yelp
My wife and I stopped in for the Haddock Fish & Chip. We had heard it was good, but it was the best fish fry we've found in Milwaukee. Flavorful, crisp, flaky and tender. And you must try the smashed pea side, excellent! The entire staff was friendly and attentive. The owner is a charming Brit , named Pete of course. Great example of the American dream coming true. If you like a good fish fry you have to give Pete's Pub a try. Did I mention the $3 Miller High Life????

Yelp
Very good food. Quick . Service was awesome. Couldn't of been a better experience. I am from out of town . But will try to get back .

Yelp
I wanted to stop at Pete's Pub because they have two burritos on their brunch menu that both sounded interesting. Since I had recently had chorizo in a dish somewhere else, I passed on the Beef Chorizo burrito and instead ordered the Country Chicken burrito. The brunch menu says the burrito was "smothered" in sausage gravy, which somehow was an understatement. The burrito was more swimming in an ocean of sausage gravy than just smothered by it. Unfortunately, I didn't love the flavor of the gravy so I used it sparingly after I was able to push most of it off to the side. The bits of sausage in the gravy were small. The burrito itself was huge, which was one of its better qualities. The chicken inside was a little dry and maybe fried a touch too long, the eggs got lost in the flavor of the gravy, and the "potato" was actually seasoned fries, not fried potato pieces or hashbrowns. I didn't necessarily think that was a bad thing. I do want to go back at some point to try their amazing looking cheeseburger and cheese curds. I don't know if I would go back for brunch. All of the TVs had one of two different European football (soccer) matches on. I assume this is a regular thing because there were people there with jerseys on supporting one of the teams. Seems like it would be a good spot to watch some games if you can't see them elsewhere. There is no table service so sit wherever you want and order food/drinks over at the bar.

Yelp
No sure why it took so long to write a review of Pete's but here goes nothing. We love Pete's. This is as happening a spot as it can be on Brady St., with some of the coolest wait staff one could ever happen upon, including the one and only Faridah! We love Pete's for the solid food and spot on service. Pete's is a perfect spot to come grab a beer or cocktail and they are even better for watching all things Wisconsin sports! We just watched the noon Bucks game this past weekend and enjoyed Pete's incredible brunch. The must have is the Fun Guy burrito! Packed with all the goodies of the Fun Guy sandwich, then drenched in garlic parmesan sauce, this burrito is seriously no joke! Order it with the breakfast potatoes on the side and it's a perfect meal to split. Another favorite is the specialty smash burger night on Thursday where they whip up a couple different burgers each week. I'll post pics of food next time. Till then, hard to beat Pete's!

Katie B.

Yelp
Boneless chicken wings were great. You get a heaping of food for the price. Good place to grab drinks and eat with friends.

Charles L.

Yelp
Had a group of 8, one of us is deathly allergic to dairy and peanuts and can't risk cross contamination, so he brought food to the restaurant. Busboy came by and said he had to take it out of the restaurant, and after he explained his situation and showed his EpiPen, the busboy said "I don't give a fuck if you're allergic, you can't eat it in here" and kicked him out. Needless to say some horrible staff, but good wings
google avatar

Yelp
(From September 2021) One of the coolest pubs on Brady Street due to the cherry wooden finishes on the bars/tables, sporty interior, and a chill sporty atmosphere expected in a Milwaukee bar. The cheese curds and Bloody Mary are excellent here. They also do great burgers, poutine, and wings. It's a smaller menu than I'm used too but from the food was killer as attested by a lot of the regulars. Sometimes less really is more! Bartenders are awesome; they love chatting it up with the regulars and newbies who are here. It's quite an inviting place as I was greeted immediately and got my food and drinks within minutes of sitting. TVs are around showing your favorite game as well so you don't miss the packers/bucks/brewers games. Definitely worth popping into when you're on the Brady street!
google avatar

Colette M.

Yelp
i absolutely love pete's pub! Pete's is a staple of brady street as milwaukee. the staff here is always amazing. as my favorite bar tender is Amber! she is so fun & an amazing bartender. The food here is made fresh & the menu is always changing with updated specials. The soup of the day & the cauliflower wings ( with peri peri rub & the buffalo sauce ). it NEVER disappoints. there are many tables to sit at, & they accommodate for bigger parties. whenever i go back to milwaukee I always want to end up coming here!
google avatar

Andy K.

Yelp
Lunch burger My first visit was a few months back so I was excited to make a another stop to Pete's. The burgers here are fantastic. I shared one this time with a co-worker and he insisted on double burger, double cheese and he was not wrong. The fries are perfectly done. I'm all for veggies so we also tried the cauliflower wings. The tossed garlic sauce was delish and I liked all of the options to pick from. Service is great, but they do a card up front which seems kinda odd during a slow lunch. Definitely will be back.

Drew M.

Yelp
Awesome Bad Hombre in a bowl!!!! Will definitely come back and bring some friends! Drew

Yelp
the ambiance was suited for "boring" (Chad/Karen) university students, but this wasn't necessarily bad (think "jocks") the bar was well lit, clean, pool tables were functional We ordered poutine. The fries were TERRIBLE quality (oversalted fast food crap). Never ordering food here again, because the poutine was insulting. Nice looking spot tho.
google avatar

Yelp
Trivia here is a lot of fun. The bar is spacious and it's in a good location. Love the fish fry.
google avatar

AJ B.

Yelp
If you're looking for one of the best burgers in Milwaukee, look no further. Great location on historic Brady St. The bartenders were nice and all of the food was excellent. I'll definitely be back.

Jeremy S.

Yelp
Went with my friend Pete. Good quick bar service. Straight-forward drinks. Chill atmosphere on trivia night. Would go back.
google avatar

Emily F.

Yelp
The burgers at Pete's were tasty - I tried the regular smash burger with 1 patty which was the perfect size for me while my boyfriend got the Hulk Smash which was pretty loaded (although they look similar in my pics). It was a little too messy for my liking but still tasted good! Nothing to write home about but a solid spot on Brady for drinks/bar food for sure! It did take a while to order at the bar (although it was Game 3 of the NBA Finals so understandable) but the staff was very nice and patient once he got around to us. There are some arcade games to the side (a basketball one and some slots) you can pay to play at as well as weekly trivia events!
google avatar

Lisa A.

Yelp
This location will forever be for me anyhow Brady street hardware- it's incarnation a few restaurants ago. That being said, petes pub, which opened in the middle of the lockdown, does brady st right. It says alot about the place that they were able to open with just delivery and takeout and still keep it going. They have a small menu of mainly burgers and fried chicken but they do it well. We stopped for brunch- you order at the bar and they bring it to you. I had the rise and smash with hash browns. Everything was delicious! Service was very good - I'm a fan!
google avatar

deon m.

Yelp
The food is good. The wings are PERFECTION! The drinks are good as well! The services always fast and prompt. I've never had to wait to long for my food. The wings always come out crispy and flavorful!
google avatar

Aleksandra S.

Yelp
This is a bar, don't listen to the fact that it shows up in the "good for kids" filter. We had to make an emergency restaurant change after Yelp tricked us into coming here with a toddler.

Abbey G.

Yelp
THE BEST SMASH BURGERS IVE EVER HAD. typically don't review, unless it seems necessary. but this was great great food. came into town for a concert and i'm glad we stopped cause it was good food and atmosphere. don't just the book (restaurant) by its cover.
google avatar

Noah M.

Yelp
I have gone to Pete's Pub many times, they have a great pulled pork sandwich, fried chicken sandwich, and bloody Mary's. You order at the bar rather than being served at the table which is one downside, but for a pub it has great food and fun atomosphere
google avatar

Jen J.

Yelp
Great place if you are looking for good bar food. You must get the chicken tenders! They are the best chicken tenders I have ever had AND they are massive. If you want some added fun, they have trivia every Wednesday 7 to 9pm
google avatar

Gilbert T.

Yelp
The food was definitely not what I thought it would be. Maybe I got the wrong thing, I'll definitely go back and try a burger next time. Fun games around, chill people. Service was great also.

Mark J.

Yelp
Average sports bar. Bartenders were very friendly. I would go back . Did not try the food unfortunately.

Stephanie M.

Yelp
Love their food! So unique and love the outdoor patio too. Also a partner of BeerPass, which is an amazing app where you pay $8.99 monthly subscription to get a free beer every day from their partner locations
google avatar

Catara R.

Yelp
The food is AMAZING! THE Wings ‍!! My gf and I just moved to Milwaukee and once we started going to Pete's Pub .. we just couldn't stop going! The service is quick and friendly! Staff is great and because we come so often the staff greets us personally and is very welcoming! Would definitely recommend if visiting or looking for a go to spot on weekends or off days!

Shirley R.

Yelp
The food was good, the service was great. I had wings and poutine fries. The drink menu was just ok.

Yelp
Enjoyed a long walk along the Lakefront and was craving a burger and beer so headed to Pete's Pub. It was a perfect fix with a single smash cheeseburger and their Lakefront / whiskey shot special. Always friendly service, reasonable prices and tasty eats.
google avatar

Alexis B.

Yelp
All the food here is really good and it comes out fast. We go here all the time, but they especially killed it with their St Patrick's Day menu. They have great weekly deals and a great tap selection. We love u Pete's
google avatar

Steve B.

Yelp
My wife and I stopped in for their fish fry. It is a 10 oz haddock. We did not have high hopes for the end product when so many restaurants can't deliver high quality 3 oz fish fry. WOW!! We could not believe the outside was perfectly crispy and inside was tender and cooked to perfection. I grew up in WI. Friday night fish fries are a staple destination. Pete's fish fry is at the top.
google avatar

Laura O.

Yelp
This place is decent, but not amazing. It is a little pricey. We got the ravioli and it was pretty good, probably would have been better at the restaurant vs take out. We also got the hens solo. Unfortunately I couldn't eat any of it because it was fried in the fish oil and tasted like fish (). The chips however are great. It's just too bad they don't give you a small ramekin of dip to go with. Overall we'd go back if we're in the mood for bar food, but wouldn't be regulars. *******UPDATE the owner contacted me after this review. He sincerely apologized and was confused how the sandwich would taste like fish since they don't have fish on the menu and the crab cakes are made elsewhere. His attention to reviews and customer concerns is a definite plus!
google avatar

Keighley A.

Yelp
I walked by Pete's with my dog this evening, and decided to stop and check out their to-go menu. The staff was courteous, cautious (wore masks and practiced good social distancing), and kind, and I ordered a single smash burger with fries. I have to say, as sad as I was to see Harry's go, the food is *excellent*. I actually paused eating to write this review. The fries alone are worth stopping by for, and the burger is delicious. Welcome to the neighborhood!!

Casino w.

Yelp
Being a first time customer I felt service was rude at 4:20pm Oct 1st. First I was looked at negatively because I didn't know the menu was in the wall when I asked for a menu that was clearly right by the bartender. Then I was told I couldn't sir at one of the bigger tables by the window because they are save for bigger parties... understandable if there wasn't plenty bigger tables available... overall didn't like the experience so that dropped the taste of food.
google avatar

Tara S.

Yelp
This place is AMAZING... but don't go, because we want it all to ourselves! There is a reason that this place has survived covid- the food is bananas, spectacular drink choices, and the staff ... it's always a party with them! The owner is a TRUE gem. You won't find this type of hospitality often. Pete, stop being so modest. This place rocks. Please please please get the fish and chips, will ya!? And don't even think about passing up the poutine. With *much* love, -the couple from Illinois that keeps driving 92 miles to go to Pete's (erm, 7 times so far)

We stopped in on a later Friday afternoon. It wasn't all that busy yet so it was nice to be able to take in the ambiance. The beer selection was really great. The food was absolutely amazing. My husband had gotten the patty melt and was expecting it not not be as spicy as advertised but it was definitely on the edge of too spicy for him (and we're a heavy hot sauce usage family). It still tasted amazing but trust that they know what they mean about spice!
